A true guide to model your life by. The principals put forward in The Twelve Pillars, will drag you out of the ditch, if you find yourself in a rut. A heart warming story, without the fluff found in most self help books.

Well, this book gives lots of good story related to daily life, and also mentioned things that we, as human being wanted to accomplish and strive for. In order to achieve to our goal, we must put lots of effort and energy into it. So, it takes time and energy to do whatever we wanted to have.

This is a good book with a lot of good advice, but if you are needing more perspective on keeping stress low and not living for your job then I suggest adding these two books to your library as well:

I am not an easy sell when it comes to financial self-help books because many of them want you to do things that are improbable, or impossible, at certain times in your life. However, this books focuses on making you a successful person inside before starting the outside (material) successes. I really liked that because I believe many people think money will buy them happiness; this book shows that you must first be happy inside to be able to enjoy your outside (material) success. The only reason I gave it four stars is because I believe some of the financial advice may still be a bit impracticable for the character in the story. If he followed it exactly I do not know how he would have time for sleep!

I never heard of Jim Rohn until 6 years after he died. In one of his books he talks about a goal he had, that one day, years after his death, someone would discover one of his books and it would change their life. (Evidently he aimed for that kind of legacy, and relates 'legacy' in 12 Pillars too.) I'd say that person finding the book was me, but I am sure thousands more have also had that experience.
I read, listened, and re-read 12 Pillars, then worked up a visual (mindmap) overview of all the principles, which I am still joyfully studying. Might be the best few dollars I ever spent on any personal development book.

I love listening to Jim Rohn recordings so thought I'd try this book. It's a quick read. Nice to be inspired but not one I'd read again. I often read self development books over again if they have a profound influence on me.

How many ways can you tell the same things over and over again. Well here's one more way, embed your point in a story. If you've read or heard Jim Rohn before, then this is nothing new, just a rehash of points made in the past but put in a very simplistic story. One star is about right for this simple story written with diction for 10 year olds.

So I was in search of a way to improve myself; so I asked my parents and they led me to the book “Twelve Pillars” by Jim Rohn and Chris Widener.
The purpose behind “Twelves Pillars” is for Rohn and Widener to leave behind “their legacy” and for us to build off of it as our foundation to our “own legacy.”
What I like about the book where certain chapters, they taught me things I didn’t know but what was kind of already doing. My favorite chapter of this book is Chapter 6—“Surround Yourself with the Best People.” I’ve already done this and can relate to the chapter, given this is something you’re suppose to know. Success is like a disease, it spreads and infests the people around you.
Another chapter that gives good advice is chapter 5—“The Proper Use of Time.” This lesson in the book is to teach you to “spend your day wisely.”(43) Live everyday like it’s your last, you never know when you or someone else won’t be here the next day. This lesson also taught me the small moments really do matter, given it be just a car ride or the big moments, like driving to Canada just for a fishing trip. Even so, Doing something every day.
Another chapter that my parents where helping me with at a young age was chapter 10—“all Communication Brings the Common Ground of Understanding.” My parents sent me to a camp with almost 300 other kids, boys and girls, like me with the same disease. The camp staff: doctors, interns, nurses, nursing students, dietitions, and counselors of various professions, and even kids is where I found my “common ground.”
The book could use some work; it’s really short and to the point-- kind of boring. But that doesn’t mean someone doesn’t need a daily reminder that you need to work on yourself before you work on anything/anyone else. Yes, that lesson is repeated in every chapter, but someone who read the book told me, “Each pillar builds off of one another.” So, yes, someone who loses interest easily will get bored of the book.
The Book, “Twelve Pillars,” is meant to teach us how to “work on ourselves” with a series of steps and to turn Rohn’s legacy into somewhat of our own. To find our own way to “work on ourselves” to be better than what we already where, to strengthen ourselves through a series of challenges like what Michael had to go through. If I, and 18 year old rotten college student, can overcome my disease through working on myself and bettering myself, what’s to stop you from bettering yourself in a series of challenges? Absolutely nothing! Being bored is like desperately seeking a challenge; the thrilling experience.
Overall, I like certain chapters of the book, hated how the book was short, and would rate it a 3/5. But I Encourage you, get up, go out, and ask people: “What’s your legacy?”

"Twelve Pillars" is a story about Michael Jones and a life changing experience he is about to have when his car breaks down on the side of the road. Michael a middle aged salesman, feels he works hard, has nothing to show for it and that his life is going nowhere.
Walking to the nearest house for help, he comes across the "Twelve Pillars Estate" and meets Charlie, the caretaker for the property. Twelve Pillars is a large beautiful mansion style house with twelve large white pillars on the front of it, which intrigues Michael. As Charlie begins to help Michael gets his car working and Michael begins to ask him about the homes pillars. Charlie tells him the pillars have significant meaning to the home owner Mr. Davis. They have made him a very wealthy, successful man and represent his method for success. Michael becomes more curious than even about the pillars and a relationship between him and Charlie begins.
Months pass since Michael's car had broken down and whatever he could he would make time to visit the estate to learn the story of each pillar from Charlie. Charlie always anticipated Michael's arrival and looked forward to their visits.
Michael had learned the importance of eleven pillars and six weeks would pass until he would learn about the twelfth one. The lessons he had already learned had made a major impact in his life so he was looking forward to the learning about the last one.
When Michael arrived that day to meet Charlie the gate of the estate was closed and he did not see Charlie anywhere in sight. He rang the buzzer and met Mrs. Davis, Mr. Davis' wife for the first time. Charlie was available but that day Michael learns the lesson behind the twelfth pillar and understands its importance.
When he learns the estate he is sad yet excited and he makes a promise to use the twelve pillars every day of his life and to pass on the lessons he learned from Mr. Davis.
Pillar 1: Work Harder on Yourself Than You Do on Your Job
Pillar 2: Live a Life of Health
Pillar 3: The Gift of Relationships
Pillar 4: Achieve Your Goals
Pillar 5: The Proper Use of Time
Pillar 6: Surround Yourself with the Best People
Pillar 7: Be a Life-Long Learner
Pillar 8: All of Life Is Sales
Pillar 9: Income Seldom Exceeds Personal Development
Pillar 10: Communication Brings the Common Ground of Understanding
Pillar 11: The World Can Always Use One More Great Leader
Pillar 12: Leave a Legacy
Jim Rohn and Chris Widener took three simple characters and put them together in a story to teach the fundamental principles they have been lecturing about for over 40 years. It is the first book of a two book series. The second book is "Above All Else" by Chris Widener, where the story of Michael continues and how he has used the lessons of the pillars to work in his life.
"Twelve Pillars" is a short, simple read with a very powerful, profound effect. This is not only a book I would recommend; it is a book I would read several more times, especially when I need a reminder on living a more fulfilled life. Not only did I enjoy the story, I enjoyed learning the lessons behind each pillar. Each represents a choice we make in our lives; they can be applied to business but can also be applied to our daily lives. The twelve pillars can inspire us to set goals, dream big and make us be the best that we could be.

This book is well written and I plan on rereading it many times. It is instructive, entertaining, and very enjoyable reading. Well worth the couple of hours it takes to read it. You won't go wrong in getting this wonderful book.

This short book is the best of the ten or so "accomplish your goals" books that I have. I've read it several times - pretty much whenever I feel I need to get myself back on track, I turn to Rohn and Widener's little book. It's simple, it's easy to read, and it focuses on the basics, yet somehow it's quite inspiring.
If you have any goal achieving type books, you need to add this one to your collection. If you're just starting out, this one is a great choice to begin with.

Simply a great book on more than one level. It's written in story format so it is very easy to listen to. It has a great message, and it actually is a very good story too. It's a story that you can get into and you'll want to finish it as soon as you can.
But once you finish it, you'll want to go over it again. It really is a valuable piece of work and it's applicable to all ages. I really think it would make a nice gift to teenagers or younger people because it is really an easy read or listen.
I'll definitely be keeping this in my library.

I was told by my Herbalife sponsor to always be active in my personal development. As a part of this, reading is highly encouraged. I didn't really know where to start and so she suggested Jim Rohn's Twelve Pillars. This book was laid out in such an interesting way and full of great information that many people are already aware of, but need to be reminded of once in awhile. We don't have to live boring, complacent lives. We only get this one life here on earth and what becomes of it is up to us. This book gets my full recommendation!

I have read hundreds (literally) of personal development books over the years.
Many, very good. But this one is tops.
The simplicity of the content might make some- FOOLISHLY- take it lightly, but from someone standing on the other side of success...trust me, take the content seriously and this is all you will need to achieve it all.

I was highly recommended this book by a friend of whom also gave me the book The Art of Influence. Enjoying the book by Chris Widener and seeing that he helped in the creation of Twelve Pillars, I couldn't resist buying it!
Jim Rohn and Chris Widener did an amazing job at teaching you very important points of success through these fictional characters. Everything is put in to an easy and relatable format. Even when some of the what seemed to be no-brainers were broken down and explained it gave a much better insight to them!
Overall this was a great book that should be read, implemented and read again! Grab a copy and see how it can help you be more successful in every area of life!

Jim Rohn's timeless ideals are brought to life in this "read in an afternoon" book and made easy to understand and follow. Jim has an endearing way about him and his concepts ring true for everyone. If you're looking for "the" formula for success, I highly recommend "Twelve Pillars" Or if you're looking to simply improve your relationships and attitudes, give it a read. The book reads like a novel and even your teens will be able to grasp and use the concepts within. I can't wait to read Chris Widener's sequel "Above All Else."

This book is written as a novel and includes fantastic pearls of wisdom in each chapter. It has the type of information a wise man passes on to his children. With that in mind we read a chapter after dinner each night and found it entertaining and incredibly inspiring.

The novel format I did not feel added much. I was also offended by the author placing his own book on the list of the top 20 books of all time. The tone came across a tad overbearing, although I do not totally disagree with it all. Not impressed by the book at all.

Enjoyed the book. Took just a couple of hours to read. Jim Rohn wisdom in a fictional story. The only reason it gets 4 stars instead of 5 is because I read 2 of his other books: The simpler "7 Strategies for Wealth and Happiness" and the more in depth "Leading an Inspired Life", that are some of the best inspirational books that I've ever read.
