The first books are the best novels, and the entire series was well done, but the last trilogy did not keep me up at night wanting to know what came next the way the earlier books in the series did.

It's my opinion that some of the storyline in the last trilogy was too focused on the central character's obsession with a woman, which detracted from an otherwise solid plot.

I do not recommend for younger readers as the violence is exceptionally graphic in these books.

Mixed feelings about those books. At times I felt like I was rooting for some of the main "good" characters to just exit the plot one way or another so they would stop annoying me. It seems that the author had some very intriguing ideas, but the way he presents them to the reader feel unpolished, including grammatical/spelling mistakes that even a non-native (me) reader has been bothered by. Some of the violence and explicit content felt unneeded/forced on the reader. It's intriguing enough to keep you reading, but it overall felt lacking.

Horrid series. Graphic violence rape and brutality. Rape scenes that lead to brutal murder. Killing children then turning their skins into leather boots. Same story for all the books. Bad guy tries to annihilate everyone people band together to fight him/them. Violence began to turn my stomach.

Nice and easy to read without being boring. There were a couple of things that turned out to be very predictable, but I really enjoyed them anyway. There was plenty of "action" throughout to keep me reading on.

Garbage. I bought this trilogy due to the advert I saw comparing The Dragon War to Terry Goodkind's Sword of Truth series. I quickly realized why the comparison was made, but not in any positive way. Sword of Truth's Kahlan became Kaelyn, Richard became Rune. The first book is the exact story of how Richard was introduced in Sword of Truth, same story, different details, and far worse writing. Characters are unbelievable, and predictable. The "potty mouth" character Erry with her curse words, "maggoty dog farts" and other stupid nonsense made this feel like it was written by a 12 year old, for 12 year olds. So much repetition, "maw", and "blaze", must have been on the assigned vocabulary homework or something. But worse, it felt like reading a list of events that happened rather than a story. The entire "story" basically sounds like this; He did this. He felt that. He said this. She responded. He responded. Then this other thing happened. He went on and on. All the characters were super cheezy and their dialog was incredibly weak and unimportant. The one redeeming quality was the originality (I've not seen it before anyway), of the ability to shift between dragon and human. I've not seen that anywhere before. Great idea, but doesn't transfer well to paper with this author. It seemed the author tried to balance between audiences with very dark and adult themes and situations, but written a way a child could read it. Choose your intended audience! I have no idea how this is rated so high, and I will not be purchasing/reading any more from this author.

Interesting read. Kept you on your toes and overall a great read. My biggest complaint was the constant theme of sex and rape that continued to surface throughout the book. I nearly put the book down for these reasons and would not recommend for youth, teens or even adults who choose to avoid these themes.

Very well written... like you were there in the action book. Every character became either your friend or your enemy. This book has all the classic ingredients....good against evil...unlikely bonds forged...back stabbing...cunning twists and turns of fate and most of all....Dragons!. DON'T MISS THIS TRILOGY!!!!

I do not remember what the biographical information is on this author but he is a very sick person or has gone through some horrendous life experiences, maybe he is older and was imprisoned in Auschwitz. He has created a brutal beyond cruel world full of madness, hatred, cruelty beyond the limits of acceptability. The bad guys are like Nazis on steroids! I cannot imagine anyone dreaming up the incredible cruelty of the "boot camp" or the advanced training that soldiers of the king (actually the usurper of the throne) get. The author is obviously a good writer. His descriptions give you pictures that often you don't want in your head.
The only reason I waded through this world of hideous people, full of horrible cruelty was to see if the good guys could possibly win. They did only by a fluke. I am telling you this as a deliberate spoiler so you don't have to read any of these books or any other of this person's books. Every time I read them I came away in a terrible mood. If I was the least bit suicidal I would have jumped off a high bridge after reading just a tiny bit of these books.
Do not bother unless you are really into to sadism and cruelty and madness. I picked this trilogy because I like stories about dragons BUT I WILL PASS ON ANY OTHER BOOKS BY THIS AUTHOR! And so should you! I know war is not about glory. It is about death and pain and cruelty and is really stupid but I don't have to read about it.

I've read all three of Arenson's Requiem trilogies. Each of the trilogies stands alone. You don't need to have read the first 2 to read this one. The only thing they really have in common is the world. As with the other two, I think the books could have been shorter and given them a quicker pace. They are imaginative, but the sometimes the conversations can seem stilted and some things are repeated throughout the book. It's standard fantasy fare and I did enjoy it, but I wouldn't read it again.

Okay, I have read all three series of requiem and I have to say, I'm disappointed by the ending. I will not say what happened because of spoilers but I don't like what was happening when the emperor died, I don't like how he died, and I don't like what the characters did after he died. Given the text of the previous book in this series, the ending just seemed wrong, that's all. Overall it's a good story, and a good way to wrap up the story of Requiem.

I disliked this trilogy all together. OK you may be asking me, if I disliked it so much, why did I read it the whole series? Well it wasn't the individual books that I dislike it was the trilogy as a whole. The story line was developed, great detail was given to the battle scenes. I did not think it so violent as some others may have thought. The magic was OK. The character development over the trilogy was not well done and left me lacking and very disappointed.

After the first book, I was intrigued at best. It was the character development over the rest of the books that killed it. The second book things started going down hill and crashed and burned in the last book. For example, Rune Brewer kissed Tilla Roper, but was described as a innocent kiss - not sexual or love involved. Later Rune Brewer shares a kiss with Kaelyn Cardigan and that kiss is described with love and lingering sexual innuendo. Yet the entire Trilogy was about Rune Brewer seeking Tilla Roper and ends up having a love interest with her. In the story neither character ever expressed any love interest in one another other than being best friends. Although he spent the majority of the trilogy with Kaelyn Cardigan, yet having no love interest with her. In the last book there is a moment when Rune Brewer becomes confused and he may actually love Kaelyn Cardigan and not Tilla Roper - What?! Also, what I mean by a moment consisted of a few sentences, a paragraph at best.

I wasn't necessarily looking for a romantic story or anything of that nature, but for some reason this kept throwing me. Other character development that was not consistent, this kept me from being really invested in the trilogy.

The only reason I bought the book it was advertised to me as - if you like Anne McCaffrey dragon book, then you will love this trilogy - NOT. Not even close. I've read all of McCaffrey's dragon books and reread them. This trilogy I wish I never bought and could get my money back.
