A book where the quality of the leather binding shows AND the price was very reasonable - under $30 !!!
The paper is high quality as well and has a sewn in ribbon to use as a book mark. Delivery was quite fast and was packed very well. I've read half of the book which has close to 700 pages !! Well written, and a pleasure to read and learn from. I will certainly be ordering more leather bound books in the very near. Can't miss !!!!

This book is probably the best written and most complete compendium of mythology, particularly Western mythologies, ever composed. I enjoyed being read to from it as a child, and I am very glad to have it on my Kindle.

This edition of "The Age of Fable" (published by General Books, paperback) has numerous misprints which make it unreadable. The book itself seems quite good, so please explore the many other editions by other publishers. the store should stop selling this defective edition, and I have advised them of this in my return.
Bulfinch's Mythology :: Legends of Charlemagne :: The Age of Chivalry (Bulfinch's Mythology) (Volume 2) :: The Age of Fable (Courage Classics) (v. 1) - Bulfinch's Mythology :: Bulfinch's Mythology by Thomas Bulfinch (2015-11-17)

Realizing I needed more information on mythology and after doing a thorough search on the subject,I found Bulfinch's Greek & Roman Mythology book just what I needed. I have found it to be very informative but not overwhelming on each subject. A wonderful addition to anyone's library.

This book is unusable. i would use it for reference so for it to be unequipped with either a usable accurate table of contents or index is ridiculous. Add to that missing parts of text and you have material for recycle. i am amazed and appalled that the store would sell such a product without caps in bold font stating the egregious faults of this product (i don't think it qualifies as a book).

the book itself is an excellent literary resource for classical literature. the only problem is this specific print does not have the preface and therefore the information about the author is missing. to truly understand the premise of the author's point of view, we had to look on the internet to complete my daughter's assignment about the author...

While I have not finished reading this book yet, I am throughly enjoying it. I have wanted to read this book since before I could read (my mother had a copy with an interesting looking cover). Then when I learned to read it was too complicated. Now that I am grown (not according to my wife) it is nice to read and understand the book!

Bulfinch's Mythology is a classic reference and deserves better. The publisher, Optal eBooks, apparently couldn't be bothered to create a Table of Contents with chapter links. This is a book that is often used for reference purposes, and not having the chapter links is inexcusable. If you actually plan to use this eBook, plan on spending quite a bit of time to create your own bookmarks to make up for the publisher's laziness.

the store deserves some blame for this as well, since their eBook product descriptions don't give the buyer any information on such things. They also don't provide edition-specific reviews for eBooks. All editions of a given title share the same set of reviews and the same product ratings.

When I purchase an eBook that lacks chapter links, indexes, etc., I put that eBook publisher on my "black list" so that I know to avoid them in the future. Optal is the latest member of that list.

I bought these books for my daughter. She needed them for a class. Try getting an understandable summary from a 15 year old regarding something she didn't want to read in the first place. She would have preferred I pull her teeth.

Bulfinch retells some of the stories of knights errant in the time of Charlemagne. the title is misleading - Charlemagne plays a very small part in most of the tales, does not appear at all in many and is never the central character. the stories are fantastical in the extreme, full of knights-errant whose first thought is always to fight every knight they meet, maidens in distress and enchanters. These are precisely the sort of stories that Cervantes parodies in Don Quixote - which is the only reason I read the book, which tends to get repetitive after a while.

The present book is one of three sections of a larger book by Bulfinch and appended here is an index to the whole original, so voluminous as to take up a quarter of this book.

The Kindle edition has NO hyperlinks in the document. Since there are 41 chapters, this is a problem. It gets better.

When you search on the word "chapter," or one of the Roman numerals associated with each chapter, none of the 41 chapter beginnings are found, because the chapter heading is an IMAGE, not text.

I'll try other editions, and if needed, a download from Mobi, and report back on whether I can find a version of this book that can be used with a linked Table of Contents.

I wide collection of legends, not easy to read but very extensive, many of the legends are covered.

I don't advice to read the book as a novel, it is better to keep the book to read it from time to time one legend at a time, each legend is around 10 pages and normally there is no sequence between one legend and the next.

If one wants insight to literary references, reading 'Bulfinch's Mythology' is a must. The ancient myths carry all the universal themes that man still aspires to and struggles with. (I never dreamed that I would appreciate an eBook, but the fingertip availability is invaluable.)

I bought this book based on the other reviews and its low price tag, but was very disappointed. Unless you are very into poetry, I do not believe you will enjoy this book. Somehow, it manages to make exciting myths boring. I would go with Hamilton's mythology book.

this was not as "entertaining" as I thought it would be. It was just a lot of facts. Each passage was not described as well. I thought it would be a lot of short stories, but it did not come across as that.

A truly beautiful version of the definitive collection of classical mythology.Vast and poetic in it's story-telling,it is the book I always return to when reading these eternal tales.Nearly any myth from ancient Greece can be found here as well as Arthurian legend, some Teutonic myth, and much more. This classy version is even more splendid as it is leather bound, with golden edged pages and tassel. It is thick, but not a very large book, making it easy to to hold and read.Any self respecting lover of mythology should have this scholarly edition in their library.

I remember using an identically titled book in Jr High. This book is longer and written in an epic story manner. It has an index but is not useable as a reference because you have to read an entire chapter/story and sometimes the previous chapter to get a grasp of what god does what. It is well written, but very long. If you are really into the mythology thing it is a good book to let sit around and from time to time read a random chapter or two. I cannot imagine sitting down and actually reading it cover to cover. To retain much you would have to take notes.
