Frank Miller really fleshes out Batman's first year of trials and adjustments while David Mazzucchelli's artwork is par excellence. My only gripe is that it ended too soon! Ah, but the ending is only the beginning of the story, you get the drift. I strongly recommend this title as a gift to anyone who has never read a comic book or who is looking to give one as a gift this year. The reader will not be disappointed.

Very awesome! I have been trying to amass Batman knowledge and this was one of my favorite reads so far. It's a cool take on Bruce Wayne beginning his heroics as Batman. Pretty old school too compared to any of the New 52 stuff. After reading Year One it's pretty easy to tell that this story will hold up in Batman lore forever.

I highly recommend Batman: Year One for anyone looking for a little more about the man behind the legend. Even first time comic readers will be amazed by this story.
After watching Batman Begins I found many plot similarities from this book included in the movie.
The artwork by David Mazzucchelli is awesome and the writing is Frank Miller at his best.
I highly suggest this read. I would also pick up the 'sequel' by Miller; The Dark Knight Returns. The books compliment each-other perfectly and the latter maintains the continuity established by Miller in Year One.
With Year One and The Dark Knight Returns you get the FULL story of the Dark Knight at the very beginning of his career and the very end.
A MUST read!

Graphics Novel, DVD, and Blue-ray at a insanely low value: 19.87.
Lets do the math had you bought the items separately.
Batman: Year One (Library Binding Edition): $23.81
Batman: Year One [Multi-Format]: $17.13
$40.94 vs $19.87 you decide which is better.

Amazing Book! Highly Recommend! The book was a fantastic read, it had a dramatic story line the really made the book addicting to read. Also the art was very bold and colorful, I loved it. Definitely a must read...

Great story and nice clean art style. Not as epic as some other DC stories out there, it's more or less a simple noir-style origin story. It's also rather short in length, but it's cheap, so the price is worth the tale

I got this after becoming interested in Frank Miller's work recently, due to the publication of The Dark Knight III. I rather enjoyed it, but thought it was too quick a read, and that it had some cheesy dialogue. Overall, I don't regret this purchase, and would recommend it to any casual (or otherwise) batman fan. I also have to give it props for the great colors.

The Dark Knight Returns is my favorite Batman story, so naturally I wanted to read other Batman stories written by the famed Frank Miller. Batman: Year One is another amazing graphic novel based on the Batman character. Great artwork and great storytelling. I just wish it was a little longer, it ends rather abruptly in my opinion.

The perfect start for someone just getting into Batman comics, or graphic novels in general. It's a thrilling, wonderful read that definitely draws the reader in emotionally. It is also very clear how much this influenced Christopher Nolan's Dark Knight trilogy. A must-read for any Batman fan.

Order in experiencing this story: Watched the DCU Animated movie, read the book.
Order of preference: They're both excellent! The animated movie follows the book nearly to a T, and it's a fantastic story. You want to read this.

Completing his visualization of the alpha (year one) and omega (dark knight returns) of the caped crusader's career, miller's delicate and thoughtful rendition of batman manages to blend the innocence and simplicity of the 1960s character colored by the context of all we've learned about him in the decades since. If you have a place in your heart for batman, and nostalgia for a rememberance perhaps not quite accurate, but nonetheless valid and real, year one will nurture those memories like chicken soup.

Arguable the best batman story ever written. a retelling of batman's origin which was one of the firsts to have batman shed the campy "superhero" teeny-bopper feel. this singlehandedly made batman into the dark knight born of the dirty, putrid depths of the dregs of gotham city. this is what made frank miller the best in many people's minds

I recommend this book to all fans(who probably already have it) and to anyone just starting to read comics and interested in Batman. Frank Miller made three characters really standout in this novel. Batman who gives us the beginning of a dark figure fighting for justice in a cruel jungle of steel and cement. Gordon the first white knight to bring hope to a city that has lost it. And last the the city itself, Gotham. This city is dark, rotten, evil to the core. The only thing it could do was get help. This is a really amazing story and not one to miss.

This is the graphic novel that all other origin stories try to emulate. The gold standard in the comic world for setting the table in the Batman universe. Of all of the stories of the Batman this is my favorite. A must have for all batfans.
The duel origins of Bruce Wayne and Jim Gordon gives this book balance and in many was more about the future commissioner than that of Batman.

this adaptation of batman's origin story is very well done. the pain, loss and determination to avenge his family burns through each page. gordon's story is equally compelling as well. in short, cool story bro.

I thought this was an amazing piece of writing, with really great art. Shows the parallels and contrasts between Batman and Gordon, as well as the beginning of their relationship. Reveals alot of the symbolism between the characters. My only complaint is that it's pretty short, around half of the content of the book you'll get is additional material and concept art. That was a bit disappointing, since the story left me wanting more like this.

Hands down the best Batman origin story ever written. The connection between Batman and Jim Gordon's first year in Gotham is extremely well done. The writing is on point with the artwork. This story doesn't have any classic Batman super villain involved in the story and I still couldn't put it down. This book is a must have for any Batman fan!

In this graphic novel, Miller and Mazzucchelli revisit the beginning of Batman's career as a vigilante. They have done an excellent job. The art is top notch, as are the story and characters. The ending is a little weaker than I had hoped, but the large amount of bonus material included more than makes up for this. I strongly recommend this title to any Batman fans, especially of the Christopher Nolan films.
