No colour pictures in this Kindle book. Very disappointing! There was a sample of a fact tracker in another magic tree house book we have in hard copy - beautiful, full colour. There are plenty of graphics in this book, all black and white. What is the message for kids? That facts are boring? Not worth the $5.....should've brought a coffee!

My four year old loves these Magic Tree House books. We read a few chapters every night instead of the standard preschooler fare. As he is learning sight words, he is starting to participate more. Great books!

While the Magic Tree House storybooks are among my son's favorites, the research guides do not compare. This research guide in particular has a few errors in it. For one, the pharaoh Zoser in the book is actually spelled Djoser. Also the book mentions slaves building the pyramids. That is just plain false. While I would highly recommend the storybooks, I would stay away from the research guides.

Mummies in the Morning is a fictional book, but some parts in the book are non-fiction. This book is about Jack and Annie and their adventures. The setting is in ancient Egypt. In the story, Jack and Annie go into the Frog Creek woods where they find a book in their magic tree house. The tree house takes them back in time to Egypt. Next, they find a black cat and follow it into a pyramid where they get lost. In the pyramid, they meet the ghost of a dead queen, Hutepi. She asks Jack and Annie for help to find the Book of the Dead so that she can get to the afterlife. To help her, Jack and Annie have to figure out a secret message written in hieroglyphics that was carved on the pyramid wall. Will Jack and Annie be able to help the queen and return safely home? Read the book to find out!! Kids who love to read adventure stories will like this book.

The third magical adventure of Jack and Annie takes them back to the land of the Mummies, in Egypt. Here, they find themselves inside a Pyramid, and have to help a ghost-queen find her way to the otherworld. The queen, dead for over a thousand years, is stuck in this world, and needs to decipher some hieroglyphs to get to the otherworld. She can't, because of short-sightedness. Jack's glasses are of no help to a person made up of air, because she is made up of air! A real-world ailment for the departed, but without a real-world cure.
Jack and Annie are siblings, eight-and-a-half years and seven years old respectively. They find a tree house high up in a tree one day, and which has several books in it. Jack loved reading, while Annie had a sense of adventure. Looking at a book and wishing to go there took them to that place.

In both their earlier adventures, Jack and Annie got into some trouble, and received some help from unexpected quarters. In this third adventure too they get help, from a cat!

Like the earlier adventures, this book also contains eye-catching illustrations, some of which are full-paged. The style of writing is engaging, the language simple, the plot interesting, and the dialog of and between Jack and Annie brings out the personalities of the two children.

Unlike the first two adventures, however, this third adventures felt a bit contrived. I got the impression that the adventure lacked enough surprises to keep my fully engaged.

My 4-year-old is an early independent reader. She has a fascination with Ancient Egypt and Egyptian mummies, and this book has been a huge hit with her! She doesn't find it scary, but like I said, she already has an interest in mummies. Tonight she wanted to stay up late reading it to herself instead of going to bed. It's a real page-turner for her. All of the Magic Tree House books have been this way, so far. Good stories, frequent cliff-hangers at the ends of chapters. I would recommend it- especially to anyone with kids interested in the whole Ancient Egypt thing!

Synopsis: The book starts off with Jack and Annie visiting the Magic Tree House once again. Jack senses that there is someone watching them nearby, even though he cannot see anyone. In the tree house, they see a book open on ancient Egypt with a picture of a pyramid. They decide to go Egypt, and with the help of the Magic Tree House, they soon find themselves there.

In Egypt, outside the pyramids, they see a grand funeral procession carrying a sarcophagus into the pyramid. Annie is excited to find out if there is a mummy inside and decides to get off the tree house and join the parade. Jack follows her, but soon they see the parade disappear inside the pyramid. They decide to go inside and are shocked to find the ghost of Hutepi, Queen of the Nile, approach them. She tells them that she has been trying to find the Book of the Dead for 1000 years and without it, she cannot go to her next life. Due to her near-sightedness, she cannot read the hieroglyphics in the walls that provide clues as to where the Book is located.

It is up to Jack and Annie to help Queen Hutepi and try to find their way back to the Tree House. Will they successfully be able to read the hieroglyphics correctly, and find the right passage to go out of the Pyramids, even though they know that there are a lot of fake passages located to confuse tomb robbers?

Review: I thought this was another very nicely written book in the series. Some of the facts provided in the book about the funeral processions, mummies and tomb robbers were interesting to read, but I wish the author had provided more background about the life of Queen Hutepi, rather than providing facts just about funerals and robbers and ghosts that seemed a tad bit morbid to me for a children's book. She seemed like a very interesting character, and I would have liked to read more about her life and what she did. The book also adds a mysterious feeling to is as to who the black cat really represented, or if the people in the procession were ghosts or a mirage. However, it was also fun to read the different hieroglyphics and find out where the Book of the Dead was located.

Some parts which I thought stood out in the book were when Jack and Annie help Queen Hutepi, when they find themselves lost in the passages, and when they see a tomb robber drop a scepter. The illustrations by Sal Murdocca add well to the book and I enjoyed looking at the ones where Jack and Annie see Queen Hutepi's ghost, and when Jack places the scroll on top of the Queen's tomb.

I also agree that some of the subject matter in the books might be a little inappropriate for really young children, for example, when as Jack and Annie going near a real mummy, or when they see ghosts at a funeral procession. I feel this book would be more suited for children who are more than 7 years old at least. Overall, I thought this was another good addition to the Magic Tree House series and would recommend it to anyone else who likes to read it.

I love this series. Hesitant young readers can begin reading Magic Treehouse Book 1 at a second grade reading level, and slowly stretch their skills to a fifth grade reading level as they travel through time and space with the beloved characters of Jack and Annie. Along the way, children also learn some of our favorite science and history pop culture references.

This book provides a lot of information about ancient Egypt. For example, I learned how ancient Egyptians lived and what they did in their everyday life. The book has a solid chapter about ancient Egyptian art. I was surprised at how many different types of art there were. Ancient Egyptians painted, weaved and made pots, statues and jars out of clay. They also made jewelry and large pots out of gold. I also learned about their burial chambers in the pyramids. They put paintings and all of their belongings in the tombs for use in their after lives. The pyramids are made of big stone blocks. Workers would move the heavy stone blocks into the shape of a pyramid. The book describes how the ancient Egyptians also built large ships and small canoes to go down the Nile River. This book is an interesting introduction to ancient Egypt. I would recommend this book to anyone who wants to learn about ancient Egypt and the pyramids.

In the book Mummies in the Morning, Jack and Annie travel to Egypt. Jack and Annie follow an Egyptian black cat into a pyramid. Inside the pyramid, Jack and Annie think they have encountered a tomb robber but instead it is an Egyptian Ghost Queen named Hutepi. Hutepi needs Jack and Annie to find her Book of the Dead. The book will help her go on to the "Next Life". Jack and Annie read tiny pictures carved into the stone walls of the pyramid called hieroglyphs. The hieroglyphs give them the clues they need. While Jack takes the scroll and puts it with the mummy of Hutepi, Annie takes off and gets separated from Jack. Once reunited, they cannot find their way out of the pyramid until the Egyptian black cat appears and shows them the way home.

We have been reading these books to our five (almost 6) year old for a couple of months now and he really enjoys them. He can read on his own at a D/E level so these are a little too advanced for him to read alone but he LOVES having them read to him. He begs for me to read "just one more chapter" every night. Great story lines, simple enough for young kids to understand yet educational. The author isn't afraid to use big words which we like as parents. Our soon to be 4 year old wants to start "reading" them as well, but I'm not sure he has the attention span for it yet. Highly recommend!!

The Magic Tree House books are a MUST READ collection for all children. Unlike many other series for young readers, the Magic Tree House should be read in chronological order to best appreciate Jack and Annie's travels through time as they go on various missions; which are typically completed in four parts. Parents and educators will enjoy going along for the ride as much as their students! My daughter is a teenager now but she still gets excited when she sees a new tree house adventure has come out.

Great affordable, educational, engaging book introducing mummies, pyramids, and Egypt. What a nice way to present information for inquisitive children.

My daughter was very interested in learning about mummies last summer and recently in her class they were/are looking at the history of the world through artifacts. The teacher has commented on how she knows a lot about Egypt and its history. I asked my daughter where she got her knowledge and she pulled this book out, along with a couple others, also on Egypt, that we had bought last summer. The information obviously made an impression.

Wonderful

If you're interested in fantasy fiction books like this one then this is the book for you. At the begining of the story Jack and Annie go into the treehouse and wish to go the pyramids of egypt. In the middle of the story they find a egyption ghost from the past. she is trying to lookk for four egyption symbols. To find out what happends to Jack and Annie, read this book. I gave it five stars because of its mysterious ending.

Daughter loved this book. Quite easy for her, but it was nice to have her read a book and get it all. My daughter is 9 and it is a great book to #1) enjoy and #2) we have looked at elements of style for her own writing. We have looked at:, :, !, ", block quotes like examples, and simple sentences.

It was a great story to enjoy and an even more enjoyable way to propel her writing from such wonderful and easy to follow examples.

The purpose of these little books

Is to encourage reading

And judging from the ones I've seen

They seem to be succeeding

A tree house filled with many books

That's like a time machine

To travel to another place

Just wish, and choose a scene

This third book's set upon the Nile

Inside a royal tomb

Two children help a Queen to find

Her book with spells of doom

Hieroglyphs and secret doors

A mummy's face up close

If you hate rotting bandages

You might think this one's gross

Through the eyes of these young kids

The reader will discover

Learning can be lots of fun

Once you open that cover

I was in 3rd Grade, severely dyslexic and frustrated because I didnt know how to read beyond what is written for babies. However despite this I had a knack for history, especially ancient egypt. My teacher gave this book to me and taught me how to read it, over and over until with the help of the series i slowly caught up to the rest of the kids. Yes the early books had fragmented grammer, but for someone like me who was struggling to read it worked out fine. I currently have all of the books from the series I grew up with, I stopped in 2004 as I was too old, but I am collecting the series for my son, who I hope, one day, love the series just like I did.

Jack and Annie help Queen of the Nile, Hutepi, travel to the new world. They helped her find the Book of the Dead and lead her to the Underworld to get her to the next life.
The book was very interesting because Jack and Annie help Hutepi read pictures that make up words. It was pretty cool to read about a ghost queen that couldn't see very well!
