I like this historical novel Homeland by John Jakes. BUT why is my kindle keep going back to the beginning of the book everytime I shut it down. I lose the whole book each day and I must page forward several hundred pages to reach my bookmark. I want to continue to use the kindle but that is unlikely if I don't get some help. WHO DO I CALL????????HELP!!!!!!!

Enjoyed reading this book. Sometimes could not put it down. Learned a lot of history I either did not remember or did not know.
Would reccommend this book to be read by all persons interested in knowing about America at the end of the ninteenth century
And the beginning of the twentyeeth century

This was an enchanting book but was far too long. It would have been better to break it up into a trilogy whereby the part about the Boer war and that period of time was a bit more informative, rather than it feeling a bit rushed to get to a final ending.

Altogether, a good read. I thought that the description of the characters, as they were presented, was somewhat excessive in detail. Perhaps this does not occur in the following volumes of his "Saga". I will find out as I read Volume 2!

Jakes has a unique ability to present history using real characters and his imagined ones to capture the story. I have read the complete Kent series and have just purchased the next one of this series.

John Jakes gets an A+ again. His look at America's history through the eyes of a young German immigrant in the 1890s weaves historical people, places and events together to form a fascinating story of the fabric that formed this country. Anyone wanting to delve into America's past would be wise to read any novel by John Jakes.

Compelling characters, with Jakes' usual history lessons. Am learning things about 19th century America I never knew before. Good story but tempered by Jakes' limited artistic abilities. But I will continue to read him.
