This book is a classic! Even though this book has been around for a while and I have read it many times, it never gets old or outdated. The wisdom that this book brings is priceless. I will always have a copy of this book somewhere in my collection!

This is such a great purchase if you're interested in expanding your views on compassion.
I've only had a chance to read the first 10 pages because of school, but I'm looking forward to my free time again to read some more.
Definitely recommend.

Best book on grieving and retraining our Western perspective on death. I can't recommend it strongly enough if you are dealing with a loss or interested in understanding the difference between Eastern and Western philosophy on death.

Perfect in helping me understand the process after my Mother died and invaluable in helping my father prepare for his passing and after. I refer to the wisdom in this with all my students and really do encourage everyone should read this book.

This book provides an excellent overview for a western non-tibetan public about a much neglected topic in our culture: death and dying. Given that at present we have a longer life expectancy and there is generalized search por a spiritual renewal - this book provides a very important contribution. The book explains from an insider's perspective, not only how the process of dying takes place but how a different way to look at death can transform the way we live.

Sogyal Rimpoche was born in Tibet and educated by Catholic nuns after arriving in India at age 8. Went on to study at Cambridge. During those formative years he also studied with the greatest of the exiled Tibetan master. This book presents the wisdom of Tibet in a useable fashion for the Western mind.

Important, vital reading. A little complex at times but mostly easy to read and absolutely worth sticking with. This book and the remarkable information it contains will change your life forever and give you valuable insight into and acceptance of the lives and deaths of your loved ones and your own.

One of the best books I have ever read. Accessible to the layman, but providing a very rich insight into the Tibetan Buddhist culture and belief system. You have to read it for yourself to understand, but with every page it fills my heart with warmth and clarity and I keep going back to it time after time. It is timeless.

When you first see this book, the impression is simplicity, the paper feels like recycled paper.
Then to open and read a book that is so beautifully written is a treasure. I have endured too many deaths of my loved ones and not all are the passing from this earth. It is carefully and thoughtfully written and so very thought provoking. I am reading it slowly so I may absorb all the lessons of life that are its intent. I would love every one to read this.

Not being raised Buddhist, but starting to learn it about through my yoga practice over the years, this book (for me) has answered and raised many questions!
It has shifted my view of life, our purpose and death and of its purpose. The book is written is an easy to read and follow style as if you are talking with Mr. Rinpoche over a cup of tea.
I highly recommend to everyone of every religious belief and especially to those that have none.

There is controversy surrounding Sogyal Rinpoche personally but the information in the book is invaluable as a working text for the layman who wishes to understand and connect to the Laws governing Life and Death..

People say life doen't come with an instruction manual, well this is it. Why you are here; what is important; how to deal with departure (death), your own and others; what happens if you spend your life sidetracked by the 'immediate but not important' issues. Written in a way that compels you to move to action, beyond simple intellectual curiousity. IF YOU DON'T WANT TO CHANGE YOUR LIFE, DO NOT READ THIS BOOK!

Dear Friends,

This book is really an astonishing read of how as a young boy Sogyal Rinpoche was recognised as the incarnation of an enlightened Master. It tells of his life as student to the most accomplished meditation masters of this era, and gives prctical instructions on how we can integrate this healing wisdom into our modern lives. I have to tell you that this book has helped me a great deal and i know i will refer to it again and again as a guide to help me in my life today.

This work of Sogyal Rinpoche's makes the process that we all go through in death very clear and understandable. He explains very important practices we can do during our life that help us prepare for death, but more importantly, help us to live this life from a better perspective. I've found it an invaluable resource.
