Originally I read this from my local library but was so impressed that I ordered it for my permanent book collection from the store. Some fascinating and innovative treatments for brain injury. I am keeping this for future reference in case anyone of my family or friends (God forbid) should need a second opinion in the event of a TBI. Written in a way easy for laymen to understand, but not in any way condescending. Highly recommended.

Great book! I have recommended this book to my clients/patients and I would recommend it for anyone trying to have more clear brain function. It is a wealth of information about research and brain training! Thank you Dr. Doidge!

Everybody, and I mean everybody, should read this book. Western medicine has been focused on pills and surgery while failing to utilize the power of the brain in healing. Our local Parkinsons Disease support group is reading, digesting and discussing this book in detail.

Clearly written description of the recent neuroplasticity research. I'm very grateful for the author's ability to pull together a great deal of current neuroscience research and then write about it in a way any lay person could understand.

Another brilliant book by the author of The Brian that Changes Itself. Norman knwos how to distillate the material so a layman can understand and marvel at what is possible.

The book paints compulsive portraits of individuals who have made extraordinary advances in treating people with debilitating and sometimes congenital brain injuries. The author also attempts to create a theory of this neural recovery, which I am certain will evolve as the new paradigm of neuroplasticity gets established.

Fascinating explanations of intricate interconnections of brain and body relating to alternative healing methods and case histories. There is much to learn beyond traditional cook book medicine, which though it has its place, is only part of the equation.

The book is extremely well written and highly readable. It presents many case studies with scientific references to back up the author's claims. As a health-care provider I enjoyed reading it and am recommending it to my colleagues.

Very disappointed. I loved his first book, read it twice and have recommended it to a number of people. This is a poor second effort. It's as though he had one good book in him and is trying to recapture the magic, but doesn't have the material to pull it together.
If you're looking for a good science book, I'd suggest The Gene: An Intimate History by Siddhartha Mukherjee which is the best science book I've read this year, or read Doidge's first book, The Brain that Changes Itself.

Before going to the publisher, this author added an appendix about matrix re patterning... And it's benefits for concussions..
Or any history of an impact injury...
Few get by without one!
There are only -about 7 people in the USA doing this work.... They trained in Toronto Canada.
Highly recommend it.

A really important book, with fascinating case studies that give evidence of the immense power of thought in activating healing in the brain, as well as the extraordinary techniques and processes developed to bring about healing through stimulating neuroplasticity.
