Terry Crews describes the problems he faced in life with good insight humor and honesty. He got to that point only after many failures, struggles, self assessment, introspection, religion/faith/spirituality and help from psychologists. He was raised in a family where his parents constantly fought and his father beat his mother. He used education and a football scholarship to escape Flint but then could not make it on 6 NFL teams so he moved to Los Angeles to try to use is creative talents (drawing, script writing) to get involved in the movie industry. He lucked out in getting an audition, that a friend told him about, by being fit and athletic. After a sexual indiscretion, and the threat of divorce from his wife, Rebecca, of over 20 years, he went through the process of self discovery, and realized he had been manipulative, non-empathetic, and totally narcissistic in his dealings with people. He describes an incident in which he took an online psychological assessment and realized he was narcissistic. He ran downstairs and told his wife and daughter he discovered he was narcissistic and his wife said: "Ya Think?" Crews says that most of his good decisions were made when he listened to Rebecca. After reading this book I watched Expendables 2, White Chicks, and Idiocracy. Crews has good screen presence especially when given creative space in the comedies. Idiocracy is actually a movie everyone should watch because of the political statement it makes.

Book does have some good lessons to learn from and I do think Terry Crews is a great actor and has had a challenging life and made the best of every moment given to him, but I would say the title is a little deceptive as to what to expect from reading. The book is more of a biography, which is perfectly fine and my be what he was trying to accomplish, I just expected more which could be mistake on my part.
Thank you Terry for glemce into your family!

I simply love this memoir. Mr. Crews bared his soul, his hurts, his truths about himself and shared his strength, courage and wisdom that he's garnered from those difficult places in his life. Reading about the pressures and pain that he lived under for a large portion of his life could have ground him to dust, but he kept pushing back until eventually he broke free and my, isn't he flying. This is a wonderful, insightful and loving tribute to himself, his wife and family and to manhood.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I saw an interview he did where he discussed masculinity/manhood in a more focused way. I like how he shows how he developed his ideas about identity from his life experiences, but I would have appreciated a more active commentary on the idea of masculinity itself. It's that balance of autobiography and analysis, I wish he had put in more analysis. Overall though, a great read. I even lent the book to a friend. I'm such a fan now, it takes guts to be so honest and open.

I love this dude from TV and movies (White Chicks!), because he projects such confidence and will do anything for a laugh. So as a new dad, I bought Manhood to see how Terry balanced it all, because he even has time for the gym. And….I loved this book because he admits so many mistakes. He's Honest! You get behind-the-scenes stories about Expendables and Everybody Hates Chris, but at heart this is a tale about how to balance work and home life, and how at times he really effed up. It's inspiring. My wife thanks you, Terry! So does my friend's wife, I bought it for him.

Ladies, don't let the title sway you into thinking this book is just for men. It is most certainly not. I began reading this book and could not put it down. I appreciate his honestly and thanks Terry for letting me see what a good marriage is supposed to be. There were so many times that I paused just to digest what I had just read because it stirred such deep feelings within myself. I deserve so much better that what I've allowed myself to endure in my marriage.

Not really a handbook or list of advice but rather Terry's own personal story. As a huge Terry Crews fan, this is a must have for me. Admittedly this is a fun read similar to the Deion Sanders, Terrell Owens, Jordan Belfort, Nathaniel Tilton, and Forrest Griffin. I recommend all of them. If you're going to read, it might as well be fun, right?

I was really impressed with Manhood and found a lot of encouragement there, not just for myself, but also for our ministry XXXchurch. It’s yet another reminder that we’re talking about something that touches far more people than care to admit it, and that there’s a whole upcoming generation that needs to know about this more than ever.

Good book, it is mostly an autobiography of Terry. If you are looking for a guideline on manhood this is not it. The title might seem misleading, it does not tell you what manhood is or how to achieve it (at least not directly), it is mostly about what it is not and one man's journey.
I would suggest if this is your first book on self improvement go somewhere else (David Deida for example), if you have read and thought a lot about self improvement, you will find the gold nuggets in the story, and maybe like I did, identify yourself with the struggle.
Terry is awesome, whether you are going to buy this book or not, look for his youtube channel and his talks.

Loved this book! Such a good read! I seriously couldn't put it down. Manhood isn't just for the men, the life lessons and experiences have totally spoken to me. One of my favorite quotes from the book is- Every man has 3 things in them: a fool, a victim, and a king. Whichever you feed is the one you become. This book has so much heart and soul and the reader can take so much away from it to use in everyday life to aid you in becoming the best version of yourself. It also gives you a better understanding as to what the men in your life may be going through. All around great book, I definitely recommend this read!

This book talks about struggle that almost every man deals with. It's not a self help book in the sense that it has 5 ways to be a better man but it does have lots of stories that teach lessons like working hard, keeping your head down and keep going, accept help from others, get a mentor, spend within your means, be truthful and honest with your family, say sorry to people you wronged, admit mistakes, forgive those who hurt you and try to understand them, indiscretions big or small hurt your relationships, being thankful for what you have, do a good job even when no one is watching, be the best at what you do and more. Terry Crews even talks about his insecurities as a man which you would not think a man like him would have. I am so thankful for this book and would love to sit down and talk to Terry Crews someday and learn more about him and how he grew up to be a good man.

I have so much respect for Terry after reading this. It takes more than many know to look at your past, notice what, when, and where you did wrong, and recognize it. This book is inspiring even for women, as it's refreshing to be reminded that the men in our lives who have hurt us can change if they put forth the effort. I love this book and highly recommend it.
