I love the characters. From the 1st page you fall in love worry and feel proud of Brooke and Bree for all they have survived. And when things looks like all is lost love wins it all. Thanx for a great read.

Slow. It was about running down this street, that street, then fast "action" scenes. It started great but then just dragged. I finished in hopes it would pick back up. I love Morgan Rice books, but this was disappointing.

The edge-of-your seat action never stops. Read it in one sitting.
It is an easy read and is easy to follow with believable characters. Although, the amount of injury and car crashes that one can realistically survive is a little overplayed. All in all an entertaining, fun form of escapism.

If you notice, half of the readers gave it around 50% below five stars and there are good reasons. I enjoyed at the beginning, till she had to fight in the arena, then reality was thrown out of the window. I accepted the first time, but when she did it a second time, I couldn't read anymore. As a writer, you have to write a story that sounds realistic. Even if it is a fantasy or supernatural, you have to give a ring of reality to it, as if it were real. She survived in the wilderness for three years and she knew these Slaverunners were awful remnants of past life, they killed viciously and you die in the arena if you can't survival. She's in the arena (her daddy taught her how to fight, but funny he didn't tell her to fight for her life. She's fighting the champion who is huge and weighs something like 500 pounds. She watched as he killed a small man and didn't give him any chance. She goes in there and gets the upper hand and raises to kill him and then say's "Oh, maybe I shouldn't kill him, I can't kill him, even though he's trying to kill me). Suddenly it turns into a silly and unrealistic writing. So he grabs her ankle and slams her and so forth and then she gets a second chance to kill him and she stands there and thinks, 'I can't kill him, I can't.. Before that, she's a vicious and shooting and stuff. If you want to put total reality on the shelf then go ahead and read it, I couldn't.

This is certainly fast-paced and filled with action, so much so that it was exhausting to read it! The suspense is incredible. And even though much of it is impossible, that's sometimes the point of fiction, it makes you wonder and helps you to escape into another world...not that I would like to live in this post-apocalyptic world that is brimming with cruelty, battles, slave-runners and snow.

The main characters fit well into the story, the world-building is excellent and the blood-pumping action is amazing. There are some great descriptions, too.

Yes, there are typos and yes, some things are impossible but it I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Highly recommended.

I admire the author's tenacity and imagination, and I understand this is youth fiction, but is the author a young teen? The writing is so juvenile. EVERYONE TALKS IN ALL CAPS, and some version of the word "scream" is used in virtually every paragraph for large chunks of the book. The protagonist miraculously survives a loooong series of deadly attacks and bone-crushing accidents but is then horrified beyond belief that her favorite Barnes & Noble was ransacked. This is nothing like The Hunger Games series. I'm sorry. Not a fan.

Interesting gripping novel about a teen trying to hold her family together against impossible odds. The world has gone to hell but theres a few good people left to fight against all that has gone wrong. Impossible to put down.

Set in a dystopian New York, it follows the lives of Brooke and her younger sister Bree as they try and survive after war destroyed their country. They also had to avoid slave runners who captured people to fight like gladiators in arenas, the worse one being Arena 1. Whilst Brooke is searching for a food a sick Bree is captured by the slave runners forcing Brooke to go and rescue her. Whilst racing after her she meets a Ben who’s younger brother was captured and together they go into the lion’s den and to try and rescue them.
Brooke is a marine’s daughter and this makes her a strong girl but with everything her body goes through to try and rescue her sister is unbelievable and I kept wondering how much more her body could take. Ben was quite a weak companion but as the story progressed he did become into his own and showed some fighting spirit.
The story was enjoyable and will carry on with the series to see what happens to the trio

This book is totally unlike the other Rice books I've read ,but just as good. The characters still your heart, the plot is engrossing, and the story line is fast paced and grabs your complete interest. Another great read from Morgan Rice!

I consider myself someone who is obsessed with dystopian books. I read every one I can get my hands on. In the many I have read I see them blur together and share ideas. This book was refreshingly unique. It didn't steal ideas from others, was written well, and was fun to read. I can't wait for the 3rd one!

Well written teen drama. Kept the pages turning til the book was finished. Some grammatical errors make the reading choppy in parts, but still worth reading. Plot well thought out and leaves you wanting Arena 2 immediately.

The "Survival Trilogy" is a fast paced book of what extreme measures a teen had to take to protect her family in a post-apocalyptic world. I couldn't put it down and read through Arena 2 as soon as it became available. I am now anxiously awaiting the release of Arena 3.
