I find this the saddest of the series, the heartbreak of the characters can be felt across the pages making the happy ending a sought after relief. I have loved her books since stumbling across the first one at the library, can't wait for the next...excited to find out if it continues the characters in this series or introduces new ones, I will read it eagerly!

As an attorney who regularly represents clients who are victims of abuse, I found this book especially reprehensible. It's a dreadful book: fetishism for "spanking" and male domination of wife disguised as "adorable, male care taking."
In addition, I found this to be not especially well-written, lacking in the quirky humor that characterizes the writing of the author's aunt-by-marriage (Janet Evanovich), and I felt that this author was deliberately capitalizing on her name and relationship to her more famous aunt.
If this truly is your "thing," you need to examine your motives. In addition, I found the fact that this male character hits his wife until she cries and is truly in some degree of pain, before he stops, to be truly repugnant. The fact that the author disguises this as 'consensual' is really disturbing. I think these characters need help, I think this is precisely the type of 'consensual' activity that has the potential for escalating, as the character needs more and more stimulation. This is a very dangerous portrayal of something really dark and risky as something fun and only mildly kinky.

I am a first time reader of Stephanie Evanovich's books. When I first started reading "The Total Package" I thought that the book was going to be about a down and out football player, and since I not a fan of "sports books" I was disappointed but pushed myself to keep reading so I could do a decent review. I am so glad I did because this book would be interesting to any number of readers even if they didn't like sport stories. There are several main characters in the book - well fleshed out and interesting - and each has a secret or surprise that slowly unfolds as the story progresses. It is these secrets/surprises that keeps the reader on their toes and encourages you to read the next chapter to find out what is really going on.

As expected after reading her previous novels, Stephanie Evanovich delivers when it comes to wit, snark, humor, and dialogue. The delectable steamy scenes are an added bonus!
I'll admit that from the synopsis, I wasn't sure where this story was going to lead. However, it went in some fun and interesting directions with a few twists. Both Dani and Tyson are likable and I enjoyed reading their perspectives. I also enjoyed seeing the characters from her previous novels and finding out what they've been up to. (Warning...if you haven't read the first two, there are some spoilers. Having said that, Big Girl Panties contained spoilers for The Sweet Spot, which came out afterward, and I still enjoyed that book too. So don't miss out on those two if you've read this one first.) And even though I am not a football person, reading this novel made me slightly more interested in the sport and all that goes along with it.
I'm still not a fan of mixing narratives within a section (having one person's thoughts blend into the other person's thoughts) instead of separating them out. I have gotten used to it being part of Stephanie's style, but it still is confusing. Aside from that, some parts of the story felt like they jumped around a bit or were disjointed at times. There was a cool idea toward the beginning that I would have liked to see played with more, but it ended up getting dropped.
Overall, The Total Package was a fun and easygoing beach read, but be prepared to blush if you read it in public.
Casting ideas:
Dani: Mia Serafino
Tyson: Tyler Hoechlin
Marcus: Lucas Till
Clinton: Aaron Eckhart

I borrowed this book from the library a few days ago and honestly I can't really come up with many positive things to say about it. The initial basis for the novel (about the first 30%) seems to set up for some sort of addiction fighting/comeback story for the main character, but the immediate next chapter jumps forward four years. All of a sudden this addict is totally clean, has no problems with coping with his old habit, and is respectable in every way. He's given up the party lifestyle and is now Mr. Perfect. I feel as if I might actually enjoyed this novel if it had shown his struggles in a fresh way, but instead we get a rushed 'he's clean now and there's nothing to worry about. Get over it.'
On the other hand, we have the heroine. I hesitate to call her a heroine because she represents everything wrong with the novel (and incidentally, her 'transformation' is why I'm giving it 1 star instead of 3). She's a little on the pudgy side and only manages to grab the football star's attention because she was his tutor in college. Because of her we get a nice little view of how horrible a person the hero is, when he claims that she wasn't 'hot enough to marry' (or something along those lines). Pick up after the four year time jump and she's pulled a She's All That on herself, getting highlights in her hair, losing weight, and generally looking so different that the hero doesn't recognize her. But he still tries to sleep with her. Mind you, this is after his supposed transformation to Mr. Perfect.
The reason this bothers me so much is because of the underlying message: If you want the total package, you'd better lose that weight and color treat your hair, because god forbid a man so perfect would love you otherwise. This is a fundamental rejection of the tone of modern Romantic novels, and smacks of all kinds of shallowness that I don't even want to get into. I'll cut myself off here, and just summarize by saying that there are better books out there.

Summary:
The New York Times bestselling author of Big Girl Panties is back with a funny, sweet, and sizzling novel about love, redemption, and second chances.
Heartthrob star quarterback Tyson Palmer has it all: a million-dollar arm, a winning season and the promise of a Superbowl ring. But more importantly, football’s biggest star is the ultimate comeback kid. After an addiction to painkillers nearly derailed his career, Tyson got sober and went from zero to hero in the eyes of the public.
But one person remains unconvinced: Dani Carr, a sports commentator with high ratings and following of her own.
Dani can’t forgive Tyson’s transgressions or forget a single passionate night with him back in college. To make things worse, Tyson doesn’t realize that the bombshell with huge ratings is the cute co-ed whose heart he once broke.
But can a sports journalist trying to claw her way to the top and a quarterback who knows all about rock bottom make it to the Super Bowl without destroying each other? And what will happen when Tyson—riding high now that he’s revived his career—realizes he needs to make an even more important comeback with Dani? Can he use his million-dollar moves to get past her defenses—or will she sideline him for good?
Review:
I downloaded this book from Audible to enjoy listening to while on walks with my dog. I chose this one because I have not read much from Stephanie Evanovich and also because I am a big football fan, and since one of the main characters plays in the NFL and the other is a sports commentator, I thought this would be a good ft. I wasn’t totally correct there. The beginning started off pretty slow for me and the pacing seemed to drag at points. I would find my mind wandering often while listening and then have to rewind the audio to make sure I wasn’t missing any key points to the story. I didn’t quite understand the connection Tyson and Dani had – from the beginning to when they met again. They never seemed quite compatible and Dani was a little mundane to me. Tyson was an interesting character but toward the end was almost portrayed as just the perfect man, which I didn’t love.
There are plenty of sweet plot points along the way and I did enjoy the secondary characters, though the manipulative football coach was a little overboard for me. The ending was nice and I did enjoy listening to the narration. While not a favorite of mine, light romance fans might enjoy this one. For me, it was just okay.

The Total Package is more than just your average romance. This is a story about overcoming addiction, learning to love yourself first and then making amends for past mistakes. Tyson had it all, and then he didn't. His life was full of nights he couldn't remember and some that he was happy to forget... Until, he's pulled from the gutter and given an offer he can't refuse. Someone is willing to believe in him and give his career another chance, IF he's willing to give his recovery 150%. He gives it 200%.
Dani Carr was part of one of those nights and she will never forget that night, as she has life long precious souvenir from her one night with Tyson, and he looks just like his father. She's a hard working single mom in the male dominated field of sports broadcasting. She's been given a job she can't refuse as well, but this job will put her in close proximity to Tyson. The new Tyson resembles the man she once loved before his wild side emerged. She wants with all her heart to give him another chance, but the secret she's hiding is a big one and not one that will easily be forgiven or forgotten.
Stephanie Evanovich won this readers favor again with The Total Package. I love her writing style, that her characters are flawed, but redeemable. I felt Tyson's struggle from the bottom back to the top of his game. My only critique is I would love to have more of Tyson's return to the game. I understood the skipping ahead four years, as that is when our hero and heroine were destined to reunite. I am a fan of sports action woven into a story and would have loved more of his action on the field. That being said, I loved the plotting and how these two reunite, it felt natural and real. Once these two reunite they are five-alarm fire hot!
Fans of Big Girl Panties will love revisiting with Logan and Holly, as Logan is the the trainer chosen to bring Tyson back to NFL condition. We also get to visit with Chase & Amanda Walker at a very special event (that I won't spoil here) and Chase's kink (you know what I am referencing), may or may not rub off a little on our hero or heroine.
I gave The Total Package -5 Stars. I can't wait for more from Stephanie Evanovich.

Romances that blend the theme of sports with characters who reinvent themselves are amongst my favorites, which is what drew me to this story at first. Though it sometimes dragged it was the character of Tyson and his journey to be a better man that kept me turning the pages of this good story. Add in secrets that the heroine is keeping and you end up with a story that's emotionally intense at times as well as inspirational.
Tyson was once the star of the football team until his vices dragged him down. With only an ultimatum left to him he grabbed on to it, but in the process hurt the one woman who truly cared for him by loving and leaving her. He's still rebuilding his image years later, atoning for past wrongs, and becoming a more appealing and mature man. He's quit partying and devoted himself to the game, but soon he can't ignore the sexy spitfire on the sidelines and sets out to claim her. Unbeknownst to him, she's the girl from his past who supported him when no one else would and as they get closer painful truths will come out. Tyson was rather unlikable early on with his callous attitude and arrogance. His addictions brought him low and it was an admirable journey watching him find himself. It was a subtle but powerful journey and handled sensitively by the author. The older Tyson was much more likable and I ached for him and for all he missed. He's more worthy of his HEA now though, but it won't be easy as there's a lot of anger and deceit hanging between him and Dani.
Dani knew Tyson from long ago as she was his tutor who he knew as Ella. She always loved him which had her making a decision that would change her life irrevocably. Years later she's still drawn to him but he doesn't remember her. It's time to start over for her too, time to forgive but also to tell the truth. It's a truth that will change them both as well as their future. Dani was a determined woman who loved Tyson despite everything he did. While I didn't appreciate her keeping secrets I could understand it. Despite the passage of time though I still found her a bit immature at times which left me frustrated by my inability to connect too deeply with her.
This was a story that often dragged. Too many mundane events were depicted that slowed the narrative down along with lengthy time jumps. The story's written in the third person POV which kept me from fully connecting with the characters but their banter was fun and flirty at times which charmed me. The secondary characters were enjoyable as well, especially Dani's family and the group of friends Tyson now surrounds himself with. On a whole, despite my small quibbles, this was a good reads that got better as the story progressed as I was drawn to Tyson and his journey of healing.

"Where your treasure is, there will your heart be also."
----J.K.Rowling
Stephanie Evanovich, the New York Times bestselling author, pens her new chick-lit drama, The Total Package, that narrates the love story of a quarterback on the football team who is trying to atone for his past mistakes both on professional as well as personal front, and am ambitious hot and sexy side-line sports reporter, who has her own secrets to keep her away from the man who once broke her heart.
Synopsis:
Smart and sexy Dani Carr knows as much about football as any man--maybe more. It’s always been her dream to make a living talking about the game she loves. But Dani’s not interested in being just the usual eye-candy sideline reporter; she wants to be the first woman analyst on a pre-game show, the ultimate in exclusive boys-club jobs. And it turns out, that despite the odds, she has the talent to get her there.
Star quarterback-and heartthrob--Tyson Palmer always did things in spectacular fashion, including ruining his career after debuting as a first-round draft pick. When the head coach of the Austin Mavericks refuses to let him waste his million dollar arm, Tyson makes a Hail Mary pass at redemption and succeeds with everyone…except Dani, who appears to be using her high-profile commentator job to make a name for herself at his expense.
Dani refuses to let anyone forget about Tyson’s transgressions….and for good reason. There’s history between these two, sizzling history that dates back to their college days, and it ended in another spectacular flame-out of Tyson’s. He’s conveniently forgotten all about that episode because Dani is no longer the cute girl next door he barely remembers--she’s a bombshell with huge ratings and a long memory.
But can a woman trying to claw her way to the top and a quarterback who knows all about rock bottom make it to the Super Bowl without destroying each other in the process? And what will happen when Tyson-riding high on his career comeback-realizes he needs to make an even more important comeback with Dani?
Tyson Palmer is the famous quarterback who was a heart-breaker, but after a stint at a rehab owning to his substance addiction, he is a reformed man now. And is more focused on his game rather than chasing skirts and breaking them. Tyson's eye catches the sexy reporter whom he could not recognize from his destructive and wild past. Will he get to make this woman fall for him despite of so much reluctance from her end?
Dani Carr is the hot and sexy side-line sports reporter, who after spending one night in the company of Tyson and in end getting her heart broken, is now adamant that she won't give her heart to this man anymore, also because of the secret that she keeps more close to her heart than any man. Dani is now ambitious and the distraction of Tyson being there all the time is not helping her at all. Will she get away from the man who once broke her heart?
The author's writing style is quite charming and at times the narrative is layered with funny anecdotes and with lots of emotional moments. The narrative is engaging and at times bit cheesy, considering the fact that this is a dramatic romance chick-lit story. The pacing at times goes from being slow to being medium. There are some mundane day to day activities mentioned page after page that put me off for a bit and the time jumps are way too abrupt, which made it real difficult for me to comprehend with the main characters' feelings.
The characters are well-developed and they go through a lot of evolution given the challenges they had to face all through the story. Dani is incurably in love with the man who broke her heart ages ago, it seems she could not get over him and still fancies him. And this distraction made it difficult for her to achieve success in her job as a sports presenter. Tyson is the character, whom I really liked through out the story. He is handsome and level-headed, but Tyson when he was in college was wild and an addict. I loved the reformed Tyson much better as he turned into an understanding jock. Moreover, the issues with Tyson are depicted with lots of sensitivity and realism. The supporting characters are also quite well-crafted.
The love story between Tyson and Dani is sweet in the beginning then it turned something compassionate. Their love grew eventually with time. The love scenes between them are projected with passion and depth that can make the readers feel for the characters.
Overall, this is a charming and entertaining story that will make you fall in love with the idea of love yet one more time.

I Dived into The Total Package blind, with absolutely no idea what to expect from Stephanie Evanovich, a new author to me. Happily, I like what I read. A lot!
Tyson Palmer is a washed-up football player. His Father/Manager Douglas Palmer introduced him to a different world where his life existence is alcohol abuse, pain medication addiction and an ex-wife. He's caught up in a downward spiral and lost his self-respect. He's come back for a Homecoming reunion, but he doesn't know why he even bothered to make the trip. He's a pathetic figure, a shadow if his former self, sitting alone in The Bunker, where he's having a pity party. Ignored by those around him, Tyson is surprised when his former student tutor "Ella Bella" approaches him. She wants to help him, but all he sees is a woman to satisfy his carnal needs. He uses her and leaves her heartbroken...so what?
Daniella Carrino had a huge crush on Tyson Palmer during college and pleased she never gave into his advances whilst tutoring him. Her attitude towards relationships hasn't changed and still holds the same principles. Only now, she wants to help this football player get back on his feet. She wrongly believes giving herself to him is what he needs and the act will be a catalyst for a new beginning for them both. It is, but definitely not how she expected.
I love an imperfect hero and Tyson fits that description. He's got himself into a situation he can't get out of. Cue, Clinton Barrow, owner of The Austin Mavericks. He has the ambition to win The Superbowl and believes Tyson Palmer can make his dream come true IF he gets clean. Enter, Logan Montgomery, a top sports trainer who specialises in dealing with recovering athletes. Tyson's not convinced he's got what it takes to succeed but decides to embrace his unexpected second chance.
Dani Carr as she's known now is ambitious and eager to win a new position as a top sports journalist. She's had job ups and down's but heading in the right direction. Dani is about to accept a new position...the pinnacle of her career when she's offered another job to work with the Maverick's new signing Marcus LaRue. A dream come true. It also means she'll see Tyson Palmer again.
Of the protagonists, I much preferred Tyson because he changed from a loser to a winner. He lost the cocky attitude and became very humble in his recovery, where he realised what is important in life. I felt his pain when others exploited his new attitude to life. Dani is a tricky young woman and didn't warm to her so much. She talks about personal sacrifices but she's really quite selfish and manipulating. She carries a secret but doesn't want to reveal all the pieces of her puzzle until they fall to her own advantage. She uses a close family member as a pawn to get what she wants. shocking! Tyson's recovery program had a category for things that could trigger a reaction and Dani definitely belonged here: "People, Places and Things"
The writing style, dialogue and narrative are humorous, entertaining and fun. The Total Package is a medium paced book which and I enjoyed in one sitting – a luxury.

The Total Package is about so much more than football. It takes a hard look at the destruction instant fame and imposing expectations can have on someone, especially without the proper support. Quarterback Tyson Palmer was raised to be a sports star, coddled and groomed by his father and coaches, he never really learned personal responsibility. When his classes proved a challenge because of his time on the football field, his college arranged a tutor to see him through, Daniella “Ella” Carrino.
Ella loved football almost as much as she loved Tyson Palmer. The opportunity to help him and befriend him changed her life, although not always in a positive way. Tyson’s easy-going demeanor and genuine friendship held an undercurrent of sexual tension. A steamy kiss and an awkward conversation about relationships put the brakes on any further intimacy — until a fateful night years later. By the time Tyson reenters Ella’s life, he has hit rock bottom. His professional football career imploded thanks to his drinking, painkiller addiction, and disastrous personal life. Ella believes she can save Tyson from himself and offers him her comfort — and her body. Unfortunately Tyson is too far down the rabbit hole to appreciate the rare gem Ella is but that doesn’t stop him from accepting her offer of pleasure. Ella failed to realize that Tyson had to save himself.
Following their one night together, Daniella becomes determined to let nothing stand in the way of fulfilling her dream of becoming a successful sports broadcaster. She reinvents herself, chasing her looks, her hair color, and her name. Dani Carr emerges from the ashes of the starry-eyed Ella’s dreams of a future with Tyson.
My chief complaint about this book is the pacing. Within the first time chapters there is really only one interaction between Tyson and Daniella, their ill-advised one night of passion. By the time Tyson recognizes Dani in present day, the book was almost half over and the emotions behind their reunion and reconciliation felt a bit rushed. The one night stand scenario successfully served to demonstrate just how far Tyson had fallen, taking to bed his virginal friend, someone he had genuinely liked and cared about. I would have felt a stronger connection between Tyson and Dani, and their sense of fated love, if there had been more about their time in college. I would have liked to have seen what they were like together before Tyson fell from grace. He later says he loved her back in those days but his claim wasn’t backed up by real evidence for the reader.
The Total Package does a wonderful job of examining the capacity of a person to move on from their past and forge a future filled with happiness and love. Stephanie Evanovich provides laughter and honest emotion with a truly likable couple worthy of cheering for

The Total Package by Stephanie Evanovich is a sweet romance between a recovering bad boy quarterback and a sexy sports commentator harboring a mighty big secret.
Number one draft pick and star quarterback Tyson Palmer’s spectacular fall from grace was well documented in the media. An alcoholic with a pain pill addiction and a few sex scandals under his belt, Tyson hits rock bottom in a big way but surprisingly, Austin Mavericks owner Clint Barrow offers him the deal of a lifetime: he will pay for Tyson’s rehab as long as he commits to maintaining his sobriety and signs a three year deal with the Mavericks. Grateful for the opportunity while at the same time unsure he can follow through, Tyson accepts his offer and once he makes it through a brutal detox, he is well on his way to staging a successful comeback. Fast forward a few years and the still clean and sober superstar is ready to retire when his personal nemesis on the playing field, Marcus LaRue, makes a deal with Barrow that brings Tyson face to face with someone from his notorious past.
Sports commentator Dani Carr is not exactly Tyson’s biggest fan and she avoids him as much as possible. But when she makes a connection with media shy Marcus and he insists the Mavericks hire her as his personal media spokeswoman, she leaves behind her family to temporarily move to Austin. While she has good reason to dislike the man Tyson once was, Dani continues to hold a grudge for their somewhat complicated history. Although she finally realizes he genuinely regrets his past actions, Dani still tries to stay as far away from Tyson as possible because she has been hiding a huge secret from him.
Publicity shy Marcus is an enigmatic character who is much more perceptive than he lets on. He is quiet, reserved and tries to maintain as low a profile as possible. Even after months of spending time with him, Dani does not know him any better than she did when they first met, but he is surprisingly observant and offers her sound advice about her relationship with Tyson. But will Dani takes his words to heart? Or will she let a future with Tyson slip through her fingers?
A wonderful blend of realistic issues and laugh out loud humor, The Total Package is an engaging romance that old and new fans of Stephanie Evanovich are sure to love. The storyline is fast-paced with underlying themes of redemption and forgiveness that give the plot substance and depth. The characters are appealing and their growth throughout the story is absolutely phenomenal. An all around outstanding read that I positively adored and highly recommend.

So we are back with another Stephanie Evanovich book and I am pleased to say that we see some of the characters from her past books, which I loved! But let me tell you more about this book.
Tyson Palmer has hit rock bottom, not only as a star quarterback but as a person! But after a one night stand with "Ella Bella" a girl from college and leaves her devastated. He is forced into sobriety after being picked up by the Austin Mavericks and a very determined head coach. Now 5 years later he has plans to leave the football field and go into sports reporting…that is until Marcus LaRue manages to talk him into staying just one more season. But what Tyson doesn't know is that one last season will change his life forever.
Daniella Carrino's (Ella Bella) whole life changes with a fateful one night stand with the only man she has ever loved…Tyson. But with new responsibilities, Daniella knew she had to change and so Daniella Carrino morphed into Dani Carr; sports journalist and the only person who didn't kiss Tyson Palmers butt. But it was a big surprise when she gets employed by Marcus LaRue as his very own PR/Journalist…but an even bigger surprise when LaRue signs on with the Mavericks!
Dani is resolved to stay as far away from Tyson as possible, but Tyson doesn't let that happen and slowly their relationship turns into so much more! But Dani is still keeping a big secret from Tyson and she knows that when it comes out it will destroy everything!
I honestly have to say that The Total Package is by far my favorite one of the three books. The author has really gone from strength to strength with these books and I honestly cannot get enough….I'm also hoping a novella comes out about Marcus too *HINT HINT*
The writing is smooth and I love the way that the book is predominantly written from the male perspective. The plot (although not original) is outstanding in it execution and is truly one of the best sports romances I have ever read. I even understood the American football references and seen as I'm British and know nothing about American football, I would say that is a feat in itself! I loved the characters in this book! Tyson, Dani and her family her wonderful characters, but for me Marcus LaRue stole the show! He is truly my MVP for this book.
I give The Total Package a very well deserved 5 stars!

Ok…. honestly? The Evanovich part of Stephanie’s name caught my attention first. (I like Janet Evanovich lol) But Stephanie Evanovich has her own voice and her writing sucked me into her storytelling. I was planning on reading a bit then going to bed-but I looked up on the final page and realized it was 1am!
The Total Package is a story of second chances. Second chances at fulfilling dreams and second chances at romance. Tyson has a promising football career but nearly loses it all with an addiction to painkillers and an abundance of poor choices. Dani adored him but her timing could have been better when she took him up on his flirting. Their one night stand was just before he hit rock bottom.
I was rooting for Tyson and enjoyed seeing him fight for his future and get his life back on track. I admit, I crushed on him. ? The secondary characters who are influential in Tyson finding his way back made me look at Stephanie’s other books and add them to my “read asap” list!
And Dani? I loved that she bounced back from the repercussions of acting on her crush for Tyson. She made a good home and followed her dream of getting into sports broadcasting. And then their paths cross again. I was hoping (like Dani) that Tyson would remember her and swoon at her feet! But life’s rarely that easy. I was kept flipping pages until late into the night rooting for Dani and Tyson to realize what a good team they’d make.
A few of my fav lines.
♥ “You’re a hard sell, Dani Carr. And I would never question your principles. But if you think I don’t see you watching me, you’re dead wrong. Maybe you’d like to discuss my shortcomings over dinner?’
♥ “You know what else I want?” Tyson asked her.
“What?”
” To take you home.”
This story was at times sad, sweet and ultimately a beautiful story of second chances. I.m hooked and I’ll definitely be on the lookout for more Stephanie Evanovich! Until then I’m adding her backlist to my TBR pile. ?

Dani Carr has had a thing for star quarterback Tyson Palmer since she first laid eyes on him, but those feelings were never really returned, instead all she got was the opportunity to tutor him and a permanent spot in the friend zone. Spending everyday with him and knowing he didn't feel the same way was excruciating on her heart, but she never let it show, and just tried to do all she could to help him keep his grades up. After he begins a downward spiral with the help of drugs, Dani thinks she maybe the one person able to save him, but that idea is short lived after he sends her away with a broken heart. After college she made her move to the big leagues, and made a name for herself by calling the games from the sidelines as a reporter, full well knowing that at some point she may run into the quarterback that broke her heart all those years ago. She has long since tried to bury her feelings for him and put on a brave face, but the minute she sets foot on the Mavericks field and his eyes land on her everything she once felt for him all comes rushing back...
Tyson Palmer has always been the center of attention, in college being the star quarterback came with it's privileges, including plenty of booze and willing women. After indulging a little too much Tyson finds himself spiraling out of control and losing his starting spot on the team. People soon cast him aside and his dreams of playing in the NFL are slowly starting to slip away, no team wants a has been with a drug and alcohol problem. That is until the Austin Mavericks owner decides to step in and offer Tyson the chance of a lifetime, he offers Tyson the help he needs to get clean, and then offers him a job. Tyson doesn't have anything else to lose so he accepts the offer, and soon finds himself once again front and center in the spotlight, and playing the game he loves. With everything in his life moving in the right direction, he begins to look forward to his future, and the idea of eventually finding himself a wife, and having a family of his own. Which starts to bring back memories of beautiful girl he met in college whose always had a special place in his heart, he'd give anything to see her smiling face again...
This is beautifully written story captured my attention almost immediately and had me flying right through the pages in search of what I hoped to be a well deserved happily ever after for two well crafted characters who captured my heart right from the start. Ms. Evanovich has totally won me over with this story and found herself a well earned spot on my favorite authors list. This story had all the makings of a perfect romance story, it was packed with heart, emotion, and lots of toe curling romance... and a handsome football star that is sure to score a special place in your heart!!
Highly recommend you give this one a try, it is sure to warm your heart, and satisfy all of your reading cravings...and then some!!

ARC PROVIDED FOR MY HONEST REVIEW
What I love most about Ms. Evanovich's writing is that she is not always gentle, so to speak, with her characters. Plainly evident in her prior books, and especially so here.
She writes flawed, realistic characters that I sometimes hate to love, and or maybe love to hate.
Because I read my ARC as an e-book it saved my wall (and my having to buy a new Kindle).
I'll explain.
More than once, I wanted to throw something. Honestly, if this had been a print book....Not because I didn't enjoy the book. I did. Immensely so. Especially Tyson. Perhaps the connection and reason why I LOVED him so much was because we as readers spend a good part, at the start of the book, experiencing his pain(boy is it ugly) and then his redemption (what a great journey).
But Dani....
Sigh.
What a two-faced unlikable(horrible horrible) character(yes, I wanted to use other adjectives). No matter how much I tried to reason away(through the explanations and other background) who she was and why, I just could not warm up to her. Her turn-around (so to speak) was just too little to late for me.
I also really enjoyed the fact other characters from her prior books pop up. Big Girls Panties remains one of my favorite books(a realistic ugly/beautiful honest book- seriously, Big Girl Panties...BUY IT).
I'll keep reading(and hopefully keep avoiding any damaged property) Ms. Evanovich's books. I highly recommend her if you are looking to add something a little different in your contemporary reading. It's hard to put a label on what exactly I'd call her books. Not everything is sunshine and cake but that's what makes them so freaking good. Life is ugly, and I don't always want the "perfect" in my romance and because of that hard-core formula romance readers might have a hard time (notice I said might) with The Total Package. However, if you are looking for a redemptive second chance(in more than one way) novel with a twist of love, The Total Package is well...the total package.

“I’m a weed-smoking, pill-popping alcoholic. No crack or smack. I had to draw the line somewhere.”
“Sometimes I don’t know what was harder, straightening out my head or my heart.”
“One look at her in this outfit and the most memorable gift her father got this Christmas would’ve been a stroke. She pulled at the tags under her arm and caught sight of the designer – Tart Collections. Never was a garment so aptly named.”
“Her dreams and reality had finally merged, and she was still reeling (although maybe that was thanks to her first, well several, orgasms that had nothing to do with batteries). Now Dani fully understood what all the fuss was about.”
“Sweetheart. I would sit with Satan and present a united front if it helped you. That’s just what mothers do.”
“For way too long now, I’ve kept my distance from people. Not because I didn’t think they were worthy, but because I didn’t think I was.”
My Review:
I wasn’t sure what to expect but I enjoyed this endearing story of second chances and redemption. The writing was emotive, insightful, and entertaining and the plot was generally well paced although the characters did go back and forth in their timelines as they recalled their memories and histories. Toss in a bit of intrigue, clever humor, and some steamy sensual scenes and you have an interesting read on your hands. This was my first Stephanie Evanovich read but it certainly will not be my last.

Tyson Palmer was a college football star with a million dollar arm. Well, more exactly, he WAS a football star before he became addicted to alcohol and pain killers and suspended from his team. While he was down and out, he met Dani Carr (Ella) who had been his tutor in college. They reconnect on a more passionate level. Then, he dumps her. Fast forward four years, and he is once again on top of the world having beaten his addiction. Dani is also an up and coming sports reporter. She recognizes him instantly. He doesn’t remember her; at least not initially. The last thing she wants is to have her heart broken again so she’s determined to stay clear.
This started off revealing the addiction stage of Tyson and the reconnect with Ella and their one-night stand. I felt the pacing was off at times giving much detail to small things but then a big jump to the ‘fast forward four years’ mark. This is Stephanie Evanovich’s third book and is a sweet and captivating sports romance relating to second chances. Everyone deserves a second chance, right? Both Tyson and Dani were likable characters as they evolved into young adults. Even the secondary characters were well-defined. I loved that Dani had a secret of her own; the author revealed it at just the right moment. The writing point of view was omniscient third person, which is not my favorite style as it can tend to be more confusing. Rating: 3.5 out of 5.

I loved that Dani had a secret of her own; the author revealed it at just the right moment. The writing point of view was omniscient third person, which is not my favorite style as it can tend to be more confusing. Rating: 3.5 out of 5.

Stephanie Evanovich returns following The Sweet Spot and Big Girl Panties, with THE TOTAL PACKAGE, another witty, fun, and sexy chick-lit of second chances.
Tyson Palmer is all about women, he has the sex appeal, the looks, and the charm. A famous quarterback football hero---with a substance abuse problem. At his lowest, he has a mentor who has helped turn his life around and he is now focused on his game.
During this time, he meets this sexy reporter, but she does not give him the time of day. Little does he know she has changed her looks, and her name and they once had a past. She has lived her entire life for this day in order to get this man’s attention. Now, he does not seem to notice, or does he?
Dani Carr is a sports reporter and she knows the game and the stats. They have a past, once his tutor, and years later a one-night stand. She is beautiful, sexy, and smart. However, years ago not so much.
What will happen when he figures out she is from his past?
If you have read any of Stephanie Evanovich’s prior books, you can expect a lot of wit, sexy banter, an underdog, a hunk, a few surprises, some tough life lessons—and if you are lucky – a second chance.
Fans will enjoy some references to past characters, as well. I listened to the audiobook and Katie Schorr delivered an engaging performance. A light contemporary, charming fun-filled romance-- Evanovich knows how to spin a sassy tale, with some hilarious one-liners.

Oh, how the mighty have fallen! Tyson Palmer, once a star quarterback, has hit rock bottom. Addicted to pain killers and alcohol it seems he is no longer the darling of the football world or anyone else for that matter. Having gone back to his alma mater he’s all alone, drowning his sorrows at the Bunker, when he’s approached by a vaguely familiar woman. Daniella Carrino, Tyson’s one time English tutor, has been in love with him from the moment she laid eyes on him. She’s a virgin, and had always resisted his advances, but not this time.
I’ve been a long time fan of Stephanie Evanovich. This book, The Total Package, is basically a romance story. It doesn’t have the slap stickiness or the humor of the Stephanie Plum series. No wisecracking Grandma or hilarious sidekick here. What it does have is a flawed hero and a persevering heroine combined with hot bodies and football. A fun read for those times when you want something a bit less serious and perhaps a little more stimulating.

As a rabid reader and sports fan, I devoured this book in one sitting! This book was spectacular and I loved every minute of it. Tyson and Dani have a shared past but Tyson is unaware of it after he gets himself clean. Dani is thrown in his path again and is determined to stay away from him. She has a major secret she is keeping from him and she is set on protecting that secret at all costs. However, Tyson shows that he is a different person now. Dani's secret threatens to harm their new found friendship. I loved Dani's fiesty attitude and the humbleness that Tyson discovers. This was a very fast read for me and I think readers will appreciate the growth from both of these characters! There were many times I laughed out loud (like I always do in Stephanie's books) and I loved every minute of it!
PS If you have read any of Stephanie's previous books then you will be happy to see some very familiar faces!

I really enjoyed this second chance at love story. There were so many secrets and so much deception, that you knew at some point the s***t was going to hit the fan at some point. I just couldn't put the book down until all the truths were revealed.
I didn't get a very good impression of Tyson at the beginning. His life was spinning out of control and he's hitting rock bottom. Lucky for him, he has someone who believes in him and gives him all the tools he needs to pick himself back up. He's not the typical arrogant football player, he truly appreciates what has been offered and tries everything he can to show his appreciation.
Tyson isn't the only one that remakes themselves in this book. Dani is not who she was in college. Tyson didn't even recognize her after they had spent so much time together.
Like many other Janet Evanovich books I have read, I truly enjoyed this story.

The Total Package by Stephanie Evanovich is your typical contemporary romance.
Ella-Bella has been in love with Tyson since she was a tutor for him. Once he became a pro-football player they lost track of each other. She later finds out he is not doing well and she tracks him down. One thing leads to another and their time is cut short.
Many years later "Dani" is offered a dream job not realizing right away that by taking this job she will be thrown together with Tyson once again.
I think the story was well written and it kept my interest throughout the story until the end. I do think the ending went a little to fast. You know what's going to happen as the story goes along so if you won't be surprised by the ending.
I have read all three of Stephanie Evanovich's books in hardcover but think for her next book I will wait to read it in paperback.

What a delightful, witty read Total Package was. This was little different from most books I read I usually stay in genre of Romance, yes this book had some Romance but it was mainly more about second chances. Second chance at life, second chance in a profession & second chance at love. It was delightful to watch how Tyson went from a washout drug addicted alcoholic disgrace quarterback to a star clean quarterback after the owner of the Austin Mavericks "forces" to clean his act up. I enjoyed reading everything he went thru to get clean & once clean what really matter in life. And once he finally realized who Dani truly would she give him a second chance to amend their past. This was my very first read by Stephanie Evanovich & hopefully not my last. Thank you to Tasty Book Tours for giving me the opportunity to read & review The Total Package.

I really enjoyed The Total Package and will be checking out Stephanie Evanovich's other books. I am a fan of sports romances, and I liked how the story flowed. Her characters were multidimensional and interesting, I felt as if Dani was someone I could have met and been friends with. There was enough realism that made her seem touchable.
The romance between Dani and Tyson was a slow-burn that worked perfectly for the story. There was no rushing into bed as neither of them were ready to just jump into a relationship.
The only thing that I found lacking in the story was that other than with Marcus, there was no teammate camaraderie between Tyson and the other Maverick players, which I found kind of odd. I understand not wanting to clutter the story up with too many characters, but I would have liked to have seen how he was with his teammates.

Maybe it's because my hubby played college football and coaches high school football that this book caught my attention right away. It held my attention- it just was misplaced during a move that it took longer to read than expected.
This was an advanced readers' copy so there were misspelled words. But it's a cute little book about a tutor that is hired to coach a quarterback that would rather party than study. Of course he's a hunk, on top of being a party boy and soon washes out.
Author Stephanie Evanovich does a swell job in telling this on again off love story of a young lady that wants to break into sports commentary but also along with that has a secret she needs to keep.
I personally see this book as a chic lit and recommend it as such .

Fans of Susan Elizabeth Phillips will simply adore THE TOTAL PACKAGE!
Not only do you get a hero who starts out at the bottom of the barrel, and a heroine who goes from sweet tutor to a sassy "gonna take him down" power house, but you also get a wonderful and funny story about personal growth, growing up and making changes and maybe finding the love of your life in the process.
I was swept away, sucked in, and left with a huge smile on my face! What more can you ask for? If you are a fan of SEP's Chicago Stars Series, you will absolutely love THE TOTAL PACKAGE!

After graduating from college Dani Carr changed her appearance, her name, but never her goal of rising in the ranks of professional football broadcasting. What she could not change was her feelings for football player Tyson Palmer the man she loved from the first time she saw him in college. She tutored him, worshiped him, and never gave up on him while all he could do was flush his career down the toilet. Tyson was the holy grail of football until too much of the good life drew him down and tried to take away the gifts he had been given. But a second chance saves Tyson from himself and his addiction but will that be what he gives Dani?
When Dani gets the call to be the only announcer with access to the Austin Mavericks she may not have jumped at the chance but she went with the financial gain that came with it. Unfortunately Tyson is the quarterback for the team and it was never her intention to see him again or reveal the secret she has been keeping from him for five years. Avoid him she did but Tyson wanted to know why and it was not the first time they met again, or even the second that shook Tyson awake with memories it was the tears Dani shed that had Tyson understand who the woman was and what she had meant to him. He tried to deny it as it kept his personal life and career in tact knowing what he had to lose by reconnecting with his past but this woman was something special in his past and he needed to make amends for the wrong he did by her. While Tyson was about forgive and move on Dani seemed to not feel the same way and the anger in her prompted Tyson with more questions than answers.
Never one to give one Tyson kept at Dani until he wore her down and kept her enticed with subtle whispers and gentle kisses on the cheek. What would seem friendly to anyone else was creating a fire between then that only a passionate interlude could calm, or would that be enough? While Dani is trying to keep one player under control Tyson is causing all kinds of havoc with her emotions and the dilemma of how to tell him the secret she is keeping from him at just the right time. Sometimes the truth sets you free and other times it hurts so bad that there is no recovery program you can attend.

The gridiron takes a huge toll on even the strongest of men, and Tyson is not immune. I find that his character is made even more human because of his failures and the way he takes responsibility. Dani is a little more capricious in her demeanor, although you cannot fault the way she puts her heart right out there. The harder Dani and Tyson try to keep their distance the closer they get, and it is so much fun to watch them squirm!

Tyson a promising pro quarterback is wasting his career away with addiction problems. One person believed he could turn it round and it was Ella Bella but one crazy night he threw that away. Now another person has his eyes set on Tyson but with strict rules set in place if he succeeds he will be playing for the Super Bowl bound Mavericks. Can he do it? Will a reporter who seems to hate his guts set him back or foes Dani Carr have a secret past that he doesn't know? I would have liked to see more story involvement with the team members but this is a very quick and fun sport romance read

THE TOTAL PACKAGE by Stephanie Evanovich is a lighthearted book about football and romance, and the things that can go wrong when two people aren't honest with themselves and each other.
Tyson Palmer is a quarterback with the Austin Mavericks, enjoying a second chance at a quality football career. Once on a steady path to ruin and despair, he turns his life around through hard work, physical and mental endurance, and a little bit of blackmail from one of the Mavericks' owners. The meat of the story begins when he is on his last of four years with the Austin team. Ready to retire without having led his team to the Super Bowl, he's asked to stay on just one more year to work with potential new signee, receiver Marcus LaRue. Currently a Boston Blitz player, LaRue will only go to the Mavericks if Tyson is the quarterback, and he'll only speak to the press through Dani Carr, who has a past with Tyson.
Dani Carr is a woman sportscaster struggling to advance in the male-dominant world of sports news. Marcus doesn't play nice with the media, but he's willing to have Dani as his personal sportscaster. She is forced to accept or watch her career tank. She doesn't really want the specialty job but realizes it's one step higher on her master plan of becoming a well-respected woman sportscaster. And how bad can a football season in Boston be? But to her dismay, Marcus signs with the Austin Mavericks, putting her in proximity to Tyson Palmer every day. And every day she sees him will be torture.
This story begins with a lot of tell and not enough show, not a style of storytelling that I prefer. However, as the book progresses, it becomes fluid and interesting with more dialogue. While most of the characters are complex and multidimensional, I feel it's Dani who carries the story. She's tough and sensitive, self-deprecating and shy, and scared but bold. She has the most to lose in her fight to become a respected sportscaster. But she continues to do what's necessary to attain her goal. And Tyson Palmer presents one huge obstacle.
Overall, I enjoyed the interaction of the characters, their struggles, and how they worked out their differences. The book is humorous, with a few teary moments, and is perfect for fans of Susan Elizabeth Phillips and Rachel Gibson. Be sure to put THE TOTAL PACKAGE on your vacation reads list. It's the perfect lighthearted story for a nice day at the beach or a relaxing afternoon at home.

A different kind of sports romance, with unique plot line, intriguing characters, realities of the other side of the glamourous life of professional sports.
What makes this story's romance different than most, is that after the first chapter, the hero and heroine, don't meet again for several years, and until a third of the story has gone by.
Because Tyson's drug and alcohol abuse, he has to go into an intensive, secluded rehab, to get his head cleared, sober up, and then get back into a shape, to be able to return to the limelight.
The author has a detail oriented style of writing, but those details are often in the physical or material matters, not so much in the emotions and feelings. So even though there are details of Tyson's stay in the rehab, and of the training to get back on the field, the story doesn't dwell on the drama and angst of the situation Tyson is in. It rather shows how he finds an inner peace, how he is determined, to succeed once again, to find a way to have a life and a future.
During the years gone by, Dani has also gone through a transformation, but more on the physical side, superficial looks, than growing up as a person. Her college girl crush, has turned into nearly a career obsession towards Tyson, as she is battling the attraction she has for him, against the anger she would love to hold on to. And then, Dani ends up making choices in her career and personal life, that she later question.
The secrets are kept surprisingly long, and seems to be accumulating. The choices that Dani keeps making left me perplexed several times, since it was easy to forget how young, she still was, despite everything that has occurred during the story.
Dani and Tyson have a connection, the attraction that keeps pulling them towards each other. Events keeps proving them, that they might not be perfect for each other, but that pull is there, and stronger each time. If only they could be honest with each other, then all the misunderstandings would be cleared as well.
The plot is alluring, I read this at once, after starting it. Dani comes across as little immature, but the characters are fascinating and engaging. Serious issues, like substance abuse, and recovery, are handled well. I liked the story. I did want to get more emotionally involved with the characters and events. I wish the story would have revealed a little more on that front with Tyson and Dani, dug a little deeper.
A sports hero who battles his demons, and get's a second chance, not only on the ball field, but in life, love and future as well.

This story is a second-chance, comeback story, complete with humour and romance with a football backdrop.
The plot moves nicely, the characters are likeable, and the story is heartwarming, fun, and interesting.

This is such an entertaining book. The intellectual virgin college girl falls for the loser star football player. He pulls up his drunk pants and walks away . Years later fate brings them together again . I don't want to ruin the story line for future readers but I will say it's well worth reading. Good job Stephanie.

Stephanie Evanovich usually writes novels that I find easy to read. This one seemed to move a bit slowly for quite some time. I'm accustomed to suspending disbelief when I read novels, but sometimes it hinders my enjoyment. This was one of those times. It's not the worst book I've ever read, but it also is not the best. I expect good things from Ms. Evanovich, but think that she missed the mark with this book.

This is about a recuperating football star and a lady sports reporter who had a past history together. I think that's all you need to know about the plot before reading this. Anyway, this is a very well written novel. It's not lovey dovey chick lit. It's a book about well developed characters who will keep you reading. You don't have to be a football fan to enjoy this. It's just a solidly written novel and I do recommend it highly.

I really enjoyed reading Stephanie Evanovich's The Total Package. Tyson Palmer was at the top, a college football superstar with a promising future. An addiction led to his spiraling decline. He is offer a deal to clean up his act and is given another chance at redemption. Four years later, Tyson is playing for the Austin Mavericks. Dani Carr, a sports commentator is not impressed with Tyson's recovery. Tyson and Dani had an amorous night (during college) that ended up with Tyson leaving. Tyson has no recognition of Dani from that encounter. Dani has a secret from that night. Tyson and Dani's chemistry was written greatly. We also see characters from Stephanie Evanovich first book. Dani keeps Tyson at arms length away, but the chemistry is still there from the first night. The book was a great combination of romance and humor. You want to keep on reading and see if they both reconnect.

I approach novels as if the characters are people in the real world and want to see thoughtful decisions. I dislike the "I had your baby and never told you" plot lines because it is wrong on so many levels, especially the child's. I do not understand the glowing reviews. On the whole, this book was not worth the time.

I really loved this book, the characters were complex and made real growth during the story.I received an advance copy, but was delayed from reading it due to family illness out of town.
I related to Dani and her innocence, Tyson and his response to hitting bottom and Marcus changing his life for love. I found myself hoping that each would find their real dream, happiness and acceptance. This is my first Stephanie Evanovich book, but it certainly will not be the last. She has a very different "voice" than the "other" Evanovich, and I'm so glad, I can love them both, and know by what I'm reading which one wrote it. Everyone could find something and someone to love in this book.

Ms. Evanovich usually writes books that make me laugh. That's why I read this one. This time she wrote a standard romance novel. It's predictable. It may be interesting to readers of romance novels, especially if they're also interested in football. In the end, a few surprises, but, frankly, I couldn't wait for it to be over.

Interesting characters, including ones from previous books by the author. Logan and Holly from Big Girl Panties are important characters in the story line. Full of wit, charm, snark, a few steamy scenes, surprises, redemption and a very happy ending. Great narrating performance by Katie Schorr.
