The Coconut Ketogenic Diet” is an essential guide for anyone looking to lose weight and gain healthier lifestyle choices. Dr. Bruce Fife’s revolutionary weight loss program uses natural, wholesome foods to help readers successfully end their battles with obesity, diabetes, heart problems, circulatory problems and thyroid issues. Dr. Fife, a long time colleague and associate of mine, endorsed my new book, Your Aging Body Can Talk: Using Muscle -Testing to Learn What Your Body Knows and Needs After 50. I personally own several of his books and regularly recommend them to my patients. I discuss Dr. Fife on pages 96 and 121 of my new book, “Your Aging Body Can Talk.” I recommend “The Coconut Ketogenic Diet” in the Learn More section of “Chapter 5: Eat What You Are Made Of…” in my new book, “Your Aging Body Can Talk.”

This book is extremely helpful if you are trying to lose weight and are wondering why your low-carb diet isn't working. I had successfully lost weight on Atkins in the past but in recent years, it was no longer working for me. Dr. Fife explains in easy to understand terms, how you can burn fat by eating fat. Carbs are still kept very low, but more fat is added to the diet and that adds immense satiety. I have been on it one week and dropped 8 pounds. I am never hungry; whereas I was ALWAYS hungry, even on Atkins. I am so glad to find this book so I can continue my weight-loss journey!

Very little about the diet itself. Most of the book is telling u why to do the diet. Then he spends time telling u why it mite not be working for you. Seriously? It needs to work or it doesn't. Make it work by detailing the diet itself more in-depth.
More meal plans are necessary to make this worth the price. As its stands, it's a $3 pamphlet in disguise.
Don't get me wrong, keto diets are great and coconut is a superfood but this book doesn't much convince me of that in any but a mass market sort of vein.

If one has followed the writings of Bruce Fife, one recognizes that he has long been a proponent of the Tropical Oils (Coconut, Palm, Palm Kernel). A very serious proponent!

That is due to Tropical Oils being VERY high in SATURATED FATS (which is a very good thing). In fact, they are higher in SATURATED fats than most - if not all - animal / mammal fats.

Where he breaks down is in his absolute devotion to Tropical Oils (especially Coconut Oil) as those oils somehow being a much better type of Saturated Fat (than say lard or tallow or blubber, etcetera).

All forms of saturated fat are made up of various fatty acids in varying percentages. A big deal is often made in the fact that Coconut Oil has a large amount of Lauric Acid (though I believe Palm Oil has even more). Yet mother's breast milk has no where near that high degree of Lauric Acid... in fact it is much nearer in quantity to that of lard or butter.

So, Fife gets principles and concepts right (usually) as far as relates to Keto and LCHF dietary lifestyles, but off base with it needing to be Coconut (or other Tropical) Oils for really great results.

Why this book?

Well, in following Fife's books on Tropical Oils, they start out as "Cure Alls". Then when topics become oriented towards Detox (a very ridiculous pseudoscience), then out comes a book on Coconut Oil detox. When "Oil Pulling Therapy" (another very silly pseudoscience), then he trots out a book on Coconut Oil oil pulling therapy.

And now that LCHF / Keto dietary lifestyle is becoming more and more strongly entrenched.... out comes the Coconut Oil Keto book.

(In his earlier writing career Fife wrote some children's books - and books on making a living writing books)

At least (if one could get a VG condition used book), a number of the recipes can be used - and for taste purposes, one might want to replace Coconut Oil with lard or tallow or bacon fat, etcetera.

This book has lots of science literature quotes and considerable science is included. Some of the science is correct. This true believer's guide to the coconut ketogenic diet can not be taken as completely accurate. It has some useful tidbits and remarks.

Book title is confusing.

I am already familiar with Dr. Fife writings as I have several of his other books (2 editions of The Coconut Oil Miracle, Cooking with Coconut Flour, The Oil Pulling Therapy, and a couple more). I liked these books, so was looking forward to this new one of his.

To my chagrin, out of the 42 recipes in the book, 15 of them contain some form of dairy, and some of the recipes are entirely based on a dairy product (cottage cheese). I am dairy-free (for health reasons) and didn't expect ANY dairy product use in a book titled The COCONUT Ketogenic Diet. Imagine my disappointment.
