This is my opinion best fantasy book and series there is! It have everything a good fantasy book needs. Magic, awesome battles, love stories and deep questions for things to come. I've read this book 6 times.

My favourite of the three books in this particular trilogy... Wonderfully complex characters and a rich and real world.

I read it before approx 20 years ago and my opinion has remained the same. I thoroughly enjoyed this book!

Epic, original fantasy by a master storyteller. Magician takes you on a whirlwind ride into a vast, rich and colourful fantasy world with interesting characters and exciting plots. A fantastic first book for those wanting to get into the genre, or a pleasant diversionary change from a lot of the mediocre fantasy novels out there.
A Kingdom Besieged: Book One of the Chaoswar Saga :: Silverthorn (Riftwar Cycle: The Riftwar Saga) :: A Crown Imperiled: Book Two of the Chaoswar Saga :: A Darkness at Sethanon (The Riftwar Saga, Vol. 4) :: Magician's End: Book Three of the Chaoswar Saga

A brilliant and relevant tale told over 5 books. This is without doubt the most fulfilling and absorbing read for someone such as myself.
The narrative inspires a curiosity for wisdom and parallel realities which we all can draw from to further our own purpose and example
here in the world today.

Thanks Raymond. Well put.

I have loved this book since its first publication years ago. Since I have looked for it forever, it made me inordinately happy to finally find it republished!
Pug... the young orphan who shows signs of magical powers but is slow to learn to use them. Tomas... the cook's son who wants only to become a great soldier. Martin the woodsman... quiet ..but cheerfully helps and teaches these boys in what spare moments he has.. has a secret. Lyam, Arutha and Carline... Lord Borric's children and in direct line for the throne of the Kingdom... As the war with the otherworlders begin, the distances that separate and the fears for each other effect all of them.

I was hesitant to try any new fantasy series when I was stuck with nothing new to read and no suggestions. I went searching for recommendations online. Came across this series and could not put it down. Highly recommend!

Great start to an amazing series. Feist gets the ball rolling very strongly in the Riftwar Saga with Magician. He gets you hooked quickly and doesn't waste time to tell you a thrilling story. This fast paced style of writing is so refreshing when you don't have the time to polish off an 800 page book. Check out this book and series if you haven't yet, definitely a must read if you like sci-fi/fantasy.

Undoubtedly Fiests' greatest work. Magician is seminal reading for a collection of novel series that span more than three decades.
Following the development a young orphan boy named Pug and his childhood friend Thomas, Magician is an enthralling journey through a terrible and epic war between worlds.
I cannot recommended this book enough.
