I happened upon this novel by chance. I was merely browsing the books available to request for an advanced copy and saw that the second one in this series was up for grabs. After reading a quick summary I was like, well this sounds interesting and right up my ally. So I bought it for 87c …and for 87c it was rather great. Again 87c..bargain find. Just saying.

Welcome to King Hall, a place where Mystics learn their craft before transitioning into adulthood at the age of twenty-two. This fantasy world is run by four rulers, one from each faction of the Mystic world. After a tragic event our main character Lily finds herself the next shifter prodigy, whom will one day be in charged of all the shifters in the world…it is sort of a big deal. Mystics are known to the real world, or the “Coms”, and a rebellion has begun to prevent the integration of Mystics into the human world. Whilst death is at their door, Lily along with the other prodigies begin training for the Awakening and to become the next Kings and Queens of the Mystics. A romance story at its core thrown in with an interesting world with many layers, Dawn has created a riveting introduction to a brand new fantasy new adult series that is to lust over.

To me, personally…obviously, the story read more like a TV show rather than a movie. I believe this distinction is important. Why I think this is because at times there could be weeks or even months that had passed between each few chapters, and the events within these chapters at times discussed another event or had a revelation about a character that it just seemed like you were checking in each week for the next episode. This is by no means a bad thing, let me assure you. But it did meant that certain feelings, such as grief, wasn’t long lasted and the characters weren’t always in this state of depression because months had passed. Does that even make sense? ahh….trying to explain myself has always been a problem. It does also mean at times that it was a bit slow with not much really happening, besides good old character and relationship development.

I found this world to be incredibly interesting, even within the intricacies and customs of each Mystic faction. Dawn had really thought out the unique elements of each Mystic and the characters truly lifted off the page. At times the book did feel more YA then new adult, just because there was lots of mention of adult themes without actually seeing it..your all going to think i’m a pervert. I’m not. Others have mentioned this too..if that makes it an better LOL.

There were a few things that I found a bit confusing, and I still don’t feel that I truly grasped the concept of them. Especially in regards to the Awakening. I believe it is a time that the rulers actually awaken the power inside their factions, which is an incredibly painful process. Honestly I felt like it just wasn’t truly explained, and that since the story was building up to whether Lily was going to actually be able to perform the Awakening with her being a hybrid, it just didn’t seem like a big deal because I didn’t understand what it truly meant. I still don’t…

As a main character at times Lily could be incredibly frustrating, and there were certain elements to her history that were revealed that didn’t make sense given her current character. All in all though the supporting characters kept me reading, because again each character was for the most part well developed and clearly thought out. The friendship between the four prodigies was so great to read about. You don’t really get to see such solid friendships that are well written and stand out.

I am excited to read the next one..because I did end up receiving it for review. YAY! And I also like this world…a lot. Maybe a bit too much. And I also am maybe, sort of, most likely, hoping that two characters get together…they better.

Ms Dawn shows her individuality and imagination in this novel by not following the rules of previous authors. Everything about this storyline and its characters is new and refreshing. I can't wait for volume #2.

This book grabs your attention from the get go. Fantasy books have always been my forte but i love how King Cave not only has fantasy but they also incorporate normal problems such as rape, politics, grief and friendship. The supernatural is the cherry on top. Scarlett Dawn writes the book in a way that if the character thinks something its written down without hesitation, showing true feeling that people can relate too, even when they would never admit it. Its fun, its serious, its heart clenching cry my eyes out devastating when it was over because you know nothing can ever come close. Scarlett Dawn, you have ruined me. ~Kaitlyn Hedges

I could barely put it down! The synopsis made the book seem kind of lame but WOW was I wrong! This is addictive and I love it! Dawn creates a world in your mind from page one but keeps enough information from you to keep you so hungry for more that you become a ravenous wolf.

There are a lot of self published works offered through the store with great reviews. It often frustrates me because many of those self published works, in my humble opinion, don't deserve the high rating they get and are not worth the time to read.

King Hall is worth the time to read.

I finished this book and immediately pre-ordered King Cave, book two in this series coming out in 2014.

Scarlett Dawn has written a lean story. From the start the reader is dropped firmly into the world the author creates and there are no extraneous fillers or unnecessary bits that makes the story drag on.

I loved that.

Lily Ruckler, the main character, suffers a tragedy at the start of the story and gets pushed into a leadership role she never wanted because of that tragedy. And of course, this unexpected move into the spotlight is dangerous for Lily because she has a secret that could threaten her life.

King Hall is a bit Harry Potter-esque in that there are schools for Mysticals or Mys, the people with magic, and there are four factions at the schools. The people without magic are called Commoners or Coms but that's where the similarities end. There are factions of Coms that are hunting Mys and that is seemingly the danger that Lily and her friends face. King Hall also has more mature themes and is definitely more appropriate for the YA or adult reader.

The thing I loved best about this story is the friendships that build between Lily and the other Prodigies. As the Prodigies get to know one another, we find out about Lily's past as well as learn a little more about some of the other characters and what they've been through as well. There also seems to be a budding relationship between Lily and Ezra, a relationship that is taboo because they are from different factions, which I hope will continue and develop more in the next book.

All in all, I say pick up King Hall, it's worth reading!

I honestly loved this book from beginning to end. I thought all the characters were brilliant but especially loved Lily, Ezra, Jack and Pearl. I cried, LOL'd, was heartbroken and repaired; all by these four. Can't wait to see where Scarlett takes us in their journey.

Having a hard time putting the book down. So intrigued by the 4 prodigies and their close relationship. I have cried, laughed and held my breath while reading as fast as I could through this book. Really like this author's writing styles.

This book was amazing! At some points it feels as though the author didn't explain enough back story wise though, as if she jumped right in and never let you completely catch up. Worth way more than a buck and change. I'd easily pay 5-10 for this

It has a bit of everything, magic, action, sex, humor, tragedy, genuine emotion, suspense, a good story line, and it is very well written. It is different than other books and keeps you interested throughout. Can't wait to read more!

I really enjoyed reading King Hall. It had everything that I look for in a book. A well-paced plot, interesting world and characters. I am invested in the characters and am looking forward to the rest of the series.

SWEET MERCY! I am still recovering from the sheer awesomeness of this book. I mean, wow! I was rendered speechless by this seemingly innocent book about paranormal romance. I'm still shell-shocked by coming back to the reality of my life, this book sucked me in too deep. I find it hard to believe im not in King Hall right now running from..... I should probably stop there before I say something I shouldn't. Whew! Where to begin.

When I first saw King Hall on the store it looked like just another series about paranormal romance with tacky friends and lots of sex talk. This made me reluctant to buy it, since i'm not much the romance type, but I had nothing else to read at the moment and a friend- whose judgement I normally trust when it comes to books- had recommended it, so, I bought it. When I started reading it the book was ok, didn't seem like it would be too kinky or inappropriate, which I considered a good thing. The story really didn't seem to have too much action at first and I honestly though the author would end up making an epic-fail of a story- boy was I wrong. After a few pages I was sucked in and hooked, big time. This is one of those stories that lets you have your cake and eat it too! Non stop action kept my eyes glued to the pages. Normally when a book gets really good because something major is happening I look down at the percentage bar on my Kindle and find that I'm 80 or 90% through with the story, since this major action was the climax of the story, and I find myself a bit sad that the story is coming to an end. Not the case with King Hall. Major events kept taking place throughout the story and when I fearfully looked down at the percentage bar on my kindle I saw that I still had a hefty portion of the book to go and found myself smiling with anticipation at the action to come. King Hall will simply not allow you to get bored. So many things happen that you find yourself completely immersed in the story and unable to think about anything else when you are away from it.

Scarlett Dawn also does an beautiful job with the characters. She creates some of the most realistic character I have met in a WHILE, and I read A LOT of YA fantasy. Her characters have clearly distinctive personalities and after a while you feel like you know them and can imagine how they would react to certain situations. Her characters are funny, sassy, sarcastic and clever. The character's diverse personalities really stand out throughout the story as they get into all sorts of hilarious messes they must get out of (this often results in them getting into even stickier situations). As you read you will find yourself laughing out loud (causing strangers to stare at you), smiling and even holding your breath on a few occasions. This is a roller coaster ride of a book that will have you gripping the edges of your seat and turning page after page (warning: may cause sleep depravation).

The Story: Lily Ruckler is illegal- literally. She is a mys hybrid, since her parents were of two different races of mysticals. Yet, she is the mate of soon-to-be-king of the Shifters. Hybrids are not supposed to be allowed to live, but Lily is fine as long as no one ever finds out. Everything seems ok until Lily's mate is killed by humans, meaning- she is now the -soon-to-be-queen of the shifters and a noticeable figure of the mystical community. Oh my! Lily, along with the soon-to-be-rulers of the other 3 mystical races, is being trained by the current rulers to take her place as queen of the shifters and help awaken other mysticals' powers. Lily is unsure if she will be able to do this due to her hybrid nature, and if she can't, she will surely be killed. To top this off, human extremist groups, like the one that killed Lily's mate, are out for blood- mystical blood. Lily and her friends must cope with prodigy training, humans out-to-to-get-them and mystical high school and all its joys (cough, sex, cough). Additionally, Lily and her friends find themselves unable to keep away from and uncomfortable and awkward, yet hilarious, circumstances that will have you laughing out loud most of the time.

Now, in all fairness, this book is not perfect. It does have some flaws, but I found them minor and they do not disturb the story. It might not be the most creative and new concept, but the way the author takes this seemingly cliché storyline and transforms it into King Hall is outstanding. This is definitely a book worth reading. Personally, I'm only waiting to get some much-needed sleep before I start the second one.

This is seriously one of my new favorite authors along side Laurell K. Hamilton and Janet Evanovich. I saw all the good reviews of this book and had to buy it to try it out. I literally did not stop reading till the end. Characters and world or so defined it makes you feel like your there. I cannot wait for the next Scarlett Dawn book, im so excited to have a new series (hopefully) to get immersed in.
Thank you for writing such a fun story that makes you feel along with the characters.

Wow!!! From page one I was hooked into this story because the humor was fantastic right from the start. I literally had to force myself to put it down the first night I started reading because I got so caught up that I didn't realize it was almost 4 AM! It clawed it's way into my heart even further as the character development was spun effortlessly through the story...the events they have to go through shaping the characters and their relationships. With any book, I know it will have naysayers, but I have to say, "SHUT IT!" Because this was a thoroughly enjoyable read and definitely on my favorites list for the year!

I can't wait to read more about the Prodigies! BRING IT ON, SCARLETT DAWN!

I read this because some review on Dragon Marked by Jaymin Eve said that they're the same book. And... yes. Essentially. King Hall is better written, but they have basically the same plot: hybrid girl who should be put to death by law falls in love with strong alpha male, tragedy and shenanigans ensue. I had fun with both books, but I liked this one better.

That said. Lily, the protagonist, is more than a little annoying. She isn’t bad in this book, but book 2 (review coming!) is where she really shines—and not in a good way. She’s not overpowered or anything like that (which I personally wouldn’t have minded—these “Mary Sue” stories are all fantasy, who cares), but she can get very grating.

Great story, I enjoyed it immensely. I enjoyed this enough to pre-order the second. Not something I do often. I really hope people get behind this author because I hope to see more of her work. Good books are hard to find, but this is one of them.

I expected nothing from this novel when I started it except a light read. By the end of the book hours had passed, I couldn't put it down, and I was left dying for a sequel. A wonderful first novel from a soon to be household name.

This takes a lot of the expected cliches of supernaturals and creates something new & fun to read. Perhaps most refreshing was the focus on friends over romance -- as well as healthy sexual appetites over militant virginity for the women. Also interesting was that this was a story more about relationships & building trust over some big prophecy--the reading is face paced even if the focus isn't on "the big bad" that needs vanquishing.

For those sensitive: sex & violence are mentioned, but nothing is explicitly described.

I jumped into this book and author completely blind and I just have to say what a great surprise! If you are even a little bit into any of the vamp/shifter type books this series should definitely be on your TBR. At the top. Thank you so much Scarlett Dawn for giving me an awesome escape!! I mean I was staying up way to late and sneaking in a few paragraphs anywhere I could just to see what happens next! I only wish I wouldn't have stumbled upon this book until the third book was already out so I didn't have to wait but that's a minor irritation.
So go read this and King Cave. You won't be sorry!!

After spending most of her life in hiding among the commoners, hybrid shifter/vampire Lily Rucker is sent to king hall, a school which prepares the mysticals for the roles they must play in adulthood. There she forms new friendships, develops new abilities, and determines who and what she is - in short, a wonderful coming of age book. The world building is detailed, the pacing is fast, the characterizations are credible, and, most importantly to me, there is romance of an epic nature-yeah!
The only real complaint I had, in agreement with a few other readers, was Lilys missing early years- and how she became acquainted with Dominic, what exactly happened between Lily and her uncle, and a little more exposition about her mothers death.. Maybe a prequel in the future?

Amazing action packed book but has those pockets of romance. You have a girl who has always hidden and been taught to run. That meets 3 people that become her best friends. Secrets abound and love flourishes. Tragedy happens and choices must be made... Loved it and would recommend reading it.
