Starts out in good sci-fi territory, but fades into action mode. I find the numerous typos to be very distracting. May try another book in the series to see if there is any improvement, or just more of the same theme/action in a slightly different surrounding.

I think this book should be removed from the Thriller category and placed in the Youth Section. The story appears to be written for and directed at those with little worldly experience and who can suspend disbelief easily. More properly titled as "A hick, a chick and a shuttle," the story is about a young man, a recently discharged young female Air Force captain and their antics as they bumble their way through evading the expansive abilities of the US military, foreign military forces and a few criminal organizations. They young man discovers a saucer while working in the desert and chips it loose from the stone in which it's embedded. Then playing "I wonder what this button does?" they learn to control it enough to fly around with it. At each stop, they try to explain the ship away by telling ridiculous stories, and then escape in the nick of time in their water powered aircraft. I enjoy science fiction and I think I have a decent sense of humor, but this book is so low brow that it becomes tiresome. I think that at age 15 (perhaps younger) I might have enjoyed it; my ignorance of the world and social and political realities low enough they wouldn't keep interrupting my reading yelling "what a crock!" in the back of my mind. This was not the sort of thing I expected from the author who's written so many books that enthralled, educated and enlightened me. Were this offered as "Youth Fantasy" I would give it five stars. But unlike the books of Robert Heinlein which were children's books but enjoyable to adult readers like Have Spacesuit Will Travel or Glory Road, Coonts work is definitely mired in a kids only milieu.

It is entertaining but I had hoped that the saucer would provide an adventures platform for the the intrepid team that flies it; as it is, the "adventure" get muzzled by this super rich Australian who is so unlike any Australian I have ever met.

When a flying saucer is discovered it turns into a race against time to keep it out of the wrong hands. It's up to a test pilot, an eccentric inventor and a MIT grad student to save the day. If you are a fan of B V Larson you'll get a kick out of this story

I enjoyed the entire three book series. The question of "are we alone in the universe?" Is answered in such a way that more questions are created than answered. I'm sorry there will be no more with these characters. . . or will there be? Read the series and let your imagination plan the next plot line.

This is an early work of Stephen Coonts revealing the talent in story and writing style that would evolve (and continues to evolve) in his later works to establish this author as one of the best in science fiction story telling. It was enjoyable to read if one keeps in mind it is an early work. I strongly recommend this as an introduction to the young reader. I haven't read the followup to this book but I'm sure it will be even more enjoyable than this first book.

This story must have been written for young folks or teenagers... I found myself skipping through it because the story was predictable... I would pass it by until it finds its way to the 1.99 list...

I enjoyed the book because it finalized the series in a satisfactory manner. The author has written a good story although I would have liked him to develop Adams story more. I enjoy reading Steven Coonts and these books are typical of his writing.

This is an easy reading novel with characters that are fun to know and believable. The plot is written as usual to make us believe the unbelievable. I would love to go on this adventure and while I was reading the story I did.

Definitely 5 stars.
I had already read Saucer Savage Planet and wanted to read the first two of the trilogy.
So far I am not disappointed.
I would recommend this series to any one who likes science, science fiction and adventure
Characters are well defined, and folks who read the whole series should be intrigued by Adam Solo.

I thoroughly enjoyed this the third and at this time last of the saucer series. I hope that the author is working on as sequal. He left an opening at the end for further adventures of Rip and Charlie as they travel the universe.

The thing I most appreciate is the political reality of the story. Not that it is different than other stories - but in the character of Professor Soldi is a voice of morality that ... is what I would like to believe we are as human beings.

Coonts is a masterful story teller. Saucer provides a realistic approach to "discovery" and the subsequent events. Combines the best elements of science fiction and adventure without the silliness of nonsensical science. Really great reading.

When I started the first Saucer book, it felt like I was a kid reading Tom Swift again. That feeling hung on through the series, in a good way. Coonts's knowledge of aviation makes it all very believable. Start with the first one and read all three.

This Novel concludes the Saucer trilogy. IT'S a load fun, with Philosophical questions galore. Travel through space, meet ALIENS, and learn what a man that is over a thousand years old has to say about our Savage Planet.

Saucer: Savage Planet is an excellent continuation of the Saucer Series and I couldn't put the book down. The series could easily be made into a movie. Kudos to Stephen Coonts and his imagination and detail bringing the reader along this great adventure. Also including the grimey pharmeceutical executives and the way they exploit people.

The Saucer series is Coonts w/o being quite Coonts... Not in the tradition of like the Red Horseman or America, or the Camellia books, they seem geared for a younger crowd, but real 'page turners' when you get into them. All in all ya cant go wrong in buying this read but I suggest you start with the first one, the background doesn't carry well if you 'hit' mid stream.

This is a great beginning to the trilogy and sets the characters up really well. Intriguing approach to sci fi and captures the imagination of all non believers. What would happen if we found an old flying saucer?

I actually read the second book of this now known trilogy first. And, it was just as an exciting ride as the second book. I'm just thrilled that Stephen Coonts is continuing this story with a third book next year...can't wait!

Coonts delivers a possible scenario for a first encounter. A bit dragged out in places, but, over-all, a fun read. The fact that Coonts has made a series out of the tale makes me wonder if he's shooting for movie deals.
