Ron Clark mentioned in his book, "Essential 55," that he reads, "The Hundred Dresses," to his class to help his students understand and not allow bullying. This is a great book. I had tears and so did a lot of my students. This book is an easy read and easy to understand. The story helps

-demonstrate to the reader that no matter how poor you are, you don't have to look or act poor.

-shows the reader that a bully is not always someone that gets in your face and calls you names.

-and reveals that watching someone being bullied without helping sometimes makes you just a guilty as the bully.

This book has characters that appear real and reflect on their decisions. Please remember to have tissue!

A beautiful story about a little girl and the effect of poverty. We all need to read this to understand that bullying comes in many forms. We should always be aware of those around us and protect those who can not protect themselves.

Every year, there are certain books that I consider a "must read" for students. "The Hundred Dresses" is one of those books! I've never had a 3rd grader not love this book. It is probably a 5th grade level book, but of the books I read to the students, this is one of my favorites. Many morals and life lessons can be obtained in reading this book. The characters are believable and the illustrations are perfect! I've read this to my GRANDchildren, as well.....everyone should ;)

This is a good choice for the first chapter reader. Carefully told story unfolds to teach children empathy for others - those that are less fortunate or different in any way. I would recommend this time honored author's many works - they transcend the years.

A classic good story for girls that reminds us to be gentle with one another and kind to all we encounter. Follows the tale of an underprivileged new girl at school. She is snubbed by the others and only at the end when she has moved away do they discover her tremendous gift. My daughter who is 6 enjoyed me reading it to her and I remember the classic books from years ago. We recently bought it for another friend's birthday.

This book is great BECAUSE it lacks a moral resolution. When children grow up in a world of Disney, every story has a happy ending and everything magically works out - But that's not how real life works. Sometimes we hurt others and we can't just "take it back". We all need to learn this lesson that sometimes our words and actions carry permanent consequences.

This is a classic book that brings home a wonderful message. Written by award winning author Eleanor Estes over 70 years ago, it speaks to the same issues kids today confront. Timeless. A Newberry Honor Book.
