Always hats off to Parker's story telling power. This time trivial underwear checking affair by principal develops into rather big incident for the cop of small town. Every characters in this story seem to be struggling for real love. I haven't seen the word swingers for a long time. I thought the word was a parting gift of flower generation in seventies. I never imagined those people are still existing. I'm so glad to read Jesse finally shut down Jenn who pleas coming back to him. As Japanese I have been impatient of Jesse's attitude toward her so far. I hope it will be a good start for Jesse Stone novel, not "be bodes well!"

Night and Day gives us Jesse in a personal mood. All of the Jesse Stone novels do, to some degree, but this one does so with special emphasis. Jesse is involved with his former wife Jenn in an ongoing, self-destructive relationship. In Night and Day she has taken a job in New York that involves a live-in arrangement with her producer. Jesse pines, but finds solace in the company of Sunny Randall, Rita Fiore and his shrink, Dix. Meanwhile he is dealing with two cases--one in which a school principal has invaded the privacy of her female charges by inspecting their undergarments and a second in which the town of Paradise is dealing with a peeper who assumes the name of the Night Hawk and escalates his activities to include home invasions. These involve the photographing of women but the violence remains psychological and not (yet) physical. In short, Jesse must deal with a succession of sex and gender issues at the same time that he is trying to sort out his own. I don't want to spoil the ending, but suffice to say that it is satisfying and that all of the problems are (for now at least) resolved.

A special pleasure in the Jesse Stone novels results from the fact that the film adaptations have been so successful. I now hear Tom Selleck's voice speaking Jesse's lines and the results are dead-on effective. Jesse is an attractive character; we welcome the chance to learn more about his personal experiences and travails and Night and Day satisfies our curiosity nicely. Highly recommended.

The writing is concise. Short chapters. Nice interweaving of back history and crime solving. No extraneous information. I recommend the series. I've not read the continuation books by another author after Mr. Parker's death, so I can't comment on whether they have the same rhythms.

I first learned of both Robert Parker the author and Jesse Stone the Paradise, MA police chief by watching the complete Jesse Stone series on Television. In fact I bought the whole series ob DVD. If you are a Robert Parker or Jesse Stone fan you will enjoy this book.

I love these books and the characters. Since I've followed the television series, The characters come alive to me on the pages of the books. Also, the mystery that this author always describes so well is very enjoyable.

This was another great Robert B. Parker mystery from beginning to end. He writes in a way that captures your attention and he never lets you down. I certainly hope Tom Selleck continues with his Jesse Stone series on TV as no one plays this part better than he.

I have made a collection of Mr Parkers writings. I think the Jesse Stone novels are the best. Sorry to lose such a great writer as Mr Parker. Mr Brandman will carry on the tradition as he equally shared these good storys both in film and in writing.

We walk through the book with chief Stone and his weaknesses and his loves. Every town should have Jesse Stone as chief of police. His staff loves him, as does his readers. Every book sits beside you on the couch and just enjoys an evening at him with you.

Parker's Jesse stone series is always entertaining. This is not the strongest outing by far, the villain is lukewarm at best, but Parker was second to none in hard boiled detective fiction. His prose caries the story along even with the weak antagonist.

I do, very much, enjoy the Jesse Stone stories. I've been a Parker fan for many years and proud to say I own em all except one. Even re-read them years later and enjoyed them just as much.
Spenser was another favorite character.

Avoid the the store "Create Space" printing of this book. This publication is a disaster, not a real book at all, barely readable with tiny pale type. A complete waste of money. Shame on the store for selling it.

Love Robert B Parker's writing style. Between Spenser and Jessie Stone the reading is easy, interesting, at times funny and always a very quick read. Night and Day was no exception and I will continue to read the rest of this series and of course the Spenser series as well. Anyone who enjoys light reading that is always fun, and not put the book down Authors, should pick out the first of this series and get ready to become immersed in a great read.

ZERO STARS. Everyone has read the complaints about Parker's latest works - double spacing, large fonts, one third pages, etc. Until you try one his books on audio, you do not know how bad it has gotten. I bought this book on CD's for a recent trip. I know the books had gotten shorter but you can't hide that in audio - the unabridged edition is a total of 5 discs with a spacer taking up half the box to make the box look normal size for a novel.

On top of that, if you eliminated the amateur technique, you would remove 40% more of the book. Almost every line ends with "name said" - as in "What do you think?", Jesse said. "I don't know.", Molly said. When reading the books, your eyes can easily skip over this. When listening to it on audio, there is no way to tune it out. After less than half a disc, I have had to stop. Don't get me wrong, I have always enjoyed Parker - I own every book he has published - but this may be the last. ROBERT B. PARKER - make an effort or hang it up - this is embarrassing. I would not recommend this book to anyone.

I have always enjoyed the works of Robert Parker and when he passed I thought that was the end of that. The attempt to pick up the torch and carry on in the tradition was admirable, but there is only one Robert B. Parker.
