This book I written to acompany students taking junior level physics at a university, for that purpose the book excels at what it does, however its very dense, with math and not a lot of theory, if you want to learn about quantum mechanics on your own accord just for self enrichment purposes there are much better options.

This book is actually quite a gentle introduction to quantum physics (in context of course). I applaud the "For Dummies" series for coming out with a book with some actual meat to it. I would suggest you leaf through the book at a bookstore or use the store's preview feature before buying to know what you're in for but truly if you have a basic physics/math background the concepts will prove to be challenging perhaps, but much gentler than any other introductory text I've read.

Also, reader be warned. This book is riddled with errors from what seems to be carelessness on the authors behalf. I can't really recommend this text because of the sheer amount of incorrect statements found throughout.

Yes this is a "for dummies" book, but quantum physics is one of the hardest, if not the hardest class offered in college period. They can only dumb it down so much. I took physical chemistry 2 which is basically quantum physics applied to chemistry. The book assigned for that course was impossible! And I had no problem reading and understanding my organic chemistry book, but the chapters on quantum physics were rediculous. I had to read things over 3 or more times to understand them. This book is much easier to understand, but the subject matter is still very complicated.

Quantum mechanics is not a philosophy, it's a branch of physics, and like all branches of physics it uses mathematics as a language. This book is not for the laymen and a quick look inside or even at the cover bullets will tell you that. This book is for dummies like me who are struggling in their QM course. It's really annoying seeing all these negative reviews from people expecting a text on popular science.

As I have friends who talk about this particular subject they stimulated my interest.Having purchased Quantum physics for beginners, being a dummie on this subject I felt obliged to dig deaper hence my recent choice. In choosing this book I had to cast my mind back to my early studies in maths physics differential calculus etc. Thus having extracated my old slidrule from ita ancient dust cover and with more up to date assistance Iam still working hard to get a greater understanding of a very complex science. At this moment in time I am 88 maybe If you ask the same question in 2 years time i will be more proficient in the subject matter.

Obviously this book is not for dummies, you need to know a little about QM and some math but compared to the quantum physics textbooks this book is much easier to understand. You obviously have to know some math if you want to understand any of the topics in quantum physics - even "dummies" should know that - but the math is not hard when you compare it to the math in the textbooks and the author does a fantastic job of explaining what the equations mean (physically). This book has been a tremendous help to me.

Having an astronomy degree, I'm not exactly a "dummy" when it comes to physics, but wanted a refresher on quantum and so bought this book. I found it very disappointing. The author skips right over precisely the steps and derivations a "for dummies" book should walk you through more carefully. The book is also plagued by numerous typos in the formulas - in some chapters at a rate approaching one per page. Some of the errors are inconsequential/easily spotted, but many are significant enough to mislead the reader. I got the impression the whole book was thrown together in a rush just to fill a hole in the For Dummies catalog.
