Good or Evil? Darren Shan, the author of the Saga of Darren Shan, has never drawn the boundary line clearly. He believes it depends on which position you are and which aspect you are looking from. For example, in a war, or in the society, our enemies are always the one who has different beliefs from ours. In other words, people fight for their faith. This kind of things happens all the time in the Saga of Darren Shan. For instance, Tunnels of Blood ¡Vthe third book of the Saga, an introduction to the history and the world of vampires and their brothers who have different faith from them, the vampanezes.
Basically, Tunnel of Blood is talking about a half-vampire¡¦s, Darren Shan (the author gave the main character his own name), his best friend¡¦s, Evera the snake-boy, and his mentor¡¦s, Mr. Crepsley the vampire, visit to a small town. Because it was under threat by a vampaneze ¡Va kind of vampire, but they kill human beings for blood¡Xand the town was Mr. Crepsley¡¦s home, he brought his assistant, Darren Shan, to help him, yet without telling him what he thought. He went out furtively everyday and cases of murder were on the television everyday. Most importantly, all the victims had their blood all sucked out. No one knew who did it, but Darren Shan thought he knows. He believed it was Mr. Crepsley, so he decided to stop him from killing the next person and kill the evil vampire. Nevertheless, things went totally wrong! Someone unknown to Darren Shan, a vampaneze the real killer, suddenly popped out and kidnapped Evera. Darren Shan almost killed his mentor, just because Mr. Crepsley never told him what he thinks. The relationship between them two is very weird because they did not trust each other, even though they are mentors and assistant. Finally, in this book Mr. Crespley realized that he has to trust his assistant before he wants his assistant to trust himself. They finally work together as a real mentor and assistant.
Incredible twists and plans were taking place in this book. Unlike previous vampire stories, Dracula for instance, Darren Shan¡¦s vampires are not evils, they don¡¦t kill human and they don¡¦t view human beings as animals. However, sometimes they love human.
Anyway, I enjoy it a lot. Honestly, I could not put the book down as I start reading it. I believe anyone who enjoys or can read Harry Potter or Lord of the Rings will definitely love this book!

Tunnels of Blood
In this book Mr. Crepsley and Darren are going to a town to track a vampire who has been killing people for pleasure. Darren doesn't know about what they went to the town for. Darren is happy enough that he could bring a friend along this time. Mr. Crepsley and Darren are vampires; they travel all over so they don't get discovered. Darren and Evera spent most of there time messing around in town. One day when they were messing around Darren met a girl that he really liked. Darren and Evera were watching T. V. when they herd about a murder that happened in the same town that they were in. the two of them thought that Mr. Crepsley was killing people so they agreed that they need to follow him. Every night they tried to follow Mr. Crepsley but always fell behind and lost him. The next day there was always a news report that someone was killed the night before. One night they were able to keep up with Mr. Crepsley. They followed him all the way to a meat storage facility. Darren followed him into the facility and saw him stalking a man there. Darren suddenly saw a blur go after the man so he yelled. The blur went after Darren. Darren then discovered that it wasn't Mr. Crepsley but another vampire an evil vampire. Mr. Crepsley told Darren whom it was that they were following after he scared him away. When they went out they could not find Evera instead they found scales that led into the sewer. They went down into the sewer and started looking for the evil vampire. They found were he was living and were Evera was. They decided to trade Darren's girlfriend for Evera. To find out what happens you will have to read the book for your self.

Thanks to the Cirque du Freak book series my soon to be husband is actually turning off the television and reading every once in a while :)
Darren Shan is a very suspenseful writer and keeps his readers on the edge of their seats for the entire wild ride :)
I have all of Darren's books including two currently out of print books that are published under his full name Darren O'Shaughnessy:
Ayuamarca: Procession of the Dead (City Book 1)
Hell's Horizon (City Book 2)

I tried reading Darren Shan's other series,The Demonta, and I could not get through it.So I tried Cirque Du Freak and really liked it.When I read through the third book I just thought it was stupid.Though it didn't stop me from wanting to read the rest of the series. Then when I was waiting for the next book I saw that I had the book The Lightning Theif on my shelf. I decided that I would use it as reading material until I got the fourth Cirque Du Freak book.I started reading The Lightning Theif and immediatley I was hooked.I started begging for more of the series and was not able to read the fourth book of the Cirque. The more I think about it the more I realize that the Cirque is really bland and has no good writing values.

I liked the book because it was thrilling from beginning to end!, plus it disagreed with mostly all the other books about what vampires can and can't do. Darren Shan almost makes it seem "vampires" are real! Out of the first three books this book definitely is the best.

Tunnels of blood is an absolutly fabulous book. Darren Shan's series are the most imaginative, captivating books I have ever read. In this book, the main character, Darren, discovers a horrible situation in which humans are being killed and drained of blood in his master's hometown! He gets his first girlfriend and has to deal with keeping secrets from her. His friends become in grave danger at the end, which leads to a page turning turn of events that will knock your socks off. This is a must read, but you absolutely have to READ THE BOOKS IN ORDER.

this was an exciting, bone chilling book. I absolutely loved it.
Everything about it was awesome. with Darren trying to survive with Mr.Cripsly it the tunnels of the city after leaving the freakshow. Although i would not reccomend for children under the age of 8 because the concept of the book is not appropriate.

The cirque du freak series is an amazing book about a heroic boy who to save his friends life from his own pure stupidity screws up his own life. My favorite part about this series is how Darren Shan takes old rules about vampires and makes it his own...

The setting of where each character lives throughout most of the story is: Darren lives in different apartments with Evra the snake-boy and Mr. Crepsley his father figure (not in the beginning though), Debbie lives in an apartment that is next to Darren's, and Murlough, the evil vampanese, lives under the city in a huge mass of sewage pipes.
In the story there are vampires and vampanese, and the only difference between them is how they look and how they drink blood. Vampanese suck their victims dry and in doing so they preserve their victims memories, but vampires take small amounts at a time. The skin color of a Vampanese is purple with ruby red lips due to their extremely high dose of blood, but the skin color of a vampire is just like human skin (white, black, yellow, etc.)
The setting of this book is mainly in a small Mr. Crepsley's hometown. Mr. Crepsley is a full vampire who has an apprentice named Darren Shan.
The main conflict of the story is that Murlough keeps on killing people in Mr. Crepsleys hometown, and they want to catch him and stop him.
In the beginning Darren has no idea that vampanese exist, so when he hears the news that people were getting sucked dry in the same town he was in, he thought that Mr. Crepsley was the one doing it.
The best part of this book, like so many other books, was the climax, which was when Darren was caught along with Evra by Murlough, and had to set a trap to trick Murlough out of his hideout in the tunnels and into the big city. They did this by saying he would give him his girlfriend if Murlough let him and Evra go. Murlough had no big use for them because he could not drink from them. A vampire's blood was poisonous to him and he could not drink from Evra because he had snake blood in him and snake blood was also poisonous to him. In the end Darren didn't give up his girlfriend's life for his and Evra. He just led Murlough to her house and Mr. Crepsley was there waiting and he had killed him on the spot.
