Highly enjoyable read. I like Pogue's interpretation of magic and it's source. This book does a good job setting up the following books. Once I finished I had to read all the way through the series and the mini-books.

Davon has latent gift - magic. The reen guard don't like it and between a wizard and Davon an adventure begins.
Well constructed story leads to a good read although there are some some unpronouncable names.
Although I will not read it again I would recommend the book to any fantasy reader

Middle of the line fantasy novel at a good price. The aurhor isn't covering any new ground, genre-wise but delivers a very solid product with interesting charecters, reasonably well fleshed out. The love interest is not very compellingly written or pertinent to the story, and some of the plot lines get abandoned in ways that obviously lead to the next book, but overall a creditable stand-alone read. I confess that I am a bit biased against it because I visited the publisher's webpage and, on it, the author comes across as a pretentious twit, but that is neither here nor there with regard to the story.

In a genre of predictable might and magic, there is a gem of creativity - Taming Fire: The Dragonprince Trilogy.
It took me a few weeks to finish this book because I only read small portions at a time.
Once I finished the book, I wasn't happy. I wanted more and I couldn't find the next book.
Then, I started thinking about everything that I had experienced during the course of the story.
It was truly unique.
In the fantasy genre things are generally the same. There are magic users and sword swingers and dragons and evil psychopaths. This book has it all. However, it's not the same old thing. His whole idea of the world being an illusion and wizards manipulating the world is a giant concept. Along with that, he injected true power and presence in his characters.
You will see that Taming Fire is truly a gem that offers a grand experience from a fresh author.
P.S. Have you seen his website/picture? He's a total cutie!

WizArds, dragons, sorcery.....these things are woven together very well in this book. For the most part, I have a hard time reading fantasies. This may qualify but is much better than the usual fare. Driven hard by the energy of the plot, all the necessary details to flesh out the story are flawlessly laid out. Excellent read. Looking forward to the next one.

I was quite pleasantly surprised by this book. The characters were complex; friends and adversaries both behave in ways that couldn't be predicted in any simple way. The main character frequently behaves in ways that are ill advised for himself and for the plot, but are firmly grounded in what he knows and how he feels; they are the logical thing to do even if the reader knows that they're not the best thing to do. This gives me confidence that some of the actions of the adversaries are equally strongly motivated by drives that I cannot yet perceive.
The story happens in a political context that is plausible and that can plausibly serve as a call to action, motivating characters to step out of their comfort zone.
I can't say that I love the magic system. It is powerful, flexible, and based on some interesting presumptions about the nature of reality. Unfortunately due to limitations of the protagonist, we get only a very scant understanding of the true power and agility of the system. His unusual relationship with magic significantly detracts from my ability to empathize with him. "Fire" was a poor choice for the first book in my opinion. Although I wish the author had made some different choices, the choices that were made were handled well.
The book ends on a very weak note. The weakest character in the book is the love interest. When she is motivated by her family, her loyalty or her duty, I like her. In short, when she is acting as a character in the world, she is a strong, interesting person who makes good decisions based on difficult circumstances. When she is acting as the protagonist's romantic lead, I want to avoid her, skip to the end of the chapter and give the author a very fishy look. It could be that Mr. Pogue will surprise me by giving her more depth and foundation in future books. I'll reserve judgement for now.
This book is significantly undervalued; I'd pay full price for this book, and I'd recommend you buy it now at this price.

I picked up this book after reading other people reviews on it, and I am pretty pleased that I did.
The book was fun to read and I got immersed in it pretty quickly.
I only gave it 4 stars out of 5 since I do feel it lacks a little in character development, the book almost entirely concentrates around the hero and the supported characters are not developed enough in my opinion.
It is a great read and I recommend it to anyone who enjoys a good fantasy story about dragons.

The premise was enticing. The execution.....not so much. I read #1 & #2 just to finish the story, but was delighted to realize the third one was about a different generation, so I could just let it go. It is doubtful I will ever purchase another book by this author.

I originally downloaded the book because it had a cool cover and i liked the title. However after i started reading it i couldn't stop until it was over. Taming Fire is a good coming of age story with age story mixed with magic and swordsmanship!

An enjoyable new author. I am looking forward to readings the rest of this series. I have also enjoyed that it is a nice quick morning read. I don't have to walk away mid chapter And suffer the readers withdrawal.

The content is very good. The story starts a little slow, but develops into a very interesting story. The text should have been better proof read, there are many miss spelled words and awkwardly written phrases. If you can over look the proof reading you will enjoy reading this entire Trilogy.

This started of very very slowly..I liked the premise if reading somethin wizard/warrior...very much along the lines of goodkind's war wizard which i think is a cool concept. Anyways this series definately has an interesting magic system with the ability to tap into non-reality to make reality, but what was very interesting is the mix dragons play into it. I think there could have been more exploration of the magic thats within the hero and how he uses it etc as well as better description of action scenes etc.
Otherwise didnt blow my socks off but otherwise was a pleasant read

Fantasy...it's so far out there and, obviously, not realistic. That's how I've always felt; and, therefore, I've avoided fantasy like the plague. This book, however had a stronger sense of "real" to it. The main character is so well grounded in the "real" world that I found myself thinking the use of magic and wizardry actually made sense. It was not simply a frivolous manner of demonstrating the author's creativity/ingenuity, as many fantasy novels seem to be.
Aaron Pogue shows an incredible amount of knowledge and understanding of the terminology of all non-fictional aspects of this book, indicating that he is either HIGHLY talented or that he's done his research. Either way, I was very impressed and look forward to the other books in the trilogy.
The only aspect of the book I did not care for was the obvious lead into the second book at the end. We all know the story is not over, and I don't feel we needed the paragraph or two at the end to remind us. (just one person's simple opinion)

This was an interesting book, my issue with it was that the "hero" was not a character that I was really rooting for. And he was constantly being beat up, horribly! There was way too much time spent on his beatings than on developing his character.
