Unexpectedly, the intellectually strong and supposedly emotionally weak shows great strength. Overall, a lot of unexpected twists and turns that lead to the suspense that is typical of the books. After reading, however, it is obvious that the new developments do not compromise character traits but skillfully show consistency. If you have anything pressing to do, do not read, it might prove too painful to stop.

While some of the themes are familiar (young boy discovers previously unknown powers) the characters are most interesting because they are not necessarily evil or good. The world is pure (and imaginative) fantasy, but the moral ambivalence is very much true to life.

The first book was lacking character development and jumped around too much for my liking. The second book got better and the third was a big improvement. Overall 3 stars, though book one was a low two.

This book concentrates way too much on the fights, with very limited logic behind the character actions. If you are looking for a book where character actions make at least some sense, rather than a book about senseless fighting, this book is not for you.

Action is consistent, storyline is good with occasional depth and a few surprise twists. I do find the characters and events are sometimes simplified and could use a bit more depth and exploration. Feels like a teen book that is breaking into bigger leagues. I will definitely get the next books when the series continues. He left a few storylines untied, with hints of a darker shadow behind the scenes.

This trilogy, like many books these days, goes on way too long. I'd say that everything said in hundreds of pages could be more succinctly said in 150 - 200 pages. The characters are underdeveloped and one dimensional. There is a lot of unnecessary repetition. The response, for example, of Simon is pretty much always the same in any situation. And, besides, Simon was a total neophyte, but he is powerful? If you want a light read this is entertaining. If you care about quality of writing, this is not for you. There are a few times in which I almost threw my Kindle across the room. There is something "catchy" about this book, so it's not a total loss, but there are other books that far exceed the quality of writing and imagination.

I enjoy reading the story from multiple characters poin of view. Simon was well written as a boy looking for a way to save those around him. Leah and Alin were great compliments to him in their respective roles.

I very much enjoyed the characters, and their growth throughout this series. The world was rich and had a lot of different parts for each of them to explore. I couldn't resist just one more chapter until I had read the whole thing. Going to start the next In the series immediately.

Am I really the only person to care about realistic actions of main characters? How does Leah go from trying to stop Carmack attack on the villagers to standing there "angry and resolute" while he kills several of them in the cave? I want my money back.

Will, this series was exceptional! I really enjoyed reading this series and highly recommend this series to everyone interested in reading a great story. I particularly liked the fact that you didn't use God's name in vain, didn't use sexual content and didn't use gory details describing battle scenes. To me this means the story can be read by anyone interested in reading a great story. Thanks for writing such an interesting plot line.

I got this version of the trilogy because I wanted to read all 3 together, and I wasn't disappointed. Will Wight has created a world that you could engage in and really visualize clearly in your head. I liked the that the main character isn't a big brawny classic hero but a smaller seemingly weak figure who had to earn his strengths. Creative and fun. Would also make a great video game or movie.
