I had not known there were these Mary Poppins books. I am really enjoying reading them. They are fun and easy to pick up at odd times for a quick read. Although I am of the older generation, I am still young in heart and enjoy reading them. I am sure the younger children will really enjoy them - there isn't much imagination in the kids now days so I think these will awaken that in for them.

Yes, part of my disappointment is my own fault for not looking up the definition of "omnibus" before buying...BUT, considering the description lists the separate titles and mentions the last 2 are combined, I did expect a set of smaller, more manageable books. I was also misled by several references to "books" in the multiplet reviews and by the pictures of multiple books showing on my screen (not necessarily the seller's fault, the store displays multiple images for what you are looking at), but still surprising when I opened the bubble envelope. It did arrive sooner than expected, so that was a bonus.

I picked up this book after seeing the film, Saving Mr Banks. (I thought of buying the biography of PL Travers, but decided it was too long.) Since I hadn't read the Mary Poppins books - in fact, didn't know they existed - I got this.
Each story in the book is actually a vignette. The general format is that the children set out to do something quite ordinary - like go shopping or to the park - with nanny Mary Poppins. Supernatural events ensue, during which Mary Poppins is seen to be amazingly powerful, but her identity or origin is never actually explained. Sometimes, she must rescue one of the children. The episode ends with Mary Poppins strictly taking them home, and pretending that nothing supernatural occurred... except that there's a tiny bit of evidence that it did.
Despite this apparently repetitive framework, the stories were fresh and delightful. My only regret is that I didn't find this book years ago. It would make an excellent bed-time book to read aloud to children, especially if they're willing to be transported to an era of nannies and cooks and tea-time walks in a small park somewhere in England.

This is a great series! A whimsical and easy read that takes me back to childhood fantasies! English vernacular may occasionally trip up young u.s born readers but not enough to disturb the storyline.

I ordered this omnibus after reading the first Mary Poppins book, and was very excited to have all the books in one collection. The book is quite large, but lovely nonetheless.
I do have one thing to point out, as no one else mentioned this. If you are already familiar with the Poppins chapter books, you'll know they have very nice pictures to go with them. Unfortunately for this edition, with the exception of a small image preceding each chapter, this book has NO ILLUSTRATIONS! Again, with the exception a few of the popular images featured (one per chapter), there are none of the big, full page illustrations like in the singular little chapter books. Adults may not mind (though I am an adult), but kiddies might be disappointed. Not a deal breaker, at least for me, and I don't regret buying this book. It's wonderful in every other way. I just wanted to point this out.

I decided to read this book after seeing the movie Saving Mr. Banks. I loved Mary Poppins the movie and was intrigued to read the book. I enjoyed the book, I felt like the character of Mary herself was not really warm or loving or even engaging. It was an interesting read rarely do I like a movie better than a book but in this case it's so. I didn't like how Mary always undermines the children and makes them seem like they are making all their adventures up. I feel like makes the children question the validity of their adventures and makes them feel like liars.

I guess I don't understand the adoration for these books. I lived the movie better. I don't understand why Marry is so mean but good at the same time. She frightens the children. In herown way she is as bad as Mr. Banks ' nanny.

The Mary Poppins books are a childhood favorite of mine, and it always surprises me to find out how many people think there was only one book, and that the movie (which I love) tells the whole story. In fact, there is much to be told about Mary Poppins and the Banks family and their world, and this Is a great way to read all of Travers' clever, astringent and yet loving story about them.
This has probably been issued to capitalize on the new film "Saving Mr Banks", but any excuse to get a convenient, well-priced set of the whole story is a good one.

After seeing Saving Mr. Banks, I wanted to read the Mary Poppins books again. I was struck by the remarkable job Walk Disney did in recreating the story on screen. I would recommend this series of books for anyone looking for adventure, and a little magic. A real Feel-Good read!

Delightful reading for youngsters. Was interested in the author's bio and am still which one of the person's in her life was the source for her 'Mary Poppins. That issue wasn't even solved in the movie, 'Saving Mr. Banes" Her father didn't fit the p picture of Mr. Banes in the movie as far as I could see.
