Living in France close to Saumur and the Cadre Noire, this book was quite factual and an enthralling read. It could make you laugh and certainly make you cry. It was a great read and would recommend it to all, whether you are a horse lover or not. The story line was brilliant.

Have read another book by the author called The girl you left behind and enjoyed it thoroughly . So i opted to read another book by the same author.Much as I really liked how it began ,the story, the characters, the plot...I felt it just carried on on and on.It was much too long and tedious to read towards the end.

Enjoyed the book. A couple on the verge of losing what had been a loving marriage and a 14 year old girl on the verge of losing all she has left that is important to her in life. The book tells the perspectives of all three main characters, which makes you feel their pain and contemplate how you would handle their individual situations. I did know a bit about dressage and the Spanish Riding School of Vienna, but I wish I knew a little more French; my used English library copy didn't translate the French for me. But it was a great buy and I love the feel of used library books; takes me back to the days when I was a 14 year old girl who loved horses and reading. And still do.

Put together unlikable characters with a completely unbelievable plot, tie it up with an improbable ending where everyone is happy, and you have this book. I have read other books by Ms. Moyes and enjoyed them - they were light and plot-driven, but came across as having some connection with reality. Not this one.

This is a multi-faceted novel incorporating love, dedication, passion, obsession combined with a great depth of understanding of the relationship that can exist between people and horses. I could not put it down!

The book is difficult to review because I liked the book but the main story line of the book is about the young women and her bond with her horse. And she goes to great lengths to maintain that bond plus ownership of her horse. The relationship stuff with the other characters didn't out work so well for me but it is a good book.
