Everything you need to know about the financial side of retirement, explained in a fully accessible yet non-condescending way. This is becoming my bible for planning retirement and I am recommending it to everyone. Very up to date.

Jane presents a thorough, well rounded presentation for all who will be retiring or are retired. I will be referring to specific chapters as aids for making educated decisions, throughout my retirement.

Jane Bryant Quinn has created a book that clearly answers the questions facing someone who is about to, or has just retired. Very easy to understand and chock full of valuable information. I have recommended this to several friends.

This book is fantastic, an excellent resource for the new retiree.
As a new retiree, I find the subject matter to be quite applicable to my situation. The material is well written, concise and presented in a most interesting way. Many of my questions about retirement finance were answered and I now feel quite confident in meeting my financial goals.

I would highly recommend for anyone considering retirement, especially folks near retirement age. I recently had been told (by friends and indeed by Social Security) that a benefit I had planned on claiming at age 66 was no longer available to me, after changes that were suddenly made to Social Security by Congress in 2015. There is a chapter in this book about that very same benefit that discussed the benefit in full detail, and how to make the claim online or in person. Armed with information I was successful. I now have spousal benefits and have delayed my own benefits until I am 7 .This book helped save me a substantial amount of money! Even without being eligible for that particular benefit, this book is very informative and helpful. HIGHLY RECOMMEND

Outstanding advice. Most older adults (like me) have been conditioned to just about eliminate risk by going heavily to bonds and cash. Jane's contrast about stock and bond performance pretty much proves that you have to put some stocks in the mix so you won't run out of money later on down the road. Keep about two years of expense money in short-term bonds and cash, but take a little risk in stocks through index mutual funds. I switched to that strategy a few years ago, and it has paid off.
If you're thinking of buying an annuity or hiring a financial advisor, her coverage is an eye opener. A lot of folks, me included, aren't familiar with annuities and can easily make a mistake in choosing one. We also make a mistake in hiring a financial product salesperson, believing they are a financial planner. As she points out, annuities can be a sucker game, and planners may be more interested in making commissions that making money for you. JBQ's advice will save you a lot of pain in those areas.
This entire book is full of good advice!
