This card was very true to the Rider Waite symbolism. Other than that, I can't really say too much positive about it. It was about what I expected as far as artwork goes. It didn't blow me away though. The card stock is not as thick as I would like for readings. This is a nice deck to add to a collection or for someone who is into Steam Punk. I'll display it in my collection but I won't use this deck for readings.

THE STEAMPUNK TAROT
Journey into a world that is like no other.

The Steampunk Tarot is a very unusual deck. It is based in the world that is slightly 1800's Victorian England and slightly mechanical, gears and industrial. If you have ever seen a depiction of a Steampunk world, it is very cool to look at. Top hats and umbrellas, gears and ancient pilot goggles - I love all things steampunk. So, this deck was definitely a great fit for me. We all have those decks that we gravitate to. This is my go-to deck. If I don't have a deck in mind, I will always grab this one. I totally resonate with it. Love it!

The Steampunk Tarot is a Rider-Waite based deck with the artwork by English artist, Aly Fell. If you have never heard of the Rider-Waite deck, you must be living under a rock or have never picked up a deck in the last two decades. A lot of decks these days are based on the original tarot deck, that is now published by U.S.Games Systems, Inc. It is the old-school tarot that many people still use and love. But a lot of tarot makers don't vary much from the original depictions of the cards that Pamela Colman Smith created in 1909. But of course, everyone puts their own spin on the cards. The Steampunk deck is no different. Fell has provided what looks like digital artwork for the cards. And if you are not a fan of digitsl, stand back and take a new look. You're gonna love this artwork. It's all in a bit of an amber/brown cast that truly brings about the steampunk genre.

The companion book is a massive 298 page tome written by my favorite tarot book author, Barbara Moore. (Yes, I'm a fan girl. Can authors have fan girls?) I always suggest any books written by her to people who are new and wanting to learn tarot and know the definitions as I learned them. It is awesome and definitely worth picking up along with the deck itself. Mine came together... love, love, love that. As far as descriptions of the card and divination info you get a small black and white photo of each card and a good bit of text that sometimes can run two or three pages.

Most tarot decks have court cards, which can or may not depict actual physical people. The usual deck will only have women depicted as the Queens. But it is a toss up to figure out what gender is a king, a queen, a knight or a page. And that doesn't bother me at all, but it will bother some.

If you are looking for an unusual deck that is very unique and stands out, then this deck is definitely for you.

What a great and beautiful deck! I have always been a fan of Steampunk, and tarot. Seeing them both combined is great! The images are beautiful, and readings (for me at least) are a lot easier based on the imagery. Its still Rider-Waite based, but modernized to steampunk. Includes a large book with detailed information on each card. It has a "dark" feel to them, like they are good for using at night! But not necessarily a dark deck.

An excellent alternative deck! Based on the classic Rider-Waite (& Smith) deck but with Steampunk imagery. The illustrations are finely done and greatly detailed. The machine imagery is compelling in our modern era when machines have become so integral to our lives.

I deducted 1 star from a perfect 5 for the following 2 reasons:
1. The card-stock is thin and the sides of the cards appear "dented" pretty quickly under heavy use. I will have to replace them in a couple years. Not a deal-breaker ... the cards shuffle well, good size, and perform adequately. Yet they won't last as long as my Rider-Waite or Thoth decks from US Games which have a 5 year life-span. These look like maybe a 2-3 year life span?
Caveat: I like my cards crisp and replace them when they get mushy or dented. Other readers like "well broken-in" decks.
2. The Knights are all female and there is a preponderance of females over males. In one respect, I like the gender-bending and the androgynous appearance of the pages and knights ... but also I like a balance of male and female figures. The Knights and Pages are so androgynous I suppose you could choose the gender ... which is a valid point in this day and age ... OTOH ... the book refers to them as "she" and the small cards depict far more females than males. I still love the deck ... just wish for more balance of male and female figures.

Minor complaints aside - the deck is awesome. It gives accurate readings.

This is quickly becoming my absolute favorite deck to use! The artwork is stunning and every card in the deck is so unique, telling a beautiful story. This deck is easy to work with and understand (especially with the manual included in the set), so it's perfect for beginners or seasoned tarot readers. The cards are well made and very easy to shuffle. Also, the accompanying manual/book is so well written and helpful in exploring and interpreting the cards. This set has a permanent spot on my bookshelf and I am so thrilled to have found it!

A very beautiful Tarot deck! I cannot wait to use it. The product is exactly as described and comes with a book to aid in the reading of the cards. The artwork is stunning and I absolutely love it! It is for sure worth the money. :)

This deck is my fourth tarot deck and I absolutely love it. Illustrations are awesome, colours great and the card stock is just fine. I read on another review that the stock was no good but I am very pleased with it. Readings from this deck are very intuitive and accurate everytime. If you are into magickal invocations using the Tarot characters most of the court cards are great but that depends on your personal point of view. I am not personally into steampunk as a lifestyle but love the whole concept and all that goes along with it. The book that comes with the deck is excellent and sometimes even when using another deck I also read the meaning from the Steampunk Tarot as well. I find Barbara Moore's descritions and narratives really in harmony with the way I think and therfore looking at some of her other books. Solid 5*.

I bought this by accident thinking that it was Charissa Drengsen's Steampunk Tarot deck (which is fabulous!). Noticing my error, I was expecting to be disappointed, but I found that this is a very good deck, particularly for the price. The color scheme is on the dark side, but the card backs are a wonderful cog design, and the artwork is excellent. There are some wonderful cards in here: the high priestess and queen of cups come to mind, in particular. The cards are easy to handle and shuffle well. I wish that the artist would have included more male characters, since most of the knights and pages are female. But that is a small point. In all, very well done.

Steampunk Tarot fit my need perfectly.

The artwork is beautiful, detailed, and easy to understand even without the book.
It's packaged in a decent sized box, which hold the cards, and a book giving explanations for each card.
The book itself is fairly standard for a tarot set, but is always nice to have, and gives a beginner something to look into more.

I just purchased this deck, and the Witches Tarot, and I have to say - I love both decks for different reasons, but the Steampunk Tarot is absolutely beautiful. The Death card is one of my favorites and the Court Cards are done beautifully. Most of the Knights are women which I found unique. This is definately worth the money and highly recommended.

The artwork and imagination that went into creating these is fantastic. I want to blow up some of the images so they would work as wall art!

Yes, the cards are a little on the thin side, but it's still worth it.

My favorite tarot set, at the moment. The images in this set are beautiful and not too dark. They have a light feel even in a negative reading. I would suggest these for beginners as they have a very detailed book with card information and tips for interpretation.

I've never experience as amazing energy, accuracy, and readablility from a tarot deck. The pictures are also beautiful. It's also a little bonus that one of the cards bears an uncanny resemblance to me.

I love SteamPunk, and Tarot, so both of these genres together makes sense. I found this set via the book of faces on a suggestion from a post. The artwork is beautiful, and while some of the choices for cards are different than what I'd expect, I truly enjoy them overall. An excellent addition to my collection, thank you.

I pre-ordered this set because of Barabara Moore's involvement...I was a little skeptical about how I would feel about the imagery. I opened the box and was completely blown away. While this deck is traditional enough to be of use readily and very easily, it has a definite 'edge' of Steampunk to it. Having said that. It is perfectly done. The images are impeccable and stay with you. They evoke a very visceral response. They are lush, very detailed,{but not overly so}, rich and sumptuous. If you are even a little intrigued by this deck BUY IT NOW> Kudos to the artist Aly Fell. This is some of the best artwork I have seen in a deck...
The book that comes with it is worth the price of admission and then some. It is beautifully written and has lovely historical references which tie the Steampunk imagery to the Tarot and why the images were chosen. It is full of valuable tips and interpretations of the cards which really are a revelation. Many years of experience are delightfully exposed in an easy down to earth fashion that makes you feel as if she is talking to you in your living room giving you a private lesson. It is gracious, humorous in some places and all around wonderful. This complete package is a MUST HAVE for any Tarot card collector or someone just starting out who is looking for some different and more contemporary images. I cannot say enough about it. Mishka

I thought the price for this was very fair seeing as it includes the cards and a manual for using them. The cards have very high-quality illustrations. A lot of thought was put into what they would contain to best describe what the card represents, but in steam-punk fashion. The book is very easy to read, not too long, but has enough information to understand what you're doing. I have never used tarot cards before purchasing this and think it was great for a beginner. The books covers the difference between Major and Minor Arcana, the different suits, a few types of spreads you can use, and also has at least a page on each individual card.

This deck is so original and highly detailed. I love each card's interpretation and the steampunk theme is elegant rather than punk. I am so pleased with this deck and it's one of the best in my extensive collection. The companion book is also great and gives a page long interpretation of each card as well as advice for beginners. I would recommend this to anyone looking for a high quality and modern tarot deck.

First and foremost if you buy this deck and click on the "cards" option above you DO get both the complete deck of cards AND the full size book. The artwork on these cards is stunning. These are sturdy cards and equal in size. Great deck!

I've been wanting a steampunk tarot deck for years, but for the longest time all I could find was this weird collage one. I don't care for collage art AT ALL. But lo and behold, I search on a whim one day and find this one! It's beautifully illustrated, which is one of the most important things I look for in a deck. Another thing I love is that there are more representation of women in the figures (even the knights!). I am really, very happy with this deck.

This is hands-down my favorite tarot deck of all. I have been reading the tarot for over 23 years and never had such accuracy with any other tarot deck. I am teaching my students how to read with this!

I love Barbara Moore decks. They read like a book for me, without fail. I can always count on her decks for brutal, shocking honesty and this one did not disappoint one bit. I think this may be the most literal reading deck in my collection, hands down. While Steampunk isn't necessarily my genre, which is why I didn't purchase this deck sooner, the artwork is nicely done, interesting, pertinent, and rich. Some of the costumes of the characters are just beautiful (Two of Swords, The Star, The Queens, Ten of Wands) just to name a few. The book is well written, informative and in such a way that feels personal and easily relative just as expected for Ms. Moore's work. I'm so glad that I welcomed this quickly beloved deck into my collection.

Each card is beautiful and highly detailed, and each card has suggestions of the Rider-Waite imagery, while all having a great Steampunk spin on them. The companion book that is included with the deck goes into more detail on the finer points of each image. You can tell the author and artist spent an immense time considering the meaning behind each piece.

I gave it one less star because the imagery is very dark and the deck lacks a box. For the latter, I cut a box included in the package (originally just a spacer box) to fit the deck. And the issue with the former being the cards are often too dark to see without close inspection. It fits the theme and makes the colors richer, but it makes it hard to use for readings, especially in low light conditions.

I own 7 Tarot decks.. everything from the oldest & most traditional Italian to Victorian to wiccan to very modern and now steampunk. I'm usually looking for the resonance of the art with the "core" of the card's meaning. All too often, the books that come with the decks are substandard in that they're just little pamphlets with little soul put into them.

So, I was really delighted by the book that came with this deck. The author's viewpoints really resonated with me. She writes humorous and eloquent descriptions of the concepts of reading tarot, doing some fun spreads and emphasizing the idea of story telling. I would let her read for me any day!!!

The art was nice but very sepia (that's just me - I LOVE bright colors).I've made a satin bag to keep the cards in (as I do for all my decks) and chose some new fabric and ribbon to use as part of my sacred space(purple/white/turquoise). I think it will make a lovely contrast with the sepia.

Thanks again! I look forward to hours of pleasure with my newest deck.

The cards came beautifully (bent but I had not problem with that). Slightly hard to shuffle but that might be a personal issue. My only issue was it might not be the best for a beginner because the book with it is a little confusing to read. It's not like a manual, the author talks to you through out it. With the card explanations, it has a little character story which can make it a bit hard to tell what the card means. I suggest you do get it because the art is wonderful and the book is useful, but just know you will probably have to do some highlighting or note taking to really know what a card is really all about.

The deck is true enough to the Rider Waite symbolism to make this an easy deck for beginners. The book has fantastic information; it is worth the price by itself. The artwork is amazing and really draws you into the cards. Even though I usually prefer a borderless deck, the borders here do not detract from the cards. The reason I have given it a 4 instead of a 5 is because the cardstock is very flimsy and the edges are peeling after less than 6 months' worth of limited use. But, unfortunately poor cardstock and a short deck lifespan is typical of Llewellyn. I am hoping they improve on that. I would happily pay a few dollars more for better quality.

The Knight of Swords, in her 1930's aviator gear, takes a stance that is reminiscent of Katherine Hepburn. The face staring out from the card, however, could belong to Angelina Jolie. The dirigibles emerging from the mists above the mountains in the background are easy to miss as one first scans this intriguing card, but once they have come into focus, they become the central theme of the illustration. In stark contrast to the static figure in the foreground, they simultaneously signal foreboding and attraction.

The epitome of "steampunk," this collaboration between Moore and Fell has produced a tarot deck that almost vibrates in your hands. The layers of esoteric symbolism created by Moore are set in motion by Fell's lush fantasy art. True to the traditional Rider-Waite format, "The Steampunk Tarot" doesn't just reinterpret that set of cards, it grows out of it and takes wing.

While one can easily spend hours looking at the imagery on the cards, it is only when one does readings with them that the depth of the complexity in each card becomes evident. This deck is a treat for everyone, but for the professional card reader it is a special gift. Clients will be fascinated as the secrets of the other side rise from the contradictions within each picture.

Barbara Moore's deck shows not only a strong working knowledge of the tarot but also an enlightened perspective on the cards. The manual is fluid, easy to read and highly engaging. On another level discussion of the cards and their meanings is complex and enhances understanding and interpretation of the tarot. This is not just another decorative deck that has fiddled with the artwork but essentially says the same as any other tarot text or worse is obscure. The Steampunk Tarot offers down-to-earth and practical advice for tarot readers and enthusiasts. The deck itself is mesmerising and truly exquisite - a unique deck that relates well to the core meanings and interpretations of the Rider Waite and other other classic decks.
Unfortunately the cards are a little small and flimsy and may not stand up to the rigours of heavy use.

Received the deck today. I have like 6 other decks and this is the first one I have left a review for. I am very impressed with this deck. I love the artwork, the feel of the cards, very easy to handle and shuffle. I connected right away with this deck. I love it already. The guidebook is just like any other guidebook. 100********'s
