I found myself in turns smiling, laughing and crying. Yes, it's a fun, witty story about celebrity and show biz. But there's more to this book than the plentiful humor. The stories the author tells reveal so much about his path towards self-awareness and acceptance, forgiveness, love and family. It's like eating chocolate that's actually good for you.

Amazing singer with intelligence to match :) Funny, charming and touching. I have been a fan since Star Search. Thank you Sam for persevering and becoming the amazing artist/writer who you have become!

difficult look into the life of singer/actor Sam Harris' life. His truthfulness in his storytelling his heartfelt and left me laughing, crying and wanting to reach into the pages and give him a hug! What a life he has led so far...Ham II, anyone?!

A very descriptive view of growing up and what was expected of us. Lives of others in the world mimic Sam's. He had the guts to put in print for the whole world to see and read. He did what many of us have thought about but didn't go through with it.

TWO THUMBS UP!

I have followed Sam since his days on Star Search and have seen him every time he comes to Tulsa. After seeing him this last time in Tulsa I knew I had to get it. You will not be disappointed. This is a must have for any real Sam Harris fan and as someone who grew up around Sand Springs it hits home.

this was a surprising read... As a parent, i really enjoyed the stories about His childhood, his child and his husband. As someone who has enjoyed his music and humour, I liked the peek behind the celebrity curtain. You dont have to be familiar with Sam Harris' work to enjoy this funny and honest book, but i can almost guarantee you will want to buy his music ir at least go to youtube to see his oprah performance right after reading it. Hoping this is just the first in a series,

Great book. Laughed all the way through it! I grew up gay in rural South Jersey and shared many similar experiences. It's tough when you're fabulous by 10 years old! Especially enjoyed Sam's chapter on "Liver". I'll be re-reading this soon!

Witty, charming, self depricating and sooo insightful! Read this book and be as entertained as if Sam was singing straight to you. His voice rings as true on the page as it does on the stage. You will not be sorry you bought this book!

This is an enjoyable read without too heavy a reliance on narrative. If you are in the mood and enjoy a bit of a ramble, Ham will suffice. I enjoyed the book; though I wondered what it's core thesis really was about.

Sam Harris's HAM is truly mesmerizing and beautifully written. I couldn't put it down. Sam allowed me to peek into his life, with raw, honest, personal antidotes from his heart. I felt every human emotion, from laughing out loud one minute to tears the next. Anyone who has ever felt different will be inspired by Sam's life and how he triumphed over adversity. He writes about the birth of his son Cooper in the last chapter. Tears were flowing, I was a wreck. I didn't want it to end. Sam, more please!

This book has some very funny incidents, but all in all, is quite trite. He meanders from washing machines to liver, with strange opinions on each of them. I guess I am not in touch with his life enough to care what these opinions are.
Not bad passive reading, but not very engrossing.

One of the reviews compared Sam Harris to David Sedaris. Another review said they 'laughed at the first sentence'. I never laughed. Because the book was on clearance--I went a head and purchased it. I didn't realize who Sam Harris was from the cover...and as I was reading I would look on Youtube to see some of the shows he mentioned in the book that were captured on film. Then the lightbulb went on and I realized this is the guy who won Star Search. Since this is a story about him and his life, and TONS of celebratiy name dropping...it can be a little too much. There were moments when I was amused, but I never did laugh. I appreciate his journey from tiny town OK to both coasts. I almost feel bad about not liking the book---but I think it's written for the die hard Sam Harris fans...not the causal reader...and certainly not David Sedaris fans.

This book is so entertaining! Superby written by someone who could be your neighbor. A quick read because you don't want to put it down and can't wait to pick it up again! Is so honest, that you feel as if you know him. Thank you Sam Harris for letting us peek into part of you life! Don't miss this one! You won't be disappointed!

The book started off great, but then felt hurried. It's not the worst thing by far to wish that there was more of it. I did laugh out loud during one essay with regards to pets. Felt like there was some name dropping, but they're the author's friends so who else is he going to mention? I enjoyed it overall.

Each chapter was an essay telling a story about andevent that happened in his life(Sam Harris). I did not know who Sam Harris was when I started reading this book, still don't at this point, and this book doesn't really make me want to know him. Me, Me, Me. Sorry.
