Survival In Auschwitz by Primo Levi (2007-08-20)

While teaching high school English Literature, I thought we needed to read the book instead of an excerpt...
It is amazing how my students reacted... instead of rage they have displayed a loving gesture: they have been taking a minute of silence in the beggining of each of my classes... to remember those who did and did not survive Auschwitz.

I ENJOYED THE READING AND AUTHORS INTROSPECTION of everyone's situation. I'm so glad he included the conversation in prisoners native language. It was a wonderful tool to teach us the handicap of living among so many with different languages. BY THE TIME I HAD READ HALF THE BOOK I WAS ABLE TO FIGURE OUT WHAT THE PHRASE/sentences said. A wonderful read WRITTEN BY A VERY RESILIENT AND LEARNED MAN.

this is about the most vivid description of the camps. the only problem i had was the very poor editorial work with frequent misspellings and/or wrong words or spaces in words where they do not belong. this became distracting at times despite the intensity of the story.

"Survival in Auschwitz" by Primo Levi is an important book for many reasons. It was therefore disappointing to find so many textual errors. This is a careless reprinting and does a disservice to both the author and the first-time reader.

If you wish to understand human nature, "Survival in Auschwitz" is mandatory reading. However, avoid purchasing this edition.

This is an amazing recounting of the Holocaust by one of the survivors. Written in simple yet effective prose, it really paints a picture of the tragedy that took so many lives. not for the young reader

I thought it was a great book that truly depicted the real life in the prison camp, and where the old principal "every man for himself" applies to their ever-day life, and not the myth that they show on TV, where prisoners help each other. The only negative is that this book leaves one somewhat depressed.

Primo Levey stated in his book Drowned and Saved, that the good people[ in the concentration camps ] died and the bad survived. This book is about what he meant. It details the con artists, the black markets , and procedures to avoid the selection for the gassings, woven through the daily misery and drudgery of the lagers.

A gripping story about man's survival in horrible circumstances. How camps were run has been written about by many. How one survives and remain human has not. This is one of the few that yells that story; eloquently.

One of the most powerful book on the argument. Primo Levi describes with an evergreen style his journey to and the daily life in Auschwitz. Did you know that the most recurrent two words in the book are "luck" and "joy"? I found this amazing...

Primo Levi 's book was very thought provoking, cruel, and true. One of the best books on the holocaust and an easy read. There is no better way to learn than from a primary source, and this book is certainly that and more. A must read.

Primo Levi gives a very interesting and worth reading account of his experiences in the holocaust. I had to read this for a College history class, but I would like reading this on my own. I won't spoil the book, but Primo has some interesting experiences that are different from other survivors accounts I have read. The reason I gave this four stars and not five is because the printed text in my copy is small and splotchy, which makes it difficult to read.
