One of the clearest instructions on self realization from an Advaita master. Readers will quickly realize the remarkable depth, eloquence and clarity in his answers, which are beyond the mind, coming from an unfathomable source, the pure consciousness itself. My deepest, heartfelt gratitude to Sri Nisargadatta Maharaj for showing the way.

Without a doubt, one of the finest spiritual books I have ever read. In over 500 pages of dialogue between an enlightened master and people from every walk of life, Nisargadatta expounds on how to become One with the Unmanifest Source of Being.

Our home is filled with books, especially books of a spiritual nature. I am on my fourth reading of the book. Every read takes me deeper and deeper into "Self." Reality is exposed in all its bliss and glory. To experience who we are, it takes sincerity and earnestness. "I Am That" effortlessly and powerfully prepares you for your blossoming.

Nisargadatta's instructions are simple. Start with "I am" and let go of everything else. "Be clear and quiet - alert and detached, all else will happen by itself." (pg.397). Titling the book "I Am That" is ironic since you aren't whatever is implied by "That". You just are.

It's this zen-like dilemma that the book focuses on. The writing is so simple to read and the content so complex that you have to step back from it every so often to let yourself absorb the message. The irony continues, because the message is that you don't need the words, the books, the gurus. Awareness of oneself suffices.

If Krishnamurti invokes curiosity, Nisargadatta invokes awareness. The two are directly linked and Nisargadatta refers to Krishnamurti as a fellow realized being several times. Both are staunchly against gurus and ask not to be worshiped or followed.

I keep reading and reading, but know in my heart that once the instructions are heard, they simply must be followed.

"The most important book in the world" That is quite a statement. Particularly for someone in his late sixties that has been reading all his life. Nisargadatta comes as close to helping us find our way back as anything I've ever read. I have read this book cover to cover many times and I still cruise through it weekly to remind me of my real search in life.

There are life changing lessons within these pages. "I Am That" can change you forever. If you have been on the path of "non-duality" and have been doing your learning, this book needs to be apart of your library. I started my usual underlining and noting each "nice" snippet, but gave it up as every word is such a blessing.

It's a page turner... I devoured this book,,, nodding, smiling, giggling, saying "Yes, yes yes!

What Maharaj teaches is something so simple, not relating to any religion but to just life itself in general as one. This is a spiritual path worth taking. Like he mentioned you have interest into what you are seeking, inquire ceaselessly into the I
Am and realize that what you are not. This book has opened new dimensions into how I perceive this life. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!

I highly recommend this book. It is, as the cover states, a modern spiritual classic.

Before buying this book, I read through every review on this book here on the store.com and now I know how right they all are. If you are ready to commit suicide, then go ahead and read this book; because, much before you finish this book your consciousness will transmute everything into itself, and you as a person (I.e. mind - ego and thoughts) won't exist anymore. Pure joy, pure non-suffering, pure love will be your state of being
