A very important book for our times. Leopold's message is to this day still being ignored by this country's power-brokers.
Beautifully written classic. A must-read for high school students and should be part of the curriculum.

Aldo Leopold had a way of seeing, appreciating, and writing ,in an almost lyrical manner, about the simple things of life that are all around us, but so many of us fail to see. His love of nature shines out of this little book on every page.

Quite simply this book should be universally required reading in every 10th grade class. Then ,to reinforce its message, likewise in the college senior year.

The copy I received, to replace my old one, had dried out binding yet was listed as, I believe, like new. or something of the sort. .

Unless you normally tap strangers on the shoulder and say, "Listen to this!" consider yourself forewarned. I have twice read A Sand County Almanac in public places and both times have found myself looking up, hoping to make eye contact with someone who might be amenable to my reading them sections of this book.

It is beautiful, it is transporting, it is inspiring.

With a prose that transcends time, this thoughtful book about the environment is worth several reads. The "Land Ethic" is perhaps the most important concept of this book. Leopold presents this ethical concept in the most articulate and timeless way. All environmental laws find a moral compass in Leopold's ethic. In the evolution of man's relationship to the planet these ideas are the light in the dark. One of my favorite all time books.

As the world gets more and more chaotic, polluted, troubled, and unsustainable; we can find some degree of solace in books such as , "A Sand County Almanac". Having read it numerous times, it rings true today as it did many years ago. Timeless treasure.

I bought this book for my fiance, and he absolutely adores it. Considering that it was written in the 1940s, it is an incredibly relevant must- read for anyone who is interested in the relationship between humans and the natural world. The book consists of natural historical elements, commentary on the changing seasons, and the author's own observations/philosophies on ecology from his farm in Wisconsin. Great illustrations too! Overall, a nice edition that is portable enough for a backpacking trip.

In reading this, you will immediately lose yourself in Dr. Leopold's writing. You will manage to enjoy his description of wilderness landscapes, yet agonize over the realization that many of the creatures he thought would be extirpated were. That part of your soul that connects with flora and fauna will feel empty, both with the promise of a new discovery on your next adventure and at the prospect of losing the places you admire.

I was assigned this as part of my wildlife management course. At first, I had trouble getting through his imagery to the content. But what I found when I did was an inspiring way of thinking. He brings a worldview that, in the least, had me questioning my own. If not changing it entirely. Well worth the read.

I don't go outdoors much, let alone closely observe it. My allergies keep me in. So seeing nature through Aldo Leopold's eyes is truly a wonder. And my very outdoorsy husband becomes rapturous, transported!

Leopold sets the definition of natural resource stewardship. This book to me is more than a compelling case for sustanable land management, it encompasses a way of thinking and code of behaviour for a life of service to Mother Earth. A Sand County Almanac is unque in its place on the cusp between a pre-modern paradigm of living off the land, the agrarian values generated by a real dependence on the land for survival and livelihood, and the twentieth century shift towards a science of natural resource managment.

Bought this for my son's birthday. So delighted when it arrived earlier than I had thought it would. It is a beautiful book. Those that really enjoy the outdoors - especially hunting - will enjoy this book.

This is amazing. My introduction to Aldo changed my life. If you're a hunter, an anti-hunter or any type of outdoor enthusiast consumptive or non. This is a must read! This should be suggested reading for any classroom on ecology. Land Ethic, Wow !

One of my all-time favorites. Written by the father of wildlife management, it's a must-read for anyone who hunts, fishes, watches birds or just enjoys being in the outdoors. A classic that ranks with Silent Spring and Walden.

A Sand County Almanac takes the spirit of Thoreau's Walden and translates into modern, pragmatic language. Leopold's "Land Ethic" is the basic principle on which all responsible conservation action should take place. The "Ecological Conscience" which forms from affinity with the land is a key to human health, as well as ecological harmony. If you want to read one book about what living in harmony with nature is, this is it.

Beautiful, thoughtful, sensitive book about an area of the country which is familiar to me. I was especially interested in his description of the native prairie which is no more. It makes the restored prairie in the Chicago Botanic Garden more meaningful..

Really appreciated his love of the land and of all things natural. His writing style is warm and clear. I would like to have known him. He would have been an ideal neighbor. I almost forgave him being a hunter.

classic in the field of environmental ethics and land conservation; beautifully written by a Yale Forestry School graduate who was a hunter and fisherman as well as a biologist and creator of the now famous and entirely pragmatic Land Ethic; "ethics is the union of sensibility and science" he says
