I started reading this book based on the reviews. Once I started reading I realized.. It's not for adults.. it's for young teens and it did not like the cliches, and the "whatever" attitudes.. I finished reading it hoping it would leave me hanging. and it did. Not because it was "OMG GOOD!" but because it was almost like a trainwreck that I couldn't look away from. *cries*

The book is going good and then the next chapter is like a 2nd book. It goes back and forth for a while then ends. Nothing was tied together. It's a good thing it was free or I would ask for my money back.

PART 1: I am about a third of the way through Airel, I am just not feeling it. The story keeps going back and forth between the life of a teenage girl and the story of angels at 1250 BC.. it's sort of confusing and it interrupts the flow of the book. I enjoy the authors style, and the parts of the book that are in 1250 BC are interesting and they flow well, then you are transported back to present day Idaho on the next page. Airel feels really immature to me, she is sort of whiny in her own mind and the teenage angst is a little much. I don't like to not finish a book so I will continue to read Airel in the hopes that it starts to grip me and make a little more sense.

Just so you know me, I am fairly easy to please...not overly critical and usually willing to believe.
However, it truly is hard to get past some of the things that just didn't make sense.
I did enjoy reading the story though so I gave it 3 starts.

Like many other reviewers I was very frustrated by the lack of explanation and the abrupt ending. I really dislike it when a book in a series can't stand alone. I just finished it and I'm at a loss as to what I just read. Could have been great, but overall a disappointing read.

I was drawn by the cover, to be honest, and I started reading it, at first I thought it would be a way-too-many-times-told kind of story. The authors would have laughed if they could have seen my face as I kept going and going without being able to stop myself! The double story telling, the characters, the fights, the surprises!! Everything told to perfection! As I read I could feel I was there seeing it, because of the perfect descriptions. I felt, I think, every possible emotion while reading this book.
The only fact I didn't like was that I have to wait so long for the second book to come out!

The idea of the book is great but I hated how superficial Airel 's voice was. It became very annoying and predictable. The only thing that saved it from not getting a one star is the other narrative explaining "something". Definitely not wasting money or time reading the rest of this series.

The book is definitely written for young women. But being a little older I was still able to keep interested. Enough so that I bought book 2 "Michael" and will probably buy book 3 when it comes out. A nice mix of modern and old world fantacy.

Could be an interesting story, but the writing isn't all that great. The writer has a good concept, and if you can trudge through the heavy handed writing, then you might find it intriguing. I wouldn't pay money for the second at this point.

Airel (The Airel Saga, Book 1)
Dear Mr Patterson,
I would like my money back. It could be a good book. It could be a GREAT book. But you need to take some of the money you've been raking in to hire an editor, because clearly this book has not even heard of an editor, let alone been in the presence of one. SO many more people read YA fiction now than simply teens, and even teenagers are discerning readers. My point? Nobody enjoys reading badly-phrased, cliched, shallow writing, even if the plot is interesting.
Sincerely,
Disappointed and Disgruntled.

I read this book in about a 3 day time frame off and on through out the day. Sometimes it was hard to set it down and cook supper. I give this book an A+.If you are trying to find a book that keeps you wanting more i would highly recommend it.

I got the sample for this book and then decided I wanted to find out what was going on with Airel so I purchased. The flip flopping between present day and BC was confusing and in my opinion pointless really. The book, while interesting to see what was happening with Airel, was not at all what I expected. One of the reviews said "move over Twilight", I'd HARDLEY compare this book with the Twilight saga which was far superior in story line and writing!

I have just finished the book. Doubt I'd read the next one. Airel seems very shallow and simple. I found it pretty hard to like her. Speaking as someone who has been a teenage girl and head-over-heels in love, i couldn't relate to her at all. Didn't care much for any of the characters. Written by a couple of guys who have no idea about being a teenage girl. I wouldn't have paid to read this one.

The love story in this book sucked. They are suppose to be so inlove and yet they haven't even kissed.
The History of the Angels was ok but the modern day story just didn't come together.
I would bypass this book. I feel like I waisted my money buying it.

This story was a slog to get through. The beginning was rather engrossing but once the heroine showed some development, it became painful to continue. Here we have a privileged girl who has supernatural powers and the point is driven home again and again about how much more beautiful she becomes. Who cares about the other awesome powers when she has the power of being model-gorgeous. The beauty factor is mentioned so often that I mourn any self-conscious young girl who reads this. The stereotypical annoying-but-too-cool-for-the-room best friend left my head scratching about how the two could possibly be friends. The love interest is a shallow lust interest with no chemistry. The backstory scenarios were the only parts I didn't skim through to finish the story. For a free Prime membership read, this was a waste of time.

I bought the whole set, but I needed to leave a review after just one "book". There's not much plot to this, probably because the author wants you to buy the other books in the series. This was divided between modern day and 1250 BC, which made it dis-jointed. The modern day parts were typical girl-meets-boy-and-falls-hard. The past bits were gross, and I was starting to believe the author swallowed a thesaurus. Some of the descriptive words were so obscure, I had to look them up. I will read the rest of the series and hope it gets better.

I did enjoy this book. As far as the technical aspects of this story go, there were very little errors (a couple of punctuation things here and there, but nothing that would detract from the story) and there were a few times throughout that the story would change from third person to first person and then back again with the next chapter. That itself can be a little irritating, but it’s still the same story; we just get “I” instead of “she”.
Throughout the book we are actually following two storylines. That of Airel and that of Kreios. Airel is a 17-year-old high school student who says she wants to be “normal” but really it seems that she is bucking the system to be an individual. I honestly wasn’t able to get a strong grasp on her character. She wasn’t poorly written and, truthfully, teenagers themselves are hard to understand. So having a teenage character that really doesn’t fit into one mold isn’t too far-fetched. There were times when I felt she was witty and truly an individual and then there were times where she came across ditzy and unaware of things. As for her immediate obsession with Michael, I am hoping that as the series continues we will understand why it is she is so strongly drawn to him. To me it seemed there was something more lurking along the edges of this story that we just weren’t being told.
Kreios is a fallen angel. He gave up everything to be with the mortal woman that he fell in love with. That carefully crafted life is shattered when his wife dies in child-birth. The story we follow is him trying to get his daughter to the safety of a hidden city. There is The Brotherhood (they are demons who I am going to guess hunt fallen angels – we aren’t given a lot to go on). Now, based on the information given I know that the stories of Kreios and Airel are intertwined and after reading this book you can safely guess how it is they are intertwined, but the story doesn’t tell you outright.
Personally my favorite character was Kim. She reminded me of so many friends I had in high school. She’s bubbly, over-enthusiastic, probably couldn’t keep a secret to save her life, and but she is probably the most loyal friend you will ever have.
I think this was a good beginning to the series. Not fantastic, but definitely not horrible. I felt like a lot of time was spent on things that weren’t important and less time was spent on things that were vitally important. Perhaps this was just a teaser. The authors give you just enough information to make you want more. There’s a fine line to be walked there though. If you don’t give the reader enough information they are going to be frustrated and just give up on the whole idea. In my opinion we could have been given just a little more. But, I will be checking out the rest of the books in this series, but the amount of information I was given was just enough to make me curious.
I hope that the link between Airel and Kreios is fully revealed and connected at some point soon. Why is she so drawn to Michael? Is there more to him than meets the eye?

I thoroughly enjoyed this read. This is book one in the Airel Saga and I will absolutely be getting the next few books soon.
Airel is just your average teenage girl. That is, until the new guy Michael Alexander shows up. Ever since she laid eyes on him Airel’s body has been acting strange. It’s as if she has known Michael her entire life. She gets physically ill whenever she is near him and has somehow obtained the ability to heal herself quickly.
While at the movies with Michael, she witnesses a murder. The murderer then begins to stalk her and leaves her a chilling message in her mail box, I know what you are. Airel has no idea what he means by this, but is determined to figure out why this man is following her and what he knows about her.
Airel has started to hear pages turning in the back of her mind. She describes it as having an invisible friend, but the pages turning are telling the ancient story of a family of warriors in Egypt.
Super interesting read that was a great introduction to what I hope will continue to be an exciting story about Airel.

I originally read this well over two years ago before I started reviewing and I loved it, I always intended to continue on and read the whole series but after the first two I kept checking for 'Michael' and eventually forgot. I mention the first time I read this because I loved it and if I'd have reviewed it at the time I would have given 5 stars, I've just downloaded the whole series, which at $1.29 is incredible value and since it been so long I started at the beginning and I was surprised to discover that I didn't enjoy it anywhere near as much as I'd expected, now you could argue that I knew what was going to happen and yes you'd be right but Airel annoyed me, a lot. I'm sure why this happened this time and not before, I read a lot more these days in fact I read all the time so maybe my tolerance level has changed but I don't remember her irritating me before.
Airel is your average seventeen year old girl, her best friend is Kim and on the whole they're happy but then Airel starts to feel unwell, a gorgeous new boy, Michael starts at school and Airel suspects that she's not normal.
The other part of this book which weaves itself between the modern tale is set in 1250 B.C. in Arabia where Kreios is an angel who found himself in love with a mortal and 'fell' only to lose the woman he loved in childbirth leaving him with a daughter to protect from the evil forces of the Brotherhood.
This all sounds fantastic and I've struggled to understand what didn't really work for me this time and it comes back to Airel, I didn't really feel any real spark or chemistry between her and Michael and some of the decisions she made were 'interesting' at best and that was the problem she's seventeen and 'normal' yet she takes everything on herself. So I liked the 'past' more than the present because I didn't really buy Airel as a real character.

I received a copy of this novel in exchange for an honest review.
I’ve read several versions of “angel” paranormal literature, both young adult and adult, and they all have one thing in common—complexity. I suppose complicated plots in this subgenre is typical because of the various religious beliefs and doctrines involving God and His divine creations, and reconciling the existing tales with a creative new plot cannot be easy, but sometimes the convoluted maze loses the reader, especially when the story isn’t fully revealed. I’m afraid Airel falls into that category for me.
The novel centers—at first—on the story of Airel, and I quite enjoyed her story. She’s the typical “I don’t belong” teen, struggling with her identity and insecurities. The writing was smooth, easy-to-read, and I zoomed through these sections; however, the complication begins with the third POV chapters about 35 percent into the novel. When the story becomes split between Kreios and Airel, the frustration began. I enjoyed (mostly) Kreios’s story, and it’s clear the storylines will merge in some way later; however, the writing was so different with his chapters. Kreios’s chapters were as intricate as Airel’s are informal. While the words battled for dominance, chasing each other in a labyrinth of description, I lost my interest somewhat. I wonder how teen readers will deal with that?

Although Airel by Aaron Patterson and Chris White is listed on the store in the YA (Young Adult) genre, this book was quite appealing to me. My instincts were correct, and I was beyond pleasantly surprised with this book. The protagonist, Airel, at first appears to be the typical teen. Airel begins to encounter problems in her life that become quite atypical and dramatic and the reader quickly discovers (along with Airel) that things are not what they seem. A love interest is introduced and it was very fun for me to feel young innocent love again when I was immersed in Airels perspective on life and love. This book has a strong supernatural element (angels and demons) but is not done in a way that glorifies the demonic realm. Airel's story runs concurrent with a story in the past that has great impact on her life and becomes an integral part of the outcome. I don't want to give away any spoilers, but Patterson and White have taken an interesting spin in this book on the Nephilim topic that Christians love speculating about. If you are looking for a clean, fast-paced, and engrossing book for yourself or for your teen, I highly suggest this book. My teenager was very impatient for me to finish it so that she could have it. This is a great alternative to the Twilight series, as it presents a good message intertwined with an interesting topic. I highly recommend this entertaining book.

Far be it from me to be the only one in the publishing universe not to mention how gorgeous the cover of "Ariel" is! So dense and mysterious, the consummate lonely and emotionally injured, beautiful young girl, dressed in black, yet holding a pure, white feather... A lot of symbolism and "telling" on the cover of a novel, once again. So, we actually can tell a book by its cover...
This book is one that marks a ribbon-cutting moment for me. I traditionally find books written by two authors to be a consciousness mishmash that tries to be cohesive. I frankly avoid them. To me, they generally fall into the category of authors trying to write sequels to dead author's books. Gives me shivers! "Ariel" is an exception to this prejudice I've held. May make me rethink that prejudice.
These men are so acutely aware of each other's writing style that the book flows pretty much without a snag. There is much eloquence in their protagonist "Ariel's" thoughts, a depth of understanding of women, a rendering of an anti-hero who is daunting.
While I have difficulty, as well, reading anything about "fallen angels," the situation and story was dealt with essentially in a manner that didn't completely stretch it to the demonic extreme. These characters, both good and evil were believable and within the realm of the possible.
Because the worlds were well imagined, it was easy to follow the story after a bit of an early slow start. Sometimes, in books of this type, it takes a little time to move into the imaged worlds and character consciousness. Because much of the dialog is in the mind of Ariel...we experience a different sort of reading process.
This is a book young adults will enjoy and carry around this fall and winter, I think. Once they put it down, I recommend picking it up for a couple of nights of guilty reading. It's really good.

Why I read it: First of all let me say that the cover of this book is gorgeous. That alone intrigued me. The synopsis for this story seemed interesting. I had seen it on the store and wanted to give it a try.
What I liked: I really liked that there were two stories going on at the same time. The book would go between present day to 1250 B.C. Both stories seemed to be separate from each other yet connected. I liked Kreios. A strong warrior who just happened to be one of the Sons of God, an angel. It is his story that is told along with Airel's. Airel is a normal teenage girl who loves her coffee. Her life seems to set out on a course of change the moment she meets Michael Alexander. He is the new guy that draws Airel in. She starts to notice that her skin is becoming clear of blemishes, she heals rather quickly, and her hair needs little prep. She doesn't quite understand all the changes but it all becomes clear to her by the end. She has to question the things she has accepted as truth and the people in her life. Airel is something special.
What I didn't like: Although I liked the story I found myself becoming bored with so much story telling. I like the characters to engage a little bit more. A lot of what is learned throughout the story comes from the thoughts of the characters and not their interaction with each other. The story seemed a bit long to me because of this reason. I wanted to read it and see how it all played out but I found my mind wandering as the characters were telling me things that were happening. Another thing that bothered me was Michael and Airel. Throughout the story Airel is going on about Michael being her one true love. I just didn't buy it. Yeah I know she kept telling me, the reader, but I never truly saw it.
As I was reading there were a few things that irked me and I have explained that already. But after finishing the book I look back and see that I liked the story. It has the classic good vs. evil vibe going on. Also the author rewarded me for the time I put into reading this book by giving a great twist at the end of the story. I must say I didn't see it coming. I do recommend this story but I do caution the reader to be prepared for a lot of storytelling.

Men - think they know what women think. Pffft. Whatever!! Let's see how this one turns out. Hmm. Interesting, not bad. Heh heh, I've done that. Yeah, hee hee. Bwa ha ha ha ha!!!!! Wait, this was written by two men?
Yes, that's what I thought as I scurried through the first few pages of Airel. Then I got really involved and I finished it in two days. And it's a good inch and a half - several hundred pages of a read. My eyes throbbed by the time I was done.
So let's get down to basics: this was a fun, touching, clean (well, if you don't count the blood and gore - there's no sex or foul language), interesting, new, likeable, engaging, dramatic, comedic, sad, action packed book! Enough adjectives for you? Let me continue - bold, raw, adventurous, emotional, sweet, lovely, endearing first book! Right, you get the picture.
Written well, this book is everything I just described and more. Patterson & White certainly don't have hundreds of books on their resume, but they will because their tale is so attractive that one simply must finish when started. And that is the mark of a good storyteller. Why do I use the word storyteller? They conjure the mystical and pull that extra magic out of the air, weaving it through their audience, making it a part of them forever. That is what Patterson & White do, & they do it well.
They have written another book to succeed Airel. It is called Michael and I am eagerly awaiting it's publication date: May 17, 2012.
By the way - I've read some of these "reviewer's" comments - specifically the ones that wrote 2-1 stars. To begin, I'd like to say that a "waste of time" is not spelled "waist" - that's the thing around your stomach. Your credibility is completely thrown out the window when you can't at least spell basic words. You'd be forgiven if it was something hard like
ANTIDISESTABLISHMENTARIANISM but waste? Come on! And for those who have never experienced love at first sight, it does exist and it's more than just looks. Right! I'm climbing off my soapbox now.
Excellent job, Mr. Patterson & Mr. White - excellent!

Airel is a YA fantasy of epic proportions! Not to mention it has a fantastic cover! It's not your typical fallen angel story (I know, most people say that, but it's true!). For one, this story is written by two men writing the POV (point of view) from a female teenager for most of the book. It also has varying points of views from several different characters including the best friend, the ancient warriors from an earlier time, and the personification of evil. Aaron and Chris do a tremendous job pulling this story together. It is well written and the imagery is fantastic -- vivid and alive!
I will admit it is a lengthy read, but it is split into multiple "books" within the one novel. It will definitely hold your attention and is full of fascinating characters and is an excellent read. The story and the narrator, Airel, will draw you right into their world and bring you along for the ride. Surprisingly, there is not a lot of dialogue. Although, personal insight into individual thought is abundant, and it works extremely well also adding to the uniqueness of this book. We follow Airel as she starts to experience some odd changes and she struggles to figure out what is happening to her.
Airel is a great character and is still discovering who she is and what her purpose might be almost up until the end. Michael, the new guy, is also a fascinating character; complex and intriguing and will keep you questioning as to his part in this saga. The evil in this story is also quite descriptive (`eww! factor'). However, throughout the book there are great (yet not overdone) positive messages of hope, faith, strength of character, and the power of love.
I can't wait to see how more of this story unfolds in future novels. I definitely recommend this novel to anyone, especially if you like fallen angels.

Thank you NetGalley and Aaron Patterson!
What a gorgeous cover. It begs to be read, and I'm glad I did.
Airel begins with a main character leading a normal life. High school, teenage angst, all the nice things that go together in the beginning.
In the spirit of trying to keep this review spoiler free, I'll say that the author did a great job of weaving together a tale from flashback to moderate day, past lives and current lives, and then at once all things become clear. The story comes together and makes sense. You can finally see where the author and the characters were going.
This novel is about love, life, death, all knitted nicely to deliver a wonderful message. And the ending...oh my goodness.
This was a past paced, thrilling read and had my attention from beginning to end.
For fans of the Fallen series, you'll want to snatch this one up.

I get that this is a four part book but I was not impressed with the way it was written or where it was going.I liked the double story thing and I loved the basic story line.It was a very intriguing idea but I think it should have been written by women instead of men. The writters described Airel as being very superficail when it came to Micheal and it drove me insane. She was a very down to earth character which not a lot of YA female characters are but she quickly lost my approvel points as a female lead when she fell in love with him at fist sight .It was pure physical apperence znd no chemistry between the two.The were in LUST NOT LOVE.They used almost every cheesey line known to man(haha) in the book it was kind of sicking to think that a lot of men think that women fall for that.
I finished this one and I tried the second one because I wanted a few anwsers and to see if I could get into the story a little bit and I couldn't force my self to finish it.Over all I think this story has a lot of potential but I would pass if you want a really good original YA series.

I love this book. To start with, the book cover was gorgeous! As soon as I started reading Airel, mixture of history, romance and angels, with two stories going on at the same time, one in present day Idaho and Arabia in 1250BC, I didn't want to put the book down. All the characters were so believable and beautiful. I recommend this book for all ages.
Aaron and Chris, both with a gift for the written word did a great job on the cover and book that is definitely worthy of 5 stars. I know you will fall in love with Airel and Michael and will be waiting to read other books by the duo.

I wasn't sure what to think when I first opened this book, but was soon lost in the captivating story of Airel. There were so many amazing things about this novel that I loved, but the unique double story line blew me away. I found it was a brilliant mix of past and present, and I couldn't decide which story I was eager to read more. As I came to each one, the excitement only continued to build.
The separate worlds were rich and engaging, the scenery breathtaking and so very real. I felt the lightness of hand was perfectly executed while still connecting us to two completely different spell-binding worlds. Pure genius; both in imagination and delivery.
I cannot wait to read the sequel Michael!

This was a great start to a new series. I was engaged from the beginning of the story and even in the flashbacks to learn about the family history I didnt get lost or confused or bored. The story is well written with good characters and a complex but ease to follow and understand history.
You have two stories within the book. That of Airel and Michael in present day and that of Kreios an ancient warrior back thousands of years in the past. Learning about these characters and how the two story lines come together is an engrossing read that I didnt want to put down.
While the book is technically classified as YA, it can easily be read and enjoyed by readers of all ages and I am looking forward to the sequel Michael to come out to find out what happens next.

Ariel was a surprisingly well done story about a young woman written by two male authors. They did a great job creating a believable and engaging character. This is really two stories in one. Ariel in the present day with strange occurrences happening after meeting a new mysterious boy at school, and the world of 1250 BC which somehow connects the two worlds. It was a good addition to the recent trend of paranormal young-adult romance. It won't re-invent the genre but was quite enjoyable. The two main characters are well done and likeable, making you want to continue to see what happens to them both.
I received a free copy of this book from the publisher in exchange for an honest review.

Ok I have read a lot of fallen angel stories, but....none like this. So where to start?
Well first I just have to say the cover is breathtaking, absolutely amazing! I know that you shouldn't judge a book by it's cover, and all that blah blah blah....but I mean come on!! You have to admit it calls to you. lolz
But whats waiting behind that cover? Well lets continue on shall we?
Airel is just an average highschool girl. Living an average life. Trying to stay out of the limelight of popularity at school. At times feeling ackward, and confused as most teenage girls do. Although I do have to say she is less niave than most girls her age. She knows that falling for a boy, and becoming hopelessly in love will only hurt her in the end. She's smart in that way, and I heart her for it. In the end though, no matter how hard you try, no matter how old you are, love knows no boundaries. Love conqures all. It makes you fall first, and ask questions later. She was supposed to just be a job for Micheal....is it possible Airel isn't the only one who is gonna feel the fall-out from loves wrath? When the battle wages, and loves sinks it's teeth into you, the question is are you willing to die for it?
We must all die, before we can live.....if only we really understood how true that is.
This book takes you through a journey. I love how you not only get the present day story of Airel, but you also get the story behind the story. The flashbacks, and different points of view make this all the more interesting. At first everything seems kinda detached. Like story A, doesn't quite line up with story B, but them BAM all the pieces fall into place, your heart starts to pull from your chest, and the ending....OMG the ending. There is the YA stories of young love, we've all read them. We've all even fallin for them. We've sat on the edge of of seat, white knuckle gripping the book, while the lovers fight side by side. We have cried for them. This book left me to stunned to cry. It went beyond that. What if I told you not only does love have no boundaries, but it was so strong it could cross the enemy line of a war that as been raging since the great fall? Can a love really be the tie that binds the side of GOD with the side of Evil?
Or will mortal enemies remain mortally damaged.....
Nope, nope I've already said to much. Now go run along a grab yourself a copy!

Okay so I am not a huge Angel story kind of person but I agreed to review this book so I thought I would give it a try. I found it to be a decent read, although I am not a huge fan of flashing back between the past and the present. Sometimes I seem to get lost in what was happening in the past but my favorite parts were what was happening to Airel in the present, not her ancestors in the past.
Airel is pretty much your typical teen who has a awesome best friend Kim, who was my favorite character. When Airel meets Micheal she starts feeling sick all of the time but she doesn't understand why, also her skin starts clearing up. She goes from looking like a typical teen to a model in just days and she doesn't understand why, some other things happens to her and she has no clue what is going on.
She witnesses a murder and has a creepy guy stalking her and all sorts of things will happen to her as the book progresses but I can't tell you what. Airel is a fairly strong character and it was surprising to find that two male authors wrote this book about a girl.
Micheal is a hot, sexy guy who shows up to school one day and turns Airel's world upside down in more ways than one. They have a instant attraction to each other but Airel still gets a bit conflicted about him. Sometimes he looks like he is in love, then its like a mask comes over his face and he won't let it show. Their is a good reason for this that you will find out towards the end if you don't figure it out while your reading. I think he might get to redeem himself in the second book as it is called Micheal. I am a little curious to know more about him.
Over all I think if angel books are your thing that you would really like this book. I liked the first half more than the last half, but over all I think I will still check out the second book because I like Micheal and would like to know more about him.

There was a lack of believability in terms of Airel & Michael falling in love. The story also jumped around too much, so it often felt choppy in the directional changes the plot was taking. After all, if (spoiler alert) granddad was this powerful being, why bring Michael to the "secret lair"? And for that matter, one semi-date and a few flirtatious, you're madly in love? Just too much, cookie-cutter plot inserts.
LASTLY....
Did I think the female POV was well represented? No. As other authors have proven, females are strong and capable.
Will I read Book 2? No.

I first heard about this book when I was contacted by a publicist for Aaron Patterson. I looked up the book, and when I saw the cover, I immediately responded to the email. I was excited when the book finally came in the mail. The first thing I did... Okay, the second (Oooing and Awwing over the cover was first) was jump to a random page and look at the writing style. I have received a couple of books that I refused to review due to the unprofessional-ism of the writing, but this book went into the READ pile.
Although school and work kept me from getting to this book, I finally had time yesterday. It took a couple chapters for me to get into the book, but once I did, I became upset with having to attend classes and not being able to take the time to finish Airel. But I did, and now I am sad that the second book is not out yet. So in otherwords, I greatly enjoyed this book!
I have to compliment the author. It takes guts for a man to not only take the POV of a woman, but to take the role of a teenage girl. As I was reading the book, I was realizing that if I were Airel, I would be having the same thoughts. As for the character herself, she was very well thought out. I wish there had been a little bit more romance between her and Michael, but overall it was good. There were many scenes that I didn't see coming, and that doesn't happen very often to me. I only have one complaint, and that is that there was an overuse of hyphens. There were many parts that could have been separate sentences or had commas used instead.
But other than that, I loved this book. I wish the second book was out already!

So, yeah, made it to 5% (start of chapter 5) without anything happening or the the characters engaging--in fact, the story was redundant, the writing was just south of mediocre and the characters were actually pretty repulsive. I'm pretty sure an 85-year-old misogynist could more realistically portray a teen girl than the author managed to.

This author clearly does not understand the female perspective nor what goes on in the mind of a teenager. The writing was so trite and so cliched I couldn't even get through the entire sample. The character development is really poor and just within the first chapter the main character makes several conflicting statements. Just because it is "young adult" doesn't mean it doesn't need to be well written.

when I first started reading I thought okay just another girl/boy but I loved the part where it went back in time and I am looking forward to the next book a great day off sitting on the sofa read and totally hadn,t realised I had come to the end guess I had better download the 2nd it,s my first review on here as I feel that everyone has different tastes and when I read a review I myself usually am swayed by comments on if it has lots of typing errors etc. which is rich coming from my own bad spelling. I enjoyed it end of story x

What would you do for love ?
This is a story of love in many of its forms; the pain, the healing and the redemption of love.
I thought the book was well written and the two stories brought together to create a ending full of suspense.
This is my first fallen angel book and I only bought it because of a recommendation on GeekMum. I read the book in 2 days,so it has plenty of suspense and the authors keep the pace the going, making it easy to keep reading.
The book explained enough about fallen angels for me to understand the plot without going into too much detail. Yes there is lots of fire and brimstone and heavenly hordes but this is a book about angels and demons so that's part of the scenery. To believe in the power and love of angels then you need to first believe in heaven and hell.
For me there was a bit too much action and not enough emotion and half way through the book I wondered if it might have been more interesting for Michael to have been the grandson of the angel and Airel to have been the human. Then at the end I thought it was Kim who had saved Airel and I was looking forward to how their relationship would have developed and whether Airel would or could fight Michael.
I recommend this book for it's flair, vision and quality of writing.

I read Airel as I liked Twilight and a review had said, "Move over Twilight!" Not so true. Airel's biggest weakness is its inability to give the reader enough plot line so that the reader understands where the story is going and can enjoy that ever increasing sense of story as it builds upon itself and takes the reader along. Instead, Airel is written like a thriller with fantasy elements such as fallen angels rather than vampires, and dominated by a constant sense of anxiety and dread. This makes sense as "Airel" is co-authored by two writers: one writes thrillers and the other is more of a generalist. While this kind of suspense is a key attribute of thrillers, it is tedious in other genres. Airel is a case in point.
Long story short: Airel is dull, disappointing and overly long.

I have had this fascination with fallen angel stories lately and I just love them. I expected Airel to be similar to most of the fallen angel stories I've read but it is nothing like those except that it is about a fallen angel. This was such a unique twist to the common way angels are portrayed. There are two stories going on through most of the book that are woven together at the end.
First you have the story set in present day Boise, ID where an average high school girl Airel is just living her normal life when suddenly hot new boy enters and she catches the love bug! The second story is about the fallen angel Kreios dated back in 1250 BC and his struggles with losing his wife and then the battles of the Brotherhood. In Part 1 of this book having the 2 separate stories going on was a bit hard to follow but you instantly were connected to the lives of Kreios and Airel.
One of the things I liked most about this story is the main character Airel. The authors nailed a typical teenage girl with the glimpses they give us of being inside her head. I love how we see in to her mind, because it is pretty hilarious in there. There were so many quotes I loved, here is a favorite: "Sometimes I watched all the popular girls, wondering if they actually had brains or if they just ran on batteries, plugging in at night to charge their ever-so-perfect personalities. No bitterness here!"
There wasn't a whole lot of dialogue in this story; most of it is coming from the minds of the characters. This was a new way to read a story, I did enjoy it, although at times I wished there was more conversations going on. You get to see in the minds of Airel, of Kreios, and of a killer. The struggle between good and evil is the forefront of this great story!
The ending was the best! I was a bit frustrated at how things were going and wasn't sure I'd like the way it ended but the authors sure pulled out the big stuff for an ending that leaves you begging for the next book!
I loved the message that is being taught; "you don't need a man to love you and make you special, you are special because you are you...see and believe you are one of God's children; that's what makes you special."
Great YA fantasy that I highly recommend to those that love the fallen angel stories like Hush, Hush and others alike.
I received this book free from PUYB for my honest opinion and review. I would not recommend this book if I didn't enjoy it!

I REALLY enjoyed the mixed Kreios and Airel stories! -Even though it jumps back and forth in time, through the whole book, it's written SO WELL that you never get lost. And I agree with what someone else said; this is a great book for a young adult to the young at heart (...which would be me,....late 30's ;)
It was a well written and easy to read book.
Oh, and one more thing! Aaron and Chris; you've got big talent to be two men and to write a novel from the point of view of a teenage girl !!! -You did an awesome job !!!
Can't wait to read Michael !

3.5 Stars.

This is an intense book! In a good way. A lot is going on, and there is a lot to catch your interest. First there is Airel and you have no idea what is happening to her for most of the book. Then there is a killer, possibly two, a stalker, a guy, and a whole lotta mystery. Mix in a secondary story that goes back thousands of years and you have one heck of a book.
One of the first things I noticed about this book is that it's a good bit longer than most of the books I have been reading lately. It's about 425 pages, and most of the books I have been reading in the past few months have been right around the 300 page mark or shorter. So it was nice to mix in a longer book. You can really get a lot more detail in those extra 100 pages. And a lot of unanswered questions. I both loved, and hated the amount of unanswered questions in this book. The mystery surrounding Airel was awesome and I loved reading along, trying to find out what was going on, but so much was left up in the air for so long that I started to get frustrated at how little had been revealed to the readers, even up to the half way point of the book. After you get about half way done, you start to get some answers but 220 pages is a long time to wait.
I loved Airel. I thought she was the cutest little thing. She is smart and strong and you just can't help but root for her. I liked Michael too, even though I felt like their romance was a bit cheesy at parts. It wasn't exactly insta love, but it was not too far off. Still, there is just something about the two of them that I responded positively to.
I will admit that there were a few points in the book where I was confused. There are multiple new "guys" introduced and a few times I got them mixed up. Once I got the hang of how the story was shifting back and forth between the different people and places and fell into a better reading pattern and really started enjoying the story. The story of Airel is really great, and a worth while read. I thought they focused a little too much on the past, but maybe that is just because I don't love long battle scenes. The story is well written and very well developed, and other than a few confusing moments I really really liked it! I can't wait to see what is going to happen next in book 2, Michael. The ending of this book certainly shocked me, so I am really interested to see were we go from here.

This book proved a bit too different than what I expected. It started off well enough, Airel being a typical, funny teenage girl, needing her own girl-times with her best friend, a deep crush on the new kid in school then after getting sick repeatedly and unexpectedly, witnessing a murder, the flashbacks to the beginning of Airel's story and unexplained powers became a bit too far fetched for me; I would, however, be interested in other writings of Mr. Patterson.

The characters were very under developed, as was the relationship between Airel and Michael Alexander. All together it was slow and underwhelming. The book seemed to be building up and trying to create a background story for the first 3/4, but then suddenly everything clicked for Airel.
Before reading it, I read reviews that said Airel was such a "real" and relatable character, and that the fight scenes were magnificent. However, Airel was more of an empty shell of a confused young girl, suddenly falling madly in love with another teenager for no apparent reason, than Bella from Twilight. He told her she was beautiful and opened her car door, and this made him a wonderful kind soul? Most of the conclusions she drew about the other characters were non-sensical and completely unbelievable. Further, the battle scenes were poorly executed, lacking detail and left me not caring and a little confused.
Don't be tricked be the high average rating and glowing reviews. This could have been an interesting story, but ended up being boring and confusing.

This was terrible, an honest bore and written by someone obviously unable to put himself in a teenage girl's shoe. It's was an utter stereotypical girl, the way she acted and felt and it made me want to get a bucket. (yes I know I just contradicted myself but let me explain) she was a stereotypical in the way she was thought of, the author wrote and described her like most middle age males think girls act, silly and always in love and when they feel love... "omg I've never felt this before and I'm scared and ohhhh, he touched my hand he has something dangerous in his eyes that I love and am scared of". And ok this plot works and was written by hundreds of people but how the author as excutied it is boring and makes me annoyed that people think girls act this way.
I couldn't finish it, that's saying something becasue I'm near boke, and only have spanish books available to me, and I need books to live.

I found the story very inviting and spiritual. The fact that it's set in a teenage way is interesting. The author makes the story picture perfect in your mind. I hope that there is a movie on this. But don't leave anything out. Every bit of the movie should tell the story as it is in the book. Looking forward to reading the saga to this it's got me curious.

Wow! It's that ending that really gets you. As you read the two story lines you come to love Airel, the teenage, love-struck beauty; and you begin to respect the heroic and strong fallen angel, Kreios. The two stories seem to have nothing to do with each other, but as the book progresses you realize you've been looking at the underside of the tapestry. It's an amazing thing when you see the full picture...and you don't get that full view until the very end. And what you see is beautiful!
This book left a profound picture in my mind of the power that God's love possesses; that the fight on our behalf is not a game or something imaginary, but that--even though the scenes in this book are fantasy--a battle rages between the forces of good and evil.
Powerful.

I found this novel, if it can be called that without a wince, completely painful to read. I was originally interested by the summary of the book, it had potential. However, the writing style was horrendous. I was left wondering if the author had an editor that despised him to the point of refusing to proofread and correct/improve it. Sentences/paragraphs were stand alone and the author's voice came across as stilted, the novel simply did not flow well to be read easily nor enjoyably. Each paragraph jumped from thought and action too erratically, and did not have a good sense of timing. The protagonist, who described herself as smart, in truth came across ignorant. The author made a huge mistake in choosing to write in the first person point of view and thus made her unlikable.
I was only able to get two chapters in before deciding to spare myself from the undeserved suffering of having to continue. I suggest the author take a few more creative writing courses or, at the very least, study the writing style of more established writers before publishing any more books. I shudder at the fact that there is a sequel. Quite frankly, I don't understand how this novel had favorable reviews.
Apologies if this review offends or hurts the feelings of the author.

So, at first I was horrified at the lack of attention to detail. Her hair is up, but then she's running her hands through it. She doesn't have any close friends, but then talks about her best friend. Stuff like this almost caused me to put the book down several times. I did, however, keep reading and towards the end it got better. This is an interesting story line, but not worth it with all the little slip ups and back and forth story lines going from modern day to four thousand years ago and back again. I probably won't read the second book.

An amazing story that will captivate audiences ranging from young adult to the young at heart! Airel crosses boundaries in a fascinating and unforgettable way to engage readers within a story that will not soon be forgotten!
First of all, I have to say - I LOVE THIS COVER!! Is it not gorgeous?! Remarkably, this simple, yet complex, portrait does an amazing job encapsulating the story held within. With that being said, I throughly have to commend the authors, Aaron Patterson and Chris White. The ability to tell an amazing and vivid story from the point of view of a young female teenager, while being male, is absolutely incredible. They are able to truly capture the essence of teenagers, their thoughts, attitude and use of slang. Amazing. Now, to the story...
Airel actually tells two stories, interwoven into one. The main story focuses on Airel, a young teenage girl, who has lead quite a normal life until one day she meets a gorgeous stranger and new guy at school, Michael. He is everything she had ever dreamed of and most incredibly, he is into her in a big way. However, that isn't the strange thing. The crazy thing is that all of a sudden Airel becomes more and more beautiful - not a flaw in sight, upon her skin or hair, wounds suddenly heal within seconds and worst of all - a killer is on the loose, claiming to know "what" Airel is.
The second story, which takes place throughout Airel, is about Kreios and an ancient family of fallen angels, during the time period of 1250 BC. Kreios has lost his beloved wife and will do anything to protect his young infant daughter from the Seer and their enemies. But will he be able to keep her safe forever and before it is too late?
Though there are two different stories, the transitions are excellent and done in such a way that the reader will never feel lost. On the contrary, before each time period transition, the authors have a knack for leaving the reader hanging, dying to find out what is going to happen next. Very clever on the part of the author. This also makes racing through the book a must. Can you say "Hard to put down?!"
In addition to the excellent characterization, the settings are incredibly vivid and the story is told in a way that the reader becomes absorbed within the feelings and emotions that are being played out. The flow of the story is smooth and tight and leaves the reader yearning to discover what is going to happen.
One of my favorite lines (among many) within Airel, is one that will tug at the hearts of many readers, and for which many readers will easily be able to relate to:
'I always had to buy a book, even if I wasn't done with the one I was currently reading. I loved to read. I felt like the turn of each page echoed inside the world between the covers - and each book had its own rules. There, within the mystique of that connection, was something special, and it was addictive.'
While being a story of imagination and fiction, there are many elements throughout that are truly lifelike, such as the characterizations and moral thoughts. Entertaining, provocative and mesmerizing. Airel is an amazing story that I highly recommend to everyone - male, female, young or not so young.

I really enjoyed this book for several reasons. First, I live in Meridian, ID which is a few miles from Boise, so I know the area. Also it is rare for 1 guy to write a good story from the pov of a girl, much less 2. It was a good, clean, refreshing story with no sex or vulgarities in it, which is, sadly, rare for this generation of young teens. Overall, a wonderful story with an intriguing plot with a twist at the end and the coolest cover ever. Kudos, Chris and Aaron.

When I think about what I enjoyed the most in this book, it's the fact that it dips into all kinds of things that I like in a story. The main story stays true to the type of book I thought it would be- young adult fiction. I enjoyed the intense scary parts as well as the mysterious and fantastic. Once the follow up book, Michael, is soon to come out, I'm sure I'll be reading this book over again right before Michael- then probably again after that. Fantastic.

This book was somewhat confusing. You start out present day then the next your in an era of b.c. I thought this was a story of the paranormal but it is all about angel s and demons. It was not a bad read though

An absolutely amazing book! If you are looking for a great read, look no further- this is it. I couldn't put it down. I found myself staying up way too late in the night reading and couldn't wait to pick it up again when I woke in the morning. I can't wait for Michael to come out. It is already on my Christmas wish list.

I really loved this book. The switching back and forth between point of views and the very unique love story, as well as the surprising family love that I really didn't expect. The very second I began reading this, I was captivated and couldn't put my Kindle down.

I really enjoyed the book. I can't wait to get started on the next one...it was a little confusing at times when the story jumped around so much. Then at one part where it felt like I missed something and had to go back a re Read some of it and after that I was still Somewhat confused. But all in all worth the read

I wanted to like this book but could not because there is no character development between Michael and Ariel. There is no love story to root for, could have been interesting but not developed well enough to purchase next book.

Mr. Patterson has done a phenomenal job on his novel, Airel. I was captured from the start and encouraged by a positive message that can reach our young people. Engaging and always moving, this book kept my attention for two days, till completion and then passed on to my co-workers. The local Boise, Idaho connections provided relativity and some humorous moments. I would certainly recommend this book, especially for that young reader wanting to branch into fantasy with a message that is positive.

I started reading this book, and found it to almost start out like the twilight saga... but it's not! I found it very captivating and couldn't put it down, I just had to keep reading to see what happened. Definitely recommend you read this book
