I've really enjoyed the Fox and O'Hare stories, despite relatively lightweight plots, largely due to interesting characters and the entertaining banter between Fox and O'Hare. Unfortunately, the plot of this short was even more difficult to suspend disbelief on than anything previously, given how unnecessary and silly the key plot device seemed to be and the out-of-character risk Fox's scheme seemed to bring to surrounding civilians.

It was a fun read, very enjoyable. Ok, the likely hood of 4 identical carriers in a heist is small, unless it was a very smart criminal, in which case he should use his smarts for an honest job. However this guy is smart, and she makes him seem somewhat loveable. She also conveys the idea that maybe je can be redeemed somewhere along the line and become honest or maybe I was reading that into it because I like honest people.

This short story seems to be the introduction to the series. Always light and entertaining. I think it does a great job of establishing the characters and the tension between them. Quick and enjoyable :-)

While this is touted as being a short story, it did not appear that way to me while reading it. It seems to me to be the introduction to the series and not a separate stand-alone story. I very much enjoy her Stephanie Plum books, but I found the introduction to this to be a bit convoluted to follow.

Audio Book provided by publisher for review.
No remuneration was exchanged and all opinions
presented herein are my own, except as noted.
This fun short story is superbly voiced by Scott Brick. He is a total star, with subtle voice characterizations and perfect timing. The 'acting' is not overdone -- jibing with how they would sound in my head as I read . Kate’s office mate is really well done — well intentionedly obnoxious. As short as it is it would be the perfect introductory audiobook and for people already into them great to listen to during a short task. And, it gives you a test-drive for this series written by Evanovich and Goldberg.
Kate O’Hare is not just a more upscale Stephanie Plum (Evanovich's main character in her extremely popular Stephanie Plum Series). More directed than Steph, Kate is totally different: grittier, and less susceptible to a man who could charm her panties off than Ms. Plum. In this way Lee Goldberg adds great depth to the writing.
Nick Fox makes crime look good: he's as charming as James Bond but perhaps not as deadly, like Cary Grant, The Saint, and every suave bad boy.
The title of the book is apt for a clever plot twist that anyone who has ever been on a freeway in LA will find amusing.
I really enjoyed the story; it is worth the price.

Hot on the heels of Pros and Cons another short interlude with the Goldberg-Evanovich combo of Fox and O’Hare. Equally as brief – 30-odd pages but with enough substance or meat on the bones, to convince me that these two authors and their two protagonists have some legs in them yet and to get me immersed in their longer books.
I do enjoy books with a lighter touch and they don’t necessarily need to be filled with death and copious amounts of gun-play and mayhem. Not always granted – but on occasions I do like to read about characters who would be engaging enough to have a drink with in a bar, rather than be crossing over to the other side of the street to avoid them. I must be getting soft in my old age!
There’s an interesting dynamic developing between both main combatants that is fun to observe. O’Hare and Fox are both competitive and intent on having the final say, add in a spark of attraction and the chemistry becomes more volatile.
Here we have the odd-couple purportedly working on the same team as Fox brazenly works with O’Hare while all the time plotting to steal some priceless artefacts. Thirty pages on…. one of them definitely has the upper hand for now. Roll on The Heist!
So another amusing diversion for an hour or so, but just as importantly it keeps the scoreboard ticking over, towards the year-end target of 120!

This is a very short story prequel telling the story of when Kate and Nick first met. The the store print length is listed at 29 pages. I read the ebook that only displayed 10 minutes (no page numbers). It is about her start at the FBI and a reminder of his criminal past. It is very short, light and fun but is odd that it released after the original short story and 2 books in the series. I assume its purpose is to whet our appetite for the next book due November 2014, or maybe remind us of their beginnings since the criminal has been working for the authorities for two books.
It is a cute but doesn't add anything that we didn't already experience with the characters. Up to you if it is worth the price, or borrow it like I did.
I will continue reading the series.

The long lasting chase of Nick Fox by Kate O'Hare starts with this simple case that sets the stage for their future pursuits. It is simple, explains Kate's backstory well and gives us insights into the FBI's first encounter with Nick Fox. Was it a little too easy for the FBI not to background check Nicks Security Company. Chalk it up to overworked Gov. employees with to much paperwork to shuffle.

A cute, fun little story that explains how the enmity between Kate and Nick came about. It also suggests where the dessert gifts Nick always leaves for her first started. I really enjoyed this opportunity to this pair at the very beginning of their “relationship”. My biggest complaint is that it’s over so quickly.

This review is based solely on the "Look inside" feature provided by the publisher and the store. And it was pretty bad. Nothing more than an advertisement for the authors' other books. Honest! Not one paragraph of the story was provided. Not one word!

Started and finished The Shell Game by Janet Evanovich and Lee Goldberg last night. It's a short story telling the tale of how Kate and Nick met. If you haven't read The Heist and The Chase, I recommend you read The Shell Game first. It's gives the reader a lot of insight to the two main characters! Unfortunately for Kate and Nick addicts, Janet and Lee just wrote this book. It's hot off the press! Just made me love them more and can't wait for the next one in the series, The Job, to come out in November!

I'm backtracking a bit by reading this one but it's always good to know how these series get started. I need full length adventures from these two, meaning the characters and the authors. Super fun read, just right for a long soak in the tub.
