Stephanie Plum has an unenviable task in HOT SIX, her sixth adventure. Ricardo Carlos Manoso--aka Ranger--is wanted for questioning in the murder of Homer Ramos, the son of international black-market arms dealer Alexander Ramos. Ranger's been caught on camera leaving the building where he had a meeting with Homer, right before the building explodes. Ranger, the mystery man with a never-ending supply of cash and cars and no known address, has also missed a recent court date...and Vinnie, Stephanie's goat-loving cousin and the owner of Vincet Plum Bail Bonds, has recruited Stephanie to find him. But even if she can get her hands on him (which she definitely wants to do)--is she strong enough to resist her carnal urges and bring him in?

But Stephanie's got other things to worry about. A homicidal maniac is stalking her; she's being followed by a couple of hit men (one of whom has just arrived in America from Pakistan); she's adopted a dog with an appetite even bigger than her own; her love life is happening only in her mind; and, perhaps worst of all, her Grandma Mazur, in the midst of a late-life crisis, has temporarily moved in. Add to the mix a couple of lovable stoners, and all the regulars we've come to know and love (including the Buick), and you can be certain of one thing: Stephanie's back...and she's bound to get into something!

HOT SIX definitely lives up to its name: It really is the hottest Stephanie Plum book yet. Some interesting developments occur in Steph's relationship with Ranger, causing her to look at him in totally new ways and spend a little more time in the shower. And then there's Morelli, who is as sexy as ever, and he's starting to change his mind about the whole marriage thing. If you were Stephanie, wouldn't you be confused, too?

Janet Evanovich's sixth Stephanie Plum adventure is just what we've come to expect: zany, frenetic, outlandish, surreal, and absolutely hysterical. Stephanie's goofy and--let's face it--sometimes incredibly stupid, but that's why we love her. We love her because her hamster's her best friend, because she can't control her appetite or her libido, because she's so used to her cars blowing up that it doesn't even phase her, because her sidekick is a 200-plus-pound ex-hooker named Lula whose hair color changes weekly. She's sexy without knowing it, charming without knowing it, totally and absolutely lovable. And the men in her life are equally irresistible...

HOT SIX is the most character-driven, most thrilling installment in the series yet. And if you thought HIGH FIVE ended with a cliffhanger...wait till you read the final scene in this one!

"Hot Six" by Janet Evanovich is another great addition to the hilariously funny and downright wonderful Stephanie Plum series. After six books in the series, Evanovich shows no signs that this series is getting stale, providing readers with another fast-paced and exciting read. Trenton New Jersey's most incompetent bounty hunter, Stephanie Plum herself, is back and better than ever, ready to once again sweep readers up into her immensely entertaining life.
In this sixth instalment, Stephanie is faced with something she never expected to happen. When Homer Ramos, the son of black-market arms dealer Alexander Ramos, is found shot in his father's fire-gutted office building, the only person on the security cameras with Homer is Stephanie's fellow bounty hunter Ranger. But Ranger has disappeared, and he missed a court date in the process, so Vinnie asks Stephanie to find Ranger and bring him in. Well not only is Ranger a former mercenary who won't be found if he doesn't want to be, he's also Stephanie's mentor and friend and Stephanie will have nothing to do with trying to catch him.
But of course Stephanie's bound to get involved one way or another, and when Ranger starts making late night visits to her apartment, she soon finds herself doing rather disastrous surveillance on the Ramos family and getting closer and closer to the wrong side of the law!
Stephanie's problems start piling up, and though she thinks her life is a disaster, we get an uproariously funny and suspenseful read as we watch Stephanie get herself into one mess after another. Grandma Mazur has moved into Stephanie's apartment after having a big blow-up with Steph's father, which is utterly ruining Stephanie's sex life with her sexy cop boyfriend Joe Morelli. Grandma Mazur is just as eccentric and amusing as ever, providing great comic relief. Lula, the 230lb ex-hooker is along for the ride too, and she always manages to make me laugh. Not to mention Bob, the hilarious golden retriever with an eating disorder who bounds into Stephanie's life one day and doesn't want to leave.
But things quickly turn serious, and Stephanie finds herself being tailed everywhere she goes by two goons who are expecting Stephanie to lead them to Ranger. And if she doesn't, they promise Stephanie that very bad things are going to happen to her. An FTA wanted for murdering his wife gets given to Stephanie since Ranger is out of the picture, and he is no walk in the park to deal with. And it's not long before Stephanie is once again surrounded by corpses, wrecked cars, and terrifying threats. She's got the zit from hell, she's worried about herself and Ranger, and she is totally sexually frustrated. Tough for Stephanie, but tons of fun for readers!
"Hot Six" contains an intriguing and well thought out mystery, and Evanovich provides her readers with a conclusion that will satisfy, but at the same time leave readers begging for "Seven Up". Evanovich has a great sense of humour, and she knows just how and where to use it to make us laugh. She also has a gift for blending a tight and suspenseful mystery with the humour that she does so well into one fabulous creation that works beautifully. "Hot Six" is a fantastic read and it comes very highly recommended.

This book for me is simply yum! Ranger, oh, Ranger, I'm sorry to all the Morelli fans but Ranger is the guy I adore in Stephanie's books.
Stephanie starts out this book by saving her friend Carol from jumping off a bridge. Good deed that will come back later in the form of Bob the dog. See, Carol stole some undies to try and spice up her marriage while she was trying to get away she hits an unmarked police car. So rather than go to jail Carol is willing to jump off the bridge. I'll leave it at that because you don't need to know much more. :)
Back to Ranger:
This time he's hiding out because he is wanted on murder charges. He's missed his court date and now Vinnie wants Steph to track him down. Although she refuses Vinnie's demands she still starts checking for him anyway. She wants to know and we need to know what has happened to Ranger.
She ends up with Ranger popping in at all hours of the night to get some steamy flirting in and to find out any information she might have discover on the Ramos family (a gun running family whose son he is suspected of killing). Ranger doesn't want to ask her, but soon has to because she falls into the good graces of Homer Ramos (Head of the Ramos family). Stephanie ends up in a wild goose chase of searching for the real killer and her own doubts of whether Ranger could have done the killing or not.
Steph gets two new roommates Grandma Mazur and Bob the Dog. She's got a huge pimple and isn't getting any sleep because Grandma snores and Ranger keeps popping in in the middle of the night.
This is just a bit of the fun Stephanie is in for this time because she's got all that wonderful chemistry with Ranger that keeps scarying her to death and Bob and Lula along for the ride.
This is another great one for Janet. I just can't wait for each new book. When a new one comes out I preorder as soon as I can eagerly awaiting it's arrival and each time I go through the entire series prior to reading the newest book.
These books are better each time I read them. I am so glad I found this series. I'll keep reading them as long as she keeps writing them. :)

After reading the paperbacks in order, I've recently begun reading these books in their unabridged audiobook form in reverse order. I started with #8 (Hard Eight), recently finished up #7 (Seven Up) and the latest listen has been Hot Six. Reading these backwards has been an eye-opening experience and I'm now able to pinpoint exactly where things began to become repetitive for me as a reader (the very beginning of book #7, for those interested).
Hot Six has all of the wit and the fun its two follow-ups lack. Stephanie's car blow ups are still funny, the tension between Stephanie, Ranger and Joe is starting to wear thin but still shows moments of spark and the one-liners are abundant and are grin-worthy. In Hot Six things are just beginning to get that "same-old, same-old" feeling about them.
This time around Stephanie is on the hunt for fellow bounty hunter and lust interest, Ranger, who is a suspect in a murder case. Stephanie doesn't have a chance of catching Ranger and she knows it but she takes on the assignment anyway. Ranger soon visits her in the wee hours of the night and asks for her assistance in helping him prove his innocence. Agreeing to this, of course, only gets bumbling Stephanie into trouble with some very shady characters. As if that weren't enough Stephanie's every move is being followed by two inept bad guys and her nemesis Joyce (AKA the tramp who slept with Stephanie's ex-husband) who all hope to cash in when they bring in Ranger. Hot Six is also the book where we are introduced to Bob the pooping retriever with the eating disorder. I love, love, love Bob. His intestinal distress makes for many a laugh out loud moment. Rounding out the cast is the usual group of oddballs: Lula, the hilarious former prostitute, zany Grandma Mazer (who moves in with Stephanie!), Mooner & Dougie the dopey potheads and Joe Morelli the sexy cop and other object of lust in Stephanie's life.
The plot, the characters, heck just about everything about Hot Six is over the top and silly but that's why I enjoyed it. It's escapist fiction at its best.
Read by C.J. Critt this has been my favorite of the recent unabridged recordings. Critt has a full bodied voice, rich and nuanced with just a touch of sexy raspiness that never gets monotonous or over-the-top. The book was a pure pleasure to "hear" and comes highly recommended.

OK, let's do some serious character analysis here. We all know Rex, the hamster with deep thoughts and an outstanding soup can. He has been integral to every plot, sometimes putting himself in true danger for Stephanie's sake. But in this book, the heroic, taciturn Rex is eclipsed by a new animal: Bob the dog, who is given to eating everything in sight, including Grandma Mazur's two boxes of prunes (with some truly spectacular results). What does this mean for Rex? Is the author trying to tell us that dogs are better than rodents? We shall have to wait and see...
Bob, of course, belongs (sort of) to Stephanie, she of the bad hair days, and in this outing, a pimple the size of Cleveland (which doesn't help her mood). Stephanie is bunking down with Rex, Bob and her new roommate: Grandma Mazur, 75-going-on-16, a hot mama if there ever was one. Unfortunately, Grandma's presence deep-sixes Steph's on-again, off-again sex life but good.
Did I mention sex life? Hot and sexy Morelli and hot and dangerous Ranger both want Stephanie, only there is a glitch or two: Ranger is wanted for murder. And Morelli is seeing more of Grandma Mazur than he ever wanted.
Of course, ex-ho Lula is back in fine form, all 250 luscious pounds of her, as is Stephanie's arch-rival Joyce, and some new people as well: The Mooner, a definitely way-mellow dude; his sidekick The Dealer (don't ask); and some inept goodfellas who are tailing Stephanie. (PC alert here: Written well before the events of September 11, 2001, this book contains a caricature of a Pakistani villager who has joined his American counterparts in crime. Many of his bon mots would have been hilarious if not for recent events. Be warned, and take it as no more than the comic relief it was meant to be.)
The plot itself is a bit loosey-goosey, even for a Plum novel. But who cares? These books are so rich in humor and priceless characterizations, the plot is always secondary. In this case, it's probably tertiary. It involves two crime factions who have trod on each other's turf. Ranger may or may not be a player in this war, and Stephanie, of course, is up to her teased-up hair in trouble. There are as many laughs as ever. A hint: Grandma comes in at 2 a.m. from a heavy date. As Stephanie's mother genuflects repeatedly, Grandma explains just why she is so late.
No more spoilers...get the book! I'm on my way to Book Seven!

Janet Evanovich does it again. The sixth book in the Stephanie Plum series, HOT SIX, met most of my expectations. I am always disappointed when these books end and experience a feeling of being let-down. Personally, I think the books should be double the length!

In HOT SIX, Stephanie deals with a smorgasbord of personal relationship problems. She is suckered into being a dog owner; Grandma Mazure moves in; Joe wants some "quality time", and Ranger drops by whenever he feels like it, much like a ghost.

The main plot line of the book is Stephanie's unofficial search for Ranger who is suspected of killing a major crime figure. She refuses to take the case and only wants to reassure herself that Ranger is a) okay and b) he didn't commit the crime he's posted bond on. Her archenemy Joyce Barnhart is then given the case and Stephanie's subtle means of thwarting Joyce's attempts at catching Ranger are priceless and sprinkled throughout the book.

Grandma's attempts at single living (albeit it with Stephanie) are all good for laughs. Her one-liners crack me up.

Joe's growing devotion to Stephanie is getting interesting, but I admit, it wouldn't be as interesting if Ranger weren't thrown in the mix.

Ranger magically appears and disappears when he needs to see Stephanie, and he does manage to sneak in a kiss that was very well written. He enlists Stephanie's help in finding out some things that may clear him, but then orders her to stay away when she becomes a target.

The addition of Bob, the dog, creates some unusually funny background.

But leave it to Stephanie. She manages (by accident) to become the cigarette chauffeur for a crime lord while she is staking out his son!

The fun I have reading these books is priceless. My 18-year old daughter bought her own set of books to take to California with her because she loves them, too. I have heard there may be a movie made from these characters, and I can't wait, but hope the movie industry doesn't spoil the uniqueness and character of these lovable books.

This book belongs in a new category: Something like comedy that contains crime as a background. Seriously, this book is almost as funny as if The Three Stooges played the criminals and took on The Keystone Kops.
The story has several running gags that are well sustained. Stephanie Plum and those who are attracted to her are very interested in having sexual relations, but are continually stymmied in unpredictable ways. Bob, the dog, comes into Stephanie's life, and one disaster follows another. This dog is the Lucille Ball of animals, and makes a complete farce out of every situation. The criminals in question are so clumsy and stupid that they continually give themselves away, leaving you with virtually no mystery to hold in your hands. Stephanie continually has her efforts to be a bounty hunter turn out poorly, yet somehow she gets out of the worst of what could happen with another hilarious mishap scene. Stephanie's grandmother decides she wants to ride the wild side and moves in with Stephanie. Between her interest in men and snoring, she is driving Stephanie up a wall. There are more such running gags, but you get the idea. Many books make the mistake of overdoing a single running gag. By filling this book to the brim with them, none are overdone.
Few novels feel like they should be a movie, but this is clearly one of them. Each scene is very visceral in its development and humor.
You may not want to read this book right away. It is so funny that you may want to save it for an emergency, like the fire hose in most building hallways. You can be sure you'll laugh your head off whenever you do read it.
By the way, for those who like a synopsis: Stephanie's mentor, Ranger, is video taped in a building moments before the victim is murdered and the building is torched. Ranger is on the lam from the cops, and there's a warrant out for his arrest. Stephanie and others help him keep an eye on things so he can prove his innocence. More murders ensue, and the bad guys are foiled in the end.
Have a ball overcoming your misconception that crime cannot be funny!

Homer Ramos has been killed and the building he was in set on fire. The accused is none other than Ranger! When Stephanie's cousin Vinnie tries to assign this FTA to Stephanie she refuses big time. No way will she even attempt to bring in Ranger. The file is then given to Stephanie's rival, Joyce Barnhardt. Stephanie has other bad guys to catch though and somehow becomes employed by Ranger. She also has two new roomates when Grandma Mazur moves in after a disagreement with Stephanie's parents, and when she is conned into "dog sitting" cop Brian Simon's dog while he's "away". The Golden Retriver, Bob, becomes part of Stephanie's wacky family, and wins the hearts of the reader.
This book was awesome. Stephanie is as sassy as ever, and Grandma Mazur is as wild and loveable as expected. The addition of Bob to the mix was entertaining and made the book fun to read. There were also two new off the wall characters--Mooner and Dougie, a.k.a The Dealer. These two seemed to be molded after Beevis and Butthead. They were likable in their own odd way. And of course, no Stephanie Plum novel would be complete without the irresistable Joe Morelli and the dangerous Ranger.
The plot of this story was great. It was well written and moved along at a fast and steady pace. There is enough action and laughs to keep the reader turning pages as fast as they can. The characters are all charming and quirky, if not a little (ok, maybe a lot)mixed up in the head. This just adds to the entertainment of the book and makes it more fun to read.
Also, the prologue of Hot Six answers the mystery at the end of High Five. If you've read High Five and wondered about the mystery man at the end, the beginning of Hot Six will end the suspense.
Hot Six is a fun, wacky, crazy, entertaining read. Packed with laughs and chills it is a book to recommend. A keeper by far.

Hot Six was my introduction to Janet Evanovich's Stephanie Plum series. Stephanie's unabashed Jersey Girl-ness immediately captivated me. I loved how she wore more makeup when she felt like crap, how donuts were the cure for a rainy day, and her openness about her sexuality. I loved how her sexual feelings didn't come on like a refrigerator light when a man opened the door. I understood her to be Everygirl in the unexpected job of bounty hunter. And her choice between Ranger and Joe's was Everygirl's (at least in our minds, not in our lives!). Do we choose the cop we went to school with that our mom adores, or do we fall into the embrace of the mysterious, sexy, dangerous guy?

Just to give some of the flavor, Stephanie needs to bring someone in. She finds the woman poised on the railing of a bridge, ready to jump because she is ashamed to have been arrested. Stephanie calls her bluff, because she knows no one from her neighborhood would jump into a river wearing such an expensive leather jacket. Believe me, in the hands of Janet Evanovich, this material is very funny.

I went back to read one through five, and I've followed the series ever since right on to the most recent number 13. In the early books, the reader can begin the series anywhere. There aren't too many characters and although obviously you will miss some back-story you can catch up later.

I would recommend the Stephanie Plum series (especially the earlier books) to anyone who likes both the detective and romance genres. If you read to escape and relieve stress, these books are just your ticket.

A building owned by a black-market arms dealer has burned down, leaving one of the owner's sons dead inside with a bullet hole. Expert bounty hunter, Ranger, was caught on video at the scene and is the number-one suspect. Ranger was once special forces and moves in mysterious circles, "like the wind." Nobody finds Ranger unless he wants to be found. Stephanie Plum, Trenton's "bounty hunter from hell," sees Ranger as her mentor and lately a bit more than a friend. He's taught her all she knows about the fugitive apprehension business. But if she can bring him in, will she?
Meanwhile, two crackpot thugs are tailing Stephanie, hoping she'll lead them to Ranger. Grandma Mazur is Stephanie's new roommate, along with Bob, a golden retriever who'll eat anything and everything. All these roommates are putting a wicked cramp into Steph's love-life. Grandma's also taking driving lessons. Look out, New Jersey!
Steph's also trying to apprehend a wining madman wielding a tire iron, but she always comes prepared. "Stun gun in my left pocket. Pepper spray in my right pocket. Cuffs hooked to the back loop on my Levi's. Gun at home, in the cookie jar. Courage at home, with the gun."
Fortunately, she's got Lula. "Lula does filing for Vinnie, and she helps me out when I need backup. Since I'm not the world's best bounty hunter, and Lula isn't the world's best backup, it's more often than not like the amateur-hour version of The Best of `Cops' Bloopers," or Lucy and Ethel's Big Adventure.
Steph's frustrated love-interest, Trenton vice cop, Joe Morelli, is also looking for Ranger. The wacky cast of characters gets a couple of new additions, along with 2 car wrecks, 2 car fires, 1 shirt fire, 1 kidnapping and 1 dognapping. Fans of the Stephanie Plum series will, once again, laugh out loud in this hilarious 6th installment.

_Hot Six_ was the first book in the Plum series that I read, and I loved it so much that I went back and caught up on the rest of the series in short order, and then read _Hot Six_ again - Evanovich has a singular talent, and is now one of my favorite authors. Not every Plum book is a gem, but all are enjoyable.
_Hot Six_, much like _One for the Money_, showcases how funny and human Evanovich's writing can be. As I read this book, I laughed out loud many times, chuckled in self-recognition more than a little, and vicariously felt Stephanie Plum's frustration and awkwardness; Evanovich has done an excellent job of writing another book that can completely envelope the reader. It can be a very quick read, as the story flows exceptionally well and kept my interest rivetted, even the second time around - the second time I read it, I stayed up all night after starting it at 10pm and didn't put it down until 5am.
The heat between Stephanie and Ranger gets turned up a few notches in several places, and Morelli definitely isn't out of the picture, so the little love triangle becomes interesting. The plot doesn't feel forced or contrived, and it felt like Evanovich really enjoyed writing this one - there are several unexpected quirks to the story that are very enjoyable, including a gun-running boss that Stephanie is supposed to be spying on jumping into her car and asking her to sneak him to the bar, a huge, friendly dog named Bob becoming a part of Stephanie's life, Grandma Mazur moving in with her, and a surprise from Morelli at the end of the book, though I'm waffling on whether or not I want it to turn out the way Evanovich alludes it will.
This is better-than-average for the genre, and anyone who has enjoyed previous Evanovich books should really like _Hot Six_ tremendously.

Like almost anyone who has read any of the other Stephanie Plum books, I was agonizing over the arrival of this one - luckily, I found her late, and read the first five not to long ago, but, boy, does six months seem long with a cliffhanger like that in High Five... And Janet Evanovich does not disappoint, producing a book as funny, engaging, fun, surprising, enjoyable and likable as the first five.
The book picks up exactly where the last one left off, and goes from there into another of Stephanie's chases as the 'Bounty Hunter from Hell.' As always, she picks up some 'friends' along the way, and this time her new friend contributes much to the story - somehow, Janet makes this character seem well-rounded, yet all we get is a little bit of information... how does she do this! However trite and formulaic this may sound, it's really not - somehow, it remains fresh, new and exciting. And this comes from someone who has wedged in her Evanovich books between George Eliot and Faulkner...
Stephanie, Morelli and Ranger - for those who know the series - are as wonderful as ever, as are all the other and new players. Janet lets characters change without losing what made them so appealing in the first place.
For anyone who has read any of Janet's book, this will be quite a fun romp, but I think having read High Five made it much more interesting since it starts at the EXACT point that the previous left off. Anyone picking up a Janet Evanovich mystery for the first time will, I think, enjoy this one as well - and perhaps be inspired to go backwards in the series. But above all, just read this book! Hey, I went from being a huge skeptic when someone lent me the series to a devoted fan in about ten pages of the first book. It can happen to anyone...

Someone has shot Homer Ramos in his father's office building and then set the building on fire. He was one bad hombre and won't be terribly missed in the community. Trouble is, there's a security tape showing the delectable Ranger as the last person out of the building and the cops are looking for him. Jersey bounty hunter Stephanie Plum needs to find Ranger fast, for both professional and personal reasons. While Stephanie is busy looking for Ranger, her Grandma Mazur moves in with her. Granny's taking driving lessons and the proud owner of a red 'Vette bought at a "fire sale." She's still toting her .45 in her purse and is as big a hoot as ever. Between Granny's snoring, arch-rival Joyce's hounding her, Ranger's midnight break-ins, and Morelli's passionate proximity, Stephanie isn't getting a lot of sleep and a regular job at McDonald's is starting to look pretty good to her. To further complicate matters, Stephanie's being tailed everywhere she goes by two goons who work for a man who thinks Ranger has something that belongs to him and that Stephanie will lead him to Ranger.
Lula and Connie are back in "Hot Six", plus Bob, the dog Stephanie has inadvertently acquired. Bob is a loveable idiot who I hope sticks around. All of these volatile characters combust right off the pages in an explosion of lunacy and laughs which is just sheer delight to read. I laughed out loud 'til my stomach hurt! The mystery gets solved and Stephanie escapes immolation by the seat of her pants; alas, another couple of her cars aren't so fortunate. Stephanie proves once again that she can get the job done, but her love life is as schizo as ever. Evanovich just keeps getting better and better. Bravo!

This is the funniest Stephanie Plum mystery ever! I kept laughing out loud (good thing I was reading it at home and not on the bus!) Although I figured out pretty early on what was happening in the plot, the wacky characters were so funny, the dialogue so peppy, the situations so very fast and breaking in-your-face, that the story just marched on briskly to an ending that came much too soon. I saw a movie called Snatch yesterday, and the two dumb hired guns threatening our Steph, Habib and Mitchell, could have stepped out of the book and into that movie. Best line: in thinking about Habib and his many digressions on what the men in his Pakistan village would do to independent women like Stephanie, she muses that on second thought, she didn't think Habib came from a village in Pakistan, but directly from Hell. New to this book are the two stoners, The Mooner and Dougie, and Carol Zabo, who makes a habit of threatening to jump off bridges. The old gang, though, is back in full force, esp. my favorite, the plus-size ex-'ho, Lula, the slimy Vinny Plum, Joyce Barnhardt, bounty-hunter-wannabe (who gets a delicious, delicious come-uppance!), and the two sexiest men in popular fiction, cop Joe Morelli and the enigmatic Ranger. Stephanie's cup runneth over with these two hunks to play with :) And how could I have forgotten Bob, the dog, whose digestive processes save Stephanie at a pivotal point in the story? (How Stephanie winds up a dog-owner is also very funny.) Love it, love it, love it! Janet Evanovich, you are a treasure!

This best yet Stephanie Plum suspense thriller is a hoot from the get-go, with a dysfunctional set of characters that can't shoot straight. Bounty hunter Plum tries to help her friend and mentor Carlos (Ranger) Manoso solve the murder of the son of an international gunrunner. Ranger, a mercenary by training, is wanted for questioning in connection with the murder. Stephanie's not sure whether she should 1) seduce Ranger 2) take him down for the bounty 3) or try and help him solve the whodunit.
Along the way Stephanie, with her occasional side-kick Lula, bumbles a couple of bounty take downs; helps her grandmother get her driver's license (so she can buy a hot car); gets help from her spaced-out friends Mooner and Dougie (who can't get enough of 'I Dream of Jeannie' reruns from the sixties); and takes in an unwanted dog who eats everything and poops like there's no tomorrow. Of course, the bad guys aren't much better, tailing Stephanie all day long (to get to suspect Ranger) until 5 pm when its time to take the kids to soccer practice.
This novel should be cataloged as a comedy rather than a suspense thriller. Like something out of the Three Stooges or an SNL skit, this JANET EVANOVICH novel is outright hilarious! I mean outright, as in constantly howling out loud! The storyline, dialog, and characters are exceptional in this easy-to-read Stephanie Plum series book. Fans, old and new, won't want to miss this read while waiting impatiently for number SEVEN.

"You've got a pip of a life," Grandma said. "Never a dull moment. Fast cars, fast men, fast food. I wouldn't mind having a life like that."
And grandma means it. She sets out (bless her heart) to have a life just LIKE that!
Think of Hot Six as a mystery drenched in comic relief. Stephanie Plum is an unusual heroine with an unusual job description. She is a bounty hunter. She is also surrounded by a cast of unusual and very indiscreet characters, her "on-again-off-again" love interest police officer Joe Morelli, her 200+ pound side kick Lula, her "mentor-turned-murder-suspect" Ranger (who also contributes to her self-diagnosed "nymphomania"), a dog named Bob who has a ghastly eating disorder, and her less than cooperative grandmother who temporarily moves in on her (and tries to mimic Stephanie's sex life). This makes for one roaring good time, but lest we forget, there is still a mystery to be solved here!
And a whopping good mystery it is...Stephanie is forced to help her mentor, the man who taught her everything she knows about "fugitive apprehension" try to clear his name as a murder suspect. She also has to shoo away the killers who are trying to track her down, and avoid blowing up another car. You'll have fun keeping track of all the antics and mayhem, as well as the seriousnness of the case she is trying to solve.
With all the laughs in the first few pages, it's hard to believe that this could get any funnier, (just wait until grandma moves in...)but this book had me rolling right until the last page. The ending with Bella and Mrs Morelli nearly set me into a permanent laughing fit.
I was impressed with how Evanovich moved the plot along as well as the comedic dialogue. Her characters are very colorful, the plot is solid and the pace is smooth. This was a major departure for me, but I thoroughly enjoyed the diversion and can't wait to get my hands on Evanovich's next Stephanie Plum adventure!
Highly recommended...even for you fellow "suspense-thriller" loyalists!

When I think of the relationship between Ranger and Stephanie Plum, I can't help but compare it to that of a Jedi Master to his apprentice. So, when Stephanie rejects the job of nabbing her mentor who has gone FTA, it is likely that it was out of loyalty but more, out of inadequacy. Stephanie believes that anything she can do, Ranger can do better. The job is handed off to Joyce "The Homewrecker" Barnhardt and she, along with two odd henchmen, begin to follow Stephanie around in the belief that she will lead them directly to Ranger.
Evanovich succeeds in creating another sharp-edged, fast-paced suspense story that surpasses her previous installments. In this story, Stephanie must confront a homicidal rapist who has gone FTA, a Romulan uprising at a Star Trek convention, Ranger's constant breaking and entering, Carol Zabo and her perpetual suicidal pursuits, a new furniture-eating companion, and last but not least, there's Grandma Mazur who has decided to temporarily move in with her.
Through it all, Stephanie manages to whirlwind her way through destruction, danger, and murder with an admirable sense of style. She continuously outsmarts those who stand in her way either deliberately or accidentally. She has her share of luck and misfortune but it is always her spunkiness that gets her to the end alive.

Stephanie Plum is back again and this time she has to bring in an FTA that she knows that she can't get. When she first hears about it she knows she could find him but bringing him would be another issue. Ranger has skipped bail and wanted and Vinnie thinks the only person to bring him would be Stephanie.
Stephanie manages to get herself into a lot of trouble in this book, but when doesn't she get herself into situations where she is in trouble or causing trouble.
When her grandmother moves in with her thinks nothing could be worse. No time for Moralli to come over and hang out and no time for anything fun with her grandmother around. When all of a sudden after helping a friend out she finds herself with a dog named Bob who is huge and eats her out of house and home. What could be worse, living with her grandmother or living with Bob.
With the hunt for Ranger going Stephanie has two strange men following her around and waiting for her to find Ranger. Things only get messier from there. She manages to find herself in places that she shouldn't be. But she does manage to figure out a lot of stuff and go from there.
Stephanie Plum is a riot of laughter and her grandmother, Lula, Connie and the rest of her wacky friends only add to it. I can't wait to read the next two books in this series.

This is book six in the Stephanie Plum series, but you maybe figured that out already. Stephanie is a bounty hunter for her cousin Vinnie, a profession she picked up after being sacked from her job selling lingerie in a department store. She lives in Trenton, which seems to have a high concentration of people who, if rich, would be called eccentric. She always gets a job that sounds super-easy but turns out to be full of intrigue and complications. Extreme silliness ensues.

I enjoyed this book, as I have the five Stephanie Plum books before it, but some scenarios are starting to sound familiar. I mean, how many people are going to break into her apartment? She might as well just leave the door open. And as for cars, well, she should clearly stick with the Buick, because it's the only one that hasn't blown up or gotten crushed. More forgetting the gun at home, not being able to fish her pepper spray out of her purse, being mad at/hot for Joe Morelli, recounting Grandma Mazur's madcap adventures, mooching dinner from her mother...

As I said, I did enjoy this book, and being a compulsive person, I'll probably keep reading them until the series plays out, but they're all sort of starting to sound alike to me.

Stephanie Plum, the bounty hunter from hell, or Trenton, New Jersey, is back with her most serious ordeal yet. She has to decide whether or not do what everyone expects her to do. Yes folks, in this hilarious sixth book of the series, Stephanie gets a huge zit!
Intrigued yet? For those of you loyal readers, the up-in-the-air question left in book five is quickly answered in the first few pages of HOT SIX. And does it ever take off from there! Stephanie is out to find her fellow bounty hunter, Ranger, who is the prime suspect in an organized crime murder. The action is never boring around the "bombshell bounty hunter," and it's just a matter of time before she blows up another vehicle while having a bad hair day.
All of the regulars are back. Stephanie and Lula are hilarious as the know-nothing breaking-and-entering tag-team tandem. Grandma Mazur is hysterically funny and home-life gets even funnier as she moves in with Stephanie, in hopes of getting her driver's license. Ranger and officer Joe Morelli are also there to add the standard professionalism to Stephanie's life. There are also some new interesting characters that add some great color to the story. Mooner and "the Dealer" are excellent additions to the book, and help the plot of the story progress quite nicely.
As always, Janet Evanovich puts together a really well-developed storyline that keeps you guessing until the very end. Her wit and snappy dialogue are very apparent, making for an enjoyable read. This book is a wonderful continuation to the Stephanie Plum saga, and the cliffhanger at the end is sensational. HOT SIX is a wild ride of thrilling suspense and non-stop humor.

You have to give Evanovich credit...she does have a fan base.

Regardless, the book is idiotic...a clueless female stumbling from one situation into another saved by alpha males. I thought it would at least be funny, which it is not. With the exception of the occasional rape/murder thrown into the mix, the writing is eighth-grade level.

But she has her audience...obviously I don't fit the mold.

Hot Six picks up right where High Five left off and after clearing up last years cliff-hanger, Stephanie Plum, bounty hunter from hell, is back on the job. Only, she's not really interested in the first case that comes her way. Her mentor, Ranger has missed his court appearance on a minor concealed weapons charge and he's wanted for questioning, by the police, in the death of an international, black market arms dealer. Everybody in Trenton is looking for Ranger, including a couple of goons who have decided to tail Stephanie, day and night, hoping she'll lead them to him. To make matters even worse, Grandma Mazur has moved in with her; she's now the proud owner, by default, of a wacky dog and everytime she and boyfriend, Joe Morelli start to get cozy, something happens to interrupt them. Put it all together and you have the makings of another wonderful romp through Trenton with Stephanie and company. No author puts together a better cast of characters. The writing is smart, witty and irreverent with dialogue, so down to earth, you feel like you're in the room listening to these people. The scenes, so true to life and vivid you'll be laughing out loud. And, it looks like Stephanie has finally gotten her man...maybe. Janet Evanovich never disappoints and she's not starting now. Do yourself a big favor, start with One for the Money and read the whole series.

I love them all. Just love them. Never a fan of continuing characters in mystery novels, I tripped over the first one in a used book store and have kept coming back for the never ending saga of "Calamity Stephanie" the bounty hunter who cannot shoot straight but can recognize a bona fide jersey girl a mile away. This time Stephanie is plagued by the disappearance of her mentor Ranger, a serial nut who refuses to be brought to justice, two spacey "businessmen" who operate out of a party house, her "big-haired nemesis" and the untimely arrival of her swinging single grandmother who seems older than God and as infamous as Elvis. While Grandma takes driving lessons and sports a new boyfriend, Stephanie tries to decide who she loves and who she can trust as she tails her elusive mentor while questioning his guilt in a mob family murder. All this while paying some attention to her sometimes boyfriend and full time cop, Joe. Great dialogue and wonderful plot twists, as usual. Just read it! My own 84 year old grandmother demands each new Plum tale is Fed Exed to her in her assisted care home. Grandma is her hero. She'll be yours, too.

This book should be renamed to Spectacular Six! I quickly got engrossed in this novel from the Stephanie Plum series. Hot Six is perfectly in keeping with the other books in the series. We find Stephanie, a bounty hunter extraordinaire, given the task of tracking down one of her colleagues, Ranger. Stephanie knows that Ranger is above board, but he was caught on tape leaving the scene of a murder 10 minutes before the body was found. Instead of hauling Ranger to the clinker, she believes he's innocent and starts working in tandem with him (in secret) to find out who the real killer is. Along the way she picks up an unusual assortment of stragglers who end up being key pieces in the mystery. Hilarity ensues as Stephanie gets more deeply involved in the case. You won't want to miss this one!

Stephanie Plum, intrepid bounty hunter, is back at it again. Her boss Vinnie wants her to pick up fellow bounty hunter, Ranger, who is a murder suspect in the killing of a mob member. She has mixed feelings about this as she knows that Ranger is much better at hide-and-seek than she is and she also has a somewhat personal interest in him. Since Ranger is wanted by the police, bounty hunters, and the mob, Stephanie keeps running into one or the other of these people who think that Plum is hot on his trail. In the middle of this Stephanie suddenly has two roommates--Bob, the dog, who is dumped on her by a "friend", and Grandma Mazur who is mad at her son-in-law. They add to the complications of her life and put a real crimp in any romantic designs she has on Ranger or Joe Morrelli, her cop friend. Even the most minor characters in Evanovich's book are hilarious, such as elderly neighbor Mrs. Bestler who enjoys playing elevator operator in Stephanie's apartment complex ("second floor beauty salon. Going up to ladies' handbags...") For a lot of laughs and a great read, try the Stephanie Plum series. It's a hoot!

Stephanie Plum, the skill-challenged bounty hunter, is again on the loose. This time out she picks up two delightful sidekicks (Bob and Mooner) besides Lula her office gal pal. Mooner is a perpetually stoned young man, who might have been introduced before, but I don't recall his being significantly involved in the previous book. Bob is an ingratiating Irish Setter who eats everything in sight. I don't usually find dog poop funny, especially on my lawn or the bottom of my shoe. But Evanovich has written two scenes involving dog poop that had me howling with laughter.
One critic wrote that you don't read Evanovich for plot, you read her for her zany cast of characters. But I think her work is getting better; this feels like a stronger construction than the last Plum caper. The characters are zanier than ever, and by the end you hope that they'll all reappear in the next installment, even the villains.
There may be better storytellers and more profound writers in the mystery world, but do we have a better comic writer in America today? Years past we had the humorouss essays of Cornelia Otis Skinner, Robert Benchley, and James Thurber, but humor in literature seems to have become a dying art. Evanovich may be on her way to becoming a national comic treasure.

I picked up this book for free at my local senior center, and since this was my first exposure to this author, I did not know what to expect. Well, I was unable to stop reading until the last page was turned, and a wonderful experience it was!

Janet Evanovich is a funny and talented writer with great dialogue skills. She can make the outlandish seem totally believable, and has an affinity for bringing the neighborhood to your doorstep. I puzzled for quite a while trying to understand the relationship between title and story, and when I did figure it out I became very happy, because it meant I have at least 5 more of her stories to read.

This is a crime fighting book with heavy emphasis on Stephanie's relationships with her lovers, friends and family. She has the gentle touch of a very happy and secure person. I am not going to recount any of the story here. Take my word for it, this book is chuckle filled while it tugs at the heartstrings. If this becomes your first Evanovich book, I am betting it wont be your last!

The author has a great sense of timing and humor, to make a story about a female bounty hunter (not a topic I am remotely interested in) into a thoroughly entertaining, laugh out loud read.
Her choice of supporting characters makes the main character, flawed as she is, shine.
Definitely try the book. I am already on to the next one.

This was my first Stephanie Plum novel, and it will not be my last. In fact, I now have to go back and read them from the beginning. I was laughing so hard as I was reading this book that I fell right off of the couch and on to the floor. And you know what, I just stayed there and finished reading (I kept thinking it was probably safer for me).
Anyways this book starts out with Stephanie trying to talk her frined Carol out of jumping off of a bridge. This is just the start to a funny (I mean exasperating)week for Stephanie. Her mentor Ranger is accused of murdering a crime boss and has skipped his bail. Stephanie being a bail bond anget is told to track him down (which she refuses). So, she is sent after three other people, two of which come nicely. The thrid tries to kill her multiple times. Add in a grandmother who is sick of living with Stephanie's mom, a bunch of hitmen from the crime family, some cars being blown up, and a co-worker who wants Stephanie to dog-sit and you have a teriffic receipie for disaster and adventure. I totally loved this book and would recommend it to anyone.

Well, what can I say. I started at "One For The Money" and I just can't get enough. I absolutely love this series ... if not for any other reason than a smile and a laugh!
In this book we are introduced to "Bob." No, not another love interest for Stephanie but a great addition to her life.
The last page of "High Five" left me saying "no!" Don't stop here! ... Which man, Morelli or Ranger, would Stephanie succumb to. Thank goodness I had "Hot Six" ready to go or I would have gone crazy waiting.
As I said before, I love this series. The only reason I didn't rate it a 5 is because the storyline in all the books are the same with a new twist. AND, the chartacters seem to be the same with different names. BUT, that doesn't mean that you won't get optimum enjoyment out this book or any of the previous books in the series.
In each book Stephanie, the bounty hunter, is bound to be shot at or her car is mutilated in some manner ... I guess the question is who will do it?
The chartacters, Morelli, Ranger, Grandma Mazur, Lula, Rex and now "Bob" are all familiar throughout every book. Oh, don't forget mom and dan, uncle Vinnie and Connie too! I feel like I know all these chartacters personally.
I love Stephanie's relationship with Morelli. From Book One to Six they have been developing slowly but surely. I think they are good together!

Hard to believe that Janet Evanovich could top High Five, but with Hot Six, she manages to do just that.
Yes. I know who's behind the door. No. I'm not telling. That tidbit is just the beginning of one of the best novels I've read so far this year. I'd waited a long time for Hot Six to arrive, anticipation building, and I was not disappointed in any way.
Evanovich's flair for snappy dialogue and creating quirky characters hasn't diminished a bit. Granny Mazur is just as loopy as we remember and Rex is still running his little legs off and Uncle Sandor's Big Blue just keeps on going.
But now, we have some truly worthy additions to the cast of whacky secondary characters, not the least of which is Bob, a new 'man' in Stephanie's life. All add a dash of spice to the latest in the Plum/Morelli/Ranger saga, which gets more interesting with every page. The main characters have become so ingrained in my mind, I almost think of them as family. Almost.
A truly enjoyable read for your summer enjoyment, although I would suggest a glass of your favorite drink, heavily iced, to accompany HOT SIX's high sizzle factor. Then, there's the cake. But that's Bob's story.
I can't recommend this book highly enough.

This review is for St. Martin's Press first hardback edition published in July 2002, 294 pages. HOT SIX was on the USA Today top 150 best sellers list for 18 weeks between June 2000 and August 2003, reaching the peak position of number 7.

In this Stephanie Plum episode, Ranger, the mysterious bounty hunter who taught Stephanie the trade, is wanted for questioning in the murder of the son of an infamous arms dealer. While still gainfully employed nabbing "skips," also known as subplots (and romancing Joe Morelli) Stephanie manages to help Ranger untangle his affairs.

HOT SIX has humorous dialogue, funny pranks and whacky characters. The scenes with the fugitive Morris Munson are a bit off the sheet, but this ain't literature. Grandma is featured, as is a mongrel dog with an eating disorder. Rex the blasé hamster still turns the wheel. The bad guys are not scary, the violence and profanity minimal, and the sexual details are left to your imagination. In short, HOT SIX is quintessential Evanovich.

I have NEVER....I'm saying NEVER...enjoyed a series of books like I have all six mystery/romance/humor/Stephanie Plum and Co. tales by Janet Evanovich. By the time I made it to Hot Six, I found myself wringing my hands because I didn't have another one to move on to. JE simply won't make it out with #7 soon enough for me....and the long list of relatives and friends I have introduced to these books. I should be receiving a 10% cut for the PR work I've done on behalf of JE! Once you start a JE book....it's like opening a bag of peanuts. You can't stop at one!
The best part of Hot Six is we get to know a little more about Ranger, which only left me thirsty for even more of him. Joe Morelli is pretty hot stuff, but Ranger is starting to run neck & neck with him in the "Bring On The Hot Hunks" department. One more book and Stephanie isn't going to know which of these two guys jump starts her libido the quickest. Poor dear, what a dilemma!
What fun reading this series has been! Wish I could give this book 10 stars!

Any normal person learns from their mistakes, but fortunately for us, Stephanie Plum is no normal person. Having miraculously survived to the sixth installment of this humorous series of misadventures in bounty hunting, the ditsy ex-salesgirl now faces her toughest challenge yet.

This time the job seems doomed to failure from the start, as she gets assigned the task of tracking down the mysterious Ranger, an easy task if you know how to catch smoke and pin it down. As a bonus, she's being followed by two clueless goons, bodies are turning up, and a very dangerous "family" member catches her up a tree in his backyard.

To make matters worse, her grandmother's on the rampage - learning to drive, picking up guys, and totally messing up Stephanie's lust life - and just when you thought you'd seen it all, she's been conned into ownership of the world's largest pooping dog.

Throw in her arch rival Joyce, her gun toting super-sized sidekick Lula, and a new assignment to bring in a crazy homicidal maniac arsonist, and you get an idea of Hot Six, one of the most character intensive installments in the series.

If you can control your natural inclination to slap some sense into the heroine, and get over sharing Morelli's pain by biting your lower lip, you should enjoy this one.

Hot Six is quintessential Evanovich. From the first moments spent talking a friend out of jumping off a bridge by pointing out that it would ruin her hair to her final confrontation with her cop boyfriend's psychic grandmother, Stephanie ricochets from adventure to adventure.
When her friend/mentor Ranger jumps bail to avoid being questioned on a murder rap, Stephanie comes to the rescue. She is aided by Dougie the Dealer, Lulu the retired ho', her own gun toting grandmother, and a bewildering cast of crazies as she takes on a group of criminals that are only slightly less inept than Stephanie herself.
If you think that humorous crime novels are a limited genre, prepare for an embarassment of riches. Only in an Evanovich novel will you find such moments as the dog poop car bomb or the stiff in the lounge chair. The author seems to have an unlimited supply of novel twists and turns.
So if you are prepared to faced such agonizing questions as 'what to do with a dog that eats everything' and 'will Joe Morelli ever have sex again' you are ready for Hot Six. Actually, you think you are ready for Hot Six. Maybe you should have a cold shower first!!

This was my first of the series. Why I started with Hot Six, I have no clue but you better believe I will pick up Seven Up and Hard Eight as soon as I can.
Jersey bounty hunter Stephanie Plum does not have the best of luck. She turns down the job to bring in fellow hunter Ranger but finds herself on his tail for other reasons. Ranger is wanted in connection with the murder of Homer Ramos whose family is in the business of dealing guns. Problem is, Homer found himself in someone elses business as well. In a town where the families of organized crime are described as "dis-organized" you better believe that the chase that ensues is quite comical.
In addition to the case with Ranger, Stephanie's other jobs bring more giggles than ever. When Stephanie Plum brings in a skip, the police know they are in for a laugh!
Evanovich is a master and brings in more bizarre characters in one neighborhood than you will believe. In the heart of a mystery, she knows just when to dish out a joke.
Thouroughly enjoyable!

This is the sixth book in the Stephanie Plum series, New Jersey's hysterical bounty hunter.
In this book, she is asked to pick up Ranger! Her friend and fellow bounty hunter, her mentor Ranger, who is also sought by the police for questioning in the murder of an organized crime figure. Can she do this and go after her friend? Stephanie believes Ranger is innocent and if anything, only kills bad guys.
Joe Morelli, gorgeous cop friend, is here in all his glory and the end was very surprising from Joe. Stephanie's hysterically funny grandmother has moved in with her. This totally ruins Stephanie's sex life!
A cop friend has asked her to dog sit while he goes on vacation, and doesn't return to take the dog back. Move over Rex here comes Bob! A new character emerges, Mooner. Mooner is an always stoned guy and funny. He adds considerably to the laughs in this Plum mystery.
This is a very entertaining series. I have never laughed out loud with any book as I do the Plum series. The pages really turn as they are truly delightful reading. Hot Six is no exception, it is a 5 star book!

I read #s 1-5 last summer and enjoyed them a lot, rating them collectively as 4s, a fun, good time with lots of laughs. This summer, with book #6, all I can say is that it was enjoyable. I had some good laughs but I think I'm growing tired of the series. For one thing, the romance with Joe and/or Ranger just drags on and on and I want some conclusion to it with one or the other guy. Secondly, the characters who are still scoring with me are all secondary, such as Grandma and Lula. Thirdly, the resolution of "High Five"'s cliffhanger ending in #6's prologue was a real letdown for me.

My expectations were a lot wilder and offbeat. It is difficult to gain excitement with a book when you start with a letdown feeling. This may just be me though as I don't do well with these books in mystery that have the same lead characters book after book in a seemingly endless series. I think Sherlock Holmes was the only character I lasted with through every single tale in the same degree of fascination from first tale to last tale. So, if you like these same lead characters being in book after book, your grade will probably be higher than mine and you should go for it.

Yes, we do get to find out who was at the door - and right away, too.
However, the story picks up five months later when Stephanie is told by her bail bondsman cousin Vinnie that Ranger has failed to appear and either she goes after him (or Ranger goes after Stephanie, morelike) or Vinnie will give the case to archenemy Joyce Barnhardt.
As if this weren't enough, Stephanie has to cope with her new roommate, Grandma Mazur, whose presence puts a cramp in Stephanie's style.
Ranger is accused of killing someone and then setting fire to a building, where the dead man was found later. Stephanie doesn't believe he did it, but until she figures out what is really going on, Ranger is a hunted man.
Hot Six does not disappoint, whatever your feelings about who was at the door may be. Steph's got feelings for both Joe Morelli and Ranger, and now we have to wait another year for the next installment in this priceless series. The irrepresible Grandma Mazur is here, as are Lula and Connie, the bunch of schmucks Stephanie has to deal with as she goes about her business. I love these books!

As I wrote in my review of Evanovich's 1st book in this hilarious mystery series, "One For The Money", this woman can create more comedic havoc than senior citizens bumping & nudging their way into some small restaurant, making sure they get that early bird meat loaf special. And that goes for the authoress as well as our New Jersey heroine, Stephanie Plum.
Sue Graff has the "alphabet"--Ms. Evanovich has the "numbers". These are fast paced, easy to read, fun mysteries with a cast of characters we feel right at home with.
Stephanie is still having car problems. ( AAA's nightmare member) I was laughing so hard when she had to use a "Rollswagon"--yep, half VW, half Rolls Royce. Add a new bounding dog, Bob, who has bad hair days, a whacky maniac Munson who keeps attacking Stephanie with fire, aimed moving vehicles, tire irons--as she tries to bring him in for skipping bail and --whew--let me catch my fingers here-- I think I am TYPERventilating.
Any ole hoo, smoldering Ranger is in trouble this time. Crime family Ramos has set him up and plucky Stephanie Plum is there for him--in any way he wishes!
You know, I'm thinking this series would work on T.V. And I see Fran Drescher (of "The Nanny" fame) as our lovingly manic Stephanie Plum.
The jacket cover is as wild & hot as Evanovich's plots. Great fun reading. Thanks for your interest & comments--CDS

In this installment of Janet Evanovich's Stephanie Plum series the plot is so thin it is practically diaphanous. The story of Ranger's possible involvement in a murder and Stephanie's search for him is only an excuse to put Stephanie in more outrageous situations, with wacky characters and dialogue and has no real importance to the novel at all--to the point that the obvious conclusion available so early on is in fact the correct one. But who cares? If you want to read a female detective story for the plot, better get Sarah Paretsky instead. By now it's obvious that Evanovich is a comedy writer, not a mystery writer, and as such Hot Six is a fun addition to her series. The running jokes are back, and oddly enough are funnier than before--in the last book I thought I'd had it with the dead car gag, but Evanovich pulls out more laughs this time round with the same gag. And Grandma Mazur becomes an even better character, as we get to spend some quality time with her. This is a fun, quick read; not great literature, but just right after a hard day of brain surgery or quantum physics or whatever...

At the end of my review of the previous book in the Stephanie Plum series, HIGH FIVE, I wondered if author Janet Evanovich was on the verge of trying too hard with her plotting. Then, of course, there was thread left dangling on the last page. Whose name, Morelli's or Ranger's, did Stephanie pull out of the bowl in her Night of Passion Lottery? In HOT SIX, it seems to me that Evanovich is indeed pushing it. And it turns out that Joe Morelli is the one that got lucky.
Plum is a bounty hunter in Trenton, NJ, employed by Vincent Plum Bail Bonds, the owner being her scummy cousin, Vinnie. Stephanie's modus operandi is either Keystone Cops or Bull-In-China-Shop, depending on her mood and the amount of junk snacks that she's consumed. The fact that she ultimately succeeds is based purely on dogged persistence and good fortune.
The skeleton of the HOT SIX plot is that Vinnie tasks Plum with apprehending Ranger, his best bond enforcement agent and Stephanie's friend and frequent mentor. Ranger has skipped bail on a ridiculous concealed weapon charge - everyone carries in Trenton - and it doesn't help that the local cops want to question him about the recent murder of a crime kingpin's son. Plum wants no part of it, least of all because she hasn't the skill to nab the ex-Special Forces soldier. But, as the bodies pile up, bagging Ranger becomes the least of her worries.
Don't get me wrong. HOT SIX is as funny as any previous book in the series. It's just that Janet's imagination has, in my opinion, finally gone over the top in populating the storyline with weird characters and dropping her heroine into bizarre situations. It's gotten to the point where less wackiness may be better. It's fine that her feisty Grandma Mazur, reminiscent of Sophia (Estelle Getty) of American TV's GOLDEN GIRLS sitcom, must move in with her, but not necessary that the former take driving lessons, date the ancient geezer upstairs, or purchase a red Corvette. It's not unusual that Stephanie apprehends a couple of oddball fugitives over the course of the book, but not required that one of them here be costumed as Captain Kirk at a Trekkies gathering during the takedown. And not surprisingly, Stephanie is followed by a couple of goons who also have an interest in finding Ranger. But does one of them really have to be a Pakistani emigre who, back in the old country, used to beat unruly children working in the village rug factory? What has before simply seemed to be Plum's bad karma is now too heavy a concentration of weird to be believed.
Finally, the reactions of Stephanie's mother to her antics - she say's "Why me?" and makes the sign of the cross a lot- are getting old. And Stephanie's long-suffering Dad continues to be a virtual cipher. It's time both characters were fleshed out.
At least Stephanie is making progress in her love life. Is that a proposal of marriage coming from Morelli at the book's end? You think? After finishing this review, I'm off to purchase SEVEN UP.

I love the Stephanie Plum series of novels. I really hate reading so I purchase them both in audio for me and paperback for houseguests and friends. I'm drawn in with the excitment and adventure of the story that Janet seems to capture in every novel. It has twists, turns, Lula, mystery, wonder, and of course two very "HOT" men! Who wouldn't want a mix of both men. :} I would recommend the "Plum" series, her "Full" series, as well as her earlier novels of mixed titles. They're all great fun and keep you as a reader at the edge of your seat waiting to see if a cars going to get blown up, who's died this week, who attends the pot roast dinner, who she sleeps with next, what will burn down next, and will she get her man (love or bounty). I hope you enjoy them as much as I have. I look forward to #14 in the "Plum" series, the next "Full" novel, and the new novel Janet recently wrote with a new author being released this October. Thank you!

After reading, in no particular order, a half dozen or so of Janet Evanovich's Stephanie Plum novels, I decided that I had to review at least one of them (call it a compulsion to do so), and __HOT SIX__, being the most recent one I've read, got the nod.
I believe that the plots in these novels are mostly there to provide a background for the machinations of our intrepid bounty hunter and her friends and relatives. The plot has been pretty well described in the 300+ previous reviews, so I'll just give it a very short discussion before getting into the part of this review that's the most fun for me.
In her position as a bounty hunter (officially bond enforcement agent), Stephanie is given the job of apprehending and bringing to court, the man who taught her everything she knows about the art of bounty hunting, the elusive man known as Ranger. Ranger, who is out on bond, has missed a court appearance. He is the suspect of choice for a murder. Stephanie, and everyone else, knows that bringing in Ranger is impossible -- no one captures Ranger. No one! But, it does seem that everyone wants to find him, the good guys, the bad guys, and a few intermediate semi-bad guys. This situation provides background for the true meat of the novel, Stephanie's adventures and misadventures along the way.
To give you a an idea of just how good a bounty hunter Stephanie is, consider the following: Most of the time Stephanie sets out on her apprehension tasks by leaving her gun at home in a cookie jar. When she does take it, it usually has only one bullet, or even none, because she has forgotten to buy more. When she does catch up with someone, her intended target more often than not gets away, and in so doing, wrecks her car, and/or sets her on fire, and/or handcuffs her with her own handcuffs, and/or just walks away while she is preoccupied with something else. At any rate her success rate on the first few tries with each bail jumper is very, very low
She attempts clandestine surveillance in a nice inconspicuous "Rollswagon," a car with the front of a Rolls Royce attached to the body of a Volkswagon. Nobody'll spot this car! It's a temporary replacement for her most recent wrecked car.
While trying to peer into the window of a suspect's house, our Stephanie falls out of a tree into his walled off back yard, and gets shot at.
There's lots more, but you get the idea.
Stephanie lusts after two men, the aforementioned Ranger, and her sometimes lover, sometimes protector, sometimes a few other things, Joe Morelli, police detective. This lust is reciprocated by both men.
Stephanie has a grandmother who frequently totes a gun herself, thinks that she, too, would like to be a bounty hunter, and, spreading fear throughout the area, somehow passes the driving test and gets a drivers license.
Stephanie has a sidekick named Lula who is a retired prostitute and who frequently accompanies Stephanie on her misadventures. Lula is a very large woman who dresses in skintight spandex apparel, carries two or three guns and, on every case, tells Stephanie what havoc she is going to wreak on each target. Then when the time comes, tends to run away even faster than Stephanie.
Stephanie has a long suffering mother whose answer to any problem is to start ironing.
And, oh yes, did I mention that Stephanie's idea of home cooking is to make a peanut butter and potato chip sandwich.
There are also a few other colorful characters in Stephanie's life, both human and animal. These include her cousin Vinnie, the owner of the bonding agency, and her boss; her "arch enemy," Joyce Barnhardt; the inadvertantly comedic duo of Moonster and dougie, "the dealer" as well as her pet hamster, Rex; and Bob, the dog who eats everything he can reach, including furniture, and whom you'd like to hate, but can't because he's just too sweet.
When you toss all of these people and animals in a hopper, then add a few gangsters and lunatics to the mix, you end up with a laugh or two or even three on every page from the opening line right up to to the concluding sentence. Thanks, Janet Evanovich, you keep me laughing.

Here we go again. Stephanie Plum is faced with her most daunting task yet: bring in the mysterious former Special Forces agent Carlos Manoso (aka Ranger). Ranger has taught Stephanie everything she knows about fugitive apprehension, and Stephanie knows she will be testing her skills against the master. But if she does discover where he's at, (which she does), she can't turn him in, even if he is supposedly wanted for murder.
And, if this isn't enough already, her very eccentric Grandmother Mazur is crimping her sex life. Grandma Mazur can't get along so well at home with Stephanie's parents, so she moves in with Stephanie. Now Stephanie can't exactly mess around with Joe Morelli, her cop boyfriend with Grandma around.
And last but not least, Stephanie has two threatening goons on her tail, and three corpses-so far-it's getting a little too hot for Stephanie as she tries to solve all these crazy dilemmas she's in.
A great fun book to read!

If you were divorced, had made a mess of your love life, were over-dependent on your family and had no gainful employment--you probably wouldn't decide to become a bounty hunter.
But that's what Janet Evanovich's hapless Stephanie Plum did six books ago, and this wacky mystery series just gets more popular with each book, though not necessarily better.
The first few books introduced wildly improbable situations in a close-knit Trenton, New Jersey ethnic community brimming with eccentrics, where all the women in a beauty parlor were likely to reveal they were carrying concealed weapons. Dogged by gossip, Stephanie couldn't seem to get far without ruining her hair or blowing up a car.
It's hard to top the comic invention of those early books, though Evanovich keeps trying. In her sixth installment, "Hot Six" (St. Martin's, $24.95, 320 pp.), she introduces a ravenous dog and two blundering "disorganized crime" hitmen for spice.
"Hot Six" is entertaining, but if you loved "One for the Money" and "Two for The Show," you may feel nostalgia for this series when it didn't need dog poop jokes to liven it up.

Janet Evanovich's series with Steph Plum just keeps getting more and more hilarious and fun! Janet has the ability to draw characters like few other suspense thriller writers of her genre. I particularly enjoy the fact that they don't have perfect hair or leap over tall buildings in a single bound, but instead they find themselves in ridiculous situations that bring them the humanity and commonality that is so frequently missing in suspense novels. There is none of the perfect chisled characters who are wise beyond belief. But instead, we get Plum, her granny, her sexual desires, her cousin Vinnie, and failed attempts that make for great reading escapes and enjoyable entertainment. Be careful not to read this one in a public place because you'll find yourself bursting out loud with laughter and either someone will wrestle it away from you or they'll clear extra space for you. Who cares! Enjoy this "hot" sexy read and then get on to the next one.

Bond enforcement agent Stephanie Plum has a new man in her life. Bob has a golden aura with deep soulful brown eyes and is the most loyal devoted individual anyone can find. This canine is a delightful companion to Stephanie, perhaps more so than police officer Joe Morelli or fellow bounty hunter Ranger.

Stephanie's professional life is crazier than ever. She chases after a homicidal bail jumper while struggling with a friend contemplating suicide rather than jail. On top of all that she must keep Joe and his peers, her own peers, and several angry criminals away from Ranger, who everyone seems to want to question about a recent murder.

No one can create a humorous action-packed romantic mystery as well as Janet Evanovich can. The author is a master of characterization, who can turn homicidal maniacs into likable, but believable people. Recurring cast members augment the current tale while bringing a feel of déjà vu and a sense of New Jersey to the audience. Series fans will love HOT SIX giving it the high five with an elbowed twist while first time readers will delightfully feel they have pulled out a juicy plum.

Janet Evanovich's sassy, sexy heroine, Stephanie Plum, is a bounty hunter. Her usual targets are those who have skipped out on her employer, Max: A purveyor of bail bonds for some of New Jersey's most laughable--as well as most dangerous--alleged criminals.
She's a very likeable character, and her snappy dialogue, everyday tribulations, and downright nasty encounters with the bad guys keep you glued to the book. Unfortunately, "Hot Six" is that the plot is filled with holes, the characters and their actions are often way beyond believable, and the mystery is solved partially--through withholding some important information from the reader. Yes, this is a farce, and should not be taken too seriously, but Evanovich needs to infuse a little more credibility into the book to rank with the likes of Sue Grafton and other contemporary authors.
Evanovich is wildly popular right now, and I do recommend this book for breezy, page-turning fun. However, a little more credibility and development would put this in a higher echelon. Perhaps her newest book, "Seven Up" accomplishes that. This book, however, rates 3* as a mystery, but 5* as a fun vacation read. It averages out to 4* for breezy, snappy, page-turning fun.

Anyone who knows North Jersey will hoot over these characters -- terminally sleazy but with good hearts (well, sort of). This is the sexiest of the six books with Ms. Plum, although it is very tame by contemporary standards. Sexy, yes; but funny sexy. At one point Plum's boyfriend says if they don't get into bed soon, he will self-combust. "I self-combusted in the shower this morning," replies Plum, whose sex life is severely complicated because her pistol-toting, Spandex-wearing grandma moved in with her. The entire book is funny, but there are places in the book that will cause you to laugh so hard the people around you will think you've lost your mind. That is, unless they've also read this book. Then they will say, "The place where the dog who ate the the prunes got kidnapped?" and you'll say "Woooo! Heeeee!" and such. It's a delightful book and Evanovich is a gem.

After reading High Five last year, I've been waiting impatiently for Hot Six to come out. But I was slightly disappointed. Maybe it's just my own personal idea, but I would have liked it if Stephanie had done more with Ranger. Joe is a nice guy in the book, he's sweet considerate and all that, but there's something about the mysteriousness of Ranger that appeals to me. So that may be the only reason this book didn't seem great to me. Sure, the whole deal with the Ramos family was interesting as were her other FTA's (Failure to Appear) but it just wasn't as involved as the others. All the side characters in this book were very realistic. Though too much seemed like just a lucky coincidence. I mean, what are the chances of everyone in Jersey, the The Moon Man & The Dealer would be involved with everything. The Moon Man was one of Stephanie's FTA's, he then helped her get a new car from The Dealer, Stephanie used to go to school with them, they decided to host a Star Trek party that another FTA just happened to be at, they were the ones that just happen to have the money that Homer Ramos was suppose to have(which is what started the whole Ramos murder thing), and Homer hadn't even given the money to them another side character was going to throw it anyway(not realizing there was money in the bag). Hot Six was a really good book, just not quite what I was expecting. In the others, I always finished the book thinking 'alright, when does the next one come out.' But with the ending on this one(which I won't say so I don't ruin it for those who haven't read it), it seems like there is going to be an end to Stephanie freedom to fantasize about Ranger. And I like Ranger too much to have him step back and be Stephanie's friend and only her friend.

After rampaging through the first five novels in as many days, I was really looking forward to Hot Six, especially with that cliffhanger from High Five needing resolved. I expected what I got with that, and that was one of the first disappointments of this book.
Don't get me wrong, Hot Six is fun and funny, most of the time, but some of the humor seems a little forced and juvenile. I didn't find the dog funny, much less all the references to his bowel movements. YUCK. I just wanted Stephanie to take him to the pound where he would (hopefully) be put to sleep.
The plot dragggged along so much that this was the first Plum book in which I found myself skipping paragraphs, then pages to get to something more interesting. About 3/4 of the way through, I finally skipped to the end.
I find the love interest, Morelli, repulsive. He's a cookie-cutter romance book type of hero, and his nickname for Stepanie, "Cupcake," drives me up the wall. The sooner he's outta Steph's life, the happier I'll be. Ranger has possibilities. I do like how JE has been ever-so-slowly peeling back his layers. With each book, he gets more fascinating.
On the positive side, I simply adore JE's often brilliant observations about the Jersey mindset, like how Steph knew that the woman attempting suicide at the beginning of the book wouldn't do it when she was wearing a great leather jacket. No, she'd give the jacket to a sister THEN jump. These little gems of insight are what make JE such a delightful author to read, even when the whole of a book falls a tad short of the mark, as in this case.

I got a late start reading the series (last year) but read them all within a week's time. Ms. Evanovich just keeps getting better with each release. I didn't think she could top High Five but she did. I loved Hot Six and wrote to her at [email protected] and let her know. Don't ask me why but I want Stephanie and Ranger together, not Stephanie and Morelli (even though I like Morelli's character) but who knows whom she's going to end up with. I just wanted to mention there was one scene involving Stephanie and a FTA which made me laugh until I cried (but of course I can't say which scene). I read the passage to my daughter and it had the same effect on her. I read this book in a day's time and now I'm sitting here anticipating the next Evanovich release. If you haven't read this book you're definitely missing out on the excitement. Those of you who didn't like this book- - you gotta be kidding. Ms. Evanovich keep those books coming. I love them.

Okay, I admit it. I'm a middle-aged man hooked on Stephanie Plum mysteries (by Janet Evanovich). The characters are colorful and, to a great extent, believable. The dialogue is sharp, complete with modern slang used to a comical effect. However what differentiates each Stephanie Plum novel from the other is story (ie, the mystery element). Sometimes it's good, other times not so good ... as with 'Hot Six'.
In 'Hot Six' we have Latino-commando-stud Ranger in big trouble. He is suspected of murder and, of course, it is up to Stephanie Plum to prove his innocence. Sounds promising enough, but actually the story is pretty flat. And Evanovich is a bit too economical with the cleaver one-liners. Still, as always, the book is very readable in a breezy sort of way; you can't get better beach-reading material than this.
Bottom line: a dud by Evanovich's standards is still lots of fun. I eagerly await for her latest book to be issued in paperback form ... so I can take it to the beach!

Although the narrative of the lastest Stephanie Plum book, Hot Six, lacks some of the mystery element of previous volumes, the strong characterizations make it a worthwhile reading. The previous book ended in a cliffhanger regarding Stephanie's romantic decision between Joe Morelli and Ranger, and the reder of Hot Six doesn't have to wait long before discovering who Ms. Plum has chosen. Both Joe and Ranger figure prominently in this book, as does the usual cast of characters, particularly Stephanie's grandmother (who is sharper, and hipper than usually portrayed).
The local flavor of central New Jersey, and the humorous detours Ms. Evanovich takes the reader on, make Hot Six an enjoyable read. Ms. Evanovich makes the reader cares for the characters, and the characters' actions and reactions to the surrounding drama makes the novel fly along at a rapid pace.

Am a retired library buyer and this is a series I would have required two or three copies on the shelf and had half a dozen Interlibrary Loans pending. Anybody who is getting tired of it or says you can't have two boyfriends....I'm 66 yrs old and ..all I can say is GET REAL. Keep the stories coming- all the military and civilian wives at the library where I worked were very excited when this series came in: hardbound, paperback or audiobook. It's right up there with all the really good authors.

Janet Evanovich's books are an nice light laugh, like Dumb and Dumber for chicks. In this installment, Stephanie Plum gets involved in trying to sorta out a mess Ranger got involved in regarding the illegal drug selling family the Ramos'. Ranger is wanted for questioning regarding the murder of the Ramos younger son, and Stephanie wants to help clear his name. Meanwhile, the Ramos are looking for him, Morelli is looking for him and even a carpet seller Stolle is looking for him.
The best part about this book...we find out who Stephanie called in the last book, but was her decision permament? FIND OUT!

I, along with many other Janet Evanovich fans, have been waiting for over a year to find out the fate of Stephanie and which man she invited over. Well, I am not going to spoil that here, but you will not be disappointed! Stephanie is again up to her own unique bag of tricks in that her FTA assigned to her is none other than Ranger, the sexy bounty hunter that has taken Stephanie under his wing. She also encounters the usual problems of cars blowing up, being chased by a homocidal maniac, and GASP, Grandma Mazur has moved in with Stephanie and is gunning up to get her drivers license. For fans of Evanovich, this is a fantastic book! For the uninitiated, you really need to start this series, with 'One for the Money' and work your way up. Janet just improves herself with each book, and I literally end up laughing myself silly with tears streaming down my face. If you live in NJ, this is required reading!

More fun adventures with Stephanie, Grandma, Lula, Ranger and Morelli. There is a lot going on around Stephanie, and it's a good thing she seems to have nine lives. There are also a few steamy moments, which make for enjoyable reading.
I recommend reading the series in order numerically for best enjoyment. There is no graphic sex, but some bad language. But if you're looking for fun, escape reading, this is your ticket. Enjoy.

This book is so hot, you burn your fingers while you turn the pages. Stephanie is out dealing with the dregs of society while she tries to bring in her bond jumpers. But in this one she's got two new roommates. Grandma Mazur has moved in with her and she's acquired a part Golden Retriever dog called Bob. Stephanie's mentor and friend Ranger is in trouble in this one. It appears that he was seen leaving the scene of a fire where a corpse that had been shot was found. Stephanie's boss Vince wants him brought in, but Steph can't convince herself that Ranger could possibly have killed someone, and like she says, "he's smoke", so how could she catch him. But she tries to help him and by doing so gets involved in a mafia gang turf war that almost costs her her life. This book rollicks through to the conclusion like only Evanovich can. It's unputdownable, and the best in the series so far.

Lingerie-buyer-turned-hapless-bounty-hunter Stephanie Plum and her cadre of oddities return for another entertaining adventure-with attitude. The main plot has Ranger (formerly of the Special Forces and currently a man of mystery and world-class hunk) "wanted for questioning" in a case involving arson and murder. Stephanie refuses to take the case, but is stalked by thugs (funny, of course, but far from benign) who hope she'll lead them to Ranger. The due proportions of wacky relatives, vehicular destruction and loony (and occasionally homicidal) FTAs (bounty-hunter-speak for those on bail who "fail to appear" for their court date) mix with an ample dose of neighborhood atmosphere (Trenton, NJ) and the sexual steaminess that gives the book its title. Another highly amusing outing for Stephanie et al., but now we have to wait for number seven!

Heard the taped version of HOT SIX, another enjoyable entry in
author Janet Evanovich's series about bounty hunter Stephanie
Plum . . . this time the plot centers around a fellow bounty
hunter, Ranger, who Stephanie may or may not have a thing

I named this review Slap Stick" because if it were on TV right now that is how I would see it! as a bad slap stick movie that despite everything annoying it still holds my attention (I'm done with book Six and heading for Seven Up). I started reading Stephanie Plum literally two weeks ago and I have sailed through the first six books, I am however starting to see a pattern here which is not particularly positive, the stories are starting to take the same pattern and the bungling, would be! Bounty hunter is getting a little hard to swallow, true this is only supposed to be fiction but the imagination can only take so much. Sometimes I feel there is too much time spent on describing the characters over and over again, especially seeing when they are the same characters that appear in each episode, I am well aware after book two that Lula was a Hooker in previous employment and that Grandma Mazur moved in with Stephanie's parents after her husband went to the big poker game in the sky. And yes we all are now fully aware that Morelli played Choo Choo with Stepanie in his fathers garage when she was eight. Some of the apprehension failures by Stepahnie and Lula are just borderline insults on normal intelligence....But eh its all fiction right! BTW I would have shot Bob the dog after day two, what is the point in that dog's involvement in any of the stories. I love Rex though and without The Ranger I probably would have stopped reading after Book Two.

I know its a matter of taste and despite everything I will carry on reading these books because, I've started so I will finish.

Four Stars just the same from me and I would and have recommended this series to others.

Hot Six is like a breath of fresh air after going through the suffocating smog that called itself High Five. Stephanie's sixth outing is slightly better than her fifth.
For one thing, the romance sub-plot is not so prominent here as in the previous book. The humour which made the series popular is also back. Along with Grandma Mazur there's the Mooner, the Dealer and two vicious but thoroughly incompetent thugs who all guest star as Hot Six's comic casts. Mind you, they are not there just for the laughs. All of them are somehow essential to the overall plot.
The plot, as with all Stephanie Plum books, is not really important. It never has been. We read the books for the humour and/or the romance. In book six the humour level is up a notch and the romance down a notch, thank goodness. That made reading the 300-odd pages a breeze.
Better than High Five but not as good as One for the Money. So I'm giving it 3 stars.

Do you know how difficult it is to find contemporary female detectives who aren't overshadowed by romantic love interests, lesbian relations, high-tech computers/detection, inaccurate historical settings etc? Writers seem to change about their fifth novel--not so Evanovich--she just keeps churning out high quality Steph Plum stories.
I came across these when seeking texts for my contemp fiction class. I rejected the expected ones for detective fiction because they lacked some of the exuberance of what I feel is best in contemporary fiction. Evanovich created the perfect 90s female--youngish, single-ish, capable-ish, attractive-ish--Steph is never superwoman or frustratingly incompetent....
Read them in order--I started with _High Five_ and thought the romance got in the way. Then I went back to _One_ --ahhh, I got it.
Zany family, weird assortment of characters, this series *IS* laugh out loud funny--but for those who like their detective fiction pure ratiocination, then perhaps this is not the series of them.

Ms. Evanovich is the funniest author I have ever read. I read a variety of genres and try to read about five books a week. I can read one of Janet Evanovich's novels in about three hours and I always find them entertaining. I am writing about the Stephanie Plum series; I find her romances rather formulaic. I recommend the Stephanie Plum series as they never fail to entertain me when I'm in the mood for something light and hilarious.

Stephanie Plum is out of her element again, by getting involved with murder, mobsters, a FTA who likes to run over and mangle woman, cars being destroyed and Gradma Mazur moving in with her and the constant sexual tension between Morelli and Ranger. Now Plum has to retrieve, and pick up no other than Ranger! Being questioned for murder. And now she has a dog, "Bob" that is her partner in crime. I found it an amusing book but not one of my favories. It's like watching slap stick now. I feel like the stories and antics are getting tedious. I felt Bob was the highlight of the story.

Stephanie Plum is faces her biggest challenge to date: hunting down the sexy and enigmatic Ranger. Ranger has been a mentor to Stephanie since she joined the bounty hunter ranks. When Ranger goes FTA on a carrying concealed charged, followed by a wanted for questioning in connection with a murder charge, it's up to Stephanie to help Ranger out and stay alive at the same time.

When her arch-enemy Joyce is sent on Ranger's trail and blackmails Stephanie into handing over Ranger, Stephanie barely makes it out alive!

This is my favorite Stephanie Plum novel to date. By far the best in the series! It is filled with action, laughs and more of Stephanies hijinks as she tries to get her man.

On the one hand, this sixth book in the Stephanie Plum series has all the qualities of the previous five. Unfortunately, it also has all the same plot devices, with nothing new to enliven the mix. The novelty has worn off, and Stephanie is starting to look pretty shallow. What other grown woman is so devastated by a zit or so obsessive about sex? It's funny, but it's also getting pretty old.
The cliffhanger from the previous book is resolved with little fanfare and even less finesse, pretty much setting the tone for the entire book. The usual hijinks ensue with the usual crowd: Grandma Mazur, Lula, bumbling thugs (following her around, just like the last book!). None of this would be too bad if Stephanie herself would grow a little, but she's the same ol' Steph, sailing along without too much introspection.
I'm not even sure this book can be called a mystery, since very little sleuthing occurs, and the mystery is not so much solved as it is resolved. In the usual manner.

In the past three weeks I have read all the Stephanie Plum books. At the end of each one I eagerly grabbed the next. Not so with the sixth (which is a good thing, I guess, since the seventh won't be out for quite a while). It is funny and the characters and some of the scenes are memorable, but it just doesn't have the fire that the previous books did. One problem is that the three main characters seem so watered down. Morelli and Ranger have lost the element of sexy surprise they had in the previous books. Stephanie's reactions to the crazy and dangerous things that happen through the story are oddly subdued. However, you will probably get a big kick out of the book. I read it in an evening and will certainly read the next when it comes out. It just isn't as good as the others, which I thought were great fun.

Janet Evanovich's books are always a quick light read, so is this one too.
Stephanie Plum is helping(???) Ranger this time to solve a murder of Gun Mafia's son where Ranger is the suspect.
Of course, there are other incidents of apprehensions in the book. I ready variety of books and usually read Janet's when I want some laugh and quick easy read. I am not disappointed with this but at the end what happened with the money seems so made up, unreal. Whatever!!!...., in the last 40 pages the dots are connected.

Yeah!!, Lula could have appeared more. I read it more for Lula :-)

In Hot Six, Ranger is wanted for murder and Stephanie's cousin Vinnie wants her to track him down. No way could she ever bring Ranger in. Not only is he way smarter than that, but she likes him more than she should. Instead, she tries to help him and on again, off again boyfriend Joe Morelli-cop find the real killer. However, Stephanie does not have the same luck as the men in her life and only seems to run into more trouble with her wild friend Lula-ex prostitute and want to be bounty hunter. Together the two are laugh out loud hilarious.

Is it worth buying?

If you have read the other books in the series than absolutely. Every book leaves you wanting more.

So I bought "Hot Six" just to see what happened when Stephanie made the infamous phone call at the end of "High Five"! "Hot Six" was everything all the other books were: sassy, fast and leaving me wondering what else author Janet Evanovich has up her sleeve.
I had doubts as to the outcome of Ranger's predicament, but then, with heroine Stephanie Plum and her assorted cohorts and antagonists, anything can and usually does happen. Back in "Hot Six" are ex-ho' Lula and Stephanie's eccentric Grandma Mazur. Also back is Joyce Barnhart, Stephanie's arch-enemy. Die-hard Plum fans will thoroughly enjoy Stephanie's latest adventure and get caught up in Ms. Plum's heart-stopping life-style. Stephanie may leave her gun home in the cookie jar, but danger follows her around (literally). Ranger or Morelli? It doesn't matter, either choice is dangerous. Read the book. It is thoroughly enjoyable!

No mystery author has yet to give zits quite the zest that Janet Evanovich has in "Hot Six." "Six" is the latest in Evanovich's oft-zany, yet startlingly real-world-in-many-ways, detective series featuring the somewhat successful Stephanie Plum, bounty hunter. Plum #6 is also the sweetest fruit produced by Evanovich since we first met Steph, Grandma and the gang in "One For The Money," which actually ranks just below "Hot Six" in quality.
A mystery writer with only one protagonist (as opposed to Agatha Christie, for example)must meet at least two difficult standards on which the bar gets raised for each new book. Readers want the feel of familiarity, of "being family," but need more than nuturing. Readers need the satisfaction of a sustainable product, one in which the protagonist grows as a "person" or her accompanying cast of characters grows, changes, becomes more "real," whatever.
Example -- Sara Paretsky, one of the genre's crown princesses, is facing a lack of character development in detective V.I. Warshawski, her protagonist. In the past Paretsky has gotten around this problem by enriching the supporting cast including her friend the doctor and her neighbor with whom she shares dogs.
Example -- Marcia Muller's Sharon McCone is a well-developed character. And Muller clearly is also accruing some sweat equity by enriching the cast, including chronicling the evolution of the "All Souls Legal Cooperative" as it enters the 21st Century and by introducing new characters such as the latest love interest.
"High Five" had me worried that Evanovich was burning out. Steph's "people" were more interesting and multi-dimensional than Steph.
"Hot Six" shows every sign that Evanovich has recognized the problem and set about rectifying it. She took what could have been a mystery writer's deadly melanoma and turned it around with the help of a brilliantly written zit.
And she remains the only writer who has ever made me want to visit Trenton

NOBODY, but nobody can write a funnier, wittier, smarter or sexier book than Janet Evanovich. She is the reigning queen of the one-liner! I keep thinking there's no way that her books can get any funnier, but they do. This side-splitter sees Stephanie and Grandma Mazur becoming temporary roommates and Stephanie becoming the proud owner, of sorts, of a golden retriever, Bob. I think Bob stole the story from Grandma Mazur as far as hilarious scenes go. I don't even want to give one away, they're all so good. I highly recommend this book and ALL of Janet's books for a wonderful, light-hearted escape from reality. Reading her books instantly erases all of your worries and cares. Thank you, Janet, for another great Stephanie Plum story!!!!!!

Janet Evanovich has created a most hysterical heroine (yet again) in Stephanie Plum in this sixth adventure. Let me just say this about "Hot Six" I bought it 10 minutes after I finished High Five. No joke, I couldn't wait to find out who the lucky man in her life was, and what other FTA's might come her way, and how she will (eventually) get her man. I didn't really think I could ever like someone more than Kinsey Milhone of the Sue Grafton fame, but I do. "Hot Six" should keep you pretty much in stitches, or tears from laughing at the countless shenanigans Stephanie falls victim to. From the dog, to the Dealer and Mooner to her gun carring grandma, Stephanie handles it all with...ease? Oh, and don't let me forget about the two men in her life, Ranger and Morelli. Better yet, don't get me started. It's too good to tell! You'll have to read this book. There are no two ways about it. I would have given this book more than 5 stars on the rating scale, but they don't allow it! Anyway, READ it, LAUGH, and PASS IT ON to your friends and family. I bet a dollar to a doughnut, you'll hardly be able to wait for the next Stephanie Plum adventure!

I read One For the Money and got on a roll with Stephanie. These books are hilarious! I love mystery/thrillers and find these to be a welcome change from the blood and gore I usually enjoy so much. Stephanie is a riot and her Grandma is such a card that you just can't wait to see what she'll do next. I laugh out loud with these books and just can't wait for the next one to be published. I think that a mystery lover as well as a romance novel reader would love Janet's books. She writes to please and does a great job of it! I hope she plans to keep Stephanie Plum going for a long long time...anyone who reads these books will never get bored with the characters. Keep up the great work Janet! Stephanie Plum is one of my all time favorite mystery genre heroines! Why? She's cute, she has holes in her jeans, she's smart and sassy, and she's funny! Not just snickeringly funny, but gut-straining, bellylaughing funny. Imagine yourself curled up in front of a Michigan fire on a chilly spring day, all alone in your house, and laughing out loud...the dog looks at you in puzzlement, and the cat jumps off your lap. And you just keep laughing!
Stephanie Plum is THAT funny. And she's the lead character in a good mystery story as well. It's a good investment in a weekend, this novel. I recommend "Hot Six", and not just for laughs.

This is the sixth book in the series about Trenton, New Jersey's appealingly inept bounty hunter, Stephanie Plum. In this latest escapade, she is searching for her friend and fellow bounty hunter, Ranger, a man who definitely marches to the beat of different drum. Ranger is also sought by the police for questioning in the murder of an organized crime figure. Consider the fact that a couple of men from organized crime are tailing Stephanie in the hopes that she will lead them to her elusive friend, do you only just begin to understand her confusion. Our inept Stephanie believes Ranger is innocent and if anything, only kills bad guys. Her search is complicated by her obvious attraction to him, and simultaneously to her sometime lover, a vice cop named Joe Morelli. Add to that Stephanie's somewhat senile and lovable grandmother who has moved in with her granddaughter after a fight with her son-in-law, as well as a hamster who seems to be the most sensible character in the book, and a variety of unexpected mishaps, and the reader will laugh herself all the way to solving the mystery. Neat Book!

Stephanie Plum is a walking, talking riot. Grandma Mazur is even more of a pistol - and she has a falling out with mama and moves in with Stephanie. The continuing saga of Stephanie's car carnage, girls of the 'hood, and wonderfully troublesome men will not disappoint, but the reader will meet a wonderful new pet too. Another bounty hunt, another huge laugh, with the slapstick irreverence that Ms. Evanovich takes very seriously. You will need to watch where you read this book, for you will be hooting and laughing out loud all the way through it. If you have not read the delightful books beginning with "One for the Money" - I'd suggest you do that first.

HOT SIX by Janet Evanovich
In the sixth installment of the Stephanie Plum series, HOT SIX is yet another fun and exciting novel featuring this accident-prone bounty hunter. This time around, Grandmother Mazur has had a fight with Stephanie's father, so guess who is moving in with Stephanie?
Besides dealing with Grandmother Mazur's snoring at night, Stephanie's latest assignment is to track down her old buddy Ranger who is now a fugitive with the law. She also has two bumbling idiots following her wherever she goes, thinking that she would lead them to Ranger. Morelli is of course in the picture, and things are getting hot and heavy between the two of them. And Stephanie has also temporarily acquired a huge dog that cannot seem to stop eating.
I cannot express how much I enjoy this series. HOT SIX was yet another fun read and I am looking forward to the next one. Janet Evanovich, please do not stop writing these books!

Gotta love it. The sixth book in the Stephanie Plum series, and it's still fresh, hilarious and just plain good. Bondsman cousin Vinnie wants Ranger brought in, and Stephanie is right in the middle of it all. Bringing back some of the wonderful characters we are used to, adding several more, and giving us that dose of the Plum family we simply must have, makes this book hard to put down. Now.. what do I read next? The 7th Plum novel? Mmmm ... maybe. (Of course!) The 7th Plum novel would be good. Probably I should go get it right now. (Oh, Lord. I'm starting to talk her! i love the plum novels. i've finished several in just the last few weeks. i read some bad reviews on here, but those people must have been expecting oscar wilde or something! oy.

at any rate, i love the entire series. i only had one complaint with this book. the pakistani bad guy was a raging stereotype. of the worst kind. it's possible to have a muslim bad guy who isn't of the terrorist ilk. maybe just a bad guy from pakistan? i don't know any pakistanis (or muslims in general)that talk like he did, and there are oodles of them where i live.

otherwise great book!

I was disappointed in this book and felt that Janet was just going through the motions to meet her deadline. There were scenes that served no purpose and some things were resolved too neatly to be believed.
I still get a kick out of reading about Stephanie, Ranger, and Morelli, but this wasn't one of their best outings. I wish Janet would use Lulu and Joyce Barnhardt more. After all, why have such good friends and enemies if you aren't going to use them?
While I was happy to see who had been standing at the door from the end of book five, I was not at all happy with how this one ended. Sort of takes some of the fun out of the series.
This is still a good read, but not worth the price of a hardcover. I'm hoping that book seven will be on the same level as the first five.

Hot Six will leave you wanting more as the first five did. Should read these in order as you will understand them better. Stephanie Plum bring in Ranger, in your dreams. Ranger is suspected of murder. Murder of one of the local hoods. Ranger is really using Stehanie to help him find out who did kill Homer Ramos. The book is very funny in places. With Grandma and Lulu there is not a dull moment. Ranger is always great, Joe Morelli is his usual very good self. The two men who are following Stephanie are fantastic. Their experience with Bob, the dog, is great. A very good funny mystery. Be glad to get number seven.

This fast paced murder mystery adds humor and spunk to the typical drug deal gone bad. This novel is quirky, sexy, fun, intense and mysterious. If you enjoy mystery novels this takes the mystery novel and turns it upside down. This novel is the sixth installment of a sixteen part series. In this novel, Ranger, Stephanie's bounty hunter mentor has gone missing after being accused of murdering an infamous drug lord's son. Stephanie is then asked to find Ranger while taking on all of his high profile cases. In this novel she runs into some crazy bail jumpers as she normally does including drug indulgers "The Dealer" and Mooner, and Trenton's resident psychopath. Evanovich writes a fast paced murder mystery filled with humor and light heartedness. The humor is mixed with intensity and suspense.
I loved this book and am looking forward to reading the next book in the series. I want to see what happens in the lives of my personal favorite characters Joe and Stephanie. I want to see how their relationship advances. Thus far, their relationship has been on and off and hoping in the upcoming books their relationship will stay on. These books are a great read but they are not for every age. Due to the language, occasional violence and sexuality, this novel is not for all ages. I believe the target audience is women ranging from their thirties to their fifties. While I do believe this is the target range, other age groups would also enjoy them. I think younger ladies would also get a kick out of them. The humor is relatable for most ages, although the target audience could relate better to the characters. Beware, this series could be habit forming and lead to long, joyous nights of reading. Make sure you do not have to get up too early following the reading of these novels because you will be up late.

However, what really disappointed me was that this book didn't have any depth. It feels like an installment or chapter that was rushed out to the public in order to answer the burning question at the end of High Five and to be a bridge to the 7th installment.
As in the rest of the series, parts of this book are laugh out loud funny; once again Grandma Mazur and Lula are hysterical, and I love Bob; but a couple of funny scenes don't make a book. For me Hot Six didn't really advance the series, once the "which man was it" question is cleared up (and that's only given 2 pages), we're really no further into Stephanie's life than we were before.

Stephanie, Joe, and Ranger are back, marking the sixth in the "Stephanie Plum" series. From the closing of "High Five" the reader was left with the picture of Stephanie in a "hot" little black dress and someone saying "..nice dress, take it off." The reader has waited a year to discover who that person is. I'm not telling! As for the rest of the story...Trenton, NJ is still full of Characters who forget their court dates, one of whom is RANGER! The book is awash with the usual wonderfully whacky people who make Stephanie's job as a bounty hunter so challenging .PLUS....Stephanie's grandmother driving! This marks the official start of summer...DON'T MISS this BOOK, but you have to read 1-2-3-4-& 5 in order to appreciate "HOT SIX."

Very highly recommended!
Stephanie's new FTA is...Ranger? Yes! Ranger's in hiding because some people think he killed Homer Ramos. Steph decides to help him. He decides Steph needs rescuing from herself. Now and again, he gets a little fresh. No worries: Morelli is still in the mix. The hilarious Grandma Mazur has words with Mr. Plum and moves in with Steph. Are the streets safe when Grandma Mazur decides to get herself a driver's license? Heck no!
This is the funniest Plum book yet. I'm enjoying the stronger presence of Ranger in these books. I hope he'll be just as interesting in the next Plum installment!

The series starts with ONE FOR THE MONEY, then TWO FOR THE DOUGH, THREE TO GET DEADLY, FOUR TO SCORE, HIGH FIVE, and now HOT SIX. Delightful reading obscessions that are followed by an impulse contagion--Evanovich writes the singular type of book that you will want to share with everyone you know. Thoughful, well-planned mysteries, then add suspense, tension, and humbling, laugh-out-loud humor that keeps this story and all the Stephanie Plum series in the store.com's Top 100 sells!
Stephanie Plum is a hilarious bounty-hunter, former lingerie retailer, trying to make ends meet. In this particular story she is coaxed into capturing her bounty-hunter mentor--possible love interest--who has gone FTA--Failure To Appear at trial. But what about Joe Morelli, the cop, the guy from her teenage crush years? Enjoy!

Someone has shot Homer Ramos in his father's office building and then set the building on fire. Trouble is, there's a security tape showing the delectable Ranger as the last person out of the building. Jersey bounty hunter Stephanie Plum needs to find Ranger fast, for both professional and personal reasons. While Stephanie is busy looking for Ranger, her Granny Mazur moves in with her. Granny's taking driving lessons and the proud owner of a red 'Vette bought at a 'fire sale.' She's still toting her .45 in her purse and is as big a hoot as ever. Between Granny's snoring, arch-rival Joyce's hounding her, Ranger's midnight break-ins, and Morelli's proximity, Stephanie isn't getting a lot of sleep and a regular job at McDonald's is starting to look pretty good to her. To further complicate matters, Stephanie's being tailed everywhere she goes by two goons who work for a man who thinks Ranger has something that belongs to him and that Stephanie will lead him to Ranger. Lula and Connie are back in 'Hot Six', plus Bob, the dog Stephanie has inadvertently acquired. Bob is a loveable idiot who I hope sticks around. All of these volatile characters combust off the pages in an explosion of lunacy and laughs which is just sheer delight to read. I laughed out loud 'til my stomach hurt. The mystery gets solved and Stephanie escapes immolation by the seat of her pants; alas, another couple of her cars aren't so fortunate. Stephanie proves once again that she can get the job done, but her love life is as schizo as ever. Evanovich just keeps getting better and better. Bravo!

Once again Ms.Evanovich continues the Stephanie Plum perils. Per usual she totals a car and vacillates between two prime specimens of masculine availability. Yes, they represent two sides of Plum, but the question of which she'll choose when, especially in view of pistol packin grandma's ongoing interruptions,is a stitch. Between the cars, men, grandma and trying to pay the rent, one will be Plum tuckered and tickled too. You'll laugh out loud, and hold your breath awaiting the ongoing perils of Plum. Panting for the sequel of Seven and for Plum to pick Joe over the other guy.

This is another amazing "laugh out loud" story of Stephanie Plum.
As a bounty hunter, Stephanie runs into outlandish characters that seem so realistic you can easily picture them. Add in a devilish twist on her sexual adventures and you read quickly to get to the next page. A super read.

This is the sixth part in the Stephanie Plum series. None of these short, easy reads should be taken seriously, and if you are looking for a book to build brain cells, keep looking. You will enjoy this series more if you know what to expect out of the books and can read them for what they are: silly, fun, sexy, and full of giggles. All six, for me, have been light and funny, all six having the same flavor. But like eating six - not so good for you - yet, tasty potato chips, you tend to want another with a sense of mindless habitual consumption.

Once again, I read Evanavich's book so fast that I will have to twiddle my thumbs for a year to get my hands on the next one! Read them in order, read this one alone, but READ THIS SERIES if you love your heroine to be just as confused about life as the rest of us are! Stephanie deals with it all in this book -- a gorgeous cop, a mysterious "friend", two of the three stooges following her, a trekkie convention, a grandmother with no license...but a red corvette, a DOG and a HAMSTER! Throw in her buddies at the Bail Bond business, another car disastor or two, and a friend to talk down off a bridge and you have HOT SIX! It's a great read! My advice is to go to the library, the bookstore, get online, and get the first five books! Read them in or out of order --- you won't be able to NOT read all of Stephanie Plum's adventures and you won't be sorry!

This series about this misfit bounty hunter and her cast of dysfuntional friends and family members is incredibly entertaining. Try to explain to fellow customers at Starbuck's why I am just about doubled over in laughter about Bob in the McDonald's parking lot! (Go ahead, I dare you to try to read that section and keep a straight face!) And poor Bob and his prunes! Another fit of laughter where I literally had to put the book down and walk away and get control of myself. The only disappointment? Too short! I read this book in just a few hours! Can't wait for the next one!

Janet Evanovich out did her self with HOT SIX, the best so far in her Stephanie Plum series. Plum, bungling but lovable bounty hunter, acquires a dog then Grandma moves in and the riot that follows will have you laughing so hard you have to put the book down for a brief breather just to gain control. Plum's instincts are 'right on' and often keep the ultra nosy apprehension agent alive. I was already an Evanovich fan, this book just cemented the affair. Can't wait to see what she comes up with next.

i flet like Evanovich was trying to make is like the first Plum Novel, ONE FOR THE MONEY, becasue Ranger and Stephine have a little romance going on throughout... i felt like she was trying to top her first book and it was not working! the only charater that i really enjoyed thoughout was Carol. and thats about it.

This is a great book. Ranger is wanted and everyone thinks Stephanie will lead them to her. So as she drives around looking for him, she has a following. To top off that, Grandma has moved in and is hampering her on and off romance with Joe.
This is a wonderful book.
This series is wonderful. I have enjoyed every one of the Stephanie Plum books. I think that I have woken my husband up laughing out loud while reading every one. Just thinking about them makes me laugh. Even the dog is funny. My mother and I discuss them and all we have to do is mention a character and we laugh.

This book does NOT disappoint! The humor is laugh out loud funny - Bob and McDonalds and Bob and his deed in the Lincoln are hilarious. The sexual tension is there with Joe AND Ranger. The characters are so well defined that even though her relationship with Joe is sexy I must admit that I can NOT discount the wish to see what would happen should Stephanie and Ranger ever get together. Dougie and Mooner are off beat welcome additions while Habib and Mitchell seemed a tad bit contrived at times but truly had their moments. LOVE Lula and Steph's whole back up gang of femal friends. Grandma is right on and meals at Mom and Dad's are as good as usual. This book is a MUST read for all true Stephanie Plum fans! AWESOME!

Stephanie Plum, bounty hunter has been told by her cousin to bring in Ranger. Seems Ranger was the last person to see a another guy alive. Anyway the book starts of with our favorite cast of characters. Not to mention Grandma's taken to pack'n a .45 hand cannon in her purse! Poor Stephanie, her on again off again relationship with Morelli is currently off and she's getting death threats as usual. Its another good romping read in the day and life of Stephanie Plum, bounty hunter. Definately worth the read, especially if your a Plum fan.

A friend introduced me to Evanovich by making me read a few passages about Bob the Dog in Hot Six and Seven Up. They sounded pretty funny, so I went and bought One for the Money to try them out. I'm not generally a mystery reader, I find them pretty boring.
OK, I'm hooked! Stephanie Plum is the best new female protagonist in my world! I finished books one through six in record time, and am borrowing Seven Up from my friend because I just can't wait any longer!
Definitely a good buy! Hey, Janet, can't you write any faster?

Janet Evanovich's books are so much fun to read, a strong plot line isn't really necessary, but this one actually has a pretty good one. Stephanie Plum is on the trail of a family dealing guns and maybe drugs. She is also trying to clear her friend and fellow bounty hunter, Ranger, from a suspicious situation. Two new characters, Mooner and The Dealer add to the fun. The sexual tension involving Stephanie's love interest, Morelli the cop, is alive and well. Evanovich delivers an excellent read with this book and surpasses expectations for another good tale.

My wife has read all of Evanovich's books to date, listening to her laugh her way through I decided I must be missing something. I found it great, having owned a business during the 70's in Hamtramck Michigan I found many of her characters to be closer to fact than fiction. I have known many personalities that she discribes. I am sure she has led a close life to her stories to write so well on them. I plan to read more of her books in the future, I have no doubt they will be better than the first, and it was outstanding.

This is another series that I really like, the Stephanie Plum novels. I have managed to read this series in order, which adds to the enjoyment. Stephanie is a kinda crappy but very lucky female bounty hunter. She lives in New Jersey, like I do so I get to read about places I've actually been, which is nice. Stephanie had some crazy adventures as usual, but the surprise ending really got me. Like tears in my eyes, got me. It's a lighthearted mystery that managed to almost make me cry.

There is only one thing wrong with Janet Evanovich's books. THEY END!!
Once again Janet has managed to write a book that cannot leave your hands until you have read the last sentence (and eagerly read the sample of the next one). Steph's family and friends are still as entertaining as they were in the first book and every suspensful section with included Ranger had me glued to the pages.
You won't be dissapointed with this one. But if you are familiar with the Stephanie Plum series you already knew that.

Over four books, I got know and anticipate Stephanie Plum. The humor, the unexpected, Morelli, then Ranger. I remember laughing so hard in Four to Score I knocked a lamp over. And then there was High Five and the ending that was just plain mean. But it did it's job and I bought Hot Six just to find out who. Who did she call?
While Hot Six is a pleasant read, it's such a let down compared to her earlier works. I feel like Five was nothing but a cheap trick to get you buy the next hardback, and I feel like a bit of fool for doing it. Wait tell paperback.

This is clearly the best of the series to date. It helps if the reader has an understanding of the characters and their relationships to one another from reading a previous book. However, even to a new reader who is being initiated to Janet and Stephanie, it should still provide a lot of laughs. I have read many books this summer and this is the best one to date. I am clearly hooked by Stephanie and look forward to reading about her in Janet's next effort. I can't wait for it to come out, and I can't stop recommending Evanovich to others.

Janet Evanovich outdoes herself yet again in Stephanie Plums sixth thriller.
Fans of Evanovich won't be disappointed when the mystery man at the door at the end of HIGH FIVE is quickly revealed, but Stephanie is quickly on to another thrilling mystery. This time Ranger is wanted for murder and it's up to her to help clear his name.
Once again, lots and lots of laughs, including many highly entertaining new characters. (not to mention a new twist is thrown in at the end. guess we'll have to wait until book seven to have that answered) Highly recommended

Deep into the series, it is still going strong. As always Stephanie is likable in her hapless way, and you find yourself rooting for her, and not being surprised when she survives impossible situations.

The story equals any of the previous books, except perhaps for the first. Moving Ranger form ally to ally/skip was a great idea. While I love the Mazur character, her sub-plot was a little un-interesting. This however doesn't greatly take away from the overall story.

I discovered Evanovich's Stephanie Plum series the last week of May 2000. Books one through five were finished by June 10, 2000. Hot Six was released June 20th, and I finished it on June 22d. Look, I have a life, honest. Mystery books come in and go out of my bookshelf. This series is here to stay. In Hot Six Evanovich continues to satisfy the demands of this picky reader. Stephanie Plum, still-learning bounty hunter from the burg of Trenton NJ finds herself in the middle of it again, with favorite characters present and driving poor Stephanie nuts: Grandma Mazur, the gang at Vinne's bond office, the ever elusive Ranger, and of course everyone's favorite handsome rouge cop, Joe Morelli. Not just more of the same though. Evanovich adds new colorful characters to her well-developed cast, folks I hope we'll see again. The book jacket tells you about the story. Let me tell you why you should read it. This book, like the rest in the series, is fast-paced and full of humor, from the tried and true characters, to the new and often nutty characters. So many mystery books have "downtime", where we leap into the next day or skip over how we get some information, and forget the drugery of meals. Hot Six if full of detail, and the belly laughs come from the detail. Hot Six takes you all the way, showing you the day in and out, with all the guffaws. It draws its humor during "down" times in the case - the surveillance, the what-is-going-on-in-the-world-while-the-main-chase-is-on. Evanovich has a true talent for efficiently developing her characters into lively personable and oh so funny people that could, but thank goodness some don't, live next door. All this, while still developing a main plot engine that drives the story ahead at an impossible-to-put-down pace. I laughed out loud throughout this entire book. I've read some good mysteries. This series is the best, and Hot Six has lived up to this reader's expectaions and anticiapations.

"Hot Six" starts up just where "High Five" left off ... Is it Ranger? Or is it Morelli? The lover dilemma is the least of Stephanie's problems because she's got her hands full with Carla's misdemeanors, Mooner the spaced-out druggie, Dougie the Dealer, Grandma Mazur, Mitchell & Habib, Alexander Ramos the chain-smoking gun-runner, and Bob the Dog. How does Stephanie handle all of the new stresses in her life? Acne and a never ending cast of automobiles ... I greatly enjoyed this book (as I have all of the "Plum" series) ... in fact, I devoured it in about three hours. Fans of Janet Evanovich need to add this book to the growing collection; new readers need to buy all six and make a weekend of it. The "Stephanie Plum" series is a real gem; there is no series like it!

A dog named Bob. She's also got a new roomie...her grandmother, who's learning to drive. And in addition to dealing with Grandma and Bob, she's got a new case. Ranger's wanted for questioning about a murder and it's up to Stephanie to help her mentor out of trouble. With a bit of assitance from Bob and her other friends, Stephanie is on the case. In the course of things she's shot at, set on fire and kinapped...but that's just another day on the job for Steph.
A delightful romp through Trenton, NJ with the best bounty hunter around!

And what is that flaw, you ask? Faithful readers of this series surely already know the answer: why oh why, Ms. Evanovich, do you make your main character so inept at her job? The author seems to think that Stephanie's incompetence and gullibility are amusing. Perhaps screwing up royally once in her efforts to bring in a person would be understandable and could be portrayed in a humorous way, but twice in a row? Three times in a row? And don't get me started on falling out of a tree into a presumed bad guy's back yard. I'm sorry, but to me all this incompetence takes away so much from the character--a character whose other outstanding characteristics are overshadowed by her incredible ineptness in doing her job.

I enjoyed this book. Miss Plum gets a lot of action, some with cop Morelli. The bounty hunter business can be very humorous. Steph has a hamster named Rex and in this book appears a rambunctious dog named Bob. Her Glock totting voluptuous partner( in some cases), Lula, is becoming a tuff broad. Ranger, the mysterious Latin investigator, makes your mouth water. The plot about the Ramos family, gunrunning, drugs, missing cash, dead bodies turning up, is a little vague. But Hey! go get um Steph.

Another fun one from Evanovich! This time Ranger's definitely on the wrong side of the law, and Stephanie's the one who's got to bring him in. As you can imagine, that is easier said than done. And, of course, Stephanie has some other obstacles to peace and happiness, including her Grandmother who is now living with her, a deranged killer wanting her for his next victim, and Bob, the canine eating-pooping machine. This one proves as enjoyable as the rest.

Newest adventures of Stepanie Plum would make even the strongest women break down,,, but our Ms. Plum. Wacky, fun, witty ,fast paced.. all those things we expect from J.E's books & more. I thought I had "interesting" relatives, she has to deal with her grandmother from H**L and at least my live in dog in fully house trained. Tying up the straggling ends of the last book(men), BUT giving us a new ones at the end of this one. Does she think we won't be back for more? With this great series, Nah...

I envy the new reader who picks up "One for the Money", Evanovich's first book. He/she has the whole series waiting to be enjoyed. Evanovich's characters are never just good or bad and they're all just slightly off the wall. The criminals are more "Guys and Dolls" than "The Godfather", but they're still nasty. Grandma is a treasure and has become my personal role model for my Golden Years! Throw in a lot of love interest, a little mayhem, and lots of laugh-out-loud humor and you've a another winner!

Janet Evanovich gets better with each entry into her Stephanie Plum series. The laughs are aplenty. The new characters are zany -- a doped up friend from the nabe, Mooner, and a goofy dog, Bob. The old ones, like Grandma Mazur, and Vinnie, get funnier AND more complex with each book. Evanovich not only supplies laughs. She plots an intricate thread, and we get to unwind it along with Stephanie. And this is one of the best mysteries in the wonderful series. Can't wait for Seven!

Evanovich starts off right where she left us in High Five. It's a good thing she gets that over with from the beginning because from the revelation of who is at the door (no spoiler here), she takes the reader running through a laugh-out-loud bounty hunting extravaganza that involves the usual suspects as well as a couple of surprises. The doper ex-high school classmates that drop in and out of scenes are a funny and picturesque addition. Most of the neighborhood derelicts are pretty hilarious but one of my favorite characters has to be Lula, who carries some of the best one-liners in the story.
The sexual tension between the protagonist and (oh, I just can't say) is never compromising or unwavering. Evanovich is never cute -- only cutting, and as strong as ever.
I especially enjoyed her pulling Grandma into this one because Grandma (spandex and all) is looking for her own adventures when she moves in with Stephanie.
There was only one time I had to say, "no, Stephanie, don't be so stupid." Other than that, she is just as smart and savvy as ever and her cast of characters (especially Bob) is doggone good!

I came upon Janet Evanovich's Stephanie Plum mysteries a few months ago, so I have not been waiting as long as some of her fans, but I still eagerly awaited this book and was not at all disappointed. Ms Evanovich manages to produce as many laughs in this installment as in any of her previous works and the romantic involvements of Stephanie, Joe and Ranger seem as true and as engaging as ever. I laughed out loud several time while reading this book and that is unusual for me. Despite having read all the automotive pyrotechnics involved in the previous five books, I still laughed myself silly at the way in poor Mtichell and Habib become "car-less" in this story. I have to commend Ms Evanovich for keeping this convention, and this entire series, fresh. I am now worried that I may have to wait an entire year to find out what Stephanie does next. I only hope that Ms Evanovich can find a way to weave all of the wonderful supporting players from the previous stories into her next book. I am wondering what Sally Sweet is doing now. And Briggs? I would recommend this series to anyone who appreciates a good laugh disguised as a mystery and to anyone who, like myself, enjoys a story with a strong sense of place. I have not spent much time in New Jersey, but I feel as though I know Trenton because I have seen it through Stephanie's eyes. If you have not yet read any of Janet Evanovich's work, I would suggest you start with One For The Money and have a great time working your way to this book.

This was one of my top Plum books - you can't beat Grandma Mazur and Ranger's mystery.

Anyone looking for intelligent reading is not going to find it here. Not to say these books are dumb, but they fall far on the side of fun reading. Some might see them as formulaic but how can you not love Stephanie Plum and her Grandma Mazur? There are a lot of authors I wouldn't read because I think they just switch cities and character names, but I just plowed through 3 of them in 3 days. They're addictive and laugh-aloud funny and I would recommend them to just about anyone.

I picked up Hot Six on a summer vacation, the store didn't have the other five in the series. Stephanie Plum is SO funny, I actually laughed out loud. The storyline followed something I might have seen on a happier Law and Order. It was awesome. The characters were incredable, I fell in love with all of them. And this book was no without a bit of romance, but not the sappy kind . . . the real kind. This book was so great, that I went out and bought all of the other books in the series. As with the other 'Plum' books by Evanovich, this is a (too) fast read. Now we have another long wait until #7. Grandma is still a hoot! A few new memorable characters team up with the regular cast to provide some summer comic relief. Make sure you have a few uninterrupted hours when you start this book, because you won't want to stop reading until you finish the last page. The book is about a bounty hunter and her crazy family and friends. Throw in some romance; what more could you want! Not a cliffhanger ending like 'High Five', but I'm already waiting for #7. Can't you just picture these books being made into movies? If I wanted to be really picky, I'd complain about the men tailing Stephanie. They are supposed to have done some really awful things to people, yet they are bumbling idiots. Just don't think too hard about stuff like this, because then you can enjoy the humor. If you've read 1-5, get started on 'Hot Six'; if you aren't familiar with Stephanie, Joe, Ranger, Lula, etc., I'd suggest starting with 'One For the Money', so you can enjoy the other plots without knowing how they end. Happy reading!

Janet Evanovich's newest book is an excellent addition to the Plum series. This book is very suspenseful and very funny. Ms Evanovich has a real gift for creating memorable, quirky characters that really add to the story. If you enjoyed the other books in the series this is a MUST read. After waiting what seemed like years, the new Janet Evanovich book "Hot Six" finally was released June 20. (Did you know you can't bribe booksellers to sell earlier than the release date?) This book was a great read! Enthralling from the first paragraph, the book takes you on a joyride through the colorful world of Trenton, New Jersey. Starting the book at 12:20 a.m. and finishing at 4:44 a.m., I couldn't put this book down. The situations confronting Stephanie Plum, bounty hunter, were hilarious. I laughed so hard I was afraid of waking my family. The hardest part of reading this book is knowing you have to wait for the next one to be written before you can continue reading the further adventures of Stephanie Plum. This sixth entry into the Stephanie Plum series is another strong effort. She and Lula continue to make you laugh out loud as they go about their bounty hunting ways. For all those fans who have followed bounty-hunter Stephanie Plum's haphazard adventures, 'Hot Six' is well worth the wait. Those looking for a funny and exiting read will also be fulfilled. Stephanie runs through the book in a comedy of errors; plagued by a killer zit, Pakistani hitmen and her near senile Grandma Mazur. Ranger, Stephanie's mentor and sometime partner (not to mention object of her lust) has Failed To Appear to court. To make matters worse, he was caught on security camera leaving a building that was soon after torched, and contained one very dead gangster's son. Stephanie tries to help him stay on top of the law (and is dangerously near to ending up underneath him) as well as dealing with a new room-mate (her Grandma), a new furry friend, a boyfriend so hot that he's almost melting, and a plethora of dangerous but amusing FTAs. The gang from Vinnie's Bond Agency are all there, Lula, Connie and even the repulsive Joyce Barnhardt. It has been interesting to follow the character growth of (especially) Stephanie and Joe Morelli. We find this here as Stephanie gets a little more hardcore and Joe shows one or two emotions. This book slots in perfectly with the continuing Plum Saga, Evanovich proves that sequels can still be rivoting and quality material. And as for the end...... well all I can tell you is that Evanovich throws in another surprise, and leaves me waiting on the edge of my seat for the next book! Read it for yourself!

I got it wrong...but that's all I'll say as I don't want to spoil the surprise! Hot Six is more of what Plum fans have come to love; a steady turnover in Stephanie's cars, an intriguing mix of bail jumpers; some hilarious, some deadly and of course, Steph's love life, family and pet(s) are as off beat, frustrating and amusing as ever. The plot is interesting but as usual is more of a backdrop to the frenetic lifestyle of the heroine. I loved it and read it in a few hours, despite trying to make it last. Stephanie appeals on so many levels; she has two incredibly sexy men in her life, an exciting job ( within the pages of a book at least) and raises success through incompetence and luck to a fine art. Realistic it's not but who wants realism? Funniest part? Has to be Stephanie being driven away by a taunt about her pimple from someone she's supposed to be grilling. I never realised having a spot could be so character changing.....

Hot Six is hands down one of my favorites of Janet's Plum Series. I was trying to read quietly in the bathroom, sitting on the edge of the tub in the middle of the night (couldn't put it down) ... and I kept waking up my husband who was sleeping in the bedroom. I laughed so hard my cheeks ached, and I kept falling off the edge of the tub. I couldn't put it down until I finished it. Mitchell and Habib ... and Bob the dog ... dog nap scene ... sooooo freaking funny! Read this book!!!! 8, 10, and 12 are must reads, too!!!!

"Hot Six" was great! Stephanie and Grandma Mazur make a VERY swell pair! Now that Joe Morelli finally realizes what's at stake he might take action in #7. Steph's mom and grandma Mazur are favorites and Mooner and Dougie are newcomers. This book beats number "High Five" by a long shot! Read them all but........start with number one so you know what's going on!

We have read all the other books of Janet and were looking forward to this one, which came out on our 47th anniversary. It certainly didn't let us down, I am only sorry we have to wait for the 7th one. My husband is from Jersey and probably this adds to our enjoyment, since Janet is so right on with her characters, especially Grandma. I have also enjoyed telling my friends about Janet, and we have such great discussions about her books. My local used book store owner Ginger, of Books, Books, Books, in Ramona, CA, shares my enthusiasm. Keep them coming, Janet.

She's done it again!
Hot Six continues the rollicking fun of this series. In fact, I think this is the best so far. Once again, I laughed out loud at the descriptions and actions of the quirky characters that enliven this series.
From her new dog Bob(whose bodliy functions add to the fun) to Habib and Mitchell(whose threats to Stephanie and car troubles alsp bring chuckles) to the old stand-bys of Grandma Mazur(now her roommate) and Lulu(still ready to eat or fight), Evanovich's characters fill the book with funny, fast-paced action as Stephanie's main task is to bring in the bail jumper-Ranger!
If you're an Evanovich fan, you're in for a treat. If you're not a fan yet, you will be when you're done.(You'll also never look at a meatloaf quite the same again!) PS-The prologue begins exactly at the point High Five ended. My guess of the identity of her evening's guest was right!

I have been working my way through the Stephanie Plum series, and I think this is the best one of the first six by FAR! Stephanie Plum is funnier than ever in her wacky bounty hunter adventures. And both Ranger and Joe seem HOTTER than ever! I can't wait to get the next one! Highly recommended for anyone who's looking for something light, fun, and hilarious.

This latest entry in the Stephanie Plum series by Janet Evanovich is hilarious and fully up to her usual standards. Fans who have followed Stephanie's progress as a bounty hunter will be proud of her as she tackles some of the biggest challenges in her new career: bringing in a homicidal rapist FTA, babysitting a friend's dog, and providing room and board to Grandma Mazur. If you liked HIGH FIVE, you'll love HOT SIX. And yes, you'll find out who was at the door.

Being in many Detective, Thriller, Mystery, and other book clubs,(7) I grabbed this as part of "pick free 6 books." I had no idea it would be a keep me up all night. It IS a mystery and with a bounty hunter has action though from many of the other reviews you may get the idea that it's "just" a comedy. It is funny, in many ways like life just gets wierd and funny, yet gets you upclose and feeling like you know the quirky characters, and I certainly enjoy Stephanie Plum, as in "I'd love to have lunch or go for a drink with her." Now I want to get all her others. If your regular cup of tea is Kellerman, Cannell, Cornwell, Sandford, Patterson, etc. etc.- give this a try and you may be as surprised and delighted by this very cleaver, talented writer who's genre is a wonderful mix.

In her usual wacky style, Janet Evanovich has come up with another winner. Suspense, intrigue, and foreplay that will keep you guessing till the very end. There are, of course, a few extra twists and turns in this one, in the relationship between Joe Morelli and Stephanie Plum. Ranger, the sexy bounty hunter, disappears when he becomes a suspect in a murder. The inevitable sexual tension with Ranger escalates as Stephanie comes to his aid in order to secretly help solve the murder in which he is implicated.
The usual wacky storyline, a few wacky characters, lots of sexual tension, and a few dead bodies for good measure. You'll be laughing out loud before you realise. Stephanies somewhat predictable bad luck and 'accidental hero' status will have you smiling the whole way through.

I have loved each and every book in this series so far. And have found HOT SIX like all of Janet Evanovich's other books to be very funny. She never fails to make me laugh. I highly recommend giving this a read. Plan on laughing a lot!

Don't buy Evanovich when you're after a nail-biting, logical, dark, deep, keeping-you-up-all-night thriller. Don't read Plum when you want something that makes sense, no loose ends, all tied up nicely.
Buy her when you care about laughing-out-loud, read her when you like a hilarious character. She's top of line when it comes to the absurd (Grandma Mazur is only one "item" to mention).
Maybe this series can't go on much longer without getting repetetive and ridiculous, but I'm sure Ms Evanovich will come up with something new and equally entertaining! Just one thing - DON'T ever make it a movie! Leave it to our imagination! I'm sure we all know how Ranger and Morelli just HAVE to look like in our (okay - female!) minds. And I just can't think of any actor playing Rex...

I've been looking forward to this release since I finished "High Five" and it proved to be just the pick-me-up I needed. Laughter truely is "the best medicine" and Stephanie's escapades with Lula, Ranger, Morelli, Grandma and now, Bob the dog got my endorphines flowing with all the laughter I experienced. Of course, I got a few stares from strangers who passed me while I was laughing but who cares, it was a wonderful book and I'm going to re-read books 3 through 5 (I read 1 & 2 again earlier in the year).

I enjoyed reading this and have to admit to laughing out loud at some parts, however it could be just as funny without the bad language. I have a 13 year old that loves to read and I cannot let him read this due to the continous bad language. The book is sillier than her others too, therefore, based on these two things, I probably won't buy her next book - instead rent it from the library and if the language is still offensive, I probably won't be reading her anymore..

I read the reviews of this book before I read it and wish I hadn't. The knock at the door from the last book was not worththe hype friends and I had thought about. The rest of the book made up for the lapse. I laughed out loud and enjoyed the whole book. I hope Bob continues is book 7! This is a fun book! If you've never read any of Janet Evanovich's books, I would recommend that you start with the 1st book.

This book was so FUNNY!!! I was laughing so hard in places, usually where Bob, the bullimic dog was around, tears streamed down my face!

This book is what I read when I'm feeling a little down, cause I will be laughing soon after picking it up.

Evanovich has done it again -I read this book in less than 24 hours (and did not cut work to do so!)I laughed out loud -Plum's new friends are weider and crazier than any introduced to date, but Bob the dog takes the cake (literally!). The scene in which Bob rescues himself is Evanovich at her most brilliant! A great beach or vacation book - if you can put off reading it that long. After the cliff hanger ending of the previous book, I couldn't wait to get my nose into this -and Evanovich leaves us hanging at the end of Hot Six. Groan -How fast can you write, Janet?

I started reading these books this past summer on vacation. When I came back to civilization I headed straight to the book store to find some more of them. For some reason, these books just crack me up. They are laugh out loud funny to me... Being from California, I guess the setting has a stong appeal - hard to believe that people actually live in New Jersey. Plus Stephanie is really a goof ball, very silly and mostly not very "Sherlock Holmes-like" at all. The plot is sort of secondary to the very well drawn characterizations and locations. I love her family and all the bad guys are really really slimy. Just a hoot.

I always expect fun when Stephanie Plum is in the picture and Janet Evanovich doesn't disappoint with Hot Six. This is my favorite so far of the series - probably the funniest and most entertaining. I wish there were more Plum books, so I could go back and read them again.

The latest in this series does not disappoint. Stephanie Plum, a former lingerie-buyer turned bounty hunter, is back with her New Jersey attitude and her wry, sardonic humor in tact. Steph's sexy mentor/savior, Ranger, is on the lam and everyone (good and bad)is in on the hunt. The mystery in the novel is less compelling than the characters but this is not a bad thing. Janet Evanovich has a way of making the characters in her book jump off the page, grab you by the neck and take you for the ride of your life. This series is like potato chips -- one is never enough. Read one and you'll want them all.

I could not wait for the new book...well, I must be honest and say, it is not as good as previous books. There are very funny moments but it seem that Janet Evanovich is trying to make every moment funny, which gets boring after a while.
I will still buy # seven, but PLEASE Janet add more substance!

My sides hurt from laughing! This book is classic Evanovich. The secondary characters are hysterical as are the scrapes Stephanie finds herself in. And the sexual tension could start a fire! Warning--don't start the book until you have several free hours because you will not want to put it down for a moment. Plan on eating a Pop Tart for dinner and read on!

I don't know what part of this novel is the funniest. Is it the grandmother? The dog? The badass that keeps jumping into Stephanie's blue '53 Buick? Or the dead guy sitting in a lawn chair and strapped down with a bungee? Stephanie Plum is the Lucy Ricardo of the new millennium.

I have read all the books in this series, and this is the best, yet. Her characters are believeable, even when they are involved in downright unbelievable activities. Grandma M. just keeps getting funnier, if that's possible, and the addition of the golden retriever, Bob, is perfect. Janet E. has the ability to take a sentence and make it hilarious or steamy with a simpleness which is charming. This is a MUST summer read... I wish she wrote faster; It's tough waiting all year for the next one...

Ordinarily, I get a kick out of Evanovichs' Stephanie Plum novels--they are great for a quick fun read. Evanovich's HOT SIX, however, may have taken a good thing too far. The zany characters--especially Grandma and the car disasters--continue to evoke laugh-out-loud laughter in a couple of places, but something falls short in this sixth escapade. Morelli on the fringe does not cut it, nor does the weak plot around Ranger. Somehow the Ranger/Stephanie combo just didn't set right with me. Lagging zip in the story was all to evident; hope the next one is better.

Like a fine vintage wine, Janet Evanovich is getting much, much better with age - or at least Stephanie is. Janet has outdone herself with this book. A wonderful combination of excitement, elements of danger and some really, truly funny moments. This book is a fast read - you will want to find our more about what each of the characters are doing. This book also introduces us to some of the funniest folks - especially the dog, move over Rex. I really enjoyed this book and have recommended it to many and shared my copy with family and friends.

Just like all of the Stephanie Plum novels, Janet Evanovich has once again scored a hit with this book. You are taken for a thrill ride through her many adventures, and all of the old, familiar characters return from the previous books in the series. This book is a must for anyone who is into Janet Evanovich!

Stephanie Plum is back and hip deep trouble. Ranger's on the run and wanted for murder, and trusts in Stephanie's less than polished skills to help. Morelli is acually on his side too, making Stephanie's love life quite a bit more complicated. And all of this while Grandma Mazur has moved in. Oh, and she gets a dog. Evanovich's fast paced style and laugh out loud humor makes this a great book- the sexiest Sephanie Plum yet. I can't wait for the next one!

This book was awesome, the last book left a few strings lose which credit goes out to Janet for here tactfulness. This book not only gives you a good rush, like all of the other ones, which are so known for doing. It also ties up the lose ends and answers the qusetions which arose from her last. The book, I finished it in no time. I couldn't put it down. And now that I'm done I want more! So hurry up Janet! Anyways, I'd give this book six stars, but there wasn't a six star rating, so I guess I'll have to settle for five *pooh* ~Thanxs

I've read the first 6 books and will stop there. They're okay. Stephanie is incompetent and doesn't seem to learn from her mistakes. The books follow a formula: at least one apprehension goes stupidly wrong and she has to try 2 or 3 more times; she forgets her gear at least once per book; her mom is horrified and suggests a job at the button factory, etc.

Janet Evanovich has done it again! Stephanie Plum is doing what she does best and especially with a Jersey attitude -- catching bail jumpers, spying on gunrunners and the mafia, choosing which man is right for her, and babysitting a friends dog all at the same time! Treat yourself to this Evanovich "special" and block out four hours ... you won't want to put it down after reading the first page!

I'm a fan of the Stephanie Plum series. It's a lighthearted, hilarious read. The unlikely scenarios aren't meant to be taken too seriously. I love the cultural context of life in The Burg in Trenton, NJ. I'm not from NJ but I have friends who can relate.

I love this book. I laughed out loud many a time while reading this book. Many authors can be humorous or take you to the edge of your seat (page) but few can do both. Out of all of her books, I cannot say which I like more, but I can say I do like them all.

In this latest Stephanie Plum outing Janet Evanovich has a definite winner. This was probably one of the funniest Stephanie Plum books yet. The writing was snappy and refreshing. WOW! Hot Six picks up right where High Five left off, which is excellent, except Janet Evanovich leaves us all hanging at the end of Six as well... Excellent story line- TONS of laughs, and lots of tension with Morelli and Ranger. This is my first novel by Janet Evanovich. Her writing is easy to read and interesting enough. I would not say that this is the best book I've ever read, but I did enjoy it. Adventure, comedy and sex (or the frustrations of trying to get it) all rolled up in a ball.

I don't know how she does it, Evanovich has scored a ten with Hot Six. Once again Stephanie is in over her head with international gun dealers, small time and wanna be crooks and of course, Joe Morelli.
You know she totals a car, has all kinds of almost biblical interactions with Joe and Ranger. Granny Mazur, Lula and the rival bounty hunter all play a role.
I laughed so hard I cried and now wait with baited breath for the next rock and rollin ride in Seven What!

My friends and I have looked forward to the release of this book all winter and we weren't disappointed. We have read all the books in this series, passing each around like a box of candy. The Stephanie Plum character is sponky, klutzy, and lovable. My friends and I can identify with her, living out each and every adventure and romance.
