I need to find a hidden cache of Janet Evanovitch books that no one has read, because her books are so good! This story had me bouncing up and down in my seat toward the end, willing Riley and Emerson and crew to move faster. Loved it!

In spite of some poor reviews of the two books in this series, being the independent minded reader that I am, I plunged right in. The stories are Evanovich-quirky; I had expected that much and was pleasantly pleased. I am an obsessive fact/history/trivia reader, and I spend a great deal of time on-line, getting background data and information, following hyperlink after hyperlink. I love Kindle for providing ease on all my reading. Now I have file after file of new, very interesting information to place in memory. Five stars? After enjoying a comfortable, crap on a cracker, researchable read, I am satisfied. If you're not into facts behind fiction, don't worry. These are two fun reads as only Janet Evanovich can author.

This is the second book Emerson Knight and Riley Moon series from Janet Evanovich. This book follows Emerson and Riley as they start working on a case of a missing island. Emerson has the grand idea of finding out what happened to a friend’s island that he got kicked off and Riley sort of gets roped into helping him since she is working for him.

I loved the storyline of this book. The comedy in Janet Evanovich’s writing really comes through again with this book. The author does a great job creating the characters of Emerson and Riley. Emerson has a quirky personality and he really sticks with it the entire book. Riley is more of a by the book girl and this makes a great combination with Emerson.

The author does a great job with keeping the story moving once the action begins. I feel like once we get on the road with the characters the story just keeps moving along at a very fast pace. The story follows through the National Parks in the US and they are very interesting to read about. I enjoyed getting to hear the descriptions from the author and also learning a little more about our National parks.

I don’t believe you would need to know what happened in the first book to follow the second book. Most of the hints the author gives about the relationship between Emerson and Riley are very prevalent in this book and the other characters that are introduced all get full introductions by the author.

I have two issues with the book. The beginning of the book was a little slow for me. I enjoy Janet Evanovich’s writing so I did stick with reading this book, but I could see if you start reading it you might be put off. The action really picks up about half way through the book so it took a bit to get there. The second issue was the science in the book seemed a little heavy for a Janet Evanovich book I was not really expecting that from her, but it didn’t make the book any less enjoyable.

I would suggest this as a nighttime read. I felt like it was the perfect mix of take your mind of the day and just enough to relax me to sleep.

This would have been okay if it were intended to be a comedy. But, a thriller, drama or suspense???? Hardly. For most of the novel the dialog was infantile. When the author went into a discussion of two-ply toilet paper and the relative size of the protagonist's penis I gave up. I finished the book only to see how really bad it was. The author did not disappoint me...it was really BAD.

“The game is afoot.” And with that promising introduction, Emerson Knight, heir to the huge Knight fortune and ramshackle mansion, invites Riley Moon, his Jill-of-all-trades assistant, to join him on a nonstop adventure. An old friend Wayan Bagus, a Buddhist monk, has arrived at the doorstep to report that his island, a functioning tropical island complete with volcano, has gone missing.

DANGEROUS MINDS is the second Knight and Moon caper, and Janet Evanovich has created a contemporary and feisty pair of sleuths. Riley enjoys telling about her Texas background, the only sister with four brothers, and she’s able to sharp shoot, swear and out-savvy the worst of the worst. Emerson has family connections, charm and, always a good thing, lots and lots of money. Vernon is Emerson’s cousin, who “would rather fish than think,” and his handsome, female-chasing self completes the group. Their assignment: the seemingly impossible task of finding an island, last seen 200 miles north of Samoa.

As these mismatched detective types begin researching maps and charts for proof that the island had in fact existed, they get a break. Wayan recognizes the uniforms of the national park guards as the same ones belonging to the men who had come to his island months ago and forcibly removed him. Riley gathers more and more data about all of America’s national parks. Based on her research of probabilities of accidents and fatalities in these huge areas, as well as Emerson’s connecting dots where there really were no dots, they see a pattern. The significant variable? Volcanoes.

The four quickly pack for a trip to Jackson Hole, Wyoming, and nearby Yellowstone Park. The first hours after their arrival try Emerson’s patience as he listens to stock jokes about Old Faithful, but there will be a payoff. The guide telling those hackneyed stories is not only informative and curious but also willing to help.

Now, truly, “the game is afoot.” The pace is fast and full of details about mantle plumes and the muddy fields of Hawaii, and a heart-stopping trip into long caverns and caves. And at last --- ooops, a wee spoiler alert --- Emerson and Riley discover that the crux of the mystery goes back 120 years to the Rough Riders and the creation of the national park system by Teddy Roosevelt.

The pop culture references alone make DANGEROUS MINDS lots of fun. Lady Gaga and her dress of meat at the MTV Video Music Awards gets a mention, as do “Friends” and a whole lot of misinformation about unagi.(Is it total awareness, as Ross insists, or a freshwater eel? It is not decided here.) A few days later, Emerson’s understanding of improvisational acting clicks as he insists that not “breaking character” will help him overpower the guards and draw the island rescuers nearer to Tin Man, the unbelievably nefarious leader of evil. And throughout the frenetic days and nights of travel and danger, Wayan offers pieces of Buddhist wisdom that arrive at unexpectedly appropriate times.

Janet Evanovich rightfully earns booklovers’ praise, and they trust her for believable yet unbelievable stories, funny yet violent scenes, sex but not too much. You get all the right feelings reading DANGEROUS MINDS.

This madcap adventure was just as much fun as the first! I love the eccentric and charming Emerson, appreciate Riley's intellect and good sense, and laughed out loud at Vernon's conspiracy theory antics and stories of his sexual prowess. While this series and it's characters share many characteristics with her other series (most notably the Fox and O'Hare series) I think Emerson makes it distinctive. He is brilliant with a childlike curiosity and up for anything. His money and influence pave the way for their adventures, with private jet transportation and personal shoppers to put together specialized gear at a moments notice. Riley is his unwilling accomplice, always trying (and usually failing) to bring reason to Emerson's wild theories and plans. I really like Riley and especially appreciate that she is a supremely competent, intelligent, and self-composed woman, completely unlike the mess that is Stephanie Plum. The duo are joined by Vernon, a lovable idiot with a phobia of Bigfoot, and Wayon Bagus, a Buddhist monk who develops a strange and hilarious relationship with Vernon. As if Emerson's frequent Buddhist and Taoist philosophical musings weren't enough, we now have Wayon (a former Master of his) joining in. The whole crew finds themselves in embroiled in a vast, complex, and bizarre conspiracy that comes close to killing them over and over again. Although the ending was a little rushed and far too pat, the story was highly enjoyable. The romantic buzz between Emerson and Riley ratchets up quite a bit, ending on an intriguing note. As usual the story covers a number of different locales and Evanovich spends time describing them in an almost guidebook-like way. Sometimes this feels a little too "Fodors guide" to me but does give the story verisimilitude.

I read CURIOUS MINDS, the first book in this new series and liked the main characters and the story. I looked forward to future books. DANGEROUS MINDS is the second and was a disappointment.
The book begins with Riley Moon trying to sort out a spreadsheet as she worked on untangling the financial mess for the Knight family. She had been hired by the latest heir, Emerson Knight, and, after two months, was ready to set fire to all the papers in frustration.
They were soon joined by Emerson’s cousin Vernon and by Wayan Bagus, a Buddhist monk from Samoa with whom Emerson had once studied.
Bagus had a major problem. The month before, some uniformed men came to his island and told him he had to leave. He resisted and they forcibly removed him. When he was able to return a month later, the island was gone.
Knight, Moon, Vernon, and Bagus set out to try to find out what could have happened that would make an island disappear. They gather information about other things or people that disappeared without a trace and find a common thread: volcanos, particularly mantle plumes. Their trip takes them from their homes in Washington DC to Yellowstone National Park to Hawaii.
Along the way, they discover some rather nasty government secrets and some very nasty people, part of the Rough Riders unit.
The story dragged at several points. The minor character seemed like caricatures. I found the plot to be too unbelievable although there are people who are convinced that the government would run a program like this one. There was also some mild but gratuitous sex scenes. I hope that if the series continues, it improves.

I don't know why the National Park Service and Teddy Roosevelt's Rough Riders have earned JE's wrath, but she sure has made evil villains of them in this book. Actually, I kinda like the Rough Riders as Spec Ops warriors, just not the evil, murdering, plotting to take over the world kind. Anyway, this is a wonderful, entertaining, interesting, educational and humorous read. I am a diehard JE fan and this book did not disappoint.

Emerson Knight is an brilliant, eccentric, hot, handsome billionaire. His mentor, Wayan Bagus - a Buddhist Monk, shows up with at Mysterioso Manor with a tale of forced removal by uniformed thugs and the disappearance of his small Pacific island near Samoa, Emerson has a mystery to solve and he really loves a mystery.

Riley Moon is the daughter of a small town Texas Sherriff and has multiple degrees from Harvard. She is the voice of reason and she can also drive like a race car driver and shoot with the best of them. Emerson caused he to lose her last job and had hired her and his amanuensis.

Riley and Emerson, along with cousin Vernon and Wayan Bagus set off to solve the mystery of the disappearing Pacific Island and end up in a whole lot of extremely hot matter. Starting in Washington D.C. where they rattle the wrong cage to Yellowstone Park, where they barely escape being boiled alive, to the Big Island of Hawaii where, well, lets just say that the earth is intact, because Riley and Emerson saved the day.

Overall: 5 Stars
Performance: 5 Stars
Story: 5 Stars

I loved listening to this story. Lorelei King does a masterful job of bringing the characters to life. Of course, she had great material to work with as Evanovich did a great job with all the characters.

Speaking of the characters, I loved Emerson and Riley. Their back and forth banter was funny as heck. I loved how Emerson is so oblivious while Riley is so down to earth. The really balance one another out. I liked the way the romance was starting. I also loved Vernon and was constantly laughing at his antics. I also found the Buddhist monk Wayan Bagus hilarious as well. The back and forth with Vernon and Wayan was fantastic. I especially loved the “lucky gun” and how Wayan handled that.

While the story was a bit unbelievable at times, that aspect didn’t diminish my enjoyment. I felt it mixed the right amount of suspense, believability and humor.

I sure hope there is a third book in the series.

This is the second entry in a mystery series by J. Evanovich without P. Sutton this time. As with last time, I felt the series lacks the sparkle of the original Evanovich books and Plum series. It is readable but not enough depth, excitement, or sparkle to make me care very much. There are some glimmers but nothing to make me look forward to the next entry. The ending wasn’t really much of anything. The mystery was resolved but there was no luster, afterglow, or hints of future adventures.

[Spoiler Alert]
The “fiction” was noticeable, meaning how much I had to suspend reality and believe in fiction/fantasy… the way they pieces always fell into place and they went to the exactly correct people & locations for the next step within tight timing.

And what’s to become of the monk? They’ve shown him some of life’s temptations, his island is gone, will he stay at the mansion and become part of the regular characters if the series continues?

That said, I borrow the majority of my books, had I paid $15 for this? It may have dropped 1 or 2 stars. If there is another in this series, it won’t be high on my borrowing list.

I fell in love with Stephanie Plum in the first chapter of One for the Money and never could quite get into the other attempts to start new series. When she came up with Knight and Moon, I found that the best spin-off to date. I didn't laugh out loud as often as I did in Two for the Dough, but I enjoyed the book.

I especially enjoyed all the detail and surmising that she took her entire staff to the National Parks on an expense write off on her income taxes. I learned a lot, too.

Meanwhile I have decided that what disappoints me to various degrees in the newer series is that the protagonists are all basically too sane and lack Stephanie's flake quotient. Yes, you can compensate with nutty side characters (the monk and cousin for example), but being able holding a novel together when the central character is always one molecule from breaking up is a real gift.

Ah, well- enjoyable, but not spectacular.

This book was awful. I enjoy the Stephanie Plum series, but there was no redeeming value in this. And who knew you could use measurements as filler in writing? Everything was measured. These measurements are in 3 pages I picked at random: 50 feet, 4 stories, 2 miles, half mile, 40 foot, 3 story, 2 feet, quarter of a mile, 30 feet. Pick any 3 pages at random and you can find the same amount of measurements. Who cares? A good writer would find much more interesting ways to describe placement, risk, and surroundings. It had a somewhat interesting story premise (beginning with the magma under Yellowstone Park) but it is unfortunate the idea was not given to someone who cares to take the time to write an interesting book. When I picked up the book to read the ending, I realized I had already read the ending, but it was so boring that I forgot it. You can do better, Janet Evanovich.

Evanovich goes solo on this second installment. Is that the problem? Everything that was right about Curious Minds is lacking here. Riley Moon, the female protagonist, no longer has any connection with her banking background, or with reality. Unlike when Stephanie Plum occasionally retires to her small apartment with her cherished hamster, when Riley goes back to her apartment, who cares? Except for a hatchet-wielding villain, the characters are cardboard. The monk showed possibilities in the first scene, but became a drudge after that. The entire narrative feels like a first rehearsal for a play. When is it going to gel? Where is the sparkling dialogue? Where’s the excitement? Stopping the action to explain the physics of the science-based plot is a bad misstep. I was delighted with Riley and Emerson in the first novel; I was bored with them here, and I am glad I did not recommend it as a light read for my book club.

A ridiculous story. The National Park Service was created to study -- and steal -- a mysterious substance that can destroy the entire planet? And employs insane hit men? As someone who actually worked for NPS, I find this beyond absurd. And did anyone count how many times Riley Moon says '"Crap on a cracker"? Nothing endearing about this heroine, for sure, or about anyone else in the book, except maybe the Buddhist monk. Unbelievable that Evanovich is a best-selling author. Crap between covers, indeed.

I love this book. The characters make me smile at times and then also have me shaking my head. Riley Moon is still working for her employer Emerson Knight. Knight has a friend Wayan Baggs who is a monk. Wayan has come to Knight for help as his island has disappeared. Riley and Knight go on a hunt to figure out what has happened and manage to uncover a government coverup.

Also helping find out is Knight cousin, Vernon who can make you laugh and shake your head. Knight and Moon have chemistry with each other but no one will actually take a step forward in taking the relationship another step.

I enjoy the book and characters. Tbis is the second in thus series and I look forward to more.

I have to say...I'm a geoscientist and there was a definite lack of research into this book. It pained me, I'm also sure if a physicist read it there would be pain as well. I enjoyed the characters (as I enjoy all Janet Evanovich characters) but the set up it hurt me so much. I was randomly yelling out NO NO NO (to the amusement of my family), I even came into work and told my colleagues (an actual volcanologist and his student, I am a geophysicist who is moving into volcano geophysics) and they were a bit flabbergasted. Some very quick, basic research could have helped with the simple things that were wrong. I'll admit I did laugh at quite a few parts. I was also disappointed by the ending, it was rather abrupt, I turned the page and thought 'that's it?'.

I've been a Janet fan since her Loveswept days. I owned a bookstore, so I had the pleasure of being able to read the first twelve or so Plum novels as soon as they came out. I enjoyed the Alex Barnaby books, and love the Wicked and Fox & O'Hare series. However, I will not likely continue reading this series, and the books will not be going on my Keeper shelf. These books seem like they are more research than substance, perhaps merely fulfilling contractual obligations.

I cannot relate to Riley Moon at all. For a Texas-bred girl with two advanced degrees from Harvard, she is annoyingly ditzy and sometimes downright moronic, more so in this novel than in Curious Minds. Emerson is annoying but still somewhat endearing. Vernon is just a ridiculous caricature in this book. Aunt Myra from the first book is much more relatable and interesting than any of these main characters.

The plots of the books are sensational and not very believable. Kudos on the research, though. The minute details lend much credibility. However, if the resolutions were not so skimpy, quick, and neat, the overall conspiracy theory plots might be more plausible.

The highlight of Dangerous Minds was the monk, Wayan Bagus. I enjoyed his discovery of western indulgences and appreciated his level-headed and well-placed nuggets of wisdom.

Buddhist monk Wayan Bagus has lost his island so of course he comes to his friend Emerson Knight for help. That starts a fun rump with Emerson, Riley Moon and Emerson's childhood friend Vernon. The plot is outrageous, the dialog snarky, and the danger more fun that serious. Of course there is the chance of destroying the Earth. This is a great group of main characters aided by some equally good secondary characters. A fun series that does not take anything seriously. I listened to the audio book and the reader had everything down pat making the story even more fun. I had a lot of laughs out loud moments.

I like the Knight and Moon series, but this one just bothered me for some reason. Love the humorous tone of writing by Evanovich, didn't like a particular character--Vernon. In my opinion, he had too much weight in the book, which didn't seem integral too the story. That probably sums up my frustration the most. So many parts weren't integral to the overall story.

The plot was entertaining and even well written, but seemed way to ridiculous for me. I've been reading a lot of serious, heavy books recently, so maybe the transition to this one didn't go so well. In the end, If you lessen Vernon's role, beef up more Emerson and Riley, tweak the plot, it would've been a lot better.

This didn't get better with the second book. I'm still thinking Riley is only okay. Her actions just don't live up to the way she's described. And I'm still trying to figure out what's supposed to be endearing about Emerson. There's a way to show that he's the smartest man in any room without beating the reader over the head with obscure, useless factoids that become irritating and obnoxious in really short order. Thank heavens for Vernon. He was the only saving grace in this book for me by being the only one that I found even remotely funny. It's a shame that most of that humor was juvenile and slapstick.

Man, I love Janet Evanovich books for their ease and speed! It's so easy for me to fly through these books and they're light enough that I can do other things while listening. I started this audio in the car and finished while I was making candles all in one day!

It's still a bit silly, as I've found all of her books to me, but these are a little bit less so than Stephanie Plum even though some of the characters are still the same.

This mystery was bizarre but good and they're always unique. I never really know what's going to happen which STILL surprises me... or maybe I just don't try since I'm usually doing other things!

I really enjoyed the first book in this series - it was funny, likeable characters, great read. I came into this book expecting more or the same - what a disappointment! It's almost as if this book was written by multiple people and just slapped it together without melding it together. Some parts of the book read like the old Janet Evanovich, other parts were dreadfully dull, and still a third part was just so-so.

This book is so not worth the time

Too predictable. Guy comes up with hair-brained, dangerous ideas, gal protests that she won't do over & until she does. Although she's supposed to be smart, she has no mind of her own & doesn't seem to add to the mission except to drive the car. He doesn't ask for her input because he doesn't seem to care. Oh, but he does want something physical from her.
The body count in both books is a little disconcerting too. Everywhere they turn, more people are dying. But no one seems to care, it's just more gratuitous violence.
Characters are weak & plot is incredibly long winded

I very rarely struggle to finish a book. I don't know if that means I've been making good choices or the books are just really good. I've read the Stephanie Plum series and enjoyed them, but this book was so very hard to finish. The plot was ridiculous, way too much time spent on the history of national parks and park rangers. Emerson and Riley are not an interesting pair. I think Vernon was in the story for comic relief, but I didn't find anything remotely funny in the entire book. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone and I know I won't be reading any more in the series.

I made it through book 1 and then trudged through this one because I want to like these books, but I just can't. They have none of the charm of the early Stephanie Plum books (and unfortunately those started to head south several books ago) and the story lines are just ludicrous. I think this is my last Evanovich in any of her books.

I do not understand the critics. When you read JE you are not looking for Hemmingway. I am happy for this new series because while I love Stephanie Plum, it is time to wrap that series up.

This is a different series from Janet Evanovich. I like how she finds a way to weave humor in her stories. I like that her characters are quirky and fun. It was very intriguing to read about how an entire island disappeared! Kept me wanting to read more. I love how Evanovich was able to find creative and unusual ways to get her characters around a sparse land with no hiding places but yet let them hide in plain sight. This book also lets us see how it probably really is inside of the governments secret affairs. I am a big fan of Janet Evanovich, so I was surprised and disappointed when I read Dangerous Minds. Maybe I missed something but I thought the dialogue was juvenile and the characters shallow. The plot was totally unbelievable. Stepahnie Plum plots may have been outrageous but one always felt that they could really happen! Truthfully, I found only one short laugh out loud part; this from the writer who could make me laugh until I cried! Hopefully she will improve with the next Knight and Moon story.

I'm enjoying this new series by Janet Evanovich. The storylines are a bit far-fetched, but the characters are likeable and there's plenty of action to keep me hooked.

I'm sure it will be a while until the next one is released, but I will eagerly be waiting. Honestly, I wish she would stop writing the Plum series and just concentrate on this and the Fox & O'Hare series.

I really wanted to like this series but just can't get into it; the first in the series was okay but couldn't finish Dangerous Minds. I wish Ms. Evanovich would finish the Lizzy and Diesel series before starting a new series vaguely reminiscent of the WIcked series but without the charm.

Not this author’s best work by any imagination. Conversations are juvenile and ridiculous with characters who are not insightful or intriguing. I truly love her other books, but this series is really awful. Would not read any others.

I have read all of the books with Stephanie Plum and Morelli and Ranger and the fox books and I really enjoy these series. It just seems like Goodnight Moon novels are missing a kick. Something there that is supposed to be there but it's not.

I love this Knight and Moon series. Quirky is an apt description. The monk was an interesting addition, and I'm not sure how much I like cousin Vernon, but overall the book had plenty of action and they lived through another mystery. I like that they seem to be getting closer personally.

Wasn't too excited by the first book in this new series, but this book was a big improvement. More fun, meatier story and a super bad guy!! Read the first to get the basic set up, but then relax and enjoy the second book. I look

Excellent book! It is a little slower, a little more intellectual, but very funny! This time Riley and Emerson have to save the world! They are assisted by Vernon and a Buddist monk! My mom bought me the book so I wouldn't borrow hers before she had a chance to read it! LOL!

This is another zany adventure by Knight and Moon. The mystery is totally over the top and ridiculous, but that is part of the fun. There are some good science nuggets hidden inside though.
Yes, the characters are familiar, but the snark is fun. Light and easy to read.

Evanovich continues the Knight and Moon series with all of the hilarity and mischievousness you expect. Continued character development of Emerson's cousin, Vernon, is laugh-out-loud funny. Does not disappoint. A must read.

My husband and I have listened to many of her audio books while traveling and always found them light and amusing. This book was a completely different style and contained a lot more technical information. I give it a C.

Beyond silly. Thank goodness I got it from the library. I'm a long time Evanovich fan, but this book started out silly and went down hill fast. Don't get me wrong, I appreciate a good, silly, book. This book was only silly.

I enjoyed this story. Janet Evanovich has a great ability to bring a different spin to a story. I like reading this series. You will get a couple of good chuckles from this story. I would recommend this story.

I see very little of Janet Evanovich's wonderful comedic flair and clever plotting skills here. What a terrible disappointment. Only positive is that it's more of a novella than a novel and less to read. Janet, ditch these boring characters and uninteresting stories. You can do so much better!

Have and love every other book she ever wrote, but found this one extremely disappointing. The first book in the series was fine, but this one had no chemistry between the characters and was filled with pages of “scientific data” that made textbooks look interesting

While the characters in her Stephanie Plum series are quirky & fun, these characters were fairly one dimensional & just plain weird. Living in Hawaii, I was intrigued by the partial setting on the Big Island, but even that was not enough to hold my interest. I finished the book, but will probably not read another one in this series.

I love my Evanovich books. I have every book she has written. I could not get into this series. I read about 20 pages and I couldn't read anymore. I put it down and then tried again. Read a few more pages and returned it. So disappointed.

I had to make myself skim to finish as this book was unbelievably bad. Story bounces between science lesson and inane conversation and antics. Evanovich writes the same book over and over again and has for years, but it's like this book is a caricature of her formula.

The book was so bogged down with pointless, ridiculous, unfunny dialogue that I did not get a quarter of the way tbhrough before giving up. Skipped to the end to try to find out the outcome, but again gave up. The author lost it on this one.

I was disappointed in this book. It was not bad entertainment. It simply never had the punch as the Stephanie Plum books of which I have read the entire series. Sorry Janet I am always anticipating your books can hardly wait to read them. This just did not do it for me.

Love Stephanie Plum books but this book had very little story and too too much technical jargon for me. Was boring but kept hoping it would get better. The last sentence on the last page was the best part of the book.
