the storyline was unique, imaginative, & uplifting. it had me saying over and over 'if only'. I wasn't satisfied with the ending but I understood why the author needed to give his character a chance to take advantage of his own life, on his own terms and to make the best of his future with or without the love of his life. I would definitely recommend this books to my friends & family.

A captivating novel that will hold your interest from beginning to end. A man is his forties dies and goes back to his freshmen year in college, whereupon he decides to do things differently, while making lots of money betting on stocks and sports events, about which he knows the results! He "replays" his life several times, meeting a woman who also is given this "gift." This makes for an intriguing relationship. Lots of insights and fun, too!Of course, the couple tries to change history, with sometimes unpredictable consequences.

I don't usually like Science Fiction, but strangely enough, I love time travel books. One of the books that I read in past months that made an impact is "Replay" by Ken Grimwood. This creative book has not received the attention it deserves. The main character goes back in time in his own life, from middle age to his life in college. In fact, he does this a number of times, each time "replaying" his life, each time making very different decisions with interesting outcomes. This is the best time travel book I've read.

I really enjoyed this one! The concept of replaying your life multiple times is fascinating and Grimwood did an excellent job bringing it to life. At it's heart this novel is really a love story that spans decades. One of the most satisfying reads I've had in awhile.

When I first saw the movie Groundhog Day with Bill Murray, I immediately thought of this book (which I first read when it was originally published).
Both Replay (Grimwood) and Groundhog Day are pleasant surprises, in that both explore the subject matter (what would YOU do when given the chance to correct yesterdays mistakes) in very imaginative ways.
Perhaps, someday, somebody (Spielberg?) will produce a movie from this book. Apart from being a very good story, it would not cost a great deal in special effects ;)

Fun, exciting, entertaining, a fantastic trip into a fantasy that anyone would enjoy. I first read this book years ago while on a trip to Big Sur and everyday on the beach I'd tell my friends the story. After a day or 2 they were begging to hear more. Lost my original copy, had to get another to read it again. Just as fun the second time around.

Replay was an interesting read. It starts out with Jeff Winston dying in 1988. Then, wham, he’s suddenly alive back in his dorm room in college in the 60’s. He’s unbelieving at first, thinking it’s some elaborate hoax, or that he possibly dreamed his future life. He finally comes to terms that he is replaying his life. He begins to bet on horse races and other such sure win scenarios where he clearly remembers the outcome from his previous life. He amasses a large fortune and becomes wealthy and happy with his life. Then, 1988 hits and wham, he’s dead again, and waking up again in the 60’s.

It’s an interesting premise that Grimwood plays on here. What would you do with your life if you could live it over and over again and again? Would you do everything the same? Would you do everything different? Would you try to become rich and famous? Would you alienate yourself from everyone because you can’t stand to continue to lose them again and again? Would you try to save the world from disasters, or end up causing some yourself?

If you like the possibility of knowing the future or traveling back into your past, this story will surely entertain you. I've gone on to read many more books since this book but I often think about the characters of this book. I read this entire book during a long vacation. I couldn't put it down.

Groundhog Day with the comedy replaced by thoughtful exploration of what it could mean to live parts of your life over and over and over. There are good and bad possibilities, and this author does an excellent job of examining the implications of one's choices. He also makes good use of the time period being relived. Could not put it down!

Ok - I have not read any other modern time travel novels so I can't compare as some other readers here have done.

However, for me, this has been one of those books I've just picked up at every opportunity to see what happens next.

While technically this is science fiction, it's not a "fantastic" type of science fiction.

I think the device that kept me picking it up was that the protagonist's actions were pretty believable and generally made sense. What enrichened this quite a bit was the distinct tone each "trip back" was allowed to take, and while the earlier Replays are longer than the later ones, the author tells the story in a way that doesn't rely on needing to hold your had the whole way through.

Obviously I don't want to give much away here, but there are some brilliant "a-hah!" moments as well as a few thematic let-downs, but generally, I'd recommend this book to any fan of interesting fiction.

I took this book to a week's beach vacation with my family and found myself reading it in the lulls of activities and bringing it to the beach; also, I found myself picking it up in the early morning while the house was still quite and just really enjoying it.

My wife read this as well, a few weeks after the trip at home, and I found her reading it when she got a chance, as well.

With his Novel "Replay" Ken Grimwood has produced a work that both strikes the mental chord as well as providing pure entertainment. I am a huge fan of alternate history and have loved the classic "What if the South had won the civil war?" or "What if Kenneddy hadn't been shot?" This book however shows us the choices we make as people. Even with perfect 20/20 hindsight, it is easy to make mistakes and lose your way. I would recommend this book to anyone who is looking for a meaning to life or just wants something enjoyable to read on a rainy day.

Replay is a thought-provoking book. As you read the story of Jeff Winston and Pamela Phillips, you'll think about what you might do if you could live your life over ... several times. Hedonism? Humanitarianism? Greed? Jeff and Pamela try rtf hem all, with varying, interesting results? If you're a sci-to fan, or just a thoughtful person, you'll love this book.

This is a totally intriguing and interesting book. The personas get to live their mid-lives over and over again. Imagine going back 25 years and living again, knowing what you know now. Money would not be a problem since you know what to bet on. You would not repeat your old mistakes. But, you would have a whole new set of mistakes. ON and on. The interesting kicker on this story is ... I wont spoil it for you but it is an interesting kicker.

A wonderful book that completely caught me off guard.

What would you change in your life if you were able to do it all over again? An age-old question that has the potential for heady conversations and talk of Philosophers Stones. Maybe the answer lies not in replaying our lives over and making different choices, but starting to make those choices now---in this life. Perhaps we should re-evaluate and change the portions of our lives we can control, today, Now; live with the ramifications of our prior choices the best we can and connect with each other at every opportunity.

I enjoyed every minute of this book. I recently read Stephen King's 11/22/63 (which was wonderful) and it was a hard act to follow for any book about time travel. Replay definitely held it's own. Grimwood handles the tough questions about how and why deftly while telling a really compelling story. Every time I thought he was going to phone in a plot twist with some kind of cliche, he surprised me with something different and unexpected. I couldn't put it down. Highly recommended!

This story is fun, interesting, philosophical, well-written with a talent that shines. It has rhythm in its fabric, it has... Oh, just buy it and enjoy. No matter what genre you like, you will be glad you have this in your hands. If you like time-oriented fantasy, then you will always remember this book. Thank you for writing it, Ken. Best to you.

This was one incredible book. It was published in the late 80's, originally, and I believe the author has since passed away, but the message is loud and clear, be careful what you wish for..... It is a classic, and a keeper. A cross between 17 Again and Ground Hogs Day. Awesome!

Loved this book because it gave you an interesting plot line to consider...what would youdo if you could relive your life over while still remembering all of the things that happened the first time around.

I have probably read this book five times over the last several years. It is my favorite time travel story that I've read! It is one of those stories that answers the question of, "what would I do if I could go back, knowing what I know now?"
Love it! I've recommended this story to many of my friends and family and it has never disappointed.

After a long time of settling for mediocre books and abandoning them halfway, this novel came out of nowhere to hit me on the head.

What a book. What a story. What great writing.

Don't dare miss this one. You'll never know what you are missing. And I'm going to do something I have never done before: read a book for the second time.

It's that good.

Replay was a great mind-bending novel for time travel fans. What would you do differently if you could live a part of your life over and over again? It was interesting to see what was important in the characters' lives each time they went through the experience. Money? Revenge? Peace? Love? Family? My only pet peeve is that the book was written in the 1980s (no fault of the author's) so some of it may seem a bit dated in terms of historical events, but it doesn't really affect the book that much; it's just good to be aware of this before you read.

I have recommended this book to all of my friends, and every one of them has thanked me for the recommendation. This book made me focus on my own life and what I would do differently. I find myself stopping short before making an important decision and asking, "would I want to have to make this decision twice." Buy this book, and set aside 3 hours to read it, trust me! if you don't, you will probably end up missing some appointments because you will not put it down.

I enjoyed this book very much. Great imagination, though it was bit predictable. It kept me interested all the way to the last page. Recently I have found few books to do so. I think all the imaginative and talented Science Fiction / Fantasy authors have moved on to the next plane. If you want a good read, pick up this 1980 something book. You will enjoy it.

The book was in really great condition when delivered. I have since ordered several more books from the seller. It is also an excellent read. It tells a very interesting story that I am still grappling with what it means to me. If you like time travel, or science fantasy book it is worth picking up.

Great book! Everyone's had at least a passing thought about what they'd do differently if they could do it over again. This certainly gives you some catharsis in that department.
The action of the book was riveting and makes for quite a page turner.
The only disappointment is that the author seems to try to touch on more metaphyisical aspects of life, but doesn't go deep enough with it to make it seem worthwhile

I would never have chosen this type of book...not my usual read but it was my book club's selection. Suprise! I liked it. It held my attention and there's a lot to think about in this book. I would recommend this for anyone who is interested in science fiction. (welll..maybe not hard core science fiction aficionados)

Really enjoy time travel and this was a unique twist on that premise. Groundhog day in longer segments. Little risqué and language rough but as one as one reviewer put it the author sets the hook and you will lose sleep.

One of my all time favourite novels. Saying too much will spoil it, but it's like a more exciting and mentally stimulating version of Groundhog Day which spans a lifetime rather than just a single day. A total page turner.

This book was fascinating in that we see how Jeff lives his life several times over, and learn of the alternative futures he had through a series of choices. We see that each fork in the road does not necessarily lead to a better life, "just different."
