This book is structured by body movement. This is first book you should read. It equates movement with meaning. Remember to watch for changes in behavior and clusters of movements. The second book you should read is by Joe Navarro.

I am more than satisfied with this purchase. As a loner throughout my life I‘ve always wondered what it is that makes me “awkward“ or “squirrely“ to other people, why I make a bad impression, etc. The problem was body language, and this book is a definitive guide on it.

The first few chapters offer explanations for social, closed, fearful, confident, and courting gestures. Barbara and Allen flesh out not only how people act when in these situations, but also how to detect when someone may be lying or holding back. There are tips on everything from how to survive giving speeches or presentations to how to up your chances of a second date (or taking your date home with you), and they make this goldmine of knowledge simple and sometimes funny!

But one pointl to remember is, none of this information will be useful to you if you are not willing to put forth the time and effort it takes to unlearn bad body language habits and practice more effective ones. It‘s scary at first, but two days into reading this book and adopting new habits I‘ve already been seen as more open and approachable by my colleagues!

This book is a good introduction into body language and simple to read. All the pictures included are very helpful in understanding what the authors are speaking of. Some sections of this book are just amazing. For example, the chapter on handshakes was very interesting, the authors discusses the types of handshakes and how different types of handshakes show what type of person someone is. In this book, the authors cover body language shown by the eyes, hands/thumb, legs, cultural differences in body language (which is good if you travel a lot), and much more. I enjoyed the book very much.

This books was a fun and informative read. I feel as though I have gone through some type of CIA training school. As I finish up my doctorate in psychology, this book has proved to be mostly accurate and insightful.

I enjoyed the book. It has good explanations of body language and fairly descriptive illustrative examples. I recommend it if you would like to develop your powers of observation, or if you want to improve your own body language. Helpful in developing your own presentation and first impressions to other's. Also fun by gaining insight to other person's relationship status and standings.

This book is great, but should not be considered absolute truth, It is like a guide. There were a few things that were never even gone over, like top palm hand displays, especially with women and nails, or within a fighting/opponent context, and within certain cultures, but the more you study the more you will learn. It covers a lot and gives many references and studies one can look into more thoroughly. The only thing I personally didn't like was, the journalist writing style, it is written for the "average" New York Times best seller book reader, and binding is just as horrible. It does it's job, and you will learn to "read" those around you and hopefully use that to improve your relationships with others. After all, isn't that all there really is in this life besides ourselves? The relationships we have with others? So why not try to make it pleasant for everyone.

Though this book had insightful tips, I did not appreciate the sensationalism that it brought to the table. Another book I read on the topic was concise with professional examples and illustrations. The examples and illustrations in this book had titles like "How to Keep Eye Contact in a Nudist Colony" (p.176), The Short Skirt Syndrome (p.224), and Is He a Bum,Boobs or Leg Man (p. 306).
I am a teacher of teens and a women's leader, and did not find that this was a book I could recommend due to the pictures and content it provided.
A better version for those in leadership would be What Every Body is Saying by Joe Navarro. (a former FBI agent).

I enjoyed this book more than many other body language/ non verbal communication books, mainly because it includes scientific studies to back assumptions. Good book, learned a lot from it. Alan Pease really is top in this field.

I'm not a businessperson who specialises in sales but I am interested in learning what the "secret" meanings of body movements are. My husband rarely speaks and I attempt to guess his intentions or moods by observation.

Got this for a friend who loves body language & has other books similiar.

She liked it, but said there were pages that were inappropriate for young ages, otherwise very good. Other than that, I think she liked it.

Some of it is repetitive. Could have been 200 pages or less. Excellent info and helpful graphics. Lots of info here. Don't get overwhelmed. Plan your implementation strategy and revisit your highlights.

This book serves as a good introduction to the subject of body language. While not a definitive guide I have several books on the subject and none of them, consisting of no more than 200 pages, are complete. Body language is a study that requires alot of personal experience and experimentation. If you are truly interested in th subject then you probably will end up like me with several books that you can continually reference. I don't know if there is ONE book out there that can provide all of the info a person would need to master the subject. that being said who cares, this one is good enough to add to your library.

This was both easy to read and very informative. Although I didn't agree with the evolution part. Overall, I really enjoyed this book and would recommend it to anyone interested in learning about Body Language.

This book is very insightful. Everyone should know this stuff and possess the ability to tell what's going on around you at all times. Just remember don't make a nuisance of yourself while practicing your new observance skills. You can make a new friend or chase off your friends using this stuff. Learn to turn it off when you don't need it! Read it over and over and over and you will not only sharpen your skills but also find something you may have missed the first time through. Have fun with it.

This book should be read with caution. The practical information here seems to be valid, although anecdotal. The book makes claims that they use "research" to support their "findings", but some of the research seems to be pure conjecture. The author most certainly cherry-picks studies with little credibility to support claims that are overly simplified or "cute". I also found many of Pease's remarks to be inherently sexist and outdated. Many of his claims out women talking more, and men being emotionally inept are simply not true given todays valid and peer-reviewed research. As a scientist I was mildly appalled by this book for one fact: It seems to provide scientific validity when there is none present. This is misleading, especially to the lay-person. I, for one, am not okay with the perpetuation of gender stereotypes for a humorous effect, especially when claims of "scientific proof" are being used incorrectly.

In very few words, after reading this book, you will feel you had your eyes closed your entire life. You will be able to understand how people feel even when they are not saying anything.

My favorite: When a man is excited by a woman, which part of his body can grow to almost 3 times its size?..... No it's not that. The correct answer is pupils. "Pupil size is affected by one's general state of arousal"

To find many more interesting facts read this awesome book.

I have ready many books regarding body language and this one was the best at reinforcing everything that I had read. After reading many books, I wanted to start making flash cards so that I could easily look up what each body part told, but after reading this book, I had no need to waste my time making note cards. This book does a great job at organizing the topics and I now use this book as my reference guide whenever I need to look something up.

If you are just getting into the psychology of body language, I would say this book is a must own as it is easy to navigate and is a great source to reference.

I read the original book titled "Body Language" years ago and I'm glad there's an updated version available. I haven't finished reading it yet but, so far, I'm pleased with and finding the updated version more enlightening than the first edition.

I've dipped into this volume rather than reading it from cover to cover. It is very entertaining. Turning this knowledge into responses or actions would take a lot of practise, but nice to have more ideas about how to communicate more effectively.
