A very funny and (sorry, Mom) accurate portrait of the life of the modern singleton. Bridget made me giggle, cringe, and grieve for her, often in the same day. Now if only I can get my *own* life to have such a happy ending...

This book says everything you want to say, think, and act like you don't think. Bridget is a hilarious character and so relatable. The struggle of an average single woman is overshadowed by her potential romances. I loved it! Naturally better than the movie.

Good for a laugh. I plowed through this book while breastfeeding my newborn. I personally wish it had a little less swearing and foul language and a bit more of a storyline, but other than that it was an entertaining relatable read.

Having read Cause Celeb, I was excited for Bridget Jones's Diary. However, it did not have the same combination of humor and depth as Fielding's first book did. I did enjoy this book and it made me laugh a couple of times, but anyone looking for a funny and touching novel should go for Cause Celeb instead.

Bridget is so dear. She is the optimistic wisher ~ who wants everything, and quickly please! She finally finds that all the self-help books in the world won't bring you lasting love. Only honesty and acceptance can do that. In the meantime, she has some very funny adventures!

It was like reading a novel-length version of the comic strip, Cathy. I can't believe this trashy little novel dares to compare itself with Pride and Prejudice. Do such shallow women like the protagonist really exist? I couldn't relate to her at all.

Beginning Hilarious...Middle Boring...End Pitiful
Wanted to read this book for a long time and after watching the movie, I figured it would be a good time to read it. The beginning was hilarious, the intimate details of Bridget's life and her wild imagination made it seem very funny at first. But after a while, I started to lose interest. She repeats the same patterns in her life, ends up writing drinken diary entries that make no sense, ends up with the unexpected guy but is still doing the same old thing just with a new fella. By the middle, I wanted to be done with the book, but felt I had to finish.

I was looking forward to reading this after seeing all the great reviews. Saw the movie first and loved it. I know better than to judge a book off a movie, especially since the book is the reason for the movie. My biggest dislike of this book is i felt like i was reading the diary of a over dramatic 10th grader. I was also appalled that a woman weighing in the 120s is fat. I am a single woman in her 30s and over weight some and i dont even whine and moan the way Bridget did throughout the entire book. I did not see a woman speaking but rather a whiney teen-ager. The movie actually showed adults where the book showed a bunch of teenagers. Also the mom in the book is a self-centered b**ch, very disgusted with that character.

I was a tad disappointed... Maybe because I watched the movie before actually reading the book. I wanted more of Mr. Darcy.
There were a few of my favorite scenes, but I honestly can't figure out how they made such a great movie out of this book. The daily diary summations were annoying. I prefer to be in the action instead of the author summarizing an event after the fact.
