I enjoyed this novel on two levels; first - Nichelle is realistic, feisty and loves her bargain designer shoes, and second, I live in Richmond and enjoyed guessing all of the locations around town. Definitely looking forward to future installments in this series.

Loved this debut novel with non-stop action and twist and turns that leave you guessing until the final pages. I loved the characters and will be eagerly awaiting the next book in the series and the continued adventures of shoe-loving, spunky, reporter Nichelle Clarke.

I am a real fan of Jan Evonovich so I was a little hesitant to read another female-based detective mystery. BOY! Was I very pleasantly surprised! 'Front Page Fatality' reads like a very cutting edge Evonovich with a bit of a bite in it. Nichelle Clark has the media world firmly pinched in her fist and she tells it like it is. I had a hard time putting it down!

The story is pretty well focused and thought out and what happens has a reason. Unlike a lot of "cozy mysteries", the mystery is the main story rather that something stuff happens around.

And there's never been such a likeable mafia guy.

I liked this book. A little slow in the beginning. However, I stayed up past midnight to finish it.
The characters were interesting and worked well together with the storyline. Looking forward to the second one.

Nichelle Clark is a Crime Reporter for a local small town newspaper outside of the big city goal for journalists with her talents. However, as the series progresses you find that Nichelle may be way off her mark as she follows leads and her gut that help her solve major big crime that none of the so called, "experts" are willing to do or able to see. Nichelle is comfortable being a single successful woman but loving the attention she is getting from two high profile men in her circle. One is mysterious and dangerous, but attentive, smart and caring. The safer bet is seems to come up a little short in the "tingle" department for Nichelle. I look forward to seeing what she does with her skills in the future. Clean suspense, with great characters and storyline. Keep it up Lyn Dee Walker, this is a great series you've begun.

Nichelle Clarke is great! A crime reporter for a local newspaper, she's on the job when an explosion of a police cruiser occurs and the investigation takes twists and turns that ends up at the very top of the department. I hope LynDee Walker is planning more in this series...she has a winner in "Nicey"

Really enjoyed this one. Loved the insider's view of journalism, and Nichelle Clarke has enough of an edge to make her really interesting. Could see this character in mainstream suspense. Looking forward to the next novel!

Loved this book, waiting for the next one. It's great mystery, really funny at times but most of all it held my interest til the end.
Would like to read more about the sexy Mafia boss and Nichelle.

The characters are interesting, the story is compelling and goes at a good pace. I liked that Nichelle's character was not unidimensional. The author gives a good look at how she is at work, with her friends and her family. I'm looking forward to the next book and hoping that the author doesn't fall into the tired love triangle approach. I think Nicey deserves more!

This was a fun ready and hard to put down once you start it. I love the main character Nichelle Clarke as she is funny, smart and too clever for the rest of her coworkers. I look forward to many more stories with her at the helm.

LynDee Walker has made it to my must buy list with the start of this smart, sarcastic, fast paced, do everything in heels mystery that kept me guessing until the very end. Can't wait to see what happens to Nichelle next and whatever she gets into, well I hope Joey is there to help her out ;)

Spunky, witty, and smart reporter Nichelle Clarke is chasing the story of a lifetime, but will it be her last?
Front Page Fatality was an edge-of-your-seat mystery that kept me guessing until the end. A rich and varied cast of characters compliments the heroine, who risks everything to solve the puzzle and get the scoop, all while wearing fabulous shoes. I enjoyed every minute of the story all the way to the jaw dropping conclusion!

I enjoyed this title. I've been getting a lot of kindle books and I find that many of them are sub-par. I was pleasantly surprised by this one. It was fun, well-written, and not too bogged down in details even though the plot was detailed and involved several characters. The main character had a likeable, intelligent personality, there were no holes in the plot ("well, wait, where did THAT character come from all of a sudden??"), and I found myself looking forward to more when I was finished. Well-crafted, interesting, and fun. I couldn't ask for more!!

Entertaining mystery, with interesting characters. However, I think you can tell a story without constant
use of the 'f' work, and variations of it, and using God's name as an innovative way to swear.
I know those two things don't bother everyone, but it does me. I tried skipping parts to avoid that and still
follow the story, but it didn't work. I won't read the rest of the series.

An easy and quick read, with an interesting plot. A key aspect, the involvement of an organized crime leader with a reporter, was a bit incredible but fun nonetheless. Too much time spent on women's attire, however.

Decent crime and corruption story. Had no shortage of suspects, and some interesting connections were dead ends.

Now, about the shoe fetish....I cannot believe a crime reporter would wear Blahniks while chasing a story; that’s the only thing that ruined the book!

"Front Page Fatality" is the first in this series and is a very good and, for the most part, enjoyable read. One grammatical error, however, occurs several times so it cannot be ascribed to carelessness on the part of the author and/or editor. Bad grammar is a total turnoff (unless, of course, it is used in the mouths of characters who would speak in that manner) A drug is something that is ingested; it is not a verb (as in "he drug the box into the room"). Sorry for going on about this but poor grammar just takes so much away from the author and the story.

This was a good read, and kept you guessing, but I thought not very realistic. I am not really sure mentioning the shoes so often helped develop the main character at all. She could have done her job very well and could have been better identified with had that not been the case. I don't think I will read more of these stories.

I started reading Front Page Fatality, and waded through alot. It's a clean edit with no mistakes (congratulations). Ms. Walker has a clever way with words and a love for comparisons that's unique and strong. If only she used them sparingly. I felt there was little suspense or tension. I enjoyed the soda scene, but I felt no chemistry between Robert and Nichelle. It's a well written book, but I found it tedious at the same time. I like my stories fast and choppy, snappy and spicy! I like action. I wanted power. Unfortunately for me, this Front Page, just fell flat.

The story line was okay, middle-of-the-ground for a cozy. But the frequent unnecessary references to excrement and coitus spoiled it for me. (the store will not permit me to use the street terms in a review, but they will be happy to sell you a book full of them.) No more "Headlines in Heels" for me.

Good mystery with interesting look into the world of a newspaper reporter, but has some flaws. The book started slow, but picked up speed and kept you guessing as to who the real culprits were. I thought the main character’s fetish for designer shoes with stiletto heels did not fit with the image of a hardworking female reporter who was working excruciating long hours and running in six different directions all day. The heroine in this story was pretty much on her own. I think the story could have benefited from her having a consistent confidant rather than a few people that just helped her out now and then. One thing that bothered me was that two of the main character’s police buddies go missing early in the story. Suggestions are made that they are important and may be part of a police crime cover-up or even victims of the cover-up being investigated by the main character. Then these two guys miraculously reappear back at the police station at the very end of the book with no explanation other than they have a long story to tell when our main character has time to listen. Huh? The reader is left hanging as to something that was built up as important, but apparently had nothing to do with solving the mystery in this case. Sounds like an annoying gimmick to introduce the next book in the series.

LynDee Walker's first book in A Headlines in High Heels Mystery series, Front Page Fatality) was an extremely invigorating and unique book. Not only is this book a cozy mystery/mystery, but to me it is combined with a bit of intrigue, humor, witty remarks (with a bit of off-color words, but used effectively to make a point) in a non-stop action filled, easy to read format. I loved the characters, Nichelle the main character who is a reporter is someone so interesting that you would really like to have her as your friend or at least be in her company from time to time. There are some small stories within a story which are meant to give you more directions to follow and you are never quite sure which person on which to hone in by the author writing as such. And as soon as you feel that you have figured that out, you get another vein of possibilities in which to go, seeming just as plausible to get you to the conclusion. I just couldn't put the book down, and actually, as I do with many of the books I read, I read them twice. When a book is really great, I don't want to miss anything, and once I read it the first time, I like to go through the pages again to see where I missed a hint as to the guilty party/killer or was it a red herring. With Ms. Walker's book, I know that I could not have figured this one out much before the end and I love that about a mystery.

For anyone who has been in the newspaper field/business and has been a writer or a reporter for a newspaper or magazine, I am sure that this book will revive your energy level remember the "old days" of your work. I had been in the newspaper writing field and this book really hit home to me, although I didn't cover crime as Nichelle does, I still had that feeling of excitement when I was reading her trials and tribulations and her intriguing adventures while trying to figure out who was a friend and who was a foe.

This story itself has been covered in other comments and reviews, so I didn't feel the need to go over that again, so I wanted to touch on the association with the characters and how the author gets you to grasp on to the plot without you even realizing how much you have associated yourself with the main characters and their involvement in this story. From there on in, you just won't want to put this book down, and in my case, twice!!!

For Nichelle, whose quirky nature is highlighted by her love for shoes, HIGH HEELED shoes, and her ability to solve a crime as a reporter in those heels is a feat (*pun intended) that not many women could pull off. I was almost envious of her energy, her ability to evoke information from a would be killer with her wise ways and her ability to figure out who to trust and who not, but most of all, I was jealous of anyone who can walk, talk, take notes, dial a phone, run, climb, and solve a crime in shoes with heels of 5 inches high. What a great book which had it all, a very fun and funny story, with a very plausible story, wonderful and believable characters, even interesting "bad guys" and with such definition that the story came alive, how could this series not be a big hit.

I am ready to start reading the second book in this series and truly looking forward to doing so.

I can see why Front Page Fatality is an Agatha Award nominee--terrific storytelling, intricately woven plot, and a cast of characters I can't wait to spend another book with!

Ms. Walker brings her Richmond Virginia setting to life with the perfect amount of detail that never slows the pace down.

Nichelle Clarke is someone I'd love to grab a drink with--she's smart, clever, focused, doesn't wait to be rescued, and has a heart. She's a heroine women can really root for. Her love of expensive shoes bought on Ebay is a cute character trait. Especially since she's a reporter stomping through rocks and dirt by the river.

Three different males crossed her path in the story, but none of them swayed her from her sleuthing ways. I am excited to see what develops in book 2 with them and her career.

The cast of characters is well rounded with the mentor/boss Bob, the nemesis Shelby, the helpful Eunice, and the gorgeous Parker. It truly feels like a family in the workplace.

It's clear Ms. Walker had an extraordinary career as a journalist because she is able to completely immerse the reader in the world of the Richmond Telegraph.

The pacing was lightning fast. I finished the last 150 pages in a day.

I wasn't sure who the murderer was until the absolute end--thanks for a great mystery and perfectly laid out clues. A delight to read!

Crime reporter Nichelle Clarke's days can flip from macabre to comical with a beep of her police scanner. Then an ordinary accident story turns extraordinary when evidence goes missing, a prosecutor vanishes, and a sexy Mafia boss shows up with the headline tip of a lifetime. As Nichelle gets closer to the truth, her story gets more dangerous. Armed with a notebook, a hunch, and her favorite stilettos, Nichelle races to splash these shady dealings across the front page before this deadline becomes her last.

Dollycas's Thoughts

Exciting from the first page to the last!!

The new Henery Press has some wonderful chicks in its coop!! A couple of weeks ago I read and reviewed Killer Image by Wendy Tyson and it was fantastic. This week Front Page Fatality kept me up late into the night until I reached the end.

This story is packed with drama and strong vibrant characters. Nichelle is a powerful, feisty woman. Her boss, Bob, is her father figure and the interplay between them is just heartwarming. The other supporting characters just leap off the pages and part of the mystery is which of them are the "good guys" and which are the "bad guys".

The dialogue is terrific, the pace is perfect, and the humor is well placed. Then there are those moments that rival a scary movie and you can't seem to read fast enough. And don't forget the shoes....heels to be exact... Carrie Bradford look out!!

This is a wonderful debut. Buried Leads is on deck. I can't wait! If you like your cozies with just a bit of an edge pick this one up today!!

Nichelle Clark is a crime reporter for the Richmond Telegraph. She feverishly works her beat, hoping that the Washington Post will see her worth and snap her up for the big time. She’s got a fondness for pre-owned designer shoes and first edition books, a gift for sniffing out complex crime stories, and a cranky copy editor who’s after her beat.

I won this e-book in a drawing with the expectation I give an honest review. I can honestly say I thoroughly enjoyed this. I found the author’s take on newsroom politics and the uncomfortably symbiotic relationship between the press and the police spot on. (I got my start in life as a general assignment reporter on a very small town newspaper where the cops used to tell me what I did on my dates and would call me on my day off to take dead body shots because they didn’t like the reporter who had the cops beat.)

This is a well written first effort with engaging characters, entertaining dialogue, a fast-paced, complicated plot, and a surprising ending. It was worth reading, and I’m going to go pick up the rest of the series soon.

Move over Lois Lane and welcome Nichelle Clarke, with goals and aims to be the next Washington Post reporter Nichelle Clarke had to take a small detour and begin working for a smalltown newspaper writing their Crime Beat section. It seems though that this may very well be her big move and the Headlines that makes her job. What starts out as a normal crime day with a drug dealer shot dead starts to develop into a bigger story when Nichelle remembers that another dealer a few weeks prior was killed . Is someone trying to rid the streets of Drug dealers ? Planning a weekend off , Nichelle is called out to an accident site where a Police boat collided with the boat of a Basketball Star . Was it an accident or is someone trying to cover something up ? Nichelle , on the job starts to dig a little and soon she discovers that she has dug too deep and has unearthed a massive conspiracy, drug ring, corrupted police etc - THE WORKS. As her inside sources start to disappear and others turn up dead it seems like Nichelle has stumbled onto something BIG. Though it would be wise for Nichelle to back off, it doesn't seem like she will as her reporter instincts kick in and she delves to get to the bottom of the mess ? However, there are those who don't want the secrets uncovered and will stop at nothing to make sure Nichelle doesn't blow the whistle. What will happen when Nichelle is captured ? Will she be the next Front Page Fatality or will she find a way to ensure that the bad guys are the ones listed in the obituaries.
A fun novel , that fans of Janet Evanovich, Lisa Lutz, Kendal Gray and Rose Strickland will enjoy and I look forward to reading the next installment of Nichelle Clark - Headlines in Heels.

This is the first book in the Nichelle Clarke Headlines in Heels Mystery Series. In this story we are introduced to Nichelle, or Nicey (nee-see) as her friends call her. Nichelle is the reporter who covers the crime and courthouse beats for the Richmond Telegraph. She has a good rapport with the Richmond police officer spokesman Aaron, wants earn a Pulizer like her mentor/boss Bob and has a love of designer shoes. (Thank goodness E-bay put the price of gently used Pradas, Monolos & Louboutins within her budget.)

Nichelle has just spent an entire week at the courthouse covering a capital murder trial case dubbed the Barbie and Ken case due to the double homicide of a good looking flaxen haired couple. She is planning a big Friday night out with her best friend Jenna, artist, bookstore buyer & mother of a newly weaned child and ready to get her drink on after a long dry spell. On her way into work that morning, she hears about a dead drug dealer, the second in just a few weeks. With all the drugs and cash being left at the crime scene, Nichelle wonders if it might be the work of a vigilante, but after speaking with Aaron agrees to hold that information back for an all access pass to be used at another date on the story of her choice.

That Friday night, everything seems to be going great. Jenna and Nichelle are enjoying margaritas, mexican food and dishing on Nichelle's lack of a love life when she checks her phone and sees a missed call from Aaron. There was a boating accident involving several baseball players and the Richmond PD boat. The strange thing is, the boat should not have been out, yet the officers who were on it were by the book types. Next, it is discovered that all the drugs and cash from the 2 drug dealers has gone missing and was assumed to be on the boat. When a prosecuting attorney, the last to sign to see the evidence turns up dead, Nichelle has her hands full figuring out just what is going on, who exactly is involved and how high up the ladder it goes. To add to confusion, Bob has a heart attack, Aaron suddenly takes a highly suspicious vacation, an informant in the police department goes missing and a member of the mob seems to want something from her.

Great book! I was quickly sucked into Nichelle's world and kept guessing right along with her. The action was fast paced, exciting and believable. By the time I got to the end I was so worried about what was going to happen. I knew intellectually that obviously everything would work out in the end for Nichelle, after all this is the first in a series. But in the thick of things, I forgot all that and was freaking out about how she was going to get out of danger and wondering who she could trust. Excellent Job Ms. Walker! I hope the second book is on its way soon. That little romantic cliffhanger you left us with needs to be answered.

As a newspaper reporter I found this book very entertaining. I do everything - police coverage to political news and feature pieces; my skills have me writing everything for our paper (and I am the only writer that will take on everything).

In some ways, this book made me very jealous. The author's descriptions of her newsroom and the events that took place, combined with the added competition from other media makes it sound like the kind of newsroom I would want to be working in. For me, it is very fascinating to read about other reporters, fiction or otherwise. It is a world that I fit in and I understand.

I really enjoyed this book! Thank you

FRONT PAGE FATALITY is so amazing; it brought tears to my eyes! The characters jump off the page and into your heart, making the story real and believable; they become your friends--then they become your family. LynDee Walker worked as a journalist and it shows; she knows all about the upsetting people in the real news world who are petty enough to want to take away her dreams; we have all experienced people like this, and Ms. Walker knows just how to put them on paper, causing her audience to relate to their mean personalities. Her reporter, Nichelle, has a hard-boiled attitude--and I've never known a pair of shoes to save the day! Excellent book--if I could give it 10 stars--I would!

FRONT PAGE FATALITY is a fun mystery, but with all the swearing I wouldn't classify it as a cozy. I did like the heroine though, and the mystery is intriguing. Overall, it was an entertaining book.

I loved this mystery staring Nichelle "Nicey" Clarke, shoe collector and ace reporter for a Richmond, VA, newspaper. As Nichelle follows leads, she starts to unravel a potentially huge story involving drugs, the mafia, and the local police department. I loved Nichelle's quick thinking and loved the newsroom setting.

LynDee Walker has written a stellar debut novel. Nichelle's quest for the big story puts her in a lot of danger, but Walker's written a realistic portrayal of an up and coming reporter trying to make a mark in the newspaper world, not an easy feat. The mystery itself is full of many twists and turns that appear naturally and don't feel contrived. The romance doesn't overpower the story, but adds flavor to the quick pacing.

I can't wait for her next adventure!

When I try out an author and love the book, I collect all of them. As Lydee did, I read up to 3 books a week. I tried Lydee's first book and I was hooked. I like a riveting read with no dirty language or steamy love scenes but with a good mystery, a hint of romance and a lot of humor. Lydee's books have all the above elements. I have read the first three and now have the last three to read. Will always buy new books as they come. Thanks, Lydee, for well-written, entertaining reads.

I enjoyed this mystery very much. The pace of the book is just right and the writing flows smoothly. The heroine Nichelle is very likable and I kept hoping that she will get her big story. The whole concept of the book, a crime reporter trying to investigate a crime on her own, was very appealing. I read a lot of mystery novels, and this was a welcome new angle to it. I hope the author will add more books to this series, and I am sure we will hear more about Nichelle, her handsome colleague, and the sexy mafia boss.

Front Page Fatality was a great read. Nichelle is a girl after my own heart - she loves books and shoes, and so do I. (Although I can't wear as many of the shoes that Nichelle does because I have stupid ankles.) But I digress. She's a crime reporter for the local Richmond newspaper, and is very good at it too.

One things I really enjoyed about this cozy was that Nichelle actually had reasons to be asking the sorts of questions she was asking - it really was her job. I sometimes get annoyed with cozy mysteries when the protagonists ask questions like `who do you suspect' then get upset when the police officer/investigator won't tell them. In Nichelle's case it certainly wasn't an unusual question for her to be asking. She also didn't to too many stupid things. Towards the end when she was at the factory, as an investigative reporter, it made more sense for her to be there than it would other people.

Another thing I enjoyed was that it read more like a standard mystery novel than a cozy, although there were definitely the standard cozy elements to it. The main storyline (the crime) was well structured and tied together quite well, without feeling disjointed or leaving you thinking, `Where did that come from?' Through Nichelle interviewing various people, I could see pieces of the puzzle fall into place. They're not always the right puzzle pieces, and sometimes more pieces are added in to make a more interesting picture. The little sub-plots added a nice depth to the novel, especially since it's the first in a series.

The storyline was well written and made for a witty, fun-filled read. The characters were very realistic, even for the short time that we met some of them, and added to the overall enjoyment of the book. When the bad guys revealed at the end it was somewhat of a surprise. The main bad guy was a surprise, his `minion' not quite so much. You didn't guess them immediately, although as I said the `minion' wasn't quite a surprise when he was revealed, but there were several choices to pick from. There wasn't a lot of gory descriptions of any of the victims, so if you are a bit squeamish you don't have to worry too much about that kind of thing.

I would definitely recommend this to anyone who enjoys cozy mysteries or even regular mysteries, especially ones with a female protagonist. I will be definitely awaiting the second book in the series.

This is a good start to an exciting new series featuring Nichelle Clarke who is a gutsy news reporter whose simple investigation turns into a risky exposé that saw our heroine tackle the police, a mobster and a competitive co-worker. I love the concept of this well-written mystery that pulled me in immediately and kept me guessing as this captivating drama came to its explosive conclusion. Led by a believable cast of characters that was diverse in their role where everyone was suspect, this is an enjoyable read and I can't wait for the next book in this appealing series.

LynDee Walker's debut novel, FRONT PAGE FATALITY, is fast-paced, fun and witty. Tightly written, with engaging and believable characters, the story moves through twists and turns that keep you guessing. Wow, what a read! Loved Nichelle as the protagonist! She has a great sense of humor and enough curiosity to kill 10 cats. She is very realistic, well, except for not carrying a pair of tennis shoes for the walks along the river, lol. Of course, then again, those expensive stilettos make for a very handy weapon. LynDee's book kept me on the edge of my seat. Loved the mystery, comedy, and the potential romance. BTW: Team Joey! :) Bravo LynDee. I am so excited to read her next book in the series Buried Leads!

You simply can't go wrong with this fantastic mystery that contains just the right amount of humor sprinkled throughout. This new writer, LynDee Walker, has an excellent ability to weave a story that completely draws you into the wonders of the mystery. Be prepared, this is not a mystery where you are able to figure it out halfway through. It will keep you guessing right up until the end. Plus, the ending makes the entire read worth every single page. We have NOT seen the last of Ms. Walker and I can't wait to read the next Nichelle mystery. It's been a long time since I've enjoyed a book in the same way I used to read the Agatha Christie books...

I liked this book by Walker. She has some good characters and they do some normal but also some unusual things. Won't tell you about the story as others have probably told too much anyway. Liked the plot because it kept me turning the pages to see how our reporter Nichelle, was going to get out of the next situation. For any mystery buff this is an engaging tale.

LynDee did an awesome job writing this book. She is an amazing writer who will keep you on your toes throughout the entire book. I loved the fact that Nichelle would were those high heals shoes while working on her stories in the weirdest places. For a full review of this book please visit Uplifting Families: [...]

Plenty of action in this mystery,as well as a well- thought out heroine. Fast paced, good plot. No cardboard figure, Nichelle is both tough and into fashion, smart and tenacious. Very happy to have found this and looking forward to reading more in the series.

FRONT PAGE FATALITY is, from start to finish, an original, exciting page turner. So nice to read a smart, with-it, female protagonist, who is fierce and still feminine. Paced well and humorous. You'll breeze through and want more.

I loved this book. It flows well enough to be a poolside read, but it was intelligent at the same time. That blend can be hard to come by. Front Page Fatality kept me guessing right up until the very end. The characters were both believable and likable, and the plot line was well thought out. Looking very forward to Nichelle's next adventure!

As a former reporter and the author of the new humorous mystery novel Head Case, I have great appreciation for smart, sassy and likeable heroines like Nichelle. Walker does a stellar job of moving this funny, fast-paced mystery at a rapid clip. I look forward to more!

The story moved along well, the main character was believable without being too, too perfect. The characters had depth and the story line held up throughout. A really enjoyable book, I will read more by the author.

I agree - the shoes were too silly. Too bad the "author" never bothered to go into a newsroom or follow a reporter before writing this drivel. I stopped cold and gave up when she reported seeing a photo of an african-american. I can only guess she mean, African-American. Geez - hire an editor already.
