Very informative reading. Well written. This book should be required reading in all high schools. It is a detailed account of the plight of immigrants from Central America to this country, the reasons for their migration and the long term effects on their families.

This book was well written and just like real life at times it was confusing.
The book identified differences in culture and at the same time reveals shocking similarities.
Overall I enjoyed the opportunity to visit other countries and share Enriques struggle as if we were brothers.

This account is stunning. Highly recommend. It's page turning drama, but as the chapters go by it becomes more and more arresting in the scope it implies. Imagine this story a million times repeated. No clear answers here, by the way, but necessary reading for anyone who cares about citizenship, their own or anyone else's.

It provides a glimpse at life as an immigrant. However, I did not care for Enrique as the main character... perhaps that was why he was chosen as the focus. Immigrants are human and not all of them end up being likable, this is a good reminder of that.

I am a professor of Immigration law and assign this book to my advanced class. We regularly volunteer at the NY immigration court assisting unaccompanied youth who are facing deportation. This text helps the students understands the dangers of the journey and the incredibly compelling motivations of the family members. I hope Ms. Nazario will continue to write and advocate in this field. We need her.

I really liked how I could imagine everything that Enrique went through as if I were there as well. There were moments that were very heart felt and I am very glad that I decided to read this book. The school I work for has a summer reading program that teachers choose a book for and students sign up for. I chose this book and I hope to open some eyes after discussing.

Everyone with an opinion on either side of the illegal imigration issue should read this book. It has the facts but also the personal stories that remind us how it is not just an "issue" we are talking about, but real living, breathing, people who are deeply hurt by their unimaginable circumstances.

The only thing better than the prose is the photography of Don Barletti. The courage of the young immigrants is matched by the heroic efforts of the author and photogrpaher in doucmenting the journey North.

The story line describes the difficulties for a young man from Honduras who wants to be reunited with his mother in the USA. Sonia Nazario illustrates the hazards of this journey in a manner that is compelling and educational. I recommend this book for all people who are interested in the social justice issue of immigration. This is a primer for all people who want to dialogue about the subject.

I enjoyed reading the journey of the young man who searched so hard to get to his mother. Her love and devotion kept him focused on an almost impossible trip. He fought hard to reach his goal. I admire him and Sonia Nazario for bringing this story to light.

With illegal immigration in the spotlight, this book offers amazing insight into the reasons so many are willing to undertake such a perilous trip. The hardships experienced along the way are examined with an unbiased eye.

Unfortunately, there is no solution offered for the problem of illegal immigration. However, it underscores the grave need for for action.

This is an incredible book by an amazing author. There is so much going on in this world on a daily basis that we have no clue about. Sonia Nazario brings detailed events to this story that can only be told by one who has made the journey herself. It brings new perspective into how I feel about immigrants living in the U.S. I am passing this on to my highschoolers to read so that they can better understand the world around us.

The book arrived in excellent shape. My Granddaughter had to read it for her summer reading from school. We couldn't fnd it anywhere here. She has finished it and liked it very much, and has a good looking book to add to her collection.

Wonderful book. Makes you think. Truly puts a human face on the ongoing debate about immigration reform in the United States. And the dangers imigrints go through to get to the United States where they sometimes find themselves badly treated and unable to return to their own countries.

This book reveals many things that were happening in Mexico that we were not aware of. Poverty was one thing, but there was much more than that, and this book reveals some of the things Mexican immigrants had to go through to come to the U.S.

I'm about halfway through this book, and despite a hectic work schedule I'm looking forward to finishing it up soon. The language and storytelling are straightforward; it's the accumulation of detail that builds into a powerful portrayal of a young man's journey to find his mother (and himself). Given the front page news about immigration recently, the books feels very relevant.

This was an incredible book told by a journalist who clearly pushed her own limits. I would recommend this for personal and professional reading. I had this as required reading for my university course on child migration.
