The writing in this book was not remarkable, but I liked it anyway. I found the broken dialect of Lakshmi annoying toread, but the story was so engaging that it carried me along. The cross cultural and ethical issues for the therapist, Maggie were thought provoking as well.

The story hour was a beautiful, revealing comparison of Indian and American marriages and a well thought out examination of the benefits of talk therapy for immigrants. Would recommend. Taking away a star for how long it takes to get I to the story.

Thought provoking story, complicated by familial love and interactions, feelings of loneliness, desires to please, inferiority and a desire to succeed.
This is a complicated story of life's challenges that have no boundaries'.

Umrigar's characters are instantly engaging and human. Told in an insightful, sometimes poetic way, Umrigar's characters, Maggie and Lakshmi, quickly become people to care about...to hope for. The women have emotions, feelings, and thoughts that are familiar and ring true. This is my first book by Thrity Umrigar, but I am a huge fan and look forward to reading all of her books.
