The Complete Text of the Ancient Canon of the Scriptures with Up-to-Date Introductions and Notes

The Jerusalem Bible is a wonderful translation. Unfortunately, this edition, along with all the other editions, is worthless if you have any difficulty reading. This paperback edition suggested larger print....sure, if your an eagle. The publisher should get in the 21st century and publish a double column format in LARGE print.....at least size 14 font....for people with reading difficulties. I sent the book back.

I was intrigued by the introduction by Ferrar Fenton to his bible translation (late 1800s) in the care he took to render the Psalms as poetically in English as he could. When I was looking for a modern translation I used the musicality of the Psalms as my comparison of translator sensibilities. And on that score The New Jerusalem Bible comes out well.

And you don't need to be a Christian or even religious to enjoy the narrative story cadence of biblical texts.

Another one worth looking at is The Apocryphal Old Testament by H. F. D. Sparks. The story of Joseph is outstanding.

I love this translation and use it almost exclusively due to the beauty of the language when you read it out loud or silently. Sometimes I compare the readings to ones in the New Revised Standard Version, Catholic Edition just to see how they say things differently and to enrich my understanding. However, as a Roman Catholic, I wish our Church would switch to this edition rather than the choppy, hard to read, New American Bible. The NJB has such excellent footnotes that it serves as an excellent study Bible as well.

This Bible enables me Too easily cross reference Each Scripture. I really like how it explains the scriptures. Doing so in a manner that makes one understand age old Biblical customs, practices, attitudes, and more.

The bible arrived on time and in very good condition,its a Christmas present for my husband who loves reading the bible everyday..He was so happy upon receiving it on Christmas day and im glad it came on time..perfect!

The purchase of the Jerusalem bible was important to me, so I wanted to make sure that I got a copy that I could use as a basis for my next more significant purchase of a bound edition. I was surprised and very impressed with the quality of the edition at the price.

ONE OF THE BEST ENGLISH TRANSLATIONS AROUND, AND IN DEFERENCE TO THE KJV. AN ADDED PLUS IS THE INCLUSION OF BOOKS THAT ARE NOT A PART OF THE KJV, E.G., ECCLESIASTICUS, SONG OF SOLOMON. THE PAGES ARE DELICATELY THIN. THEREFORE I'M NOT SURE IF IT WILL HOLD UP UNDER CONSTANT USAGE. HOWEVER, THE READING IS VERY EASY AND CLEAR, AND THE CONTENTS REMAIN TRUE TO EARLIER EDITIONS OF THE SAME NAME. EXCELLENT BIBLE STUDY TOOL.

Actually I was hoping this version was like the 1966 version as listed in my Scriptural Rosary booklet, but alas, it isn't. Still, this bible is great for me as I cross compare to other versions in my studies.

it came in perfect condition, i love it, didnt take long either so i am very happy about that, also it came just in tiem for me to start uni and do my theology subject so it is great for the studying that i need to use it with.

The description said very good. I would have rated it at excellent. The dust jacket was torn and the edging of the bible had a little bend on the corners, but the pages don't even look like anyone read them.

The New Jerusalem Bible Reader's Edition is the easiest translation to read for study and pleasure. I particularly enjoy the appendices, MAPS, and footnotes. I own the RSV, NIV, KJV, several study Bibles, even the Book of Mormon; this is my choice for the the daily reading of Scripture. I am a Protestant, but I really enjoyed the Book of Wisdom and Ecclesiasticus. I've worn out two copies since 1993.

Even though this is the "Standard edition" of the New Jerusalem Bible, it is not the version with introductions and extensive notes.
I have since found another "Standard edition" which does have the notes.
