Aileen's brother is missing in Freetown, West Africa. He is one of her three brothers in the Navy and she has travelled to distant ports to visit in the past, so off she goes. And meets Robert, the latest Frobisher sent to track down the missing men women and children.

She gets snatched by the slavers and rescued. They escape back to London to report and have the mission continue with Caleb, the youngest Frobisher who heads out with little delay.

Aileen and Robert are a great couple!

I struggled over giving this book 3 stars because it is an interesting story. But in the end I feel like it is too much like the Black Cobra books.
I also felt like the first part was a little slow moving so that the story line could be laid out.

The H/h DID NOT meet until page 124! But after they met the story moved along at a pretty good pace.
One of the things Ms Laurens is known for is her really, really LONG and detailed love scenes. Well, this book broke away from that pattern (yeah!). Because after reading about the first encounter I usually skip thru the other love scenes. In this book I feel she did and excellent job describing the scenes while keeping them at a moderate length.

One of the things she often does is write her female leads as extremely strong willed. Then she turns around and let them do something stupid that any idiot can see is going to get them into trouble.

All in all I think it was better than the first book, but nowhere close to her best. Would I read it again? Possibly - but not in the near future.

I have loved every Stephanie Laurens book I have ever read -- and I think I've read everything she's written. This book just adds to her legend as far as I'm concerned. The Adventurers Quartet series covers the four Frobisher brothers whose family is a shipping dynasty. Each of the four brothers has a part in a different stage of a secret mission for the government.

Robert Frobisher is a great hero. He's brave, intelligent, handsome and very diplomatic -- and is a buccaneer at heart :) One of the great things about him is that he's always open and honest and isn't hiding some huge secret. He knows who he is. He's also ready for love and a family and he admits that and doesn't have some huge angst about it.

Aileen Hopkins is a brave, strong, intelligent, skilled and determined woman. She, like Robert, is open and honest and isn't hiding some big secret. She knows who she is and what she wants and is willing to go after it. While she isn't looking for love, she is certainly open to it and is accepting of it.

The book is filled with adventure and danger. It has traitors, slave-traders, jungle chases, kidnappings, you name it and through it all Robert and Aileen work together, save each other and manage to complete their leg of the mission.

It is a great read! The only thing it is missing is the page after page of 'I'm not good enough for her/him' 'They wouldn't love me if they knew my terrible secret', etc. Not a bit of that in this book and it is so very refreshing!!!! I can't wait for Caleb's story next.

I normally love everything Stephanie Lauren's writes. And I absolutely loved the first book of this series. But this heroine, Aileen is so irritating that I truly had difficulty finishing the book. Why does a "strong" when it relates to females, translate to "shrew"?
This is a continuation of the story of the Adventurers Quartet. These brothers are trying to rescue men, women and children taken by West African slavers to mine diamonds. This book covers Phase 2 where Robert Frobisher is tasked with finding the slavers camp.
This heroine has major authority issues, which could be why she's a 26 year old spinster. At the same time she tries to tell others they have no authority over her, she tries to boss them around! Plot holes abound... Such as dumb questions, like " by what right do you have to order me about ...etc. " Oh, I don't know, ... Maybe by the KING???!!! So maybe you should just shut up! Everything she does is unauthorized and possibly puts lives at risk. I seriously couldn't figure out why Robert was attracted to her. She was so rude!
Later in the story, Aileen gets nicer, but she never acknowledges that her stubborn disregard for Roberts authority put all their lives in jeopardy ( including HERS!) and caused the completion of the mission to be delayed.
But as with all romances one must suspend disbelief at some point. With this book mine was stretched to the breaking point.
This book received a solid 4 stars for the plot and the Hero, but I could only give the heroine 2 stars ( and that was generous). Therefore my star rating of 3 stars.

This book was diverting and enjoyable. My main complaint with this book was the length and that the H&h did not meet until about 1/3 of the way through. This book is part of a quartet, and while the romance between Robert & Aileen wraps up nicely, the kidnapping plot does not. Please keep that in mind before reading this cliffhanger. I recommend this book to readers who can commit to a series, and who like mystery, romance, and history. WARNING: there is sex in this book, it is not erotica, but enough to be a steamy & hot adult romance. Please do not read if you are looking for something PG. Romance-3/5 Steaminess-3/5 Explicitness-3/5
Side Note: Hazel eyes are NOT the color of hazelnuts!!!! Why do so many authors describe hazel eyes as just plain brown. Hazel eyes can be a range of colors and shades but are never just 1 shade of brown. They can have flecks of brown, green, and blue.

The author has grimaced, glanced and nodded her way through writing another book that I found a boring, incomplete, utter waste of my time story filled with purple prose. At the end of in, the main character is still 'he nodded.' The book concludes with 'they made their way back to camp—or in other words, the book never reached a conclusion, and I don't buy another overpriced book by an author who can't even finish the first one to satisfaction.

This is the most dragged out story I have read. Events that take a second, Stephanie Lauren liked to drag out for all it is worth. There is a forty word , two paragraph description of eyelids dropping. That might not have been a problem if it had even been remotely interested by that time, but the book was so boring I was having problems stopping my eyelids from dropping.

You will notice a different tone in my voice in how I review various authors. When authors start increasing their prices towards the level of great writers whose books have been heavily edited so that the waffle has been removed and a good plot closure is ensured, but they haven't attempted to give the reader that quality, I will review as I feel about the book and am unforgiving about lack of a good edit.

As for writing like this: She realised her lips had curved... and another 25 words to tell the reader she smile. The previous sentence tells us why, but this author has to repeat this is different words. Never will I read another Stephanie Lauren's book. Simply the worst book I've read in many years.

A Buccaneer at Heart - the most is senseless and useless book Stephanie Laurens. If the first book of The Adventurers Quartet was just like all of her last book, boring and tedious, but it was the sense and logic present. The second book in this series just hit its historic bias, in the 19th century, young woman, the more noble could not travel alone, especially in Africa, a woman would be considered a whore and not accepted anywhere in polite society, nor in England, nor in the colonies . Young woman traveling alone easy prey for any man. So I have a main character has developed a very negative opinion, whether she was a fool, or someone else is worse.
Do not disclose the nature of the main characters, there are hints that Robert Frobisher intelligent and determined man, aand Miss Aileen Hopkins foolishly devoted to his family, that in Africa alone was to save the younger brother, just like she was going to do this is not clear. Not a word about the past of the protagonists. Who they are, how they lived 30 years, what did they do, with whom to be friends?
In one of the proposals, there is a hint unhappy love Aileen in the last, but then a word about it. With whom she lost her virginity, who was her first love, and whether at all, we can only guess.
I got the impression that such a hurry to finish the book that missed two or three chapters, for example, about the past heroes, their moral values, interests and interactions with relatives.
Absolutely not disclosed feelings of the characters to each other, the love between them even did not have thoughts during reading (and it's a love story!), But I even passion between Robert and Aileen could not see. I saw between them is just sex, which they do by mutual agreement after a stressful situation. The decision of an intelligent and pragmatic Robert Frobisher marry this idiot Miss Aileen Hopkins, how perplexed. This book is not just disappointing, it angered innuendo, no narrative logic and complete disregard for basic sense of self-preservation Aileen Hopkins.

I LOVED this book. The only major problem that I can see is that it will be 2 months until the next one comes out (and I already have that on pre-order) and then probably another 2 months before the final one comes out. I hate waiting for these. I want them all NOW!

The characters were great! I loved how they seemed to really be made for each other. Robert is a fantastic hero, and Aileen is a superb heroine. She is gutsy and intelligent and just a wonderful person. I don't seem to have any words to explain how super Robert it, but take my word for it...he is a great counter-part to Aileen.

The plot of the story really moves along and keeps you on the edge of your seat throughout the whole book. It starts right where the first book left off. There really weren't any slow parts to this book that I could see, no spots where you go, "Ok, when is something going to happen?" So if you like action with your romance and some good sexy scenes, then this is the book for you. However, make sure you read number 1 The Lady's Command first. Things will make much more sense for you then. I'm sure you could read this one first, but why would you want to miss out on any of Stephanie Laurens' stories, especially if it starts off a series like this?

On that note, my husband has noticed that Stephanie Laurens is on my gotta-have reading list, like a few other authors (Debbie Macomber, Jayne Ann Krentz/Amanda Quick/Jayne Castle, Karen Hawkins, Rick Riordan, David Weber, etc.) I have Stephanie Laurens on my Kindle as well as in paperback format. So, in other words, what are you waiting for? Get this book and be ready to enjoy another superb story.

This is an intriguing series feature seafaring brothers and the independent woman they love. It will be interesting to find out in the final installment who the bad guys really are. If you like a bit of mystery with your romance--and I definitely do!--start with Buccaneer and pre-order the other 3 books in the quartet.

Love to read Stephanie Lauren's books!! Looking forward to books 3 & 4 of this series. I like that she brings in characters from her other books. I like the mystery of who the bad guys are and how the main characters work together.
