The perfect 1st year group piano textbook. It should be bound differently, as others have suggested, but a quick trip to staples fixes that. I love the balance between new concepts, sightreading, repertoire.

I bought this book for my college piano class and while it did the trick I couldn't help but notice that it teaches some things out of order. If you have musical experience it isn't a big deal but if you're just starting out it can be confusing because it will teach you something one way and then explain it another way in the next unit.

One of the most useful Alfred books out there (and spiral too) with all kinds of pieces, every scale you can imagine.....after it was ordered she realized there was no CD, disappointing, but I said go ahead (and she did let me know ahead).

I bought this book used for my college music class because I needed it. It said it was in good condition but it felt like it was new. there were only a few marks in the book from whoever used it before. there was nothing significant and everything came with it that said it would.

The book was barely usable. The binding was falling apart so I had to fix it. However, when I return it to them, they rejected the return and charged me $68 for this book that was nearly torn to pieces.

Although this book is designed as a semester (college level) course for a group, I use it as a supplement to my regular lesson book. The exercises are very short and give me a good sense of accomplishment at being able to play them straight through with little practice. However, I wouldn't classify this as just a beginner's book. It may start out easy, but it progresses very rapidly. It helped me a lot with my timing and gave me lots of practice with difficult key signatures. Almost all of the exercises offer opportunities for transposing and improvising. I found this very helpful in understanding and reinforcing music theory. Some of the exercises are designed for groups (like the forty-finger exercise), but I either skip over them or play each part separately. There are also quite a few duets that I can play with my teacher. The CD is a great bonus! I was able to download the files to my computer and burn all 14 audio CDs!! I definitely recommend this book to any beginner or early intermediate student.

Provides great exercises, challenging solo repertoire for beginning pianists. I don't like how the spine is bound, however. My copy's spine has been flattened and misshapen by simply being put in my book bag with other textbooks.

I bought this book for a college piano class that I'm taking, and although I've struggled through other books to learn the piano before, I actually liked this one! I really like how it integrates classical, jazz, and blues theory in from the beginning, to teach a comprehensive view of piano skills and thought.
