Theory, Composition & Performance
Review:It's a great songbook for someone like me who cannot play piano very well. I knew almost all the songs, which is not very often true with other books. I also like the spiral binding so the book stays open on my keyboard. A good buy. Read more
Review:After trying to teach myself ukulele with another book, I saw this one recommended on Amazon and bought it. It was very helpful, especially the first accompanying videos: it is much easier to learn chords and strums with a video rather than a book. It's true you'll learn 21 songs, but the first few will only use a single chord. (Not a knock on the book - just a heads-up.) The first chapter of the book also gives good advice about practicing, and would apply to just about any new endeavor.
Review:Not an easy reading book. As a musician, I did not expect it to be a psychology book. I expected it to be how the brain and music, like mathematics and music, support each other. The writer rambles on and on about the same thing over and over in each anecdotal story he writes about - very monotonous. Stopped reading after part 1 (chapter 6). Very disappointed in the book. Review:There were some good points and helpful but overall Ms Cap's style of teaching did not mesh for me. I found the book a little confusing. Same with her videos. I know I am in the minority . I have played bass for over 20 years so please dont comment and bash me for this opinion But as an overall resource I will keep the book for the tips I can glean from it. Read more
Review:As a person that has a excellent education but never seems to remember what I want to, this is a great chord wheel. I can concentrate on experience sound and structure instead of trying to remember everything with the turn of a wheel and a good understanding of how to use it. Has directions and is great for what cords to play when you choose a key. Also will help you in the proper ear for writing songs. Simple easy to use with basic knowledge. Read more
Review:This was in perfect condition! Extremely satisfied :) I was a little scared that I wouldn't get the correct edition I need for my class but it was the correct one. Seller was friendly in letting me know that I had indeed ordered the correct edition even though it was clearly stated in the description but I did not see it due to not reading all the info. Overall, I couldn't be happier and I'm sure I will do extremely well in my class now that I have the book. Read more
Review:I ordered this item with Amazon Prime, and it was here in two days flat, no problem! The book was in good condition, brand new, though the cover bent faster than I thought it would. Oh well, it happens to books.
The book itself is well written and I would recommend it to any friend who has an interest in either neurology or music. Good work on the book! Read more
Review:Contains all of the lyrics. The annotations are brief and the style of organization is not a narrative one per se, although it is arranged in chronological order of when they were performed. There are over 500 pages but it's not a "read". Robert Hunter shines through nicely throughout as a writer and person, and of course some Jerry quotes are there and these both help to warm the book. I just thought that the annotations would be a lot more interesting with quotes from people who knew or played... Read more
Review:A very straightforward approach that is easy to understand.
Keep in mind that just because you can tell one note from another doesn't mean you can just play any tune.
You still have to practice, practice, practice!
I wish I could get a hard copy to have handy. Using the IPAD is a pain. Read more
Review:Needed the next upgrade for our daughter's music lessons, and I didn't feel like trapcing around from store to store to get her books. Where else to look? Why Amazon, of course! It arrived, lickety-split, and she was happily playing for her teacher in no time. Highly recommend this not only as a great lesson plan, but a great way to order! Read more
