Brief Edition- Standalone book, An Appreciation

This was in perfect condition! Extremely satisfied :) I was a little scared that I wouldn't get the correct edition I need for my class but it was the correct one. Seller was friendly in letting me know that I had indeed ordered the correct edition even though it was clearly stated in the description but I did not see it due to not reading all the info. Overall, I couldn't be happier and I'm sure I will do extremely well in my class now that I have the book.

I was very disappointed about the product. There was suppose to be 5 cds but only 4 being sent. The seller wrote a little note said that cd #4 is missing yet did not inform on the advertising. CD #1 was being record over a couple of times. There was several part of the cd missed with different kind of music. People like this would ruin the reputation of the site.

I have just completed my Music Appreciation class for which this was the text. I found the book very interesting and enlightening. It not only went into a lot of detail about the music but also the lives and stories behind the composers and artists themselves.

The book shipped very quickly and arrived in relatively good condition. Given that it normally sells for twice the price I bought it for, I'd say it was a really good deal. Kamien does a good job of covering the masterworks of music, given that you can only fit so many composers into one book. The pieces he selected were very appropriate to describe the aspects of music he was demonstrating as well, e.g. rondo form or theme and variations.

Kamien all but ignores every type of non western music and the text itself lacks imagination. Kamien is probably just cashing in on this outrageously expensive textbook every year and laughing to the bank. Also the multiple choice questions that are provided with the book are often misleading and poorly written. I appreciate what Kamien attempted to do with the integrated website but, in the end, the website isn't very user friendly and if you buy this book used or rent the e-book version you do not get access to the website. Overall not great and not terrible.

It was very high quality, it shipped on time, and the CD was organized to make it very easy to memorize the music examples for the class.
I personally enjoyed the selections, too. They're worth listening to, even if they weren't required. :)

I bought this book for my college level music appreciation class. We were required to read the whole book over the semester.

I learned a lot, so the book is defiantly pack with great knowlege. But it is somewhat a dry read. It is not the most exciting text book I've ever had, but there are not many exciting text books though.

But with this book I got an A in the class :)
