There was a decent premise that wasn't fleshed out well. Rowen doesn't have a set personality, she fluctuates between brave and skittish, machiavellian and simple, smart and air headed. The dialogue is juvenile, even when delivered by an adult character and there are issues with words missing or misused. The world building needs work as well, but after an editor spends some time with it, it could be a decent story.

The first page got me. Imagine prochecizing your own death, or that someone saves you just about the time you are about to be killed. You have to read to find out what happens to Rowen. Rowen has grown up her whole life thinking she is less than she is. She is not a full blood dragon so she can't fly. She is inferior or so she believes. As the story goes on we find that things she has been told, and things she believes to be true are not. It was just getting good when the story ended and I couldn't continue with the second book as I had to leave to go to a hockey playoff game. Bummer. I will definitely be reading the second book in between periods. Surprising twists and turns, and the story keeps you guessing.

Rowen's story of finding herself, her inner strength is full of twists and turns that you will never be able to predict. K.N.Lee masterfully leads you on this edge of your seat journey and proves once again why she is a one-click Author to me. Waiting on pins and needles for the next installment!

What can I say but wow! I started this book because it sounded like it would be interesting and I am so surprised that I could not put it down. It is full of adventure and Rowan is an amazing woman. She is someone who is not what or who she thinks she is. You learn bits and pieces of her and her heritage as the story progresses. I am surprised by the things that I have learned about her. I really want to read the next book in the series and see what happens next. This certainly a very good adventure story full of dragons, pirates, castle intrigue and mysteries.

Nothing I can say could prepare you for the actual experience of reading Half-Blood Dragon. You will be on the edge of your seat every second of it wondering what will happen next and each time you will be WRONG! Beautifully written, you will devour every page in one setting. I know I did!

I was surprised to see it only took a couple of hours to finish the first book. I was happy to see book two is out, as there were so many loose ends that need to be finished out in book two. It is a fun read, but be sure to get book two right away.

Half-Blood Dragon: Book One of the Dragon Born Trilogy (Kindle Edition) by K.N. Lee is a story I adored from page one! I loved the characters and the plot. The suspense was wonderful and non-stop. It kept me intrigued and eager to keep turning the pages. The only thing I didn't like is that it is a cliff hanger. I would have given it a 5 star for sure but this is a pet-peeve for me. I did buy the next book that is on pre-order which I rarely do, so that does say a lot about the book. It is a relatively short book for a novel so I would have rather waited and had a longer book, paid a bit more and had all the story at once. Anyway, great book even as is.

This is a refreshingly different take on dragon shifters which I truly enjoyed. it is a trilogy so expect a cliffhanger. Most of the bad reviews are from people who don't like cliffhangers. I had a hard time putting this down once I got into the story. Rowen is supposed to be a lady in waiting to the princess but right from the beginning, there are hints there is more to her story. She is clearly hiding something big from everyone.
As a girl of 19 thrust into a web of political intrigue without any preparation and experiencing prophecies of her own death, she expectedly alternates between a confident young woman and a terrified girl. She is struggling to find her own place in the world and away from home for the first time, her true self. You can see that internal debate going on as she makes her decisions. This is a common issue for heroines in YA and NA novels and is well done here.
The world created the author is magical and captivating as usual. So many mysteries await us in the land, I can't wait to read the rest.

I bought the first two books in this series in an effort to give them a fair shot based on the reviews...I won't be buying the third.
The writing is atrocious, with multiple spelling, grammar and sentence structure errors in addition to words used in the wrong context. It also does not flow well or even make sense in some places.
My biggest issue is with the guy that is made out as an extreme jerk in the first book, from treating women like objects, to striking the female lead in the face. In the second book he is revealed to be the love interest! Really? This is what is passing for a hero these days? Of course, every single person in this book is utterly selfish and looking out for number one, so I guess he is an appropriate lead.
I don't understand what is up with the ratings in these Kindle Unlimited books. Maybe 4+ stars for these books is equivelant to 1+ stars for other books? So many of them that have many 4 and 5 star reviews are really, really bad. Is it because they are given to readers free in exchange for positive reviews?
Whatever it is, I am cancelling my subscription since I can't trust the reviews and I am pretty tired of wasting my time on seriously poor writing.

Awful book. I am an avid fan of fantasy, and a big fan of books with strong female characters, which is what drew me to this book. It is badly written, terribly paced, predictable, inane, and not even worthy of the small sum of $2.99 I spent to read it on my kindle. Save your money. Reread Anne Mccaffrey.

I don't know if it's just my copy, but it skips pages, repeats paragraphs which makes it confusing and aggregating to read. This had good reviews, I'm really let down. I will be contacting the store on the poor construction of this book. Which starts right at the first page and continues one page after the next. Very disappointing!

Half dragon, half human, Rowen's future is shaky. This main character is no stranger to bad luck, and this writer does an excellent job taking me down Rowan's path. There are mysteries around every corner complete with dragon's, pirates, and even quite a hateful mermaid. Rowan uncovers one striking element of her unknown heritage, but so many other unanswered questions are left to discover. Superb read! So looking forward to Magic born! This voluntary review is based against a Kindle Unlimited copy.

Other people are complaining that this book is too short. For me that's more of a feature than a bug. I kept reading to see if this book was really as terrible as it seemed from the first few chapters. Spoiler alert: it was.
You start out thinking that this is a fairly standard, "protagonist is treated badly by the people around her because she is different and by her step parent, because, well, step parent." But a sort of important element of that trope is that the protagonist is actually a fairly decent human being (or human/dragon hybrid as the case may be). Rowen is nothing of the sort. When we read that her stepfather has described her as "ambitious and manipulative" the normal expectation would be that the stepfather is not judging her fairly. Not here. Here you think, "so, clearly he's met her." (As a side note, nothing wrong with being ambitious, but manipulative, and especially the ways she manipulates people is very problematic indeed.)
We're told that Rowen loves the crown prince, but, other than some possible erotic attraction (and even that's not really clear), she certainly doesn't treat him as someone she cares about.
I didn't notice anything particularly egregious in the grammar, word use, or formatting, so if you like your fantasy with a weirdly drawn, young, female narcissist as the protagonist, go for it.

Embarking on this breathless and fascinating journey is one that will readers will certainly enjoy as it brings pirates, dragons, sorcerers and even mermaids to brilliant and vivid life.
Rowen is planning to elevate her family’s status by marrying the crown prince, but prophecies haunt her dreams, intrigue and seduction fill her days and death awaits. Change is coming with a new prophecy that threatens the fate of the entire world and Rowen will have to accept her fate, awaken her gift and set the world on fire.
The characters are strong, captivating and easily enchant readers into their world full of thrilling suspense, excitement and daring plots that keep readers on the edge of their seat during this steady to fast paced plot. Most of the story is all about the intrigue which keeps ensures readers never have a dull moment as they try to determine what will happen next especially since it is filled with startling twists that cause astounding changes to Rowen’s life. There is also quite a bit of emotional issues that ensures that readers feel as if they understand the characters and which certainly adds depth to the story as Rowen faces prejudice, danger, and destiny. There’s not a whole lot of romance in this part of the story, although there is the seduction of the Crown Prince which is essential to Rowen’s stepfather’s plans.
The characters and the world are well developed and the author described the world and her characters vividly so it made is easy for me to imagine each and every scene as I became caught up in the story. The author did end the story at a decent point, but the story does have a cliffhanger as it is part of a saga, so I am looking forward to discovering what happens next in Rowen’s world.

First off, I love the cover!! I really enjoyed the premise for this book, and there are some unique, interesting characters. Also, I felt like the story had a couple surprises and twists in it that I wasn't expecting; a couple I guessed, but also a couple I didn't, so I liked that the story took a different turn than the norm. In the beginning, I wasn't quite feeling the story because I'm not huge on court politics, so I was glad when the story went in a different direction, and the beginnings of an epic quest began, but the ending of this book felt a bit abrupt; I do want to know more for sure though, so I'm looking forward to the next book, but this book did feel like we've barely even begun the story. I do think the last chapter was an excellent tease for events to come in the next books, and I look forward to seeing how Rowan will react to this news, and how the person's whose POV the chapter is in will explain themselves (sorry being vague on purpose). I love Lee's descriptions, and I really feel like this story has some really great places it can go; I'm really hoping an epic journey is in the works! In this book, Rowen is half-dragon and half-human, and because of this she is treated as inferior, but because her family has some social standing, she has been allowed to be a lady-in-waiting to the Princess of the royal family, but people still treat Rowan as inferior. Rowan tries to keep her strength and not let these people affect her, but one person can only deal with so much, and she is also dealing with having certain powers that are forbidden to have that she must keep a secret; powers she could be killed for, and on top of that she has seen a prophecy that doesn't bode well for her, so Rowan feels like she has the weight of the World on her shoulders, and her options are limited, so she is a bit trapped. I love that dragons are involved, and I enjoyed the pirate aspect; although I didn't really care for the Captain's character. This book has good bones, and I'm excited to read the next book!

Pirates and dragons and mermaids, oh my! How could I resist such a fantastic tale? This was my first read by K.N. Lee, and I like where she is going with the premise of this series.
Our heroine, Rowan, is a half-blood dragon. Not enough dragon blood to have scales or transform, but enough to have some strength and magical ability. Though I was confused on whether the magical ability came from her human side or her dragon side - that was a bit murky. As a half-blood, our heroine feels the sting of prejudice from everyone around her, and people easily believe the worst when she is accused of killing the crown prince.
This is a short story, about novella length (200 pgs, 3.5 hours) and while I really liked the premise and features of the fantastical world, I was left wanting when it came to detail. Our story moved along at a fast clip only hitting plot highlights without the rich detail that really brings a fantasy to life. I wanted more character development and more world building. I wanted to understand people's motivations and know some of their inner thoughts. I did like the major points of the story that we hit, I just wanted more.
The story is still being told, almost like this is a serial. So expect to feel like we stopped in the middle, and we will pick up in the next book to see what happens next with Rowan, the pirate, and the royal family.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this audiobook that I received from the publisher, Tantor Audio.

A decent start to a story but way too short. This is a novella, it’s listed as 200 pages, but I think that would mean you are using a larger font size than average. There was just enough world building to get by. Because the book is so short there really wasn’t enough time to build character relationships. Also there seemed to be some confusion in the writing on the type of person the heroine is. First she is portrayed as naive, then a schemer, then right back to naive. Again, because the story was so short the shifts in her personality couldn’t really be justified.
This book is part of a trilogy that is being re-released. To me this story would’ve been better served combining all the parts into one book, making it a decent length. It seems that this is being redone under a publisher with grammatical and spelling corrections, but it could’ve used an editorial brush up as well. That being said I am curious to see where the story goes and would most likely read the next installment. This is one of the series you read to distract yourself while waiting for a anticipated book.

The coarseness of the noose scratched at her tender skin as it was slipped over Rowen's head. The same experience has been plaguing her dreams this past week. The same nightmare three times in a week meant that the vision will soon be upon her. Her gift for prophetic dreams doesn't always seem like a gift, but if correctly interpreted it gave her the chance to forego the outcomes approaching. Calling on the power and magic in her soul to make out what she needs to see, as long as she looks closely enough, can mean shifting the time and place of her death to the next fork in the road.
Only then does she obtain her current 'get-out-of-gaol-free' card, the process subsequently starting all over again. As much as she'd prefer to awaken, making it to the next waypoint called for her to push past what she knew to be coming in order to zone in on the clues that can be changed. Rowen's faced her mortality time and again, since the insignificant choices of her childhood had shifted to something more sinister as she got older. Only this time it didn't happen as it should.
The audience of her dreams were usually hollow lifeless images doing whatever it is they were wont to do. Sentience and interaction wasn't suppose to happen. Being told by the man in question that he's coming for her couldn't get more ominous. If not for the tendency of her prophecies to have become about staving off her death, then the chilling recognition in the eyes of the sentient man could've been taken to various meanings. The salient question being savior or accuser. Perhaps this is why the vision of her upcoming hanging felt somehow different.
Awaking from prophecies was always harder, its a defining feature that permits her to distinguish vision from dream. But waking up on this occasion wasn't nearly as hard. The screech in her throat instantaneously replaces the snapping of the gallow's rope. In coming to the conclusion that they must know, she decides that restoring her mother's honour would have to wait. Irrespective of the ramifications of halting the purpose of why she'd been sent away from everything she had ever known, she couldn't achieve anything if she was dead. Awaking her sleeping best friend in the bed opposite hers, she decides to put into play the preparations that were designed to carry her to safety.
A kingdom of the sort where dragons frequent the skies to unfurl and stretch their wings, enraptured in their innate ability to fly. Where castles and guards, princesses and ladies-in-waiting walk the corridors. In the kingdom of Dragonia the former and latter are often one and the same. Dragon shifters capable of taking either form have chosen to give up the life of ruling from caves over the mountains they've claimed. In order to enjoy the pleasures of flight and to harness the lifestyles and pleasures of living as humans do, they partake in the labors of both beast and humankind.
So whilst Rowen does indeed have a gift, its not the one she wishes for most. No matter how hard she tries she isn't able to do what she covets most. She's down everything she can think of to release her wings or her dragon form. She has the wounds to show just how far she'd been willing to go to make it happen. Inevitably though, her half-blood nature hasn't bestowed what her mother's bloodline should've given her, had her father's bloodline been the same. Instead her father's bloodline must've given her the magic in her soul. But in Dragonia magic could get you killed or imprisoned, because the dragon shifters have made it illegal.
Captain Elian Westin of the Wandering Star isn't the sort to care about killing. He has taken too many lives to count, and passed out punishments long and short. Its the inconvenience of how dirty it can get you that causes his lips to sneer. But his crew knew before they ever became involved what sort of loyalty he commands. They're given an out before ever needing one. Once they come aboard his ship as pirates, they're bound by their oaths whether on land or water. In for a penny, in for a pound.
There's no true leaving on his ship, you kept quiet or you got dead. He makes no excuse and doesn't even feel the need to hide in dark allies the murder he's just committed. Be it in the close confines of a pirate ship at sail or in front of an inn's customers or barkeep, its all the same to Elian. There's also much more to the man, given soon after this latest murder he takes in an enormous breath, devouring the blackened soul of his latest victim. A scribe and memory recorder, Cook had done a poor job at both. He'd spoken to the wrong people and so he was being brought to measure. Now he'd obviously opened his trap one too many times, and so he'd earnt his captain's final displeasure.
Brooking no sensibilities, it is somewhat surprising that a man can do what he's just done, only to be put off by the dead man's loosening bowels. Once the soul has finally severed it's ties, the body releases the last of it's tension. The smell surely can't be any worse than places such as the bilge of his ship. For that matter it couldn't be any worse than the putrid smell of the docks. Riddled with the smell of rotting fish and sludge as they're heated by the rising and warming sun, its hard to imagine that one dead man's crap could be worse.
Admittedly he probably has people who are paid scrippance, little more than hammock and board plus the smallest percentage of loot. Its not the captain who has to deal with the bilge's smell but still, it does seem like it's something he'd expect and long ago having gotten use to it. A soul collector who makes money from pirated goods, he needs both for the payment of a prophet divining what his heart seeks most. With only half of a map completed he needs to know where to go and what to do, if he ever hopes to fill in the blanks leading to his little red dragon.
Two separate people intricately entwined by way of the fates. One seems to go where the other unknowingby needs to go. Could it be that it's who and not what they seek that matters the most. Chasing different things they may each require the other if their goals are to be met. If one of the two prophecies holds true, remembering that prophecies are only ever as accurate as they are when they're given, then Withrae is the place of fate. As the capital of Dragonia its where dragon royalty resides. Regarding the second it seems its possible that it's still in play. Rowen altered her plans to leave, plans intended to prevent it from happening. In a vague manner it could be that the second prophecy has provided clues suggesting Elian could be the man coming for Rowan, and that Rowen could be one of two bounties of his own prophecy.
Two very different people from very different backgrounds leading lives influenced by prophecy. One is her own prophet granted visions intended as a map to navigate her environments in the manner that is to keep her safe. She's never considered or had prophecies designed for an other person. The other has magical abilities but not the sort he seeks. He instead collects the resources necessary to pay for a prophet to divine about the thing his heart seeks. Both hold the knowledge of prophecies that inevitably relate to a map Two people each with magic living lifestyles that are inherently risky on the sheer basis of where they are and what they do there.
Each environment, as dangerous as the next. Its only that one would be easily recognised as such by those looking on. The other is assumed to be the lap of luxury, elegance and indulgence. Where any other than the experienced and educated in that life would recognise the danger that hides behind the masks of civility and nobility. One acts on the prophecies because of desire and greed, living a lifestyle free from the obligations and adherence to the moral and legal rules of citizenship. The other acts out of obligations to the people close to her, but those who still have greed and desires their own.
Only time will tell which is the one that faces the greatest dangers. If one ignores or fails to act in accordance with the prophecies then they'll miss the thing they want. The other's failures lead to the much more final errors that are those which bring death. Between the two are histories unknown and other's unrecognised. They each know more than either is telling. They are each intricately woven into the fabric of destiny and fate, in ways neither is aware of.
As with most tales of intrigue and mystery there's also those acting in silence, anonymity and collusion. The work from the shadows of lies in ways that neither of the obvious parties could've guessed at. For every immeasurable question and answer, more is unknown then what is known. Each answer often leads to as many, or more, questions arising than there were before the latest answer was obtained. Until the final pathway of everything happening and unknown rolls toward it's foregone conclusion, only the masterminds will have more answers than questions.
They might think they have all the information needed to manipulate and to predict, but they might fail to take into account the age old proverb of the truth shall set you free. In truly reaching absolute freedom its possible for puppets to cut their strings. It's then that they're able to act with impunity; which is the state from whence the puppets can do the absolutely last expected maneuver, because every choice that came before was only ever predictable because they didn't know more. Its probably that the biggest reason why the success of puppeteers is limited to only the times when they control the flow of knowledge.
Intrigue and mystery are the most obvious and evident aspects of the storyline in this first book of the Dragon Born Trilogy, Half-Blood Drsgon. In revealing the plot there's a steady pace that keeps each chapter and page moving toward the enlightenment of knowing what's going on. Characters have the trickiest qualities making it hard to determine friend from foe, heroes and heroines from villains. And the more complicated cases where they're both. The people who you love to hate and those you hate to love. The ones you love but probably shouldn't. Those you hate but for whom you don't know enough about.
With a cast and storyline such as these its east to get lost in your reading. Turning the best page only to realise it's the last. Wondering how long the torturous wait will be until you know how this will play out, and that will get what's coming to it. If those sneaky burgers are what they seem, and who's not what they seem. Its the well written storylines that keep you guessing without confusing you to what is still happening that often captivate the most. Set in the more traditional worlds of fantasy where the creatures are varied and the magic is more subtle, conflict often encompasses tooth and claw, sword and cannons. Once started I never stopped, never a truer characteristic in deciding how to rate it. This is only my second K.N. Lee book. Had that I'm not up with the times of her writing, but great in the way it means I can still binge.
Only then does she obtain her current 'get-out-of-gaol-free' card, the process subsequently starting all over again.

I like where this story is going, but it felt more like a prequel than a first installment. Were I to sum it up, it'd be about a young woman who gets into dire trouble and gets rescued. Literally. The whole thing was great and I liked the writing style and set tone, but everything felt like I was brushing on its surface, not really given much except a bit of each from all the great things I know are coming. The flow was pretty good, a little sharp in some areas, but I appreciated the suspenseful bits when it came to revealing Rowen and Elien's true intentions.
One of the things I loved most about this was how complex a lot of the characters were. Rowen wasn't just the goodie-good young lady, but a manipulative character with her own intentions for reasons I can't get into. It threw me off when I was reading, but then I got super excited and by the end, I was convinced that she was going to be something I'd highly enjoy. The other characters were just as complex, which was even better, because we now had a huge cast of people to decipher and pick apart. Overall, a great beginning to a series for fans of fantasy, dragons, and complexity.
*voluntarily and honestly reviewed the ARC I received from the author and bought a copy for myself*

Title: Half-Blood Dragon
Author: K.N. Lee
Genre: Young Adult, Fantasy
Format: Ebook
Pages: 201
Rating: 5
Heat: 3
Thoughts: Wow, this was so much fun to read! We know as much as Rowen, which isn't much. I love stories like this!! It's so unpredictable which keeps me glued to the pages, hoping for just one more hint as to what's going to happen. Even after reading the last word there are so many questions that I can't wait to get the answers to. There seem to be so many agendas and who knows all the players involved, or who's agenda is going to play out. Plus, dragons, how can you not want to read this?

I was given a review copy of this book. This started off slow and I felt like I was not connecting to the characters. Once it got going, it became much note interesting and action packed. There are still so many questions and the book did not have a true ending. It left too much unanswered for me to consider it as complete. Normally that is a deal breaker for me, however, this ended up being a really good read. The story is interesting and left me wanting to know more. It took some time but once I connected with the characters (around 25% in) and learned more about them, I did like the characters. I think the beginning felt rushed, like Lee wanted to get everything out there before developing the main character. It was a little jarring how quickly the first part of the story progressed. Once that settled down, the book quickly turned from a 2 star book into the 4 stars that I am giving it. I would recommended for fantasy fans, just be patient with it because it is worth it.

K. N. Lee's first book of the Dragon Born Trilogy is absolutely captivating. It keeps you on your toes with it's twists and turns and makes for one very hard book to put down. You'll definitely want to make sure your device is charged and you have nothing but time!
Rowan is a half blood dragon who struggles to find her place in the world. She is low in the eyes of the full blood dragons and feared and disliked in the eyes of the humans. As Rowan struggles to find her inner strength she is pushed around like a pawn in everyone's game, even those that she has no idea about. Throughout the book you get to peel back the layers of Rowan's personality as she is thrown through the twists and turns of taking hold of her own destiny. Even through the games and struggles one thing is clear about Rowan, she is destined for greatness.

I like K.N.Lee her stuff is great. But this, this was extra amazing! Rowan was a perfect contradiction making a main character both intriguing and worthy of your sympathy. She is calculating but also naive. Kind yet practical. Overflowing with emotion but wonderful at sealing it away. She is amazing. The other characters are strong as well. Lawson and Rickard are not what they seem. And the pirate captain, well I had a feeling about his involvement with Rowan but I still had that OMG moment. I sat down and read this all in one day and now I shall have to read the second (which I lucky already have). I have a feeling once I am done I will not be patiently waiting for book three. I am posting this review after reading all 3 segments of the story. Conclusion? The author had a great premise, but lacked the commitment to develop it into great epic it could have been. Much of the story sounds like we are just reading the authors notes on what they want to write. An example is this, which takes place right after the final fight.
"Together, they addressed the Dragons of Withrae. They smiled, and King Rickard gave a rousing speech of hope and peace. The crowd cheered and celebrated."
Most of the story is written at an extremely fast pace, with no breaks or rest. Simply
this happened then this then this and he said that and this and AAAAHHHH. SLOW DOWN, PLEASE!
With this style of writing, several things slipped through that did not make sense given what we were previously told. There were also huge, glaring questions which, if answered, could have added much more world and character development, and potentially made this a much more interesting read. Some of these include,
WHAT exactly is the barrier, and why does it need to come down for the dragons to attack, given that none of our characters seemed to have any problems going between human and dragon lands.
How does the magic system work? Are all the characters ancient, or have people already forgotten how their race began? A well developed magic system is a very engaging element of world development, but they seem to simply be able to do whatever fits the story.
Third. Who murdered Lawson? Rickard implied he didn't when he said he grieved in private, so who was it? And they never address what happens to Thorne, just say rickard is king now.
Now for the final problem, the characters. Rickard is apparently the god of intrigue, though we never see him actually doing much, just people saying he has done things. Rowen seemed honestly like a side character, wow Gavin is a super mage wonder what he is going to d... oh books over. For all the characters there was no real development, likely because they skipped over any place they could have had some. A prime example of this is Rowens training.
"Together, they stepped through the veil of time and for seconds were lost to the world. Once the ceremony was over" WHAT??! just like that? This could have been a great opportunity, but the writer didn't feel like actually creating a ritual.
All things said, this book had a very promising premise with foundations for an in depth world, which was wasted by an either very new or very lazy author. I will not be reading other books by K.N. Lee.
P.S. Please give this premise over to Brandon Sanderson or perhaps Patrick Rothfus to get something amazing.
P.P.S. in the preview for the next book, Ch. 2 is just ch. 1 repeated, with the story continuing again in ch. 3

Love this book! You will want to read this in one setting like I did. I liked it so much that I read late in to the night and continued it into the next day. I could not put it down. Rowen is a young girl with secrets, that unlike her kind is unable to shift to dragon form because she is only half dragon. Much like today, there is a fear of things unknown. Because she is unlike the rest of them and only half like them, she is 'unknown'. But she does have secrets that would definitely seal her fate not for the good if people knew it. You won't regret reading this book or this series as K. N. Lee has a way of weaving Magic into words to create a story that will captivate you and keep you going.

A prophecy. Rowen's destiny is to die. A will to escape from destiny - will it succeed or fail?
Framed and sentenced to death for the Prince's murder. A saviour from the shadows. A chance to accept her fate, her gift and to awaken.
A really interesting, intriguing read. I'm excited to read the next book - so many questions that I need answers to. What is going to happen next? That surprise at the end with the Prince - Oh. My. Heart!
Full of the Fates, prophecy, dragons, half-bloods, freedom, fairies, pirates, mermaids, magic, adventure, betrayal and mates.
Perfect for readers of epic fantasy adventure.

Half-blood dragon is a creative, new idea in a rather stale cookie cutter market. The characters are likeable and relatable and you find yourself swept up in the story within the first few paragraphs. Rowen is a girl with a horrible home life trying to do the best she can with powers she doesn't quite understand. She is swept up into a much larger world of intrigue and politics and finds herself accused of murdering the man she loves. On her journey she will discovery that life is not so black and white as she first believed....can good people do bad things for good reasons? Or is she just a pawn in a much bigger game?

This is my first read of this Author; 4.5 stars rounded to 5 because I honestly did not want to stop. The book definitely leaves you on a cliffhanger and with a lot of unanswered questions. The story draws you in immediately, but the novel is short so a lot of the details aren't fleshed out. Which is why I say 4.5 stars. The story is action packed, there's some romance, and of course intrigue. The amount of world building the author does in such a brief novel is remarkable. I have to know what happens next! Book number 2 is a certain purchase. I received a free ARC copy of this book, which in no way influenced my review. The opinions given are my own.

The idea for the series is interesting but it felt disjointed. It really didn't flow and I felt like rhe characters weren't developed enough for me to become attached to them. I read all 4 of the current books and still feel like I don't know the main characters. Throughout the books it feels like there is information missing that you need in order to understand the characters as well as to understand the world that the story takes place in. There were also a lot of grammar and word mistakes and sections that simply didn't make sense. I can understand when there is an occasional mistake that was missed in editing but this felt like it wasn't properly edited.

I was ready for a adventure into fantasy to take me away. This author provided that with the beginning of this trilogy. Loving dragons also is a plus from this author with Rowan taking me away. She takes my hand with quite the adventure starting with murder and mystery. And all the elements that await us in this one with the characters. The visions will wisp around us also getting us to think also. The name of the game I derived though is staying alive. By the time you reach the end of this one you scurry to find the next one.

Picked this book up as this was a new author for me and we have dragons. I was surprised that this story is a little different in that there is many secrets, political intrigue, dragons that take human form. Yet, I finished the book wanting more, with little developed. Cliffhanger. People are not whom they seem to be. This book is just an appetizer. So will the second book be the main course? Have it only 4 stars as it was short, and had a couple editing problems, which for me was a surprised that I even noticed them.

My second read from author K.N. Lee, and the first in a new series. I'd gotten this back in early February and never gotten around to reading it, so many books so little time. Then the second book came out and I figured I had to read the first before the second. A fast paced story with well developed characters in a well developed setting. Enough said, no spoilers from me, be sure to read the book.

This book is the first in a series. Is the heroine an indecisive innocent, or a manipulative Sorcerer? Is Prince Rickard a hero or a villain? Is the pirate a good guy, or a Captain Ahab on a tragic quest? Either the author doesn't know, or she's keeping us in suspense. This is not a cliffhanger, but it doesn't really have an ending. Overall, this story goes in so many directions that it is hard to care.

An enjoyable beginning to what I think will be an enjoyable series. Dragons, prophecy, mermaids, pirates, conspiracy, spies....this book has it all!
Rowen is the only known half-blood dragon. Since she is half human, she cannot transform into a dragon & she cannot fly. However, she does have other secrets that come out as the book progresses. The book has loads of intrigue, adventure, swashbuckling battles at sea, and a little romance.
I look forward to seeing what happens next in this series. Thanks, Ms. Lee, for a great read!

3.5 stars. Half-Blood Dragon is the first book in the Dragon Born series. This is a not a standalone and has a cliffhanger ending for the next book in the series. There is violence.
The book blurb adequately describes the storyline so I'm not going to repeat that all of that info here. There are clues in the storyline that keep you guessing what will be revealed next. It definitely kept me reading. Overall it is an interesting storyline and worth taking the time to read. I look forward to reading more of KN Lee's books.

Half-Blood Dragon is fast-paced and full of intrigue. Her mother's people are full-blooded dragons and never fail to remind Rowen that she's a half-blood. With a mysterious prophecy hanging over her head, Rowen does her best to survive the dragons' court. Betrayals, magic, and mysterious strangers bring everything to a head to leave Rowen running for her life in a cliff hanger of an ending that leaves your hands itching for the next book. A highly enjoyable read full of interesting characters. My voluntary review is based upon a review copy.

Decent story with semi original elements, but the cut off sentences, missing words and misspellings were distracting. Also, the plot went tied together very well, and while you were able to follow the story, it felt like you were missing something and then......a sudden ending (almost like it was cut off). Lastly, I personally hate it when the last 15-20% of the book ISN'T THE BOOK! It was all samples and ads for the authors other books. It left me feeling cheated.

Rowen is s lady in waiting for princess noemie. She is half dragon and half human. Although she can't shift into a dragon. She sees the future in her nightmares. She sees herself being hanged. Can she stop it? But when prince Lawson is killed and they say she killed him? What will she do? Can someone save her?
A fantastic read. I loved the story and the characters well there was some I didn't like. Am looking forward to read more from this author. 5*.

A Most Excellent Book to Start Off A Series! I had read one person's description of the book as having "good bones", and while I've never myself used that in a review before, I thought to myself, that's exactly how to describe it. This book has so much character and depth behind the main characters, that you just see flashes of this and start realizing it by the end of the book. So many things about this book kept me on the edge of my seat while reading it. It was like watching Pirates of the Caribbean (with all the swashbuckling) and Lord of the Rings (with the the Dragon spewing fire over the villagers) play through my head, only with the book's master plan gleaning through my mind as a movie instead. When a book reads so smoothly and so full of energy and enjoyment that it's like visualizing a movie playing the scenes in my head as I read along, I know the author has just made me one happy fan of their work. You cannot get anything better than something that transports you to magic as if you were a part of it, and this book truly does that for me. Read the synopsis, try the book, and see if you don't agree! :) (I myself almost never read a synopsis, because I don't want a spoiler alert. *I like going in blind with no preformed ideas. If I like a title and cover, I try out a book and read the first 100 pages and go from there. There's only a few times I've been so dissatisfied as to not read the book. Still, not many have transported me as this one has done either!!) Thanks K. N. Lee for a great read and God Bless as well! Keep up the great work! Btw.. I was so ready to read the next book in the series when I saw this 1st book had JUST come out, I groaned! Luckily, I also saw that Majic-Born Dragon is not far behind... Thx again Ms Lee for not making us wait too long! .. Lol I can't wait to delve into the next book and see where it takes me!

An amazing action filled, dragon fantasy! What I can say is that I found this book to be interesting and unique. I love a good 'Who Done it, cause I'm not being framed for this crap!" novel. A story of hope, coming of age and finding yourself, Half-Blood Dragon is a must read from K.N. Lee. The only issue I have is that I felt it was too shot, but seeing as it is the first in a series, it can be forgiven.
I received a free copy of 'Half-Blood Dragon' by the author in return for an honest and unbiased review, in which I have written of my own free will.

This is a real interesting read with lots of surprises and more to come. Rowan is half dragon and half human and is not accepted well by the dragon society or even her stepfather. Rowan has plans for herself but they get complicated by others who want to use her. There are many twists to the story that really keep you on your toes. The characters have lots of secrets and motives. You don't get the answers in this book and it will leave you eager to read the next one.

Ok I will admit to being half in love with this book because of its truly beautiful cover alone. Then I actually read it and ... just: wow. It grabbed me and held on forcing me to continue without breaking to the end (sadly past 3am - work was NOT fun the next day). Magic, adventure, intrigue, fantastic characters, great plot ... I could go on and on. I've read KN Lee before and know to expect quality writing. I found it, along with a new addiction. Now I need my next "fix" (aka, book 2)

Dragons, Mermaids, Pirates and much more!
Rowan is a half dragon half human mix and looked down on by full blooded dragons. She is sent to the castle to be a lady in waiting and falls for the Prince. He is poisoned and she is blamed and sentenced to death.
She is rescued at the last minute and escapes by ship but it is attacked.
The story is interesting and has lots of action. Most of the characters are likeable, only draw back is it was too short.

I received a copy from the author in exchange for an honest review.
This is the first book in the Dragon Born series. In this series we are following Rowen, a woman who is part human and part dragon. Being a half-blood, she is seen as lesser than full-blood dragons, people who can shift between their human and dragon form. She is a lady in waiting in Withrae and while at the castle, she falls in love with the prince. In her dreams, she always sees the same prophecy. When she is accused of a crime, she is rescued by Elian and his crew from the gallows. Elian is a pirate and a sorcerer that was drawn to Withrae.
This is a very good and promising beginning of the series. I loved the built up of the story, giving little pieces about the characters at a time. The descriptions of everything give you a good view of how everything looks like. I also enjoyed how the emotions and thinking of the characters is described, you learn more about them as the story evolves. This is a good blend of some romance, magic, and mystery. The book abruptly ends with many questions still unanswered and I am very eager to read more.

There was little to no character or world-building, so it was hard to feel interested in what was happening; and then as soon as I became engaged in this story it was over. As most people said, this is a very short and abrupt book. Plot line is good but you have to read all 3 to get a conclusion finally. The plot was confusing at first with the beginning chapters and there is an aburpt cliffhanger but overall this book was an enjoyable read for a YA book. The main character Rowen is a half blood dragon who wants to change her fate and she isn't scared to use her magic. Off to a great start. The writing style is pretty good. There is a lot of intrigue and hidden plots and I'm really not sure what's happening. But I'm definitely interested in seeing what happens next.

I was absolutely shocked by how enthralling this book is. I have been following K.N. Lee for a while and love the beautiful book covers, but for some reason left this book on my tbr pile. Once I finally decided to read this book, I could not put it down. There is so much mystery inside that you can't help but keep reading to find out what happens next. Rowen is a strong character, as is Elian. Reading from their views, much is revealed. I was not prepared for the surprise at the end, and I have to say this book ends in a major cliffhanger. I am immediately going to the prime member lending library to get the next book because I just can't wait to see where all this is going!

This book has a very original plot and a lot of twists and turns in it. It’s a lovely surprise! The Rowan character is herself full of plans and intrigue but is experiencing some growing pains all the while. In the meantime, she is navigating court as a lady in waiting, forced to protect herself and trust no one. Interwoven into Rowan’s story is Elian’s and Rickard’s - both men single-minded and not a little self-centered. Is one of them a good man? Are both of them? You’ll have to read the whole bit to find out, but the journey is so worth it!
I am looking forward to Book 2!

Half Blood Dragon was a very good novel... I enjoyed the constant battle of the emotions going back and forth between everybody... the storyline to this book was fantastic and spontaneous... The characters so far in this novel was spectacular and they also kept your attention... I cannot wait to read the next novel in the series... I'm going to recommend this book to my friends and also the remaining books...

Half-Blood Dragon is the first book in the Dragon-Born Trilogy. It's a page-turner of a story with lively characters, unique adventures, great world-building, lots of dragons, and plenty of twists to keep you surprised and on the edge of your seat. The romance is bold, but not erotic. It has a cliff-hanger ending, so be prepared to want more!

It was a good read, but just too many side issues and history lessons for me. If you are new to dragon society or the genre, then this might have been a great read, but after many years of dragon adventures, I found it a little slow to be great.

A girl with a plan to return her families honour, a prince she hopes to marry and an assassination that ruins everything. A rescue from the gallows by a stranger who turns out to be her father. A prophecy she knows nothing about. What's a girl to do but fight as best she can and hope it all turns out okay. Great first book, looking forward to the second.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It held my interest to the end. I found the characters interesting and the world well developed. I would have liked Rowen to have been a little more forceful and not so flexible with her interactions with some of the other characters. I am looking forward to the next book to see how things progress. I do love my dragons.

I really liked this book. The concept of half blood's and prejudice made this book a great read. It has a good story line, a halfling girl who is loved by her mother and hated by many because of her half human side. With some magic and intrigue! If you're into dragons and Pirates, this is definitely a book you want to read!

Half-Blood Dragon by K.N. Lee is the first book in her newest series about a young girl who is part human and part dragon. In this book we are introduced to Rowen who is a half-blood dragon. Her mother is a dragon shifter and Rowen’s father was human. Rowen lives in the castle as the lady in waiting to the Princess but she keeps having dreams that are prophesies warning her of a danger to come. She wants to stay a step ahead of it but she fears the disgrace that she will bring to her family should she try to return home. Her stepfather would be less than welcoming since he has always sent her away to learn different skills and finally to the palace. Rowen has a task to accomplish and she is well on her way to doing so but then things go awry and now her life is in danger and all she has worked so hard for is for nothing.
In this story Rowen, being only half dragon, is viewed as less than to those who are fully dragon-blood. There are ways to tell the full-blood to those who are only half. Those who are full dragon blood can shift their form from human to dragon should they choose and they also have dragon scales on their human bodies in small patches and their heart sparkles like jewels when the sun or lights hit them. They are beautiful and proud and look down on those who are not like them. Rowen, being only half-blood, will never be able to change her shape nor does she have the scales to mark her either. Rowen is special and she carries a secret that if found out will definitely seal her doom because if there is one thing that the dragons cannot stand is…magic.
This story doesn’t just focus on Rowen. It also focuses on a man named Elian. He is the captain of a ship but he is more than meets the eye just like some of his crew as well. Elian is a sorcerer and he is looking for the Red Dragon. A prophet tells him that he must go to Withrae, where the castle is, because there he will find something that is essential to his quest. He’s not told exactly what it is he to look for or find but he trusts the prophet so he goes.
This is a fast paced fantasy novel that engages you the minute you pick it up and keeps you glued to the pages as you go along. It’s hard to put down but so enjoyable. It’s sad to see and know how the dragons look down on those who are different from them and view them as lesser but you really have to applaud the heart and strength of those who are still different from them and manage to stand on their own.
This story has some mystery, some romance and quite a bit of danger. It all blends together to create an amazing story that just leaves you wanting more when it abruptly ends but the read is totally worth it. So, despite a few spelling errors that I came across I really enjoyed this book and I honestly cannot wait for the next book in this series. I really look forward to reading more by this author. 5 out of 5 stars. Well done.

Such a short book. This story is a cute read with many surprises. A big cliffhanger ending! I only gave it three stars because it raised more questions than it answered. Of course it was meant to make you want to read on to the next book. I just kinda felt cheated with this book because it was too short.

This story is about a girl who has the prophecy ability, yet is still affected by things that she does not foresee. Rowan is a likable character. There seems to be schemes inside of schemes developing. I enjoyed the book very much. I just wish it were longer. I did get an ARC for my honest opinion. I think you will enjoy this book. I did.

It is a good twisty start to the series. The whole time you aren't entirely sure how the prophesy will turn out and even when it ends, you have more questions and need to keep reading. I can't wait for the next one.

Half-blood dragon by K.N. Lee.
