I hardly ever write reviews...but this time I just had to. I am about 4 chapters into this book and have had to stop reading. The main character, Peyton, is the most unlikable character I think that Robyn Carr has ever written. She loves her family, but can't stand to be around them. She has to check out the town town before she can deem it good enough. She can't possibly find a suitable place to live. And the reason she left her previous boyfriend....because his kid broke her record? She seems like a real spoiled brat, and I'm disappointed that Ms. Carr has written her for the good Dr. Grant. My other annoyance...the boring rebelling of the previous 4 books, all disguised behind unbelievable dialogue between characters. People don't talk that way! If a stranger walked into my doctors office and asked the questions Peyton did, I would be hitting the panic button, not filling the stranger in on all my life's details. Then, of course, she meets all the other significant characters in the next chapter, who then also give her their life history and who seem to think nothing of it. ROLL MY EYES. I know this is contemporary romance and not great literature, but please Ms. Carr, don't insult your readers intelligence this way. I read the genre for fun and escapism, but honestly right now I'm finding the young reader chapter books I'm reading to my children more stimulating.

The Promise by Robyn Carr is book five in her Thunder Point series. It can be read as a stand alone or for a richer understanding of the nuances read within the series. She brings in a new character,Peyton Lacoumette, a physician's assistant to Thunder Point. Peyton is an intelligent, no-nonsense, strikingly gorgeous woman who grew up in a huge farm family. Her family and life on the farm are beautifully intertwined in this story.
Peyton comes off standoffish at first but her caring heart is quickly seen. She has baggage from a 3 year relationship that ended badly. As is so common in romance novels we have the stereotypical ‘sworn off the opposite sex/been heartbroken/not letting that happen again’ character. In The Promise Peyton plays that role.
MS Carr develops Peyton’s character in such a way her past is woven intricately in the story telling. I love how she reveals a little bit at a time until we are engrossed in the character. I really liked most of Peyton’s character but was a bit frustrated to see this brilliant, compassionate woman make wimpy choices as relates to her ex. Her insecurities seemed to overcome her good sense.
Dr Scott Grant is our other main character. He is the only doc in Thunder Point and in need of some help. He is a widower and single father with pain and insecurities of his own. He love his children and is protective of them, as well as his relationship with them.
Ms Carr is a wonderful story teller as she brings us a beautiful tale with a small town setting filled with realistic characters we soon feel we know. The romance, while mostly predictable, is still fun to read. She weaves in many secondary characters giving the story depth. We see the gamut of emotion - pain, loss, betrayal, love, compassion, trust and personal growth in this story.
This is a great cuddle up with a blanket and some hot chocolate book!

Another Thunder Point novel that I was looking forward to reading, and was actually more enthralled with this one then the previous one I had read. Therefore, I would give this particular one a 3.5 as opposed to a 3. I found that the plot had more surprises than the other novel I had read however, I did also find that it was a bit too predictable. One thing that I noticed about the Thunder Point novels was that the characters are very descriptive in what they say to one another, with nothing left to the imagination. It seems that the characters say every thing on their mind, which is a bit too much in my opinion. However, I did enjoy the way in which Peyton fell into a good stride with the people of Thunder Point, and the mannerisms in which Scott displayed towards his family and patients. The characters in this novel were the type that you would want to have as neighbours in your own town; friendly, approachable, and kind. Will try another Thunder Point novel in the future however, not too soon as I tend to know how most of them end.

I was gifted three different Thunder Point novels and thought I'd gotten them in the correct order, but now I see that this is book 5. I don't know what the others are since the numbers aren't anywhere on the books that I could find. It does explain why I felt like there was such a large cast of characters that I couldn't keep track of who was who and who was related to who and how.

I liked the story but wish it could have been told without the sex scenes. I was a bit surprised that Peyton would sleep with someone she wasn't serious about, especially coming off of her relationship with Ted.

Thunder Point seems like a great little town. One where the residents care about each other and try to help each other out. Of course, this also means that it's easy for everyone to know other's business--the not so nice part of small town living if you want privacy.

I think I related to Peyton's character because of a past experience with a guy I hoped would become a boyfriend. We were friends, but I later found out that he was hiding seeing someone else while using me to fund his business deals. Sort of keeping my hopes that he'd love me alive to use my resources to get what he wanted for himself. I felt that Ted's relationship with Peyton was sort of that way. I can also relate to how something like that changes a person, so I could see why Peyton was a bit leery at first when a new relationship comes up.

If I’m being honest with myself I went into The Promise by Robyn Carr more than a little confused. I read Virgin River by Robyn Carr a few years ago and remember really enjoying it. Then a few months back I read Four Friends and didn’t enjoy it near as much as I had anticipated. Needless to say, I wasn’t sure what to expect with The Promise.

I haven’t read a contemporary romance in too long. The Promise by Robyn Carr set me in the small town of Thunder Point. There are quite a few characters introduced in the beginning of the book. I just rolled with the flow and everyone soon fell into place in my mind. Peyton and Scott both had some issues that needed to be worked through and these issues even presented themselves during the middle of the story.

If you’re a long time reader of the blog, you know I’m a sucker for secondary characters. The Promise delivers in spades. I really enjoyed spending a few hours with them and Carr made me want to live there. The male lead, Scott Grant, does have two small children and I have to say they really added to the story. I finished this book late Saturday night. I woke up Sunday morning and was disappointed that I didn’t have more to read.

The Promise by Robyn Carr is the fifth book in the Thunder Point series. It can easily stand by itself. I haven’t read the remainder of the series and still loved the book. I’m even more excited to go back and read some of the older books in the series. If you’re looking for a small town contemporary romance, make sure you check out the Thunder Point series by Robyn Carr!

I have been waiting to read Scott’s story from the first time he was introduced. There’s something about the single father that has me eager to read his story and hope he gets the happy ending they deserve. Scott seems a bit more endearing than most since he does the jobs of a several people as Thunder Point’s lone doctor.

I really like how complex Peyton was. I knew that anyone that Scott would eventually date would need to be someone intelligent with substance. I love that she does not need Scott but having Scott in her life makes her life that much better. She comes from a big farming family so Scott had his work cut out for him.

I sound like a broken record in saying that I miss the Virgin River books but Thunder Point has really grown on me. Rowley is one of my favorite characters and I’m glad he was also in this book. I like how we learn about all the characters from previous books. Carr does a fantastic job at creating a community of characters that is not only likable but also ones we can all relate to.

I look forward to the next Thunder Point book. Robyn Carr is almost better than chocolate in that I love to sit back and read her novels because I know I will get a good story with a bit of angst, life squabbles and an awesome romance. Scott and Peyton’s story is my fave one yet.

Carr writes characters that are realistic, flawed and at their core good people. They are easy to root for, even when you have the urge to slap them in the back of the head. Scott is wonderful and finds himself falling for Peyton. However, Peyton has only made a three-month commitment to his practice. The question is when she leaves will she be taking his heart? I liked Peyton and felt for her. She does not rush things, has a strong moral compass and a huge heart. Ooo we get updates, from previous characters and see another interesting relationship develop. It made me giggle, and I loved their interaction. Who is it you ask? Well, you will just have to read the Promise and discover that for yourself. Babies, weddings and promotions as well as camping on the beach made me glad to visit.

The Promise gave us a little drama, and personal growth. I got a little frustrated by the character’s lack of communication towards the end, but lessons needed to be learned, and I enjoyed seeing the characters grow. There is a lesson in here too, and Carr reminds us that riches come in the form of money and possessions. The Promise was a wonderful edition to this series, and I closed the book with a smile.Copy received from publisher in exchange for unbiased review that originally published at caffeinated book reviewer

The Promise is one of those stories that grabs you from the first pages and keeps you up at night reading to the dramatic conclusion. Scott and Peyton are two of the most personable characters to inhabit the small coastal town of Thunder Point. The 5th installment in this popular series, Scott is a widowed single father running a small clinic in the area. He is loved and admired by all who meet him, and has become a fixture in Thunder Point. Peyton is new in town. Nursing a broken heart and looking for a place to rest and regroup, and contemplate her career options. When the two meet, it is attraction at first sight, but Peyton's refusal to get involved with any man causes Scott to think twice about asking the sexy PA out for a date. The secondary cast of characters never takes away from the story, but enhances it just as it should. The vivid description of the scenery and cast made me feel like I was audience to the small town's quirks and foibles. The passion is is both intense and romantic, with plenty of fun and laughter. Though part of a series, you can definitely read The Promise as a stand-alone novel.

I get these books for my mom because she loves to read. She reads everything she can get her hands when it comes to reading 5 authors. Robyn Carr is one of those authors. Highly qualified Physician Assistant Peyton Lucoumette has been replaced as PA, lover, and full-time baby sitter by her narcissistic boss, renowned Portland cardiologist Dr. Ted Ramsdale. He has a new lover; a young RN who he thinks can do the PA job as well as Peyton. Now she is taking some time off while she contemplates where and with whom she wants to work next. While staying in Coos Bay, Oregon, she responds to an ad in a local paper for a PA at a clinic in nearby Thunder Point, Oregon. She offers to work there for the summer while she looks for her next full-time job.
Dr. Scot Grant, a widower, finds her attractive – and highly qualified; he agrees to her short-term agreement.
Everyone in Thunder Point knows everyone else’s business. The whole town pictures Peyton and Dr. Grant as an attractive couple, but Peyton’s statement ”I’m not interested in men” gives him a jolt and suppresses his attraction.
In any romance novel, the two main characters are bound to develop an intimate, loving relationship. Here Ms. Carr offers us some unusual challenges to reaching that conclusion. I enjoyed watching Peyton and Scot stumble through hesitation and doubt to get there.

This series has turned out to be very uneven for me (even though most of the books have earned four stars) which bugs me since I loved Carr's Virgin River series. There are always things I love about her books which keep me coming back - the descriptions of the town, the characters she fills her towns with and the way she keeps up with each couple throughout the series. I usually love her heroines but her heroes drive me crazy - this book is the reverse but the romance still falls flat as usual.

Some of Carr's other heroines have had stories with a lot of potential for conflict but Peyton's fell flat for me. I couldn't relate to a woman who consistently endangered an important relationship by dealing with her ex like she was. Even if Scott felt overly needy sometimes I understood where he was coming from when he felt confused about their relationship. For the first time in one of the Thunder Point books, I liked the hero more and thought he was stronger.

Peyton's family is delightful and even though they're borderline-plot moppets, so are Scott's little kids. It's not a spoiler (since her brother is the hero of an upcoming book) to mention that they feature prominently again and they're just as fantastic later on.

Every time I read another novel from the Thunder Point series, it feels like I’ve come home. It might sound like an exaggeration, but really, it’s the plain and simple truth. From the moment I first met the people, and got wind of this place in The Wanderer, I instantly felt like these were real people living in a real place – and I’ve enjoyed each of my (book) visits since!

Even though I’ve missed out on reading two (The Newcomer and The Chance) because I keep messing up the release schedule, it hasn’t taken away from my easy enjoyment of the ones I have read! The Promise easily drew me back into this series. I was transported away from my New York City apartment to beautiful little Thunder Point in an instant, and greeted by characters dear to my heart. It was a real treat to be so fully immersed here again, and even better to see how everyone was faring (Babies! Weddings! New opportunities!).

Scott Grant, the doctor in Thunder Point, is a familiar face, as he’s been in a couple of the previous books. Though he could be earning much more at a practice in a different place, he’s dedicated his life to serving the folk of Thunder Point so that his kids grow up in this wonderful, supportive community. It’s so easy to admire (and fall for!) a man so dedicated to doing the best he can by his loved ones, by his community and even for himself. I admired his inner strength, slight awkwardness and just overall goodness. He’s one of the good ones, a catch, and that definitely is clear in The Promise!

The new girl in town is Peyton Lacoumette. (What a name! It totally rolls off the tongue.) Anyway, Peyton finds herself in Thunder Point after a bad relationship and, with her previous experience, finds a job at Scott’s practice. Obviously, this is the perfect set-up for these two to meet, and have sparks fly, but more on that shortly! Peyton is understandably reticent after her bad experience, reining in her emotions in order to protect herself. It was easy to find her relatable in her vulnerability, and earnest desire for peace and happiness. But I also liked her brand of sassiness, and the undeniable strength she showed time and again.

From the moment Scott & Peyton met, there was no doubt they would make a great pair! They have personalities that simply complement one another, and banter that made me smile. Plus, you could totally sense the attraction in the things they said and did (or didn’t say or do, for that matter)! Only problem? Peyton’s made it clear she’s (1) wary of romance and (2) only in town temporarily. But then again, are these things any match for love? It’s one of the quieter Thunder Point books I’ve read so far, but The Promise still sucked me in completely.

Basically, what I’m trying to say is that The Promise is another great addition to the Thunder Point series. I did have a bit of an issue with how it ends (because it felt too abrupt!). But getting to revisit this place and the characters, and fall in love with everyone and everything, all over again was quite lovely. I may not read a lot of contemporary romances, but the Thunder Point series is one I love returning to time and again. I’d definitely suggest giving it a try!

I love coming back to Thunder Point. Love the characters in this books and the other 5 books I have read. I love the one quote from the book:
"This was the kind of place that honored good people, even if they were just passing through." (Kindle pg 184) The town takes in newcomers and make them as one of their own.

We have seen Scott in earlier books since he came to town to be the town's doctor. His practice was getting a little bigger and he needed to hire a Physician's Assistant. Peyton comes into town and stops to see if they are hiring. So, she applies for the position. She needs time to think about her life. Peyton is getting over a bad break up to Ted, who was her boss. She lived with him and helped care for his 2 kids, who did not want anything to do with her. It was a messy at work and home. Ted replaced her with a younger version at home and work. What a dog!

Can Peyton trust Scott with her heart? To love him and not think that he's anything like Ted. Scott is a widower and has 2 kids. She was used by Ted. Will Scott be like that?

I love going back to Thunder Point and can not wait to get back.

☆☆☆☆☆
I give this book 5 out of 5 stars.
Would I recommend this book? Yes! Author? Yes!
Would I read more from this author? Yes!

Happy Reading!

I give this book 5 out of 5 stars.

Happy Reading!

The Promise is the fifth book in the Thunder Point series, a small town contemporary romance series which gets better with every release.

While every book features a different couple, we also get multiple perspectives of past couples and residents of Thunder Point featured throughout each and every book, and while most people will read that and think ugh...I hate more than one point of view in a book, for these books it works, it carries the story along and you are left in no doubt as to which characters perspective you're reading at any given time.

Thunder Point's Dr Scott is a widower who has recently moved to town with his two young children to open a new clinic, he is finally ready to move on and find romance again, enter Peyton a nurse who has just ended a disastrous relationship with a doctor and his horrible kids, and is in no way looking for a relationship in any way, shape or form.

But sparks fly when these two are together and it's not long before Peyton realises that not all men are like her ex, and by giving Scott a chance she may just find the kind of love that she's always dreamed of.

The Promise is full of romance, laughter and small town charm that will leave a warm spot in your heart and a smile on your face, long after you've turned the last page.

Robyn has created such a heartwarming, well written series with fleshed out characters that will have you caring for each and every one and will leave you anticipating every new release.

A quick and easy read that I got through in just one sitting, this is one book that you won't want to put down.

I loved Scott and Peyton's book and coming back to Thunder Point to catch up on all the couples and other residents I have come to know and love in this fabulous series. Scott is my version of a lovely man; he loves his children and his patients and is supportive of every person and patient he meets. His commitment to providing medical assistance to the town of Thunder Point makes him irresistible to me. Peyton has reasons to be wary of her judgement when it comes to men but eventually there is no way she can resist Scott. I know I would grab hold of him and his darling children and never let go. The Lacoumette family is a delicious part of this story and I found them wild, raucous and full of life, just as Scott as his children do. The great writing, characters that come to life on the page, and the beautiful location of Thunder Point are why I keep coming back to Robyn Carr's books. They always take me on a wonderful adventure of the heart.

Scott and Peyton meet when she signs on to work with him at his small clinic. The position was supposed to be a temporary solution while she gets her life together, but the town and the doctor prove to be much more than she ever anticipated.

Scott and Peyton both believed they were off limits to each other so they were able to grow close without any pressure. Scott and Peyton both believed in the importance of family and it helped to cement their connection. Their romance took it's time and evolved in a very organic way. Thunder Point and it's citizens really helped to sell Peyton on small town life and on Scott.

The conflict came when Peyton's ex Doctor Ted pops up to stir the pot. He makes Scott feel like he has less to offer Peyton than a Doctor with money living in a big city. But those things aren't as important to Peyton as family and a meaningful relationship.

This book is a great window back into the world of Thunder Point. The scenery is so full of life and warmth that gives everything a depth and feeling. The cast of characters we have already gotten to know so well continue to evolve and become more endearing. I can't wait to go back to Thunder Point again.

A delightful quick read set mostly on the Southern Oregon Coast about a nurse from Portland who has left her position with an important Heart Doctor in Portland. Peyton stops at the medical clinic in Thunder Point to ask the best access to the beach. Devon the office assistant is very friendly as is everyone in town. Peyton takes a temporary job with Scott, the country Doctor even though the salary is insignificant, it is a definite change and a place for Peyton to look at her life deeply. Peyton's job again sees her taking care of the Doctor's children to help out and again falling in love with the Doctor she assists. The author's driving time from Bandon to Vancouver, and to the Mt. Hood area is certainly fast even in a sports car, but if you know the area, it will just add to your enjoyment of the book. I liked this book well enough to try another of Robyn Carr's.

My Review:

I'll be the first to admit that this series hasn't been my favorites from Robyn Carr, but with this novel, she does seem to be hitting her stride on it. I enjoyed this one...and the main reason is that she really kept the focus of the book on Scott and Peyton.

Peyton truly never meant to end up in Thunder Point. Her last relationship with the doctor she worked for ended VERY badly and she needs time to recuperate so she's taking a meandering trip along the coast. She's a highly trained PA and will probably have her choices of where to work next, but she wants to take time to make some decisions about her career and life. In the meantime, she sees an ad looking for a PA in the medical clinic in Thunder Point. On a whim, she answers it and ends up with a three month trial position. She's there temporarily until she makes a decision about what she wants to do next. She knows the one thing she doesn't want to do is get involved with the charming and sexy doctor she works for, Scott.

Scott is a widower with two young children. He's been in several of the Thunder Point novels and is just an all-around nice guy. That doesn't change in this book although he has a few jerk-ish moments at the end when he's dealing with some unpleasant emotions. No, this book is really about Peyton.

Peyton is from a huge Basque family who run a very productive farm. I've never been exposed to the Basque culture before so this was interesting reading in that regard. They have a huge family farm and quite of the book was set there. I liked that aspect of it.

This is a book that's also REALLY about family and there were three family dynamics at play...
1. Scott as a single parent to his two young children. There was a lot about how he balances caring for them with being the town's only doctor and on-call for ER duty. I loved the emphasis on time with them with things like the table fort and how much importance he put on that.
2. Ted, the ex, with his three teenagers was the opposite kind of dynamic. This is a father who doesn't take time for his kids and that shows in their attitudes and the troubles they get into. After three years, both Ted and his heartless kids left scars on Peyton who just wanted to love all of them.
3. Peyton's HUGE family...eight siblings and hundreds of extended family. This is a family that works hard together, but they love just as hard. They fight, but they stand by each other no matter what. Her family taught Peyton her work ethic and that life isn't about things, but people.

Overall, I feel like this was the best book so far in the series. I really enjoyed the family comparisons and what a great team Scott and Peyton make together...both in the family dynamic and in the office as the town's only medical personnel.

I received a complimentary copy of this book in return for an honest review.

This latest addition to the Thunder Point series reunited me with a community I have come to love, though I wasn't as connected to Scott and Peyton as I had hoped to be. As always it is the cameos from recurring characters that help make this series so strong and enjoyable; I loved the ongoing insights into the lives of these people after their happily-ever-afters. I was delighted to see the good doctor find romance, and thought Peyton's family history added a wonderful element of interest to the story. Unfortunately the last quarter of the book was less successful for me because Scott's sudden focus on money seemed to come from nowhere, and I didn't think it was realistic that Peyton could have so badly misjudged the seriousness of the situation with Ted's children. The ending felt rushed to me which was a stark contrast to the slow and gentle way the relationship initially unrolled. A good read, but not my favorite of the series.

I've read a few of the Thunder Point series (out of order) and I like Carr's writing very much. This book focuses on Peyton and Scott. It also spends a lot of time on Peyton's backstory with Ted and his kids. It just didn't work very well for me. I didn't like Ted, his kids, Peyton or Scott all that much.

However, the winning points for me were the details of Basque culture and the ongoing stories of the Thunder Point regulars. I look forward to moving on with the story in the next book and leaving Scott and Peyton behind, at least as the primary focus. Weakest offering in this series yet but still good writing.

I'm so glad the doctor finally got more of a story, but I wasn't exactly pleased by some of his reactions to Peyton. Or how Peyton didn't really explain things thoroughly either.

The story was laid out in such a way that I think the reader is to believe Scott didn't give Peyton a chance to truly explain things, but there were a few times I felt she wasn't as aggressive as she could/should have been.

That being said, I still really enjoyed this story and revisiting my "friends" in Thunder Point. It seems like the next book will give us more new faces than usual and I think that may be a good thing. As much as I enjoyed the love story of Scott and Peyton, I think we need to branch out just a bit from the core group at this point.

Poor Peyton. She didn't know what hit her when she decided to up and move to Thunder Point. Especially to walk into the doctors surgery and apply for the PA job that was currently vacant and to be interviewed straight away by the one and only Doctor Scott Grant. Poor Scott as well lol instant attraction when he saw Peyton for the first time. So happy they found each other in Thunder Point. So similar in every way. It's like they were kindred spirits. I guess they were meant to be. Glad Scott finally realized that she was everything he ever wanted and not some materialistic girl who wanted nice things. Silly man :) Another happily ever for Thunder Point

Another lovely book from Robyn. I adore this series, the cast of glorious characters and how each story brings in the whole crew in every book, even if only a mention or two.
I'm savoring every story and don't want this series to end.
A great writer and story teller. I'm attached to every character and what they are up too.
I'm afraid I'm reading much faster than Robyn is writing.

This is Scott and Peyton's story. Scott the widowed town doctor with two small children and Peyton the physician's assistant who left her rich, divorced Cardiologist boyfriend and his three nasty kids. Not only did Ted the Cardiologist ignore his kids but Peyton as well, he cheated on her and outside of being an excellent doctor had no redeeming qualities. Peyton comes to Thunder Point and her story begins, read it you will love this latest in the Thunder Point series.

Aug.29.2014 - I read it again and loved it again, I guarantee you will love it as well.

A great addition to the series. I just love visiting Thunder Point. Such a quaint and lovable town. Every time I read one of the books in the series I feel like I have become a resident in the town. Scott Grant is the town's doctor who has two little kids. Peyton Lacoumette has just been burned by a doctor and his kids. Peyton has given up on men and dating. She comes to Thunder Point and ends up staying for 3 months to work as Scott's assistant. There is an attraction between the two of them but Peyton doesn't want to get burned again. Peyton needs to work thru her past before she can move forward with her life. This book has a lot of twists and turns in it. I loved every minute of it and look forward to the next adventure in Thunder Point.

The Promise is the fifth book in the Thunder Point series. It has been a while since I read the last one so I didn't remember who everyone was. There was a lot of catch up telling you who was who and whatnot, which even though I didn't remember everyone (there are a lot of characters by this point) it got to be a bit tedious to me. This wasn't my favorite book in the series, but it was an alright read.

Peyton just got out of a three year relationship with a guy who never really seemed to care for her. He just seemed to want a nanny/babysitter/whatever to take care of everything he didn't want to. He had three kids who were a nightmare to Peyton. He was also her boss and when she left she really lost everything. She also learned that he had been cheating on her and really it was all just a big mess. Ted, the ex, seemed like such a jerk. She even realizes that she stayed way longer than she should have. She didn't want to be a failure so she stayed.

Scott you have met in earlier books. He is the widowed town doctor with the two adorable kids. When Peyton decided to stay in Thunder Point for 3 months and work with Scott she thought he was married. If she would have known that he wasn't she probably wouldn't have stayed. After all she didn't want to be a babysitter again for her boss' kids. Even though Scott is nothing like Ted Peyton keeps holding back and making remarks that makes him think she is not sure of that. Scott is totally open and honest with her. He is such a good guy and he tries to move slowly with her. He knows she is not going to stay forever, but he makes sure she knows he loves her and wants her forever.

Some slight spoilers ahead. Things go along smoothly until Ted shows up wanting Peyton back. She doesn't want anything to do with him anymore, why would she when she has Scott, but because she is not open with Scott with how she is feeling and what she is thinking he is jealous. I mean Ted appears to have it all and can give Peyton everything, but what does Scott have? He doesn't have a lot of money, he lives in a little town, he doesn't have everything he thinks she deserves. She also has a great job offer in Seattle which would take her away from him. He knows she is considering it, so after Ted shows up and he is hurt and she has to leave to be with her sister who went into labor he tells her to take this time to think. Take this time to really figure out what she wants and come back only if she wants to stay. He doesn't want her to just uphold her last month commitment if she is just going to leave. That would be too hard on him. What does she say? Okay, I will think about it. She doesn't tell him how she feels. She doesn't tell him how she wants to stay in Thunder Point, even once she has made that decision she doesn't tell him. Then when Ted's daughter calls her for help she goes running and doesn't understand why Scott would be upset. She is hurt that Scott could be unsure of her feelings. Why? Well I don't know. She never told him how she felt! Never! He was so open and honest with her and she always held back. So why would he think that she was choosing to be with him when she didn't even tell him she loved him? It just annoyed me how dense and stupid she was at the end. I felt bad for Scott. Then he ended up being the one to apologize and seek her out. I did not like that. She is the one who should be apologizing and telling him how she feels and everything. She is the one in the wrong in my opinion. So that really made the story end on kind of a bad note for me.

Of course since this is a Thunder Point novel you have more than just Scott and Peyton. I loved Rowley and Carrie's side story. Even though it wasn't really romantic, it was sweet. Rowley is a great guy even if he tends to keep to himself. In earlier books you could really see how big his heart is and how he cares about people. It was sweet. That and Sarah's baby and catching up with everyone else, even briefly. I loved those parts when they weren't just this is so and so, when it was showing what has happened since we last saw them. So overall an alright read. Not my favorite in the series as Peyton annoyed me by the end, but still good.

Also u have to.start at the beginning of the series with first book because characters from each book r in the next one if I could've given this book ten stars I would have .

This is the second book I've read by the author. It's the fifth book in her Thunder Point series. Although she has a lengthy backlist and good sales to her credit, she is not a good writer. She has interesting plots, but dulls them by writing wooden dialog. Her biggest problem is that she tells, rather than shows. She tells the reader that a certain character has a great sense of humor, but never has that character say anything funny. She tells the backgrounds of characters through second- or third-hand sources, instead of writing out a scene that brings the reader into the life of the characters. Peyton, the heroine, is generically beautiful, talented, and hard-working. Scott, the hero, is generically handsome, talented, and hard-working. Because this book is part of a long-running series, it is crowded with secondary characters, whose backgrounds are dispensed with rapidly. Some sex scenes are tossed in, but even they don't liven up the story. Peyton doesn't even spend that much time with Scott, partly because there's so much else going on in the book. Who will babysit Scott's all-too-perfect children - that's one of the plot points, and far from interesting to any reader. Some mention is made of wrangling grandparents, but we don't meet them. Frankly, this book is boring. I didn't find it romantic, suspenseful, humorous or anything other than "meh".

This is another Thunder Point novel from Robyn Carr, which I thoroughly enjoyed. This one is about Scott, the doctor and his love, Peyton. I like this small town series because you really get to know everyone in the series. Scott is a widower and you've seen him in the other books hoping to find someone so it's nice that he does.

You can feel the chemistry between the two characters and you are really rooting for them. Peyton's ex causes some trouble and introduces conflict. The only reason I didn't give it five stars was because I had a little trouble getting into it at the beginning, but overall was a fun, nice book with that wonderful happy ending. I would recommend it.

I have read quite a few books from the Thunder Point series. My favorite is The Chance: Book 4 of Thunder Point series.

This books has two of my favorite characters, Peyton and Scott. The books are very formulaic and that for those that have read the previous books in these series. But, I really like the characters in this story. They had a beautiful story and they were both strong characters.

It's easy to see why Robyn Carr is one of the most popular romance writers. There's a warm sincerity in the way she writes about a small town and its characters. I think her readers also respond to a feeling of familiarity in each of her series. Romance is hardly a favorite genre for me, but even as a guy, I respond to this woman's writing and appreciate the small town atmosphere in her books. I also like the way she writes the men in her books. She does far better in showing the good in a masculine character than many lady writers do. This, as well as practically any book by the author, is highly recommended by me.

The Promise is book 5 in Robyn Carr’s Thunder Point series, and let me say, I have fallen more in love with this series with each book.

One thing that I love about Robyn Carr is that her books deal with real life situations. Her characters are so well written that you truly feel for them, you root for them and you get mad at them. You feel all the emotions from these characters and stories jumping off the pages. You not only fall in love with the main characters, but the secondary characters and the small town of Thunder Point too.

Dr. Scott Grant came to Thunder Point after the death of his wife with his two small children. Scott wanted a slower life and the ability as a doctor to help people and make a true difference. Peyton Lacoumette is a Physician Assistant left a very successful practice after ending a bad relationship and has come to Thunder Point to figure out her next move. Peyton has no interest in dating any man, let alone another man with kids.

Scott is interested in Peyton from the moment he meets her. Scott is finally ready to move on from the loss of his wife. He wants to share his and his children’s life with someone. After their initial meeting, Scott and Peyton believe that neither is interested in the other for various reasons and they begin to form a wonderful friendship. Through this friendship they are able to grow close to one another. Their love story is one that I truly love to read. The kind that slowly builds over time. They are there for one another when needed and help each other through tough spots.

I am sure like other fans of this series, it was great to finally get Scott’s HEA. I have enjoyed him and his children from previous books. He is just one of those romance characters that you cannot help but fall in love with. He has been through so much, but still has this huge heart for his friends and the people of Thunder Point. I loved that Peyton was from this huge crazy family and grew up on a farm. For Scott and his children to be able to have the love and support that came with Peyton’s family was wonderful.

Scott and Peyton complement each other so well. They both have amazing hearts.

I loved this trip to Thunder Point. I enjoyed seeing into the lives of past character from previous books. I am hopeful that our sweet lovable Rawley has found a potential love interest in good hearted Carrie.

Thank you Robyn Carr for another wonderful trip to Thunder Point.

Quick Summary
Dr. Scott Grant is a widower with two small children who recently moved to Thunder Point to raise his family. He also wanted the experience and lifestyle of a small town general practitioner, offering personal rewards if not much money. Peyton Lacoumette, a Physician Assistant, was just passing through, on her way from a bitter breakup to...something else, when serendipity stepped in. She needed a job and Scott really needed help...in more ways than one.

Scott and Peyton
Scott's just the nicest man and a dedicated father to his 5-year old son Will and 4-year old daughter Jenny. In the short time he's been in town, Thunder Point has come to treasure him and want him happy. Peyton is a PA with an impressive résumé, in demand for a lot more money than Scott can pay. But she's intrigued by the other rewards the practice offers and wants to experience small town medical practice for a few months before she decides her next direction.

The romance
A misunderstanding at their initial meeting gave them both reason to believe they were off limits to each other so Scott and Peyton had a chance to get to know each other without pressure for awhile. I liked how their romance meandered a bit, slowly developing throughout the story. Scott's more than ready, just waiting for Peyton to catch up.

The heart of the story
I've waited impatiently for this story and liked that Scott's HEA was with someone like Peyton, someone who shared his passion for healing people and family (she comes from a BIG one). Her back story took a while to unfold and it was pretty extraordinary and interesting. I loved her big, crazy family as it gave me insight into the woman who'd suffered heartbreak recently and was more than this skittish person leery of love.

The bottom line
I really liked this return to Thunder Point and the long overdue romance for Dr. Scott. His efforts to permanently lure the PA gave me incredible insight into the demands of a small town medical practice, making me respect him even more (didn't think that was possible). While there are secondary storylines, Scott and Peyton's dominate and that's a really good thing. I liked her and who she was to Scott, both personally and professionally. Well done.

I enjoyed both characters together as well as on their own. I felt like I got to know Scott a whole lot more in this one than any of the previous installments. I got to see a brand new side of him other than the widower with two small children. Peyton was the perfect match for him; someone who is his equal and adores children. She was a woman of strong moral character; she stepped in and helped out a family when they needed her, even though they were just outright cruel to her for years. I would like to see what becomes of that family in Ms. Carr's future installments.

4 STARS

I like Thunder Point. It is a small beach town in Oregon. The characters are old friends. There are some newcomers too. I want to read more about the characters. The scenery sounds wonderful. I would visit it.
I like how people help others with what they can.

Peyton Lacoumette is new to Thunder Point. Peyton just came from a broken relationship both personal and professional. She is a physician's assistant. She agrees to stay for three months and work at the clinic as she decides what she wants next.

Dr. Scott Grant has opened a small clinic in Thunder Point. He wants to make a difference in peoples lives. He is also a single father with two adorable children. He will never be rich.

This book is set in Thunder Point but a lot of the story happens away from it too. Which is a little different.

I really like Peyton's family. I hope we get to see more of them in the future too. It was fascinating to hear about life on her family's farm and the different recipes her mom fixed.

We get to see what the others in previous books are up to now. All the different characters and the drama of life makes a very well rounded story that brings me back to Thunder Point again and again.

One scene in the book that I would love to do some day but doubt I can do. Is at night in the ocean a bunch of teenagers are laying on their long boards and flashlights looking down into the ocean and see all the life in the ocean.

Peyton has in her life two doctors that are single parents. They are the opposite to each other in most ways.
How they parent are vastly different. Scott is involved in his children's lives. He gives back to the community more than just money.

There was a few love scenes that I skipped over.

I really enjoy the drama in the characters lives and relationships and will want to read more books in the Thunder Point series in the future.

I was given this ebook to read and asked in return to give honest review of it by Netgalley and Harlequin.

I’m a diehard fan, but this is one time I wasn’t crazy about one of Robyn Carr’s books. I liked it, it was a good read, but there was something missing. In dealing with the heroine, Peyton, who has just ended a long-term relationship, so much time is spent rehashing old hurts that her feelings for the hero (Scott) are never fully developed for the reader. The old lover, Ted, becomes the far-too-prominent anti-hero. Mind you, Scott is well portrayed as a completely lovable romantic hero, speaking some of the sweetest words of love in all of Carr’s novels. The problem for me is that wary, prickly Peyton gives him mixed signals throughout the story and never actually says “I love you” directly or indirectly, but poor Scott ends up making apologies for not trusting her!!! After which she still doesn’t say, “I love you!” In fact, her feelings of failure about her previous relationship seem more passionate than her feelings for Scott. If their roles were reversed, the hero would be very unsatisfying.

Some authors fall in love with their heroes. Perhaps Ms. Carr fell in love with both Scott and Ted. Or it may be that we spend so much time with Ted the Anti-Hero because Carr intends for him to become the true hero of a new novel. That would be an interesting—fascinating—read. If anyone can pull it off, it’s Robyn Carr, but perhaps with more clarity than we find here.

Another problem with this novel is that it feels rushed in the writing. Uncharacteristic grammatical errors and an abrupt ending give away a certain haste to reach the finish line. Robyn Carr’s writing is of far too high a quality for her editors to allow this to happen. I eagerly anticipate publication of her novels, but I’d prefer a delay in publication to reading compound subjects followed by a singular verb or finding “indiscriminant” in a sentence instead of “indiscriminate.” It truly distracts you from the story. An okay book from Carr is way better than the best work of many a romance writer. A good effort, but not her best work.

Like this book and all her other books in their own series, are wonderful! I can't read them fast enough and then upset that the book has an ending!
I love all the characters and how she pulls them together in each book. Looking forward to 6 in the series.
Also , would like to see another book come out in the Virgin River Series!
Great job and look forward to more!
I always recommend her books to my friends.

Robyn Carr gives another easy-to-read, easy-to-enjoy visit to Thunder Point. Her characters are well done, though perhaps a little too familiar for fans, and the story moves along at a good pace. Carr does a great job at creating a place the reader can easily imagine themselves in, or even moving to!, and while the story may not be anything ground breaking it is an enjoyable read, perfect for something to just settle down and loose yourself in for a little while and shut out the rest of the world.

I love Robyn Carr's writing. She makes you feel that you could actually live in her stories. Ordinary people, ordinary problems in a beautiful setting. While this book kept my interest, I wanted a bit more. This story begged for an epilogue but there wasn't any. Not even an "I love you" from the heroine. I loved Peyton's family and would love to see more of them. I'd even like to see her exe's kids in future books. But overall, it wasn't the best of the series. Scott and Peyton's story needed to be fleshed out more IMHO.

Even though Peyton isn't the usual type Scott goes for (blonde), he's immediately attracted to her, even when he's under the impression that men aren't her thing. With Scott believing this to be true, it gives them the opportunity to become good friends before anything else.

Peyton, having just gotten out of a relationship with a doctor with kids, would never have taken the job with Scott had she known he was a single father. With how all the townspeople love to talk, all they divulged to her was that Scott was a dedicated family man.

When Scott gets called away on an emergency with no babysitter in sight, Peyton wonders if she's finding herself falling back into the pattern of her previous relationship. It turns out not to be the case, because unlike her previous relationship, his kids adore Peyton. Both the kids and Peyton take an immediate like to one another. Not only do Scott's kids like Peyton, but the whole town of Thunder Point. The locals easily welcomed her into the fold, and treated her as a longtime friend.

Her relationship with Scott was not without its bumps. Of course her ex has to show to cause trouble. He wants Peyton back but feels he's justified in his behavior and treatment of her. Of course to the ex, everything he did was Peyton's fault and never his. This then causes the conflict between Peyton and Scott that every romance must have to keep the story interesting. Otherwise their journey would have been a little too perfect.

THE PROMISE is home-run hit from Ms. Carr. Whenever I'm in a reading slump, I know I can pick up a Robyn Carr novel and climb into a town of friends and family that I never tire of visiting.

Scott Grant moved to Thunder Point to start over after his wife’s death. He’s the town doctor and his two young children, along with his practice, are doing very well. Scott knows he can’t hold onto his grief forever and may be ready to let someone new into his life. Peyton Lacoumette is done with dating, done with men, and done with other men’s kids. Severely burned by her last relationship with a man with kids, Peyton wants to focus on her career. She comes to Thunder Point looking for some time away from the big city and answers Scott’s job ad for a physician’s assistant. Taking the job offer on a trial basis will perhaps give Scott and Peyton the time they both need to heal. Can time and a new perspective give you a glimpse of what could be forever?

THE PROMISE is the fifth book in the Thunder Point series. I really enjoy this series and it was nice to see Dr. Scott Grant’s time to shine. Widowed with the birth of his daughter, he’s been alone ever since. He hasn’t really felt like dating and there’s been no one he’s set his cap on in town. A bit of confusion keeps Scott and Peyton from thinking of each other as eligible matches, but I think it works out because they are able to take the time to truly get to know one another. THE PROMISE is a sweet romance with a blissful HEA, enough to make all readers smile and keep hope in their hearts.

Thunder Point is a great small town series that is largely character driven. The town itself becomes a character that lives and breathes in this series. I was actually surprised that The Promise is book 5, as it stands alone so well. I think you might be ok reading them out of order, but if you are a fan of the genre you cant go wrong with a Robyn Carr series. This is my second Robyn Carr book. I really should go back and read the first three books in this series, but for now, I’m moving forward. I love romance novels when they are done right, and by that I mean when you really feel an emotional connection with the characters; when you find yourself rooting for them. This is how I feel about Robyn Carr’s characters in The Promise, and this is what made it such an enjoyable read.

Strangely, this took me a bit to get into, but not long and I was in my typical Carr land and lost. There's just something about a sexy small town doctor, with kids, that gets to me. Scott had me enthralled. Peyton took a little warming up to, as she was such a determined, headstrong heroine she came off as too aloof at first, until we got to know her. As always, setting, pacing, secondary chracters and h/h jumped off the page. Another win!

It always amazes me how an author can top her last book, but Robyn Carr does it again. neither Scott nor Peyton are interested in a relationship. Peyton is trying to recover from a relationship gone wrong and Scott is still trying put his and his children's lives back together after the death of his wife. Robyn takes you on a journey of healing and falling in love.

The next book in the Thunder Point series and not my absolute favorite, but I absolutely adore the creative ways that Robyn Carr brings new characters to this small town! Peyton comes to town to escape a previous relationship that ended really poorly and she wants a moment to catch her breath and find a new path. Of course she stops in this small town in Thunder Point and her stay may be longer than she first imagined!

I loved this coupling, but at times I was confused by their ups and downs. I wanted the best for them and assumed it would work out, but they were just a little wishy washy for me! The one thing I loved in this book was the increase of updates on other couples; for some reason I felt like I heard more than in previous books about the previous couples that I had loved so much! I wouldn't mind a book that had mostly updates instead of a whole new couple and story.

Robyn Carr is one of my all time favorite authors. Why? Her style of writing brings each and every character alive! And this next book in her Thunder Point series is a perfect example of not only bringing forward previous story lines flawlessly but integrating new stories, new characters in such a way you KNOW everyone in YOUR town!! I would live to find a place like Thunder Point... Thanks Robyn! I'm more than ready to read on :-)

I was a huge fan of Robyn Carr's Virgin River series and that fandom has now extended to Thunder Point.

Ms. Carr creates phenomenal characters that make each return to Thunder Point an adventure. Scott Grant's character is a sexy doctor, but he was made even more attractive by his devotion to his children. However, I was sightly annoyed by Peyton's non-stop comparisons/expectations. I loved her extended family!

The most impressive part of this story was how the author was able to squeeze a complete courtship into a short period of time (the trial period).

Just an FYI, I read this book out-of-order - I read The Homecoming (Thunder Point) before this one. It was not a problem just wanted to state that for the record.

I enjoy the folksy stories about everyday real people, but this story didn't immerse me in Thunder Point like the others usually do. I didn't relate to the main character. Maybe it's just me! Sometimes I like a mystery that you really have to stick with it to get to the end.

I loved it because the characters are real. When they get into fights they say and think things that real people would, not just what storybook characters would. They also go to work and not just go off picnicking, you don't get weeks of them not talking about their normal jobs. The story was so cute and lovable, the children were a cute treat.

Robin Carr is usually a reliable read.
This book is not.
I did not like the dialogue, I found it deeply unrealistic.
The main characters were not likable, and made me not want to finish this book.
Why read a book if you don't care what happens to the characters?
I wasn't a fan of Thunder Point as a community. Frankly, I think the world development here gets in the way of character development.
If this is what Robin Carr has come to, I'd avoid her books in the future.

An easy read that gets you involved in the story, with interesting relationship and people. A pleasant break for me as I usually read suspense and thrillers, so this was a calm adventure for me. The male lead is very honest and genuine, so you just like him. The female main character is strong and makes some tough but wise decisions as the relationship develops.

Always enjoy Robin Carr's writing and this is a novel that I would to recommend to readers who enjoy romance.

Nurse Peyton leaves her job in Portland as the doctor fell in love with another nurse 20 years his junior. Shes been hurt by Ted and his 2 kids who are into all kids of trouble. Looking for a place to sort things out she finds Thunder Point and it just so happend the one doctor in town needs a nurse. On a spur of the moment she applys and accepts the job paying way below what she is used to. She promises to stay 3 months making it clear she had no intentions of any romance.

Scott Grant the doctor has 2 small children and his wife has just recently died. He wasn't thinking romance either. Predictably they end up dating and falling in love. There is sex and they are not married and language I don't care for. Yes, I am conservative if you are as well this is not the book for you.

There are some emergencies and drama especially with Teds girl. There are hurt feelings and misunderstandings followed by appologies just like real life. So I'm not telling you everything but an overview. There are other characters from the first two books as well making changes.

It has been way too long since I have been swept away by the magical feel of one of Carr's small town romances.

There is just something to be said about getting everything you are looking for in a romance in one super charged story. And even though this is part of a series you can read each book as a stand alone and I really do love that. I love that we get glimpses of characters we have already fallen in love with, without having to have read all of their stories first.

Carr has an amazing way of whisking you away to another time and another place. Where things run slower and life is just a little bit easier.

Five reason why you should read this one:

1. That small town feel that you can't help wanting to be a part of, whether you already grew up in a small town or not.

2. The romance. Who can say no to a good romance?

3. Past characters. It is always fun to have a series where each book can be read as a stand alone but even more so when you get to see past characters in said new books and see where they are now.

4. Fun secondary characters. For me, secondary characters can make or break a book.

5. A happily ever after ending. There is nothing like going into a book knowing you are going to get that fell good ending you are craving.
