I have been hooked on this series since the first book. I love that Brie is a part of the book and we are introduced new characters in the "neighborhood" and get to have some of the characters come into the scene. I lvoe that Walt from Summer in Sonama was introduced in this book. Cant wait to see if he is going to be in any of the upcoming books. Looking forward to the new book in Feb

First I need to say that, I absolutely love Robyn's work, I have read every book she has written, so, writing this review, really sucks..
I'm a huge fan of Virgin River, I don't even remember how I found them, but, I haven't stopped reading since. I was so excited about this release, as most of her fans are, waiting for the next installment, check in on all the friends and family that live there, which this book touchs on a little bit. The new story line, this time, to me, was flat, predictable, and in a way boring. There was no punch at the end, for that matter, there was no excitement during the entire story..which as you know, Robyn always has a little surprise for us, didn't happen in this book..there are so many lose ends to tie up, I hope the next book will do that..I will of course continue to read her work, 1 out of like 20 isn't bad

One of my least favorite in the series. Very bland and pretty boring. I was still able to finish the book. Hopped in the sack pretty quick, fell in love to quick. No surprises, no drama. I have really enjoyed all of the books in this series but was quickly let down.

Leslie Petrusco needs to get away from Grants Pass where she's constantly running into her ex-husband. His cheeriness and delight at his new wife's pregnancy is more than Leslie can take, especially when he didn't want children with her. He's a changed man, apparently, one who wants to stay in touch, however, Leslie's had enough and accepts a transfer to Haggerty Construction's Virgin River branch where she fits in as the ultimate office manager.

Connor Danson (real name Danson Connor) had a bad marriage, but he's got worse problems. After having been the only witness to a murder in Sacramento, and having his hardware business burn to the ground, he's gone into the witness protection program. He arrives in Virgin River and finds a job with Paul Haggerty's crew. He also finds Leslie, and though he's not about to lose his heart a second time, the chemistry between them burns hotter than a forest fire.

Neither Leslie nor Connor wants a relationship, but this one seems to take on a life of its own.

Robyn Carr has hit another home run with Hidden Summit. This reviewer, along with thousands of Virgin River fans, has been anxiously awaiting the latest installment. Hidden Summit surpasses all expectations introducing new characters while reacquainting the reader with old ones. I was glad to see Dan Brady reappear, and it was delightful to have Brie Valenzuela as a secondary character. Now I'm awaiting Redwood Bend. Just can't get enough of Ms. Carr and Virgin River.

Five stars for this one.

This is one Virgin River book I was ever so slightly hesitant in reading, unlike the previous books in the series the characters in this installment were both completely 100% new to the series and Virgin River. I love that we usually have an idea of at least one of the characters in the books are like before we get into them so things were a little different. Not in a bad way though, it was nice seeing some new blood in Virgin River.

As always Robyn Carr did a really great job in creating both Connor and Leslie. Both are new arrivals with no long term plans for staying in the quaint little mountain town and both are trying to escape some pretty rough situations and neither counted on falling in love with each other or the town. There's Leslie, office manager extraordinaire, trying to get away from her weirdo ex-husband and Connor, who is in Witness Protection after witnessing a crime and coming forward. Strange circumstances brought them to Virgin River, and while they didn't seem like they'd work at first I really did come to like them as a couple.

Connor was very sweet. He would literally give the shirt off his back to help someone and he has the biggest heart. However, he's no pushover and gives Leslie just enough resistance so that she can't always have her way (though she gets it pretty often where he's concerned). He's funny and charming and while I thought at first that he was a bit too much of a goody goody I'm pleased to say you don't want to cross him.

Leslie, was a great character as well. After the muck up of her marriage to a complete idiot I can see why she wanted to pick up and move on. I just wish that she stood up for herself to her ex-husband (whom we meet) much sooner than she did and as much as I liked her I felt that sometimes she over thought things and got in her own way too much and that kind of detracted from the story.

I enjoyed seeing the usual cast of merry characters and hanging out at Jack's Bar again felt like I was coming home and having a nice catch up with some old friends. I enjoyed seeing everyone again and I loved how they extended the classic Virgin River welcome to both Connor and Leslie who needed some good folks to have their backs.

This Virgin River installment had more twists and turns in it than the usual ones what with Connor being a witness to a murder and Leslie being harassed by her ex but it was a refreshing one nonetheless. My only complaint with this one is that I wish Leslie wasn't the forefront of the story and that Connor was. Leslie as much as I liked her character was a bit too woe is me at times and that detracted from the story a bit.

I would recommend this one to fans of the Virgin River series who haven't read it yet and to new fans. Each story is self contained and a little bit of backstory into the town and its inhabitants are always worked into the books so if you want this can be read without reading the previous books. If contemporary romance with a great setting and wonderful characters and lots of laughs are your thing pick this one up as soon as you can!

Note: Continued story with new characters. 17th in the Virgin River Novel series.
WARNING: This soap-opera style format is confusing unless you read the series in order.

EASY READ. Interesting storyline, likable characters, funny situations, sometimes sassy dialogue, familiar supporting cast for those reading the series, the crazy exes are a hoot, and there is a lot of good, down-home, philosophy sprinkled throughout the story. HOWEVER, the storyline is contrived, the vocabulary is weak, there are some major plot inconsistencies, the suspense of the background story never materializes, the hero and heroine shift personalities very rapidly, the far-fetched ending is very unsatisfying, and honestly, what responsible mom lets her five-year-olds watch the PG-13 movie Avatar.

THE STORY follows office manager, Leslie Petrusco, former hardware business owner, Danson Connor. Months earlier, Danson witnessed a murder by a wealthy, "connected" businessman. He called the police, and the businessman was caught and arrested. Less than a week later his business burns down, his life is threatened, and he goes into hiding in Virgin River.

As the story unfolds, Leslie, long-time manager for Haggerty Construction, moves from the main office to Virgin River to get away from her cheating, self-focused, overbearing ex. There she meets Connor Danson (aka, Danson Connor) who has just hired on as a cabinetmaker. He pursues, she resists for about two minutes, and both realize they might have found that special one they have been looking for. But Connor is living under a false identity and both have a lot of emotional baggage to overcome before they can find a future together.

OVERALL, a familiar storyline, likable characters, but nothing special. The VIRGIN RIVER series includes more than 20 books starting with Virgin River (2007).

You may also enjoy the complex characters and storytelling of N. Bruhns, A. Stuart, or E. Palfrey. For sweet, funny, heart touching romances, try Susan Fox, Cara Colter, or Nikki Logan.

Conner had the unfortunate luck to witness a murder behind his hardware store. After Conner’s store is burned down as a warning against testifying against the murderer, he is sent to Virgin River with a new identity to hide out until the trial. Meanwhile, they send his beloved sister to Vermont to protect her and her twin 5- year old boys. He is just trying to get passed this trial and then get on with his life. He doesn’t expect to make friends, and is not interested in having a relationship with anyone.

Leslie runs away from her home to find a new life away from her ex-husband. She is sick of his crowing about how great his life is with his new wife and their baby on the way. She just wants a new life without her crazy ex hanging around. Unfortunately, the ex doesn’t want to let her go. There are some hilarious scenes of Leslie trying to make her ex understand she is really done with him.

Well, this is Virgin River and both Conner and Leslie end up making friends and important relationships with the town, it’s residents and each other. Conner’s sister is the subject of the next book in the series – I can’t wait!

Hidden Summit: A Virgin River novel is by Robyn Carr. It is a great book and probably one of her best.
Connor Danson has come to Virgin River to hide. He witnesses a brutal murder by a very well-known and liked man. However, the man is ruthless and has Connor’s hardware store burned down and has threatened Connor. His sister and her two sons have been sent to Vermont from California to keep them safe. They are the only family Connor has. Now Connor is in Virgin River until he is needed to testify in Sacramento. He has to start rebuilding his life and deciding what he wants to do now. Meanwhile, he is working in construction.
Leslie Petruso has come to Virgin River to get away from her ex-husband. Although he was the one to cheat, Leslie has come out as the bad person. Also, Greg seems to want to be totally involved in Leslie’s life now even though he is remarried and expecting a child. Luckily Paul Haggarity had opened a construction business in Virgin River and had no objections for Leslie to come work for him to straighten out the company like she did for his Dad. She just wants to get her life back.
Neither are looking for companionship but it comes looking for them.

Do not take my 3-star rating as an indication that this isn't a good book. It is. It just wasn't a great book for me.

Throughout the Virgin River series I have gotten used to Robyn Carr having multiple storylines going in each book. Well, with an exception of some of the Christmas books anyway. Although I really loved Conner and Leslie and their relationship, I missed hearing more about the town as a whole. Especially when it came to Nora and her kids. I really would have liked to see Becca with them a bit more since they touched her so much in the last book.

The only other thing that bugged me was at the beginning. There is a reference to Conner having to make sure his sister, Katie, was financially stable when her husband died. He was in the military. Now I know from experience that our military men and women do not get paid enough, but they have some really good life insurance. When my husband and I were first starting out and barely living above the poverty level with his military pay, he used to joke that he was worth far more dead than alive. Morbid but true. With as much as I respect the authors writing and feel she often has things spot on when it comes to the mindset of military men, I think this little detail was something that shouldn't have been missed.

Even with all of that, this was a solid story and I really appreciated the inside look into Leslie's first marriage. I think I lot of people in this world settle without realizing they are doing so and maybe her story will help wake them up.

Being with him was so easy. He had this gruff exterior and a deep sexy voice, but he had a very soft center. His honesty charmed her to the marrow of her bones. Everything about Conner seemed spontaneous and real as opposed to premeditated. He was what he was, take it or leave it.

Nothing in his life had prepared him for this woman, for Leslie. The way she came to him was magic; she unfolded for him, drew him in as if absorbing him and surrounding him with her love ,
with Conner, love had taken on a new dimension. It was grown-up love, steady and deep. Leslie didn’t have to worry about holding on to Conner by meeting his expectations. This love she felt for him, that she felt from him, was bigger than the biggest love she had ever .
No more trial. No more villain.”
“God, Conner. The one thing I never dared imagine.” “It’s over, Les,” he whispered. “Over.”
She shook her head. “No, Conner. This is just the beginning.”
“Right,” he said, giving her a kiss, longer, deeper than before. “Our beginning

If you’ve read any of my other reviews of the Virgin River series, you know I’m a fan and count these books among some of my favorites. Hidden Summit is another solid addition to the series.

Warning… slight spoiler ahead (even though it is explained in the first chapter).

Hidden Summit opens with Connor entering the witness protection program after seeing a murder and agreeing to help put the criminal behind bars. He’s sent to Virgin River to hide out until it’s time for the trial. Leslie runs to Virgin River to get away from her ex-husband and her old boss runs a construction company based in the small, remote California town. Neither Connor or Leslie are looking for love, but they can’t ignore the sparks whenever they’re around each other.

I really did like this book. I was slightly disappointed when both main characters were completely new to the series, but it was tempered with plenty of cameos from some of our favorite residents. I liked Connor and Leslie, enough that I wanted to see them get their happy ending. Connor’s back story was much more interesting than Leslie’s. As the story developed, I often found myself thinking that Leslie just needed to tell off her ex-husband and get on with her life (always easier said than done).

But in the end, it was the ending that left me cold. It was just so abrupt. I finished what felt like the ending of a chapter, turned the page and the book was over. I was expecting something more and it just wasn’t there. I mean, the romance was finished, Leslie and Connor each resolved their conflicts, but I still felt like I was hanging and I don’t like that feeling.

I still love this series and recommend it to everyone. It’s best read in order, although it does stand alone. And I can’t wait for the next book in the series.

I came to this a Virgin River virgin... but I will probably be reading ALL the books.

Conner Danson is a decent guy who had the bad luck to be the only witness to a murder, and worse luck that the murderer has enough connections to burn down the family hardware store and threaten his life and that of his sister. Leslie Petruso is divorced from a narcissistic personality who won't leave her alone to lick her wounds, but insists she MUST still want to be besties with him and his new, pregnant wife (after long refusing her requests to start a family together). Both Conner and Leslie come to fictional Virgin River, set in Humboldt county California, with romance as the last thing on their minds.

I enjoyed so many things about this book. Both characters are in their thirties, and are not rushing the romance, nor denying the attraction they have for each other. When they do get into bed, condoms are a given, and the sex is hot, but the book is not all about the sex, but a gradually increasing LIKING/falling in love with one another, and a showcasing, however idealized, of small-town life. Although there is the angle that Conner's life is (theoretically) in danger, this is NOT a romantic suspense; the pace is slow, and the ending doesn't come with the hero shooting it out with the bad guy.

I also immediately related to Leslie because I have my own annoying ex in Grants Pass, Oregon, which I found amusing. If you like your romance slowly simmered rather than insta-love, you'll appreciate this book and series.

3.5 Stars. This book is good solid fun. Fans of the Virgin River series will enjoy it and I do believe that even if a reader has never picked up one of the Virgin River books before, Hidden Summit can be read as a stand alone. However, having said that, readers committed to the timeline in Virgin River likely want to stick to the path of reading the books in order as there are changes in characters' lives throughout the series.

Hidden Summit introduces several new characters to the Virgin River cast - Conner and Leslie - and also, suspense into the storyline. Readers get to see old favorites like Jack, Brie and Paul and even some recently introduced or changed characters such as Nora and Cheryl. Hidden Summit has what every good Virgin River story has - good character development, slow building romance, rediscovery of one's self by the characters, detailed descriptions of hard manual work and cooking, scenes at Jack's bar, descriptions of Preacher's good cooking and interactions among good friends. While this is not my favorite in the series, it is a solid entry and definitely worth reading. The dialogue between the two main characters (Conner and Leslie) is pure fun, particularly, their first official encounter. And I look forward to seeing more of both characters, which I believe we will in the next book and which I am anxiously awaiting the release. The main character in the next installment is a sister to the "hero" in Hidden Summit; she was introduced in Hidden Summit, but her story is clearly not finished.

destiny
When Hidden Summit first appeared in the mail, I wasn't too sure about it. I hadn't read any of the previous books in the Virgin River series, but after reading a few reviews, I found out that reading the previous books wasn't necessary- they were just all companions basically and this new addition actually started a new "era" of the series. So I ended up giving Hidden Summit a chance, and I'm so glad I did, because not only did I adore the book, but I've also found a new favorite series, one that I'll surely be reading in the future!

Hidden Summit tells the story of Leslie and Conner, two people who've been especially down on luck lately. For Leslie, Virgin River is an escape from her over friendly ex-husband and his new pregnant wife. She feels that Virgin River will be the perfect chance to start over, and just get away from love and romance for a while. Conner, on the other hand, is running from his past, even though it's the last thing he wants to do. However, he does know one thing: his stay in Virgin River is going to be a quick one where no strings or ties will be left behind. When Leslie and Conner meet, though, sparks fly, and before they know it, they're falling deeper and deeper for each other, but will the past catch up with them sooner than later? Only time and more pages can tell in this fun and sweet romance read that ensures a happy ending for all!

Told in alternating points of view, Hidden Summit allowed for me to get into both Conner and Leslie's heads, which let me to not only fully get to know them, but also really understand their actions and decisions. Plus it didn't hurt one bit that I adored both! Conner was the typical rugged yet sweet hero. One who has had a sad past, but still may get a chance at a fabulous future. Leslie, on the other hand, was a great heroine. She was sweet, funny, and she fully held her own! She was no damsel in distress...that's for sure! I especially loved how she constantly stood up for herself, especially when her ex-husband was involved. I also loved the addition of the community of Virgin River. Everyone was also so distinct and likable to the point where I'm dying to read the past books to know everything about them!

The plot in this was not necessarily the most complex or suspenseful, but I still ended up really enjoying it. It was fun seeing Conner and Leslie begin to fall in love, and became even better people because of it. I also liked how Robyn developed their relationship at a reasonable pace. Another great addition was the parts about Conner and Leslie's past. All the the little tidbits and twists that showed up because of them truly made this book even better in my eyes!

Finally, I really enjoyed Robyn's writing She truly knows how to write a feel good story, one similar to a Susan Mallory and/or Emilie Richards book- both authors I adore as well. I especially loved the descriptions of Virgin River. It made me really want to live in that tiny little town, even though I currently live in small town and hate it. ;)

In all, I can't suggest Hidden Summit high enough. Fans of women's fiction as well as romance will just eat this book right up, because not only is it sweet and realistic, but it's sure to bring out a smile or two as well. Word of warning, though: you'll be dying to read the past and future books once you're done!

Broken hearts and wounded souls that find their way to Virgin River discover a place with its own unpretentious, homespun magic. It is certainly not a community of saints. It is a community of flawed but caring people who create the magic in many ways--from helping an abused, single mother with housing, food, and even protection to just the good-humored courtesy of putting the seat down on the toilet. Somewhere amid this magic, love abides and wiggles its way into the hearts and lives of those who once seemed broken and wounded.

Conner Danson and Leslie Petruso come to Virgin River and work for Paul Haggerty in the construction business. Both of them arrive with emotional baggage that derailed their lives, but in different ways. Conner, who feels like he is being "punished by the whole universe", is in hiding, waiting to testify against a powerful man in Sacramento. Moreover his business was burned down, and he is separated from his sister and her twin sons for whom he feels responsible. His secretive ways set him apart for a short time. But his six foot two "warhorse" physique with his handsome face and deep sexy voice, spontaneous charm, and his "what you see is what you get" manner make him too interesting to not notice. Even Leslie Petruso notices him and she has come to Virgin River disenchanted with men.

Leslie, the long-time office manager for Haggerty Construction's main office in Grants Pass, comes to work in Paul's young, fast-growing branch of the business. She needs to escape her ex-husband who won't leave her alone even though he has remarried and has a child on the way. His narcissistic ways pass all reason. She'd kowtowed to his needs and ambitions for years then he set her aside for a "new model". Leslie's self esteem and confidence were demolished. Any idea she might have harbored about being able to give and receive sexual pleasure vanished. Even though her self-image is in tatters, she sets to work to put Paul's office (a mobile trailer) in order. Her innate sunny disposition nature reemerges as she cleans floors, organizes files, and wins over the all-men crew. Her sense of humor and caring nature come out of hiding also.

In tiny increments, Leslie and Conner get to know each other. Both skittish of long-term expectations, they move along with humor, easy camaraderie, and poke fun at themselves, e.g. "What a couple of go-gathers we are". They progress from planting flowers in her yard to "friends with chemistry" to breathtaking love making that makes HIDDEN SUMMIT sparkle and sizzle.

The undercurrent of suspense about Conner's danger of being found and killed and Leslie's self-absorbed ex-husband's outrageous pursuit of her builds tension and keeps one turning pages.

The secondary characters, many of whom a reader of the Virgin River series recognizes, make the story come to life. They reinforce the idea "that our biggest blunders can end up being the best thing that ever happened to us". What fun it is to visit Jack's Bar and find that Preacher is still the same eccentric cook as well as getting to catch up with what's been going on with other vicarious friends in Virgin River.

The antagonists cannot be ignored, but they cannot override the magic that makes Virgin River that special place where love blooms. If you have not read other books in the Virgin River series HIDDEN SUMMIT is a good place to start then work your way backward to learn about other characters with captivating love stories and, of course, look forward to the next book REDWOOD BEND to find out more about Katie, Conner's sister, and her twin sons.

Robyn Carr creates fascinating, life-like characters and strong, gripping conflicts with subtle humor, exquisite descriptions, and breathtaking, world shattering love scenes. Her books are keepers.

Leslie Petruso has had enough of her ex-husband and his lovely new wife. He may be happy and want them to be friends but Leslie has no desire to put on a happy face for her cheating ex any longer! Since the town of Grant's Pass seems to fall at her ex's feet she sees only one option: it's time to move. Leslie takes the secretarial job at Haggerty Construction in Virgin River.

Conner Danson has had a rough time as well. Recently divorced Conner is moving to Virgin River to hide. He witnessed a murder and has been threatened by the high profile suspect. Conner's not too keen on moving to a small town or being separated from his baby sister and her two boys. However, after his family's hardware store was burned down he was left with little choice. Conner also takes a job at Haggerty Construction.

Sparks fly over coffee for Conner and Leslie. Neither is eager to get into deep relationship so playing it light and easy suits them both. It doesn't take long for these two to realize that getting serious has its benefits. As Conner's trial date looms closer he rethinks his original assumptions about small towns. Virgin River may be the perfect place for him to start life anew and if Leslie's by his side all the better. If Conner can survive the trial and Leslie her ex they may have the foundation for everlasting love.

Hidden Summit is a sweet addition to the Virgin River series! Conner and Leslie are perfect for each other. Conner comes off very negative in the beginning. He does have a right to be perturbed over his situation but he has things to be grateful as well. Virgin River is the perfect place for him to find the real Conner. Leslie needs Virgin River just as bad as Conner. She needs a place that recognizes her for the beautiful smart woman she is so that she can see it herself. I was touched by Leslie's situation. Divorce is tough and it's easy to lose yourself in the aftermath. I love Virgin River so much. It is like visiting family as I read about these characters and each novel introduces new people to love. I get so excited every time I read one of these novels. Robyn Carr and her enchanted pen have given Virgin River and the characters life in my mind. I just love these people. To live in a place where people look after one another and wish only the best upon others is truly sensational. Hidden Summit is all about second chances in life and love. The romance in Hidden Summit is realistic and delightful.

When I read the blurb for Hidden Summit I was so thrilled to see a heroine with my name! I can't tell you how rare it is. I don't remember ever read a romance with a heroine named Leslie. But that's just a bonus since this is Robyn Carr's Virgin River series.

If you have to hide out, Virgin River, California isn't a bad place to do it. Conner Danson has lost everything and is now pretending to be someone else. I was expecting him to be a bitter recluse but he surprised me. He's friendly with the locals and slowly becomes part of the community. In doing so he also starts a friendship/romance with his co-worker Leslie Petruso.

Leslie Petruso is leaving her past behind for a new start in Virgin River. Her ex-husband is a complete ass, I couldn't believe some of the stunts this guy pulled! He definitely had a few screws loose. What she finds is a new home, new friends and a new guy. She hit the jackpot! She's smart, funny and a good friend. She's an easy heroine to like.

The romance is sweet and easy. Surprisingly it was Connor doing the chasing. I thought it would be Leslie trying to pull him out of his shell but it turned out he just couldn't resist her! She's the one who tries to put the breaks on and it makes sense since her ex is El Wackjob! Conner is persistent and woos Leslie, giving her every reason to say yes. I liked how Carr kept the power in this romance equal, with both saying how they felt and actually talking about their past relationships and the difficulties they have to over come.

It was great seeing the Virgin River gang. Jack is still as friendly, and nosy, as can be and Mel is there to rein him in. Brie got some page time, since she is Conner's local contact. And there are some fairly new residents that we got to see more of. Leslie and Conner fit right in with this close-knit community.

There is a suspense plot running through the story but much of the time I forgot about it. It stayed mainly in the background until near the end. The resolution to the plot felt rushed. It was the weakest part of the story. The main focus is on the developing romance between Leslie and Conner. Carr does do a nice job of including the other residents without loosing sight of the romance.

Hidden Summit is another terrific addition to this beloved series. (Grade: B+)

Hidden Summit is Robyn Carr's latest visit to Virgin River. Connor Danson is in town under a false identity while he waits to testify in a murder trial. He is the only witness to the crime and his custom carpentry business was torched in an attempt to intimidate him. He decides to work for Haggarty Construction while in town.
Leslie Petruso has also come to Virgin River to get away from something- her ex-husband. I enjoyed the little twist Ms. Carr put in this relationship-rather than a nasty ex, Leslie has a too friendly ex. She worked for Haggarty at a different branch and ends up in the same office as Connor.
Visiting VR is always fun. Readers of the whole series enjoy seeing what is new with familiar characters from past books. New readers will enjoy the story of two people who think that love and life have chewed them up and spit them out. Both Connor and Leslie know that they should not get involved, but for different reasons. Reading the story, you know that this romance is going to have a major problem at some point but you root for this couple anyway. The chemistry between them is strong and they decide to throw caution to the wind and get involved. Connor's real life will intrude on them and Leslie's fear of betrayal will only be greater when the story comes out. The whole situation with her wacko ex-husband doesn't help keep things either.
Once I started this book, I couldn't stop reading. There is a side story going with Connor's sister and her children and you can see that it is the set up for the next book. Goody! I can't wait!!

I never put spoilers in my reviews.
Robin Carr is a fabulous storyteller. A storyteller draws you in, sometimes in spite of yourself. She makes you want to live in Virgin River, reminds you that people are at their best when they work together for the common good- not dependent but interdependent. She does all this while not romanticizing the difficulties of small town rural living.
In the Virgin River series Ms. Carr writes romance but not fluff, tackling such issues as PTSD, homelessness, alcoholism, the difficulties those returning from war face, recovering from loss-of all kinds...so many of life's challenges. At the heart of the entire series are the Marines, and other armed forces, that serve and/or have served our great nation who find their way to this rough jewel of a town.
I'm always renewed in spirit when finished with one of her books, you will be, too.

Leslie's ex divorced her but won't let her alone so she moves to Virgin River to work for her boss' son. Conner witnessed a murder and then has his business burned. The DA happens to have an ex-assistant who lives in Virgin River so he gets hidden there for a few months, where he goes to work for her boss. There is practically instant attraction, though neither of them say they are looking. As is usual in these books, there are a couple of steamy scenes. I enjoyed watching these two let go of the past and embrace a future together.

Old Virgin River friends make cameo appearances but there are no major sub-plots in this book. Conner has a sister who was also relocated by the DA, but she was sent across the country where she begins a relationship with a dentist who is wonderful, but who lacks that "spark" (he hasn't even kissed her) so I wouldn't be surprised to see the sister visit Virgin River (where all the men have "spark") in a future book.

In short, this is a pretty typical Virgin River book. If you like most of them, you'll like this; if you've hated others, this one isn't all that different. Grade: B.

This is the first book of the Virgin River series that I've ever read and I was pleasantly surprised to be so entranced with the characters and setting. I'm sure I'd have gotten even more out of it if I'd read any of the previous books. I love Leslie's dealings with her ex-husband Greg and the tender romance that appears even though neither Conner nor Leslie were expecting it. I like Conner's stand-up strength of character and you can see the same in Leslie - in the whole of the townsfolk even. I'd recommend this book for a good winter night in front of the fire or a relaxing day at the beach.

A perfect piece of women's fiction, filled with mystery, intrigue and of course some romance. A story that bounces back and forth between a man and a woman who find themselves in a small town both escaping past loves and him maybe a little more. He is hiding from a crazy mobster that would definitely want him gone as he is a sole witness to a murder that could nail this mobster down.

I loved watching their romance slowly grow through the awkward first meeting to, well I just can't share or it would ruin your reading! Especially since I recommend this one to fans of the romance genre. There isn't so much push and pull as in some romances which tends to make the story a little unbelievable and may even drag the story down - not so in this book. You are hooked from page one until the end.

One warning to those who may pick up this one, if you are faint of heart when it comes to sexy times in a book - this one had a few scenes that bordered on racy, but nothing beyond what you may find on your daily soap opera.

Grade: B.

"The only thing worse than feeling rejected is feeling like a damn fool."

The audacity! How could a man be so self-centered to think that he could cheat on his wife, divorce her, leave her with nothing, and remain close friends? Leslie Petruso isn't sure what her ex is thinking but she's planning to hide out with some friends in Virgin River until the idiot realizes that it's just not going to happen.

Conner Danson, on the other hand, is hiding out for completely different reasons. He's been separated from his sister and nephews, the only family he has left, just because he's the star witness in a high profile murder.

Their secrets are keeping each of them alone... Can they find a way to be alone together?

The first few pages of Hidden Summit by Robyn Carr were like the first few bites of a Birthday Cake Sundae with Reece's Peanut Butter cups mixed in.....Really Good.....and then halfway to the middle, I start to get a stomach ache, or in this case.....my focus was gone.

Conner Danson was just the kind of hero I like....Cropped hair, broad shoulders, goatee and blue, blue eyes behind thick lashes....I mean...OH yeah!! And the way he wanted to take care of his sister and her two boys, and his trust issues from a cheating spouse...I mean..who wouldn't want this sexy, bad boy to have a starring role in her dreams.

So we started out good...and then we meet Leslie, who is trying to escape the pressure from her image-conscious Ex and his new pregnant wife...UGH!! I liked Leslie from the start and was definitely in her corner when it came to her weasel of an ex. I was pulling for her and Conner to get together, but then it was just.....I don't know...Boring??

I felt as if I was reading about a couple that was reading a scene from a movie. The dialogue was just...OFF. Some of the things he said were unbelievable and it just didn't match up with the kind of guy that he was portrayed to be. This was where I stopped caring about what happened to this couple, ok...I kind of still cared and skimmed through the rest of the book to the end.....BUT...I wasn't invested in the story and I HATE...HATE when that happens.

All in all...Hidden Summit was just OK...

On a bright note, I did like Katie, Connner's sister, who will be the heroine in Redwood Bend, the next Virgin River book due out February 28th, 2012. Maybe Katie and her sexy biker, Dylan will keep me reading the Virgin River Series!!

I also have read and enjoyed all of the Virgin River books including the novellas except for this one. Leslie and Conner are two new characters who are recently divorced with crazy ex's wanting reconciliation. Conner starts out brooding, but when he meets Leslie his demeanor suddenly changes. I thought it was too quick and so was the start of their relationship. Their relationship revolved around sex from the very (very) start, as well as, their situations with the ex-spouses. Their relationship was flat. I can't really define it, but something was missing from the two. They had drama outside of their relationship, but not very much in it.

Another problem I had was this - Bree Valenzuela is helping Conner hide in Virgin River before he testifies in a court case that poses a dangerous threat to him and everyone he knows. He is using a fake name and his sister is also in hiding. The threat never materialized. It was a missed opportunity to add suspense and more drama. It just hovered in the background and the conclusion of this plot line was lackluster. Plus, when Walt Arneson rides into town (apparently from another Carr series) I was baffled. I have never read any other series from Carr so the scene made no sense to me and confused me because of the Virgin River character Walt Booth (Vanni's father and Muriel's husband).

The highlights - Katie, Conner's sister. Katie is a war widow and is looking to fall in love again. Plus, the young abandoned mother, Nora, from Bring Me Home for Christmas (Virgin River Novels) , makes an appearance and more of her story is told. What happens to her was the most exciting part of the book.

Hidden Summit was also a nice reminder of familiar characters - Bree and Mike, Becca and Denny, Paul and Vanni, Jack and Mel, Noah and Ellie, Dan and Cheryl, & Becca and Denny.

I love the Virgin Riverseries so always am excited when I get to read another. I can't really pinpoint why this one wasn't up to par for me. I loved the idea of the story but somehow it just did not grab me. It did keep me worried about the possible threat occurring to the star eye witness (the hero) in a murder case - but it never "really" happened (don't want to write a spoiler). I loved visiting with past friends from earlier books. And I liked both the hero and heroine. BUT ... it just didn't light any fires in me. I had to push myself to finish the book - which I was glad I did. But even the very last page was a bit...lackluster. But I still love the series and love Roby Carr's books.

When Conner became the only witness to a murder he had to flee from everything he knew and everyone. While he started new life in virgin rivers he fell for les. Almost from 1st second in town. Both les and conner both didnt want any relationship but the water in virgin rivers is too much.

Connor Danson is hiding in Virgin River until he can testify in a criminal trial to convict a murderer. Leslie Petruso is trying to start over after a failed marriage. Neither one of them wants to start anything but they work for the same construction company. Soon friendship turns to passion and Connor opens up to her as he lets his past go. Leslie struggles to rid herself of her nuisance ex-husband who wants to be friends. Can a love survive if Connor has to hide for the rest of his life?

Another story of love, hope and friendship in a small mountain town. The characters could be the readers friends and relatives. Settle in and enjoy a great read and meet new friends like Connor, Leslie and young Nora. Like all other Robyn Carr Virgin river stories, this feels like home.

This is the second book about the town of Virgin River that I have read and enjoyed. I want to read the rest of the books sometime. Thier's a few love scenes in it. Virgin River community is what is ideal about it. They all pitch in and care about each other. Makes me want to be a better nieghbor.
Conner Danson owned a business and worked hard. Conner help take care of his widow sister and their twins. One night he was taking trash out the back of his store when he saw a murder take place. Conner called the cops and was willing to testify than his store was burned down.
the DA called his sister and hid Conner Danson in Virgin River and his sister in the East Coast. Dan Conner was his new name and worked construction for a job.
Conner was also divorced after catching his wife with another guy and found out their had been lots of guys.
Leslie Petruso moved to Virgin River after her divorce and his remarrage. She was still hurting to see her ex with his wife everywhere she went. Leslie ex still wanted to be good friends with her. So she told her boss of ten years that she was quitting. Her boss got her a job with his son who split off to start his own construction business in Virgin River. Paul Haggerty worked with dad some of the same time with Leslie and was glad to hire her. Paul knew she could do the job and his wife was glad to not do office work for him.
Conner and Leslie both did not want relationships right now with all their baggage. They made he each other laugh and grew closer.
I like the community and how welcome the people of Virgin River were. They helped each other when they saw the needs. I read it without putting it down.
I was given this ebook to read in exchange for honest review from Netgalley.

This is for the Audio Book: Leslie Petruso is new to Virgin River and so is Conner Danson. Both are through with love so of course we all know what is going to happen. There is a big element of suspense and danger for Conner. He is hiding out until the trial of the man he commit murder. Another great set of characters, a visits with some from previous books and a wonderful story to go with all of that. I read the book but still enjoyed the recording. I picked it up because I did not see anything else that interested me. Therese Plummer does a great job reading Hidden Summit.

Leslie Petruso and Connor Danson both came to Virgin River to escape their old lives, although Connor's was not by his own choice. He's being stashed away as a witness to a murder committed by a prominent businessman in Sacramento while they await the trial. Leslie wants to get away from her ex-husband who wants them to remain close friends along with his new pregnant wife. Both Leslie and Connor see their stay in Virgin River as temporary until they figure out what's next.

When Connor sees Leslie for the first time it's an instant attraction. She has a similar reaction when she meets him at Paul Haggerty's office where they both are beginning work. Leslie and Paul are old acquaintances since she worked for his family's business in Grants Pass. Neither is interested in a committed relationship given Leslie is still healing from her divorce and Connor is living a secret life. Chemistry soon takes over and they embark on their "commitment free" relationship that transforms both of them.

Connor and Leslie are extremely appealing characters at the center of this story. Following their developing relationship was an interesting journey as they discovered themselves as well as each other. It was heartwarming to see Leslie blossom and get a backbone as she starts to see just what she's made up of. Connor, who's been a workaholic his entire adult life, has a chance to step back and create relationships outside of work for the first time ever.

Of course, the town of Virgin River orchestrates its typical magic, with many of the residents we've come to treasure appearing in the story in substantive roles. However, what sets this one apart is that all of the subplots center around Connor and Leslie, either as individuals or as a couple. While I have come to expect and prefer the multiple storylines that characterize this series, the focus on these two characters really works. We get to be immersed in their romance, watch it and them blossom and finally evolve.

I really liked this story and am a huge fan of Connor and Leslie. Carr invested a lot of time in developing these characters and their relationship and it pays off in a big way. This ranks as one of my favorites but, of course, I cannot wait for the next installment in the series.

(I received an ARC from Net Galley)

I pre-ordered Hidden Summit and was ecstatic when it appeared on my Nook Tablet. As I have stated before this is one of my favorite contemporary romance series. Carr has a gift for spinning delightful tales about this small California mountain town. Each time I visit, she brings fresh characters and a storyline that captures me from page one.

In Hidden Summit we meet two new strangers. First we meet, Leslie Petruso, who needs a fresh start after her divorce. She is a spunky blonde, who has no trouble handling men at the job site; but on the inside her self-confidence is in ruins. Next we meet sexy, hard-working, blue-eyed Conner Danson. He is the only witness to a violent crime. After his business is burned to the ground and his life threatened the DA arranges for him to hideout in Virgin River until the trial. Alone and with way too much time on his hands, Conner begins to access his priorities. Both have suffered from prior relationships and are trying to regroup. The chemistry between them is immediate, believable and smokin'. Carr amps up the loves scenes in this novel and she does so beautifully.

One of the things I love about the town of Virgin River is the way in which the community comes together to protect their own. Unlike a lot of small towns, they immediately welcome Leslie and Conner into their fold. While the main focus of the story is Conner and Leslie, we get to know more about the comings and goings of the town. We reconnect with the young mother of two, whose husband drops her in Virgin River and leaves. The town drunk is finally getting her happily-ever-after and we meet up with plenty of familiar faces at Jack's tavern.

There were quite a few twists and turns in Hidden Summit, that kept me turning the pages. I finished this in one evening, simply because I couldn't put it down. I highly recommend this series to fans of small town romances and feel good series. While some of the stories have made me shed a tear; for the most part I walk away from my visit feeling good and anxious to return.

I am delighted to inform you that I have received an ARC of Carr's next book in the series, entitled Redwood Bend. It is expected to be published February 28th, 2012. I will share my review with you in early February.

Like Carr's other Virgin River novels, this was a pleasant, comfortable story. The nice people have problems, but they seem a step removed from their lives as we read about them. Though I felt Leslie's frustration with her ex-husband and enjoyed the way she handled him, I never worried about her ability to solve her problem. Connor's danger never seemed to come close, even at the courthouse where his enemy loomed so menacing. Perhaps if I had witnessed the crime with him, instead of merely reading about it after the fact, I would have feared more for his safety. It was a nice love story.

This was a great story about Connor Danson and Leslie Petruso. Connor after witnessing a murder is placed in Virgin River to hide out until the trial, which also separates him from his family. His younger sister Katie and her twin boys. Connor begins to fall for Divorcee Leslie who is dealing with an ex-husband who just won't let go regardless of the failed marriage. She finds her own way to get on with her life with Connor in it, and realizes she can accomplish anything with her friends and new romance with Connor. Connor decides in the end he would prefer to spend his life with Leslie and live in Virgin River. What a great book full of humor, romance, and ups and downs of relationships!

While it's always great to visit Virgin River, other books in the series have been better (i.e. Sheltering Hearts, Whispering Rock, Forbidden Falls). Robyn Carr's strength is weaving new characters in with the old. Enjoyed the update on Brady and his lady. Looking forward to the next book, Redwood Bend, at the end of the month.

Leslie Petruso left Grants Pass and her ex husband Greg to start over in Virgin River, California hoping to regain her self esteem working for one of her former bosses at Haggarty Construction Paul Haggarty offered her a job as office assistant. She wants peace with no relationships beyond friendship as she still recovers from catching her husband of eight years cheating; he since has remarried and his new wife is pregnant. The hurt is big because Greg told her no children.

Sacramento Office of the District Attorney ADA Ray Maxwell asks his former colleague Brie Valenzuela to provide carpenter Conner Danson a place to hide until he testifies against affluent Regis Mathis in a homicide case. Thus Connor is in Virgin River temporarily.

When Connor and Leslie meet, they are attracted to one another. However, each is wary of any attraction having been hurt before. Still as they spend time together Connor and Leslie fall in love; but their pasts remain a hindrance to their future.

The latest Virgin River romance (see Bring Me Home for Christmas) is an engaging tale starring two newcomers finding love as they start over together. Greg is a fascinating troubled individual who is a harassing codependent with a need to be first chair; while Connors former wife Samantha is a manipulative piece of sh*t. Although neither spouse has any redeeming qualities, readers will enjoy a visit to Virgin River.

THe more I read of Carr's Virgin River series, the more I wish I'd started them sooner. Her characters are fantastic and the dialogue makes me laugh and even sometimes, cry. Wonderful warm contemporary series.

I read because of this unique town and group of people I have become involved with. It held my interest all the way thru and I was really waiting on the next move throughout the book. It's a wonderful book that you will want to get to the next page fast. I love this little town and their spirit they emit to each other. It's a what's gonna happen next kind of book.

I liked this book because it includes more interaction between the town's regular characters with the two main characters. It is after all the entire town we've fallen in love with :) And if you are a true Robyn Carr fan, there is a scene in the book that is going to make you scratch your head for a second and think "hey wait a minute" :) Very slick Robyn :)

Love the Virgin River Novels. The characters are realistic - the plots are fun to follow. The ending had a twist that was not expected, but a logical outcome. I am a big fan of whatever Robyn Carr writes!

I gave this mystery and two others in the series by the author as inexpensive Christmas gifts to my sister-in-law. She loved them so much she couldn't put them down before reading through, and told me she plans to find more by this author on her new e-reader. I'm very happy to have chosen these gifts for her, and highly reccomend them to mystery lovers.

I usually love this series, very easy fun reads with my favorites being promise canyon and harvest moon. This was boring and seemed like it just kept going. I hope the next 2 in the series come back up to the usual standard because this one fell flat.

I was very excited to read this book after reading may reviews on the book and author in general. I never really got into the book. I found the story line to just be very typical and not that interesting. Also, I found myself skimming through a lot of the details because they were boring, unnecessary, and didn't draw me in as a reader.

Sounds like an interesting crime book but it's by no means that. The crime part takes up about 30% of the story.

I really have liked every one of this series. It reminds me of where I live and the people around me. Can't put these down. If you like small towns in the mountains and a continuing series, you will love these books.

Conner and Leslie's story is one of my favorites. "Conner" is hiding out in Virgin River for "witness protection" and needs to lay low, he meets Leslie a woman running away from her "perfect" ex, who has been devastated by the divorce and her ex's refusal to understand she doesn't want to be friends with him and his new wife. Both characters have to work through their trust issues while learning to realize they are not quite what the other thought.
