Unfortunately as is always the case with Christie, the detective is privy to a variety of clues unavailable to the reader. Otherwise fun to read. She still holds the record for the best mystery ever written (And Then There Were None)

You just have to face it - either you a Poirot fan or you are not. These delightful stories show the Poirot detection in a smaller format as usual, as a restful contrast to the longer novels. Well worth reading!

Not the same level of detail as in the Poirot novels, and that was a little disturbing for me, but of course short stories cannot be expected to provide the same level of detail. A good, entertaining read.

Classic short stories from dame Agatha. This is a great choice for the kindle. Perfect book those moments when you need to read something but don't have time for something longer. Great for the train or a lunch break.

This is a compilation of Christies's short stories. The Kindle edition is very well done and worth the price paid. I am enjoying it even more by reading a story and then watching the Poirot episode (David Suchet) on my Kindle. In some instances the PBS series has added some characters and expanded on some stories in order to make for good drama. The PBS series is very well done and compliments the stories by Agatha Christie. I will now look for more of the longer Poirot mysteries to read on my Kindle.

Here they all are! All the Hercule Poirot short stories by Agatha Christie in chronological order (note that the vast majority of the stories were first published in magazines so they don't necessarily agree with the order they were compiled in book form). This contained a number of stories I had never read before, so I would say it's well worth the cost for any fan of the Belgian detective!

These stories are formulaic but an easy pleasure. One thing I found interesting was how much development was needed to turn Christie's short Poirots into television episodes. If you're coming to these from the splendid PBS series, you might be startled at how thin they are. Yet the plots are crafty, and Christie's sympathy for her characters comes through even in the short form. Like many readers, I miss Hastings in the later stories; he was a useful foil to the always brilliant little Belgian.

I love Agatha Christie's Hercule Poirot. First got to know Poirot through the masterpiece mystery series starring David Suchet which you absolutely must watch. This book did not disappoint. Easy to read in bits since it's short stories, but no matter the length of the story they are all good. Some are quiet short while other are a bit longer (still much shorter than a novel).

First the one negative - the story they claimed hadn't been published in decades has in fact been published, but with a few changes (different detective mostly) so it's not a story you will never have read before.

Otherwise this is a great collection. It's wonderful to have all of the stories in one place.

Short stories are neat to have, for those few minutes between stuff. These are all fun, some great, some just OK. They are chronological in this book, beginning in 1923, so you see how Agatha's writing changed and improved over time. Also fun, I thought, was the somewhat old-fashioned language. Even had to check the dictionary for some unkown words. I enjoyed it a lot. Of course I am a great fan of the Poirot movies.Sure worth the price.

If you love Agatha Christie and Hercule Poirot in particular and don't have much time to read a long story, this book is for you. The stories are short and very much the conceited Hercule Poirot. I read at night and sometimes I can't stay up long enough to read a long story so with this book I can read a whole story or two before I fall asleep. This book is worth the price...you will not be sorry.

I was very pleased with the book! I purchased it as a gift and it came in very good condition. The only thing is that in packaging the top left corner was bent over. Otherwise, the book was in brand new condition. I have not read the book but I probably will after my mother gets through with it. Hercule Poirot is always a good read.

Fonts are very small. If you have any vision problem, my recommendation is to avoid this version. Probably the electronic version would be much better due to the fact that reader can change the magnification.

I chose to purchase this book because Poirot is, indeed, the most brilliant detective of all time. However, this particular publication was a major disappointment because the print size was infinitesimally small. There was no warning in the details section of the the store website advertising this fact. I can only hope that in the future the store will include type/font size in its list of details for the books it sells.

A lot the endings to the stores contained within are so left field, so implausible they were probably the inspiration for Raymond Chandler 's essay "The Simple Art of Murder". Chandler critiques these types of stories for lacking realistic characters and plots. And he's RIGHT.
And yet... and yet! I cannot stop reading these stories (for the second time!).
These stories cannot be taken seriously, and some may induce eye rolling. They are the equivalent of a summer blockbuster movie: dumb fun and you'll forget about them 5 minutes after you finish.
Now, if you'll excuse me, I have to go read some more of them.

Though I have Murder in the Mews, the mass market paperback which contains the title story, and three other great Poirot short stories by Agatha Christie, when I ran across this one some long while ago in Mogo on vacation, I had to have it. The introduction, called Enter Poirot, is by Christie herself, from An Autobiography, and it’s nice that it’s included. The Affair at the Victory Ball from 1923 begins a salvo of chronologically arranged Poirot short stories like no other.

Reading through this one took me quite some time after I acquired it, and now I return to it for brief periods to read one of them again. Because I’ve seen all the David Suchet adaptations on television over the years, which are wonderful, it was nice to note some small differences here and there in some stories. Overall, however, it was nostalgic reading these stories, and being able to picture the events playing out better because of having seen — many times — the adaptations starring Suchet as Poirot.

As another nice review here mentions, being objective here is nearly impossible at this juncture. Sure, some of the stories aren’t as good as the others, and these have taken on a legendary status for mystery lovers. But it doesn’t matter, because there are so many wonderful moments that a cumulative effect begins to takes place. All we remember is how much we love these Poirot mysteries, and how much affection we have for Hastings, Miss Lemon, and yes, Japp. Reading these stories is like visiting old friends.

We’re on page 865 here when we get a fabulous bonus to all the stories we know so well — and perhaps a few we’ve forgotten. Here we come to a postscript, which is Poirot and the Regatta Mystery. In 1936 it appeared in both The Chicago Tribune, and across the pond, in The Strand. When Christie released it in book form, however, in 1939, she had reworked it into a Parker Pyne story! Here we have it in its original form, as a Hercule Poirot story. At the time of this printing in 1999, it had been over 60 years since the original Poirot version had been in print.

After this, we get a chronological appendix of Agatha Christie’s short story publications between 1923 and 1971, both in America and in Britain, listing the dates, issue numbers, and magazines in which they appeared. And it isn’t just Poirot, but Marple too, and Tommy and Tuppence, Parker Pyne, Harley Quin, non-series stories, and 6 children’s stories! For someone trying to collect Christie in magazine form, it’s invaluable, but for the average reader, it’s simply cool to have it included.

It just doesn’t get better than this. It’s big and thick — 50+ stories! — and encompassing of all that is Poirot in the short form. Great to own and highly recommended!

Among the small pantheon of familiar characters in world literature' genre of detective fiction one thinks of Sherlock Holmes, Sam Spade, Philip Marlow and a few others. Among that distinguished band is the inimitable Hercule Poirot. Poirot a genius of the detective art who kept his little white brain cells busy for several decades was the brilliant creation of Agatha Christie 1890-1976).
If you are an old fan of Poirot or new to the art of the well made drawing room genre in which Christie excels you will be amply rewarded by purchase of this incomparable collection. The book is a doorstop in pagination weighing in at a hefty nine hundred pages. Fifty-one stories comprise the book. Some stories are short and some are longer. Some are better and more memorable than others but all will transport you to the land where a crime can be solved with rapidity and genius by an eccentric chap named Poirot. This book would make an excellent gift for a person longing to read great detective fare. Well recommended

The best mystery writer, the best detective, and some of the mystery short stories, all gathered together in one brick of a book. It's almost too good to be true.

This book is a massive collection of Agatha Christie's talent. Each of the fifty contained short stories is a neat little brain teaser for the reader to puzzle out. Can you match wits with one of the greatest detectives of all time? Find out within!

This collection of short stories is Hercule Poirot at his very best; detecting villains and miscreants with a style and elegance. I was under a little pressure to read quickly as my version of this book was a library ebook but it was delightful and easy to read. Curl up with a tisane of your own and enter the world of Poirot. I promise you will laugh, cry and be full or your own righteous indignation at the folly of the criminals. Never will you underestimate the power of deduction.

It is tough to find a book that has the whole collection of a great work like the Hercule Poirot Short stories. Usually you only get the "best of" or "fan favorites". Fortunately, this book has all of the short stories and gives proper credit to Agatha Christie, even including her photo in the author's spot on the back cover. A beautiful book full of a quality set of stories. I gave a copy to my mother for mother's day & she absolutely loves it!

I found and read Poirot stories in this book that I had never seen before. Many of the stories are recognizable as they were made into the PBS series starring David Suchet. However, it was very interesting to see how the original stories were modified and expanded into the TV shows. Very enjoyable book for all Poirot fans!

Great collection of Poirot shorts for waiting in an office, commuting or falling asleep. I wouldn't rate the quality of the stories or characters as highly as The Sherlock series, but fun nonetheless.

I have actually already read a few of the stories which are published in this collection but I never tire of Agatha Christie. I'm about half through with my reading of this book and can't wait to get back to it for more. Many short stories which I have never read before.
