I read this very quickly and immediately downloaded the next book in the series. Entertaining from the first chapter. I'm a sucker for "blue stocking as heroine" story lines and this one didn't disappoint.

This is a cute story with humor, mystery, action and romance. I would like to read more about the other characters. The graphic sex thoughts were very annoying and totally not needed. They detracted from the story and brought the quality of the story down . It was odd how small a role Lillys' parents played in the story. Her uncle was featured in the parents role. That odd note pulled me out of the story. Take the sex out and the story is better. I love romance and find discretion more romantic than graphics. I would like to read more books by this author .

It started off promising, but the ending seemed lackluster and rushed through. I did like the academic intelligence of the heroin and the willingness of the hero to renounce a title for a country life. I might read the next novel in the series in hopes that it will be better. The supporting characters (Farthingales) are an interesting bunch and I look forward to seeing their characters develop.

A delightful and light HEA with a blue stocking and stubborn Scottish laird. Add in a mischievous twin, a house full of meddling relatives and an arrogant grandfather Duke and it is entertainment in historical England. Great characters full of action and some hilarious moments along with a touch of suspense had me smiling throughout.

AWESOME read!! Wonderful story! I was hooked thanks to Jasper. Lily and Ewan's romance was sweet and full of ups and downs. Anyone would love to be a Farthingle and have Lily in their life!! Luckily the Camerons realized it. Course Jasper already knew! Smart dog!!

I give this book an average rating. I wanted a quick read while sitting with my husband when he was in the hospital. It did not disappoint on being entertaining, but I prefer my historical romance fiction with more historical details and more in-depth plot. Think of this book as a good beach vacation read.

A fun romance that in slides a Highlands Lord. He is visiting London to fulfill his fathers dying request. The fun part is his commitment to not turn into a fancy London person. Of course there is a fascinating romance to follow.

JASPER YE BOLLIX!” and we are off to a running plunge into both the genteel and subterranean world of London’s exclusive 19th century Mayfair district! Ms. Platt’s adept manipulation of the British Regency romance genre is greatly enhanced by her keen intellectual grasp of the cultural and political zeitgeist of the British Regency, a period between 1811 -1820 of extensive cultural achievement in literature, architecture, and fashions which defined the future societal structure of British society.
Ms. Platt’s coy introduction of the seemingly naïve and innocent protagonist Lily Farthingale to Ewan Cameron, the estranged grandson of the Duke of Lotheil is well crafted. As a reader I now am eager to find out what Lily sees in this Scottish ruffian, and what this guy finds so amusing about a “bookish” lass with spectacles? For Lily is indeed a “blue stocking,” a nickname coined from London’s original “Blue Stocking Society” founded in the 1750s by a group of educated and intellectual British women. Why is this “blue stocking,” Lily Farthingale, so intrigued with her new acquaintance Ewan, a rogue Highlander with a scruffy beard & tattered clothes?
Lily obsesses often about her unsuccessful attempts to be admitted into the prestigious all male Royal Society of London for Improving Natural Knowledge, possibly the oldest society of its kind still existing today. Nonetheless, she is both a brainy and a nubile character, deeply devoted to her twin sister Dillie, and her entirely meddlesome Farthingale family. Meara Platt is especially gifted at crafting the intricate character development of two people that detect enduring characteristics in each other that everyone else overlooks or dismisses. I loved this debut novel, it’s a real page turner that left me incredibly excited about the sequel!

Echoing another reviewer, the lines were very elementary. I felt like I was reading a young adult or children's book. There was no eloquence or substance to any of the things I read in this book and I didn't even get to the part where, apparently, it gets vulgar. Glad I got this for free via Kindle, as I would've kicked myself for paying for it. If you are looking for a novel of substance, look to something like One Night for Love (Bedwyn Saga) where the story is compelling, has weight, and is meaningful.

The writing in this book is really sub par. There are way too many modern dialogues and phrases which ruined the book for me. The characters are likable but not believable in many ways. I got bored throughout the book and had to force myself to continue. Overall a ho hum read.

For those that like clean Regency, this book is not one of them.
Aside from that this book seemed to lack something. It was completely unremarkable. The characters were one dimensional except for perhaps Lily. The story was uninspired and I felt like i read it a thousand times even though details might be different; like the penny press novels they used to print years ago, and the kind that frequently are made fun of in regency romance. I wish I didn't waste my money.
Also this author should do more research before attempting a regency story as there are many inaccuracies.

My Fair Lily starts out slow an a bit boring. But my major problem with the story is the inaccurate way it is written. I know its fiction but please the author should have stayed with some semblance of historical facts. To make the reader feel like they are in the Regency era. I read Historical Romance fiction becasue I like this period of time from the past. The story is about Gavin and his sister Meggie fulfilling there fathers dying wish to leave Scotland for 3 moths and live with the Grandfather The Duke of Lotheil in London. The Duke has disowned Gavins father and who was the Dukes eldest son. Now he has to choose which grandson will he given his the Title of Duke of Lotheil. All I can say is this is all wrong. Its called "Primogeniture" Gavins father is the eldest and Gavin is the eldest Grandson. He gets the title!! This shouldn't have been an issue in the story. There is another younger cousin Desmond who in the end of the story Gavin decides to let him take the title of the Duke of Lotheil when the grandfather dies. NO NO NO its not done that way. They can't just decided who the title passes to. I know I am on a rant but this just ruined the whole story for me. What fool would what to be a mere Laird when he could be a Duke and help his Scottish people more by having a seat in Parliament. The Highlanders needed that help. So I really didn't like the ending. The excuse was Gavin wanted to return to Scotland, well you idiot you can still run the Dukedom from Scotland.LOL This was just badly done.

To the other part of the story Lily Farthingdale, is interested in become a member of the Royal Society. Lily loves science and writing papers of her research but the Royal Society won't except anything from her. Gavin's grandfather the Duke of Lotheil heads up the Royal Society. Gavin and Lily meet when Jasper his dog runs into to her knocking her over into a muddle of mud. Jasper is always knocking Lily over into to something or another through out the story. I did like Jasper. Dogs and Children make for great characters in stories. This is how the friendship to love relationship starts between Gavin and Lily. There is very little romance between the couple because they are always getting in and out of one scrap after another. By the end of the story Gavin has been stabbed once and shot twice. Lily had been kidnapped and drugged. So you see readers there was no time for romance and courting in this story. I just really didn't like My Fair Lily, so 2 stars, becasue I didn't hate it. I would hope Meara Platt will research a little about this period of time and just look up the word Primogeniture. Its not easy at all to get out of a title and I don't think you can just give your title too whom every you wish.

FINAL DECISION: This was a book that made me laugh, made me smile and made me really like the characters. Light and enjoyable, the darkness of this book is never deep but just enough to keep the story interesting.

THE STORY: Ewan Cameron is Scottish but is also the estranged grandson of the Duke of Lotheil. Ewan agreed at his father's deathbed to come to London with his sister to meet with his grandfather for three months. Ewan intends to thwart his grandfather by emphasizing his Scottish background and intends to marry a Scottish woman. Ewan ends up meeting Lily Farthingale when his dog knocks her over into a puddle. A bluestocking, Lily has her own reasons to dislike Ewan's grandfather. He is blocking her attempts to join the Royal Society. Despite this, Lily wants to help Ewan navigate being a proper English gentleman in order to bridge the gap between Ewan and the rest of his family.

OPINION: I loved the lighthearted romance here. Funny and sweet and a book that made me smile, I enjoyed the interactions between Ewan and Lily. Lily is an intelligent heroine so I loved how Ewan and his big dog knock her off her game. Lily's kindness is also demonstrated by her attempts to close the breach between Ewan and his family. She is treated poorly by Ewan's grandfather and yet does the right thing for Ewan.

Ewan is entirely entranced by Lily. I liked that he almost immediately puts Lily first even when he is rejecting the possibility of there being anything between them. Their interactions were so special that I had to smile every time they started bantering with one another.

I also enjoyed the relationship between the Farthingale's which is boisterous, nosy and an authentic family. It is rare that a book has so many likeable characters. Even those characters who first appear the villains are provided the opportunity to show their true natures. The lack of obvious bad guys makes this book enjoyable to read.

The plot of the book includes a mystery regarding whether someone is attempting to kill Ewan or to hurt those around him. I liked the story because it twisted in a manner I did not expect.

This is the first book I have read by Meara Platt. The book is well written with characters that I really liked, a situation where the characters acted in reasonable manners and a story and romance which left me smiling and satisfied.

WORTH MENTIONING: This series has an interesting dynamic. There are five sisters, three who are married. The stories of the two unmarried sisters are told first but then the married sisters stories are told later.

CONNECTED BOOKS: MY FAIR LILY is the first book in the Farthingale series.

STAR RATING: I give this book 4.5 stars.

This story is an historical romance and as such is alright. There are a few things that didn't jive for me because of what I know about historic London. But they can be easily overlooked for a decent story. This story is decent.

One of the things that I didn't enjoy was that Lily seemed, on occasion, to be overly obtuse. Her misconceptions could have easily been cleared up with a few simple questions. Ewan is also guilty of jumping to conclusions without all the facts. This does make them seem more human, but it doesn't make them less frustrating.

The world is built nicely and the addition of some famous London entities, like the Bow st runners and the Royal Society were a nice touch.

Overall this was a quick and pleasant read with some historical leeway and decent characters.

I received a copy of My Fair Lily Meara Platt for Kindle through the LibraryThing Early Reviewers Program. I was initially drawn to this book because I liked the setting of the novel and enjoy reading books in this time period. I also thought the premise of a bookish young lady and a Scottish rather brutish laird would be an interesting read, since initially the characters seem to have not much in common on paper. I have to say that I did enjoy this novel. Now, there are some moments in the novel that are not historically correct and some moments where the writer used modern slag but despite this I really did enjoy the story. I thought the characters were well developed and funny. There were times while I was reading this book that I found myself laughing out loud. The writing is also good and the transitions in the story are smooth and easy to follow. I thought it was a very good debut to an interesting series and I will probably purchase the next novels in the series. The novel kept me engaged and I was sad when it was over.

I really enjoyed this book and am happy to give it 5 stars :) Ewan and Lily are one of my favorite historical couples. Ewan's dog, Jasper, literally knocks Lily off her feet, and in the process breaks her glasses, ruins her dress, and ruins the book she's reading. Ewan replaces all these items and Lily had made a few assumptions about Ewan, in fact, she thinks that he cannot afford these items and wants to prevent him from being jailed.Ewan is in fact a grandson of a powerful Duke and has plenty of money and power in his own right.

This book has a bit of everything - humor, intrigue, passion, and romance. There's a 'whodunnit' and a few suspenseful scenes. The building relationship between Ewan and Lily starts a bit slow, but ramps up soon enough.

The Farthingale clan is a hoot in their own right, and made me laugh several times. It's the loud, boisterous family, that gets on your nerves, but you can't help but love them :) Lily is a twin and they have a close and loving relationship. In fact, the next book will be all about Dilly and I can't wait to read a copy.

I hope you enjoy this book as much as I did!

Meara Platt is a new-to-me author, I won this book in a social media contest. That being said, I will definitely be reading more of her books. This book was funny, entertaining and kept me interested from the first page to the last. Lily is a bluestocking who is compassionate and helps anyone, her only dream is to join The Royal Society. Because she is a girl she is thwarted at every turn. Ewan is in London to reconcile with his estranged family due to a deathbed promise to his father. Ewan meets Lily on the street as his big dog knocks her down into a puddle and the next few times are a repeat of the first meeting. They begin spending more time together and attacks on them begins happening. Through their many adventures a sweet, charming love story develops.

I read this debut novel in a single sitting! My Fair Lily is a novel after my own heart... as a woman in IT --a very male-dominated field, I totally appreciated Lily's desire for membership in the Royal Society. Lily is a bright scholar, perhaps a bit of a nerd by today's standards, yet has a strong will that makes for fun reading.

Also, she *coughs* attracts animals.

When Scot Ewan Cameron's huge dog tackles Lily, the results are laugh-out-loud funny.

As the story progresses, you quickly realize this is not just humor. No, no, the story has a bit of suspense and takes a dark twist but best of all? Our smart fair Lily never loses her wits!

Loved it!

The story is based upon a fundamental error regarding the inheritance of British titles. A title passes inexorably to the oldest male child and to his oldest male child in turn (if there are no male children things become more complicated). This is called primogeniture.

It is therefore nonsense to base the story on whether or not the present duke will pass the title on to his grandson (the duke's son being dead). This is not a choice the duke can make. The grandson *must* become duke on the death of his grandfather, the present duke.

Several other reviewers have made the same point.

This is the story of Lily and Ewan. She is a very bookish young lady with spirit and a very big heart. Her first encounter with Ewan involves a dog who falls in love with her at first sight. It takes the Highlander a while longer to realize the same. Ewan feels very protective of Lily and does his best to watch over her, especially after an attack on Lily. As they try to figure out who attacked her and why, Lily teaches Ewan and his estranged family that family is of the utmost importance and helps them overcome their differences. I look forward to the next story.

A witty, intelligent page-turner. Meara infuses an edge into the traditional historical romance with a clever, self-sufficient heroine and rough-around-the-edges, loveable hero who supports her unconventional ideas. I found myself thoroughly charmed.

I really enjoyed this book. It didn't seem quite true to events that would happen in the early 1800s (a lady would never be left alone with a non-family male in polite society, for example - especially one she had just met), and it *is* a romance novel so who ends up with who is really predictable. Otherwise though, it was really well written. The characters are lovable and I would be interested in reading about them again in future books.

I recieved a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

While sometimes a bit clichè the story was enjoyable, I especially enjoyed the side characters, my favorite being the dog Jasper. He's a cutie and his antics always made me laugh out loud. The love story is quite sweet and with some funny banter (as I like it) and the end very dramatic and exciting. I absolutely want to know Daffodil's story so I directly bought the sequel.

This was a fun and intelligent read! The main characters are compelling; Lily is headstrong and clever and Ewan is rough around the edges and handsome, yet they both have enough quirks to make them personable. Ewan's dark family background made for an interesting twist throughout the book while Lily's innocence made her the perfect ingenue. The time period lends to some fun sexual tension and awkward moments which only made the characters more charming. My favorite character is most likely, the dopey dog Jasper who seems to always know when to insert himself and help bring the two characters together as well as help save the day! (no spoilers!!)
I can't wait to see what happens in the next book in the series!

I love reading about Scots and though I can't relate to Lily as far as her intelligence I can relate about being a twin. Not identical twins but the closeness that is there is stronger then just being a sibling. And love it when an animal is involved. You can have things happen and be over looked because of them. They bring another element to the story.

An absolute delightful read, Meara Platt brings all the elegance and romance of the Regency to life with a hot and steamy addition. The story was very entertaining and beautifully written with incredible detail. Lilly is the most adorable heroine with class, brains and beauty who is a just a tad to involved with getting into the Royal Society to notice that the Hunky Scotsman Ewan is perfect for her. I found myself laughing out loud at the Farthingale family and wishing I was one of them. Hoping to read more books by this author soon!

I enjoyed reading this story Jasper is a riot! He's like that child no one can control and I want to scream make that dog behave he is costing them a fortune! This story does start out rather slow, and is hard to get through. So for that I am giving it a 4 star. However about 30% in to it is really picking up and you can not put it down! This book has some wonder big family drama that I can so see playing out in my big family, adventure, a kidnapping and attempted murder to go with this cute love story. Although things of this time period may not have went exactly as they were played out in this book it is a fiction and is only limited to the imagination of the author.

I won a free copy of this book and reviewed because I liked it!

One cannot help but fall in love with fearless Lily as she falls for her rugged Scotsman, Ewan, in this fast-paced historical romance. Meara Platt paints an enchanting scene of a London society from long ago that young, intelligent Lily must navigate with care. She is asked to assist newly arrived Ewan and his sister, Meggie, acclimate to the city and their feuding English relatives. Lily seems to be endangered as she becomes more involved in Ewan's complicated family affairs. Their undeniable chemistry continues to draw the two together and their relationship evolves into a romantic, witty, and suspenseful story. This novel will certainly not disappoint.

My Fair Lily is a surface romance with little depth. It wasn't all that engaging, and the characters' inner monologues proved to be quite distracting and a bit corny. There were a few humorous and enjoyable moments, but for the most part, it was fluff.

Also, as another review suggested, it does seem that this could've been the third in a series, rather than the first.

I purchased this blind and hoped that it would be a find. Lily is a priceless heroine in her open devotion to learning, loyalty to family and friends, and blunt honesty. Jasper the sheepdog is cute and completely enthralled by Lily. I am know eager to read the entire Farthingale series. This is a character driven plot, events and society are part of the scenery. It is funny but also tender and romantic.

I don't usually read historical romances, but I received a copy of this ARC in exchange for an honest review. After reading Ms. Platt's debut novel, I'm hooked!

I loved this book! The heroine is somewhat of an outcast--more interested in science and books than she is about fashion and parties. The hero is a delightful Scottish Laird who is rough around the edges. Plus, there's a rambunctious Old English sheepdog. How can you pass that up?

Ms. Platt voice is intelligent with a lighthearted wit that is absolutely charming. I found myself annoyed with life's intrusions, wanting to keep reading to find out what shenanigans Lily and Ewan found themselves in next. I don't want to give away any spoilers, so I'll just leave it at that. I hope Lily's twin sister gets her own story in this series.

I highly recommend this book!

A spirited romp through regency England, Lily and Ewan are a wonderful couple who quip and kiss their way to a very satisfying happily ever after. This is a historical romance. I have read a few other reviews from readers who were tied up in whether the story was historically accurate or not. I really don't care if it is historically accurate as long as it is enjoyable to read. I read many types of books ... usually to suspend belief and escape reality so to me this was a good read. I would prefer to give this book 3.5 stars. There were a few chapters where I thought the story was going to take a turn toward and become boring. Overall, Ewan and Lily held my interest. I found them both to be smart, strong and likable.

A fun and fresh historical romance. "My Fair Lilly" has everything a good historical romance book needs. I loved the main characters. Ewan the hero is a stubborn and strong Scotsman, and Lilly is a stubborn and strong English Lass, making for a perfectly paired couple. Strong plot with plenty of intrigue and tension. My Fair Lily is one of those books that sucks you right in from page one. You can't help loving the characters (including Jasper, the dog!),being intrigued by the situation and feeling fully satisfied with the resolution. The humor is delightful and the writing flawless. The large cast of characters were interesting and likable from top to bottom. But the writing lacked immediacy and interest. Too many times the author restated a previous point. For example, I don't know how many times the reader was reminded that the leading lady was "sassenach" and thus unsuitable. Once or twice would have been enough. Throughout there were unnecessary paragraphs and sentences that could have been deleted. This gets especially tedious when you read the book in a day. However, it did keep my attention and I didn't get so upset that I quit it!

Author should do some research. Thank goodness for being able to download a sample of a book. I read the first three chapters of this one and in that time noted a number of issues. First, the author uses terms that were not used at the time, such as 'French braid'. That term was not used until later in the 19th century, with another crude term, used by the hero, that was not used until the 20th century! And then we're asked to believe that the mother of 18 year old twins can't tell the difference between them? And oh! In chapter two we already have the 'hero' reflecting on Lily's breasts. Finally, I again should know better to hope that a supposedly regency book will adhere to the standards set by Jane Austen or Georgette Heyer, when the cover depicts the heroine in a truly modern dress. When will these authors and cover 'artists' learn! So, the sample saved me $3.99; money I would never spend on a so called regency.

Some parts obvious (OK, most) but an entertaining, quick read, if you like the genre. Especially when the hero touches the heroin's "bosom" and she declares...

“Hot, sugared crumpets,” she whispered. “What are you doing to me?”

Lily is a bluestocking and proud of it. Her family loves and accepts her and her intelligence and agree she is probably the smartest person in their large and eccentric family. Men usually run from her because she is beautiful but so smart she scares them. When a handsome Scotsman and his destructive but lovable dog come into contact with Lily there will be mayhem and romance. But someone is determined to cause trouble but who is in danger and being targeted? Really fun and interesting tale.

This book grabbed me from the first chapter. I loved Lily's personality and quirky mannerisms and that large, hairy, loveable sheepdog that loved Lily from the start. The Farthindales are the perfect big loving family. Reading about them made me wish to be one. The main character, Lily was a genius who only knew books and study until she was attacked by a dog and rescued by it’s owner. The story after that is impossible to put down.

I really liked this story and the way it progressed! Lily and Ewan met via his dog's actions and the aftermath/mix-up was hilarious! Jasper the dog was a comic relief throughout the book with his reactions to Lily and I loved those! The way Ewan was able to act with Lily's family made me love him as well. Lily was so open and loving to everyone around her even when they didn't deserve it. I'm going to soon be buying the next book as well to see who gets their story next!

The Farthingale's are a loving family but not all of them are strictly up to speed on what they should or should not be doing! Lily, who is an authentic bluestocking loves reading, learning, attending all or mostly male lectures about science. She has been helping a friend write a paper---definitely not your typical English lady of that century--much to her Mothers despair! Lily has a twin who helps her escape from those boring social parties she is supposed to attend--they are identical twins. Almost no one can tell them apart--her uncle can--and then

A big hairy English sheepdog takes an instant liking to her when he spots her on the street. Down she goes--the dogs owner is mortified.
Lily has no idea this Scot is the grandson of one of the most prominent men around--she thinks he is a pauper or something like that. That loving dog ruins more of Lily's dresses along the way (as well as expensive household items)--Ewan-the Big Brawny Scotsman-keeps making reparations.

As loving a family as the Farthingales are--is how hateful Ewans's family is. Lily is bound and determined to fix this----

So amid shootings, stabbings and a kidnapping--will Ewen discover what his dog already knows? Lily is the only woman for him--will the dastardly grandfather relent and give up his miserable ways? Read this book to find out. You will be very glad you did!

While I was going to purchase it, I just realized I already had it. I was glad I forgot it, not because the book was bad but because while it was the first one published in this series, it is the 4th one in the reading order.
I saw the twins grew up in the three previous books, and now the last two books left to read are their stories.
I had some fear about Lily as she was shown in some of the stories as a little jaded, while here she is mostly stating facts.
But she was less cold even if still the perfect bluestocking, she was more humain with her flaws and her different way of approaching life. I loved her and how she was dealing with her “obligations” and her relationship with her twin. I loved her interaction with Jasper, the furry beast who can’t stand to see her clean and upright.
Ewan was so stubborn, he was near to pass up the woman created for him, because she was a damn sassenach! But I liked him, even if he is the sort to speak with his fits first and think of the consequences after, once Lily shows him the good way, he will try to right the wrong done even if it was not his doing.
I adored to see again all the Farthingale sisters and their husbands, plus the storyline adds murder attempts and kidnapping to the usual plot.
I just have a remark, I have read the free novella about George, the Farthingale Doctor, and he was a lucky one, he was rejuvenated between this book and his story, over forty here and thirty nine in If You Kiss Me, which is set a year later (not two like wrote in the book). The author should keep track of her characters and their age, as George is not the only one whose age fluctuate over the different books.
But in all, it is a very entertaining series, I can’t speak about modern expressions or out of time words, but nothing put me out of the story.

I loved this book & if you aren't such a stickler to "exact events of the times", you will love this too. I am not reading to crucify authors but am reading for the enjoyment of the book & this one fit the bill for me. I love Ewan & Lily & I especially loved the looby dog, Jasper! The other family members & supporting characters in the book were also very engaging & the comical happenings in the story were "laugh out loud" funny. I highly recommend this read to any historical romance lover (and dog love) for a fun read & I can't wait to read Dillie & Ian's story!

Great Story! I could not put it down. This is what one expects when reading a romance book; to be assaulted with so many feelings. Meara Platt is an amazing writer and surely one to keep following.

Good plot, interesting charectors, and a love sick dog makes this one a keeper. My only complaint was that the story was a little drawn out and then rushed at the end, but I enjoyed it, good way to spend your time.

Nice story, easy to read. The H and h and nice chemistry. Just wish the author spent a little more time developing them. The story also got a little slow at times but not slow enough where I didn't want to pick the book back up the next day.

In my opinion, this book was good not great. It fulfilled its purpose of giving me a weekend escape filled with romance. I wish like most of the other reviewer's, that this was a longer novel because it had so much potential.
