This well-researched and organized book is a must for all young girls to read. Women's rights are still an issue. Hillary Clinton is an important figure in this fight.

I enjoyed Hillary's background information. I had no idea that she was such an active community organizer when she was young. Girls and women need all the role models they can get, especially in American politics. This book definitely fills that need.

The illustrations are also very thoughtful. I like the back matter explaining the illustrators choices. I highly recommend this book!

This book is inspiring and honestly a great reminder of how much Clinton has accomplished in her lifetime. I especially liked the way her early life was described as the foundation for the work she does now.

I received this as a gag gift. As a gag gift it is hilarious. However it reminds me of Nazi/North Korea child propaganda. Hillary Clinton turned into a super hero. Hard to stomach, but I read the whole book. It sits on our shelf as a conversation piece now.

Michelle Markel brings a woman of our times to the pages of history for young girls. Every girl should know who has fought for her rights, and who has paved the way for women to lead on a global scale. Most moving in this book are the quotes from HRC herself. "Women's rights are human rights, once and for all."

I loved this book. I grew up as a girl not listening to stereotypes, even with societal pressure. This book serves as a role model for girls to feel they can grow up to be who they want to be and to not let anyone tell you you can't. It is also a great book for boys so they can see the girls as strong and as their equals so they can learn how to treat girls/women. Ms. Markel is able to move me so much in her writing that I get so emotional as I read her books myself and aloud to children! I also loved the illustrations!

It's always tricky to review a book about a political figure. In order to do justice to such a book, we must actually forget politic and judge the book on its own merit whether we like the politician or not.
This book is extremely successful in the way the text and the art co exist. On the title page, we see Hillary riding on a bike. We already get it. She's going to go places! The illustrator did a fantastic job depicting Hillary in various stages in her life, complete with her changing hair styles and outfits, form 50s style, as a girl to bell bottom pants in the 6os, to today's Hillary trendy pants suit. Many of Hillary's quotes are inserted in the illustrations which creates a theatrical drama. The book starts with Hillary, a little girl in the 50s standing by many famous male personalities and ends with today's Hillary, standing among famous female personalities- a clever way of showing Hillary's achievement in contributing to the struggle for women's rights.
The research in the story is accurate but the story never gets too "heavy " because of the humor in the illustrations.
For example, we see Hillary at the hair salon. A male hair stylist is teasing her hair, presumably to make it look more like what a first lady's hairdo should look like, while she is reading an article in the paper entitled, The Hillary Problem.
The book also contains a time line which should be very appealing to teachers.

Hillary Rodham Clinton: Some Girls Are Born to Lead by Michelle Markel is about a girl who wanted to make a difference and follows Hillary from the time she was a girl in the 1950s--when the world was dominated by men--to the present day. The short but evocative text is perfect for young children (who weren't even born the last time Hillary ran for President) but is full of information, and there is much more--in the detailed illustrations by LeUyen Pham (with key figures identified in an artist's note in the back), a timeline that places HIllary's life in the context of other world events, and a selected bibliography suitable for young readers. Throughout, Hillary is shown to be a leader in the fight for women's rights and human rights. This is a book that should be read by both girls and boys.

Are there enough books for young readers about girls growing up to be contenders, equals and game changers in our world? No. Well here is one. Read it to girls and boys and set the thinking straight now. Girls grow up to be women and women can change the world. Well done Michelle Markel.

This is a terrific book, bound for awards--a marriage of fine writing, wonderful informative illustrations and book design. (I'm a Bernie gall myself, but I figure in the end I'll be voting for Hilary. This book helps me know her better, admire her more. Illustrations include spreads of famous personages--it's so fun to try to figure out who they are. Reading this book will make you love Hilary Clinton.

Girls who yearn to aim high and follow their dreams will be inspired by this spunky book which beautifully presents the many chapters of Hillary Clinton's life. A must read for girls who want to achieve!

Politics aside (if possible), this is a lively biography of a leading figure in American life, a story that empowers girls to dare act on their dreams and convictions. As a contemporary of Hillary's, I can attest to the restrictive social climate she experienced as a young girl, one that made her achievements all the more remarkable. Though the ceiling for girls has risen, it still exists; the story told here remains important. It not only traces Hillary's rise, however, but also shows that she has paid a price more than once for daring to stand out. All of which makes the book sound sober and serious, which it's absolutely not. The text and illustrations are engaging, full of life and fun and detail that will keep kids reading. If they want to learn more after finishing the story, the timeline, notes on the illustrations, and bibliography at the end will give them plenty to explore. I think this book will widen horizons, and look forward to sharing it with my youngest friends.

What drivel! I thought only the Soviet Union produced these warped, delusional hagiographies. Luckily I picked this book to leaf through it in a book store. I shudder to think about putting any money in this author's pocket. What's next for Markel? Bernie Madoff: A Financier to Look up To?

as long as they don't get the idea that it's okay to be so rapacious for power and privilege that no laws matter.
If they don't get the idea that lies and corruption are normal, then it should be okay.

As a very progressive woman and mother, I like books that can inspire my daughter. Unfortunately, this book is trash. HRC is not a woman for her too look up to. In fact, a lot of the legwork had already been done for her, and even now, we are seeing that her way to get ahead is to cheat and violate laws. I don't want my daughter to aim to be like her. Just because HRC has a vagina doesn't mean she's a default role model.

Disgusting view and completely sexist. Girls should be able to do anything boys do but when it starts creating an entitlement like being told you should get something because of your gender, then we have an issue. Everyone should have equal opportunities no matter their gender but to say you deserve something because of it; this will create extremism which will set women back many years. You deserve something if you work hard for it, have worked fairly for it, and have not lied and cheated your way to get it. Especially if you use money to get it. Horrible role model for my children.

This book was just wrong. I want my kids to grow up knowing they can be or do anything, but I want them to be successful at it. This book simply tells us that with the right alignment and an inept ability to bend the truth, that you can be the first female nominee of a major party to fall flat on your face. Look for something yuge, great, and grand of you want to read to your kids.

I can't wait for the authors next books. "Charlie Manson was a charismatic leader who inspired loyalty and devotion among his young followers..." "Young Adolph was a visionary author who many looked to for his inspired leadership..."

I purchased this as a gag gift for a left-leaning friend, and it is perfect for that purpose. The message of the author, if taken seriously, is nauseating. Unfortunately, the author sees this as a compliment to the Hillary cause. Any child above the age of five will recognize it for the drivel that it is; I don't think it is too dangerous for a young mind.

propaganda for lil tykes...
pehaps in vol II a chapter can be devoted to Hillary's strident stance on abortion.every left leaning female owes it to herself to have at least one abortion in her life to show how much she supports womyn like Hillary...

This is an incredible book--well-researched by both author and illustrator. If you can put aside your politics, read this as the story of a bright intelligent woman who has worked hard and gone where few have. Of course there were other amazing women before her and thank heavens will be others after her, but this book is about one person and the writing is focused and poetic. A must for all young girls . . .

I initially bought this as a gag joke for a rightwing friend. However, upon reading, I find it difficult to believe that ANYONE, even her friends, could allow a child to read this book. It is beyond Pravda-like propaganda. I have respect for my kids and hope for them becoming independent thinkers to put this anywhere that they'd find it. Complete garbage.

This a great way to basically lie to young girls about one of the biggest liars I've ever seen in my life. What a shameful book this is. Absolutely filled with lies about a women that has deceived Americans, and has covered up her husbands sexual affairs. And let's not forget the Clinton Foundation. Corruption, lies and scandals.

I was disappointed in this book. I've been a long time supporter of HRC and was excited to purchase this book for my daughter. HRC is a strong female figure and I don't think that this book did her life and accomplishments justice. It almost felt rushed and defensive instead of celebratory of all that she has accomplished.

This is a great book to give to little girls. I bought 3 copies for my 3 granddaughters, thinking that I would give them each one when Hillary won the presidency. Alas, it was not to be. But the books are still great. I will write a message for each girl in the book, and give them anyway.

A nice biography about Clinton for kids. A lot of it is advanced for my preschooler so we end up ad libbing a lot but it's also sparked a lot of interesting conversations with her, too! I learned a lot about Clinton's early years I didn't know.

Beautiful children's book. Inspiring book about doing what's right, learning to read. Note that the 1 star reviews didn't even read the book - they should not be allowed to post! Inspiring. My 8 year old son enjoyed it, even though he usually prefers chapter books.

Our two young daughters followed the election closely, listened to her speak on TV and were curious about HRC. This book answered their questions about her life from a young age, going to college and working on causes she believed in. She is definitely one tough lady who has endured a lot, whatever your political persuasion. Great message about resilience and very inspirational.

Great book for girls and boys about determination and striving to make a difference in the world. Wonderfully illustrated and informative. Ignore the Hillary hater reviews. The book has a great message for kids and highlights many of Secretary Clinton's greatest accomplishments.

This book completely leaves out a good part of my back story. From my birth in a secret KGB laboratory, to my induction into my local satanist church. All in all poor quality, my good friendsir ovwr at Goldman Sachs think so as well.

Just curious. Is there any other American president candidate published any book stating that they are born leader before they got elected? Born leader, I think only Chairman Mao and leaders of North Korean deserve this kind of comments. Will 1984 be the near future of the US?
